Timing multiple shots to a voice over sequence

Hello All,
I have a voice over sequence that runs 00:00:12:11. I have 7 still shots that I would like to cycle through that time. Is there a quick way to spread those stills evenly? In other words, in an ideal world, I could highlight the stills, select duration, and enter the time. Unfortunately, when I attempt this, it gives each clip(still) 12:11.
Thanks.
DG

12;11 (if using ntsc 29.97) is 12*30+11 or 371 frames. You have 7 stills. Divide 371 by 7 and you get 53 frames per still.
Set the image duration for each of the 7 items to 1;23 and you should be close.
If you are using any other frame rate, the process is the same, just substitute it for '30' in the equation.
Don't they teach math in schools anymore?
good luck,
x

  • Voice over not in sequence?

I recorded a voice over to a sequence yesterday in Premiere Pro CC and opened it today, and the voice over was there. Now I'm trying to open the sequence with the voice overs after closing the application, and the sequence opens, but the voice over tracks are not in the timeline. Only the A1 track has audio in it, but I recorded in A2 and A3 as well.
All the audio files are saved in the project files, so I know they are on my computer. Just for some reason I can't find the sequence with the voice over tracks in it. I have over 500 voice overs, and would really really like to not have to line them up since they were already lined up. Help?

See if you can open an auto save or a (save a) copy from another location on your hard drive.

  • Using "voice over" to add music soundtrack

    Hi,
I was wondering if this would work:
Attach "midi out" from keyboard to line in (headphone-type jack) on late-2009 imac and then use the "voice over" function in FCE. While watching my sequence I would play my soundtrack music on the keyboard.
I thought this would be a good way to get the timing right and perhaps avoid a lot of little steps.
I would just try it, of course, except I don't have an XLR to "headphone type jack" adaptor and would rather not buy one only to find out the it won't work or that it will sound really poor.
    Thanks,
    Tom

Midi-out will not work for this. Don't even try it - the signal (digital) is the wrong type to connect to an analog audio-in. And if I remember correctly, MIDI is 5v or higher, which could blow the audio-in.
But if your keyboard has an *audio out* - that would work with the audio-in on your Mac (line level or headphone out - most keyboards I've seen have one or both of them).

  • Recording a Voice Over w Kona3 xlr in FCP 6

    hello all
i've got a fcp 6 setup with a kona 3 card and want to record Voice Overs straight into the timeline but am having some difficulties getting any results.
The system is brand new and the card is installed properly but i'm not sure what i need to do to set the XLR 1-2 to be audible in FCP.
Currently my mic is cabled to XLR 1-2 and with the kona 3 control panel the Audio Input Select is AES/EBU (XLR) map channels 1-2 to 1-2. The other option is Embedded 1-16. I'm pretty sure this is correct and mapping the XLR inputs appropriately.
Within FCP my capture preset is AJA Kona3: 720p 59.94 DVCPro HD. Though i'm not sure if the capture preset effects the voice over tool.
    Within the VO tool:
    source: AJA Kona
Input: Aja kona (doesn't allow a specific channel)
in/outs are set on sequence. "ready to record' is displayed but i have no levels.
any insight is appreciated as i am a little green with the kona card.
    Thanks
    /j

I'm not sure the AES/EBU xlr inputs will work with a mic plugged directly. This is actually intended to be a digital format - see the wiki here:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AES/EBU
A mic plugged directly into this jack will not provide the compatible signal. I use a Kone with a breakout box that includes analog XLR inputs, but these are differentl. You may have some additional options. You need to convert the audio to digital to use the AES or "embedded" digital audio. If you have a deck connected you may bbe able to use the analog inputs on the deck as a bridge to get to the Kona.
If you are planning to use the VO tool, you may be recording scratch VO until the script is finalized... in this case, or even if this is intended to be the final audio, you can also hook up an adapter to use the Mac's built-in audio input as a source, in whic case the A/D conversion happens on the Mac's audio card.
Additionally, you can use a DV or other firewire-compatible camera as a bridge to get digital audio in via firewire.
    Hope this helps -

  • Recording Voice-Over via Final Cut Pro and Recording Via Pro Tools?

    Hey all,
I'm recording some voice-over for a documentary shot on DV.
Here's my question: all other factors being the same, is there any disadvantage in terms of audio quality of recording into Final Cut (through an m-box2) using the voice-over tool, or recording into M-Powered Pro Tools using the mbox 2 (and then bringing the file to Final Cut)?
Pro Tools obviously allows for a far more sophisticated treatment of the sound after it has been imputed - but in terms of using it for capture?
I know that Pro tools allows 24bit recording, but I'd probably record at 16bit anyway so as to match the sample rate of the rest of my audio in the project.
I'd be using the same mic-xlr-mbox2 set-up and the same computer, does anyone have any views on the difference in the quality of the recorded audio?
    Thanks

actually an in point by itself won't help you
a valid recording range needs both In and Out point, or simply a clip in the timeline which by its presence denotes the recording range
the recording range must be less than 5 minutes
in a blank timeline some like to throw a slug in there to mark the recording range, i find it easiest to just enter a duration in the canvas (i type 4.. in the duration field at top left of the canvas and it automatically marks a 4 minute range)

  • I am trying to do voice over of my clips

Hello. I am trying to do voice over for my clips, but when I use the voice over tool, the audio is really low - unusable. I just need a way to use a mic through a Mackie to capture my voice over.

That isn't how you do VO. You need to open the VO TOOL.
What I do is make a new sequence, lay down about 10-20 min of slug and then use the VO tool to record VO. FCPs VO tool wants to lay down audio onto a timeline, instead of recording it as audio only via the capture tool (Like we do with Avid). After I record the VO, I drag the audio clip from the timeline to my bin where it shows up as a clip.

This is easily done with dial peer statements . The dial peer in your originating router must route the calls to the terminating router first. That would look like :
dial-peer voice xxxxx voip ( the xxxxx is just a tag)
destination-pattern 45... (that would route any 5-digit calls beginning with 45)
session-target ipv4:xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (ip address of the terminating router)
If digitones are to be dialed after the connection is established, use the statement:
    dtmf-relay-h.245-alphanumeric
You could also use a statement to specify the codec to be used:
    codec g711ulaw
You would need multiple voip dial peers if the calls were going to different routers based on the dialed digits. If all calls are sent to the same terminating router, use all wild cards in the dest-pattern statement.
At the terminating router configure pots dial peers:
    dial-peer voice xxxxx pots
    dest-pattern 45...
port x/x (whichever port the call is to be terminated on)
prefix 45 (this re-inserts matched digits which are stripped off by the pots dp)
Repeat for other ports which will receive calls.

  • Captivate 7 and adding Closed Captioning to my training *No Video just Voice Overs*

    Afternoon Adobe Community,
I want to pose a question to all you experts out there on an easy way to display text from the slide notes as a form of closed captioning for my Voice Overs... I am aware that with video it has the functionality to add closed captioning but was hoping for a viable option to do this for pre-recorded audio that I have the transcript in the slide notes.
This may not be possible but figured I would give it a shot.
    Thanks!

    Hi there,
To convert Slide notes as closed captions, Please check the 'Audio CC' checkbox present in the slide notes panel (Audio should be present in the slide )
This will convert all the marked Slide notes as closed captions automatically. You can synch the converted closed captions with audio from the Edit>Audio>Closed captions dialog.
    Thanks,
    Nimmy Sukumaran.

  • Mono voice over has 1 track only is this the proper way to do it?

My dialogue has 2 tracks (A1/A2), has well has my music (A3/A/4). My voice over, that was recorded in Mono is on just one track (A5), is this fine or should I have 2 tracks also for this voice over?
    Thank you.

That's not really a great way to handle mono audio, in my opinion. When you double audio tracks, you're literally doubling the audio; all your levels will be jacked up, because you're superimposing sound. What Shane said is what I understand to be the correct way — as far as there's ever a correct way to do anything — to handle mono audio. You pan your left and right stereo tracks to the left and the right, but you keep your mono tracks panned center (or automate the pan for things like foley effects on moving shots, stuff like that).
Among other things, this makes doing your final mix a lot easier, since you've got only the number of tracks you actually need. Every track you add creates more work when you finish your sound.

  • How to add record voice over for a video file

I have a video file (wmv) already prepared, and all I would like to now do is record a voice over for this file using Soundbooth CS4.  My hunch is that I need to import the video into a multi-track file, and then I expect I'll export the multitrack file back to the WMV when I'm done.  The problem is that when I hit the record button, I'm expecting to see the video playing but I don't.
Is there a way to add a voice-over / narration to an exisiting video file (in this case a video file without an audio track at all)

When you are recording, you are creating a new audio track and not playing the video, so you won't see it advance.
Best bet is to open the video in WMP, and record your audio in SB while it plays, to get the timing right, then open the video in SB and past the recording into it.
I'm not sure, but I believe the reason you can't play the vid and record at the same time is in case someone is recording new audio for a clip that has audio in it already, the old audio would play at the same time the recording is taking place and would screw it all up, so it either records one or plays the other, but not both at once.

  • Voice Over causes the computer to crash

If my computer has sat idol for a short period of time and I try to use voice over prior to something else, I will get the message "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button for several seconds or press the restart button. I do not see this message other then with voice over.
Voice over has always been very sensitive. I need to arrange my desk top as standard and then have the canvas at 100%. This works.
Voice over is set at source and input M-audio mobil pre, rate 4800 hz, gain 150, volume -14 and sound clues checked.
Is this something I am doing or is there a fix out there for this? I do have a work around but was wondering if there is a better way.
    Thank You

You can wait unless the problem you have is stopping you from completing the job. In that case...
You can do this anytime. Connect the new drive and change the scratch drive preferences in SYSTEM SETTINGS. Do not create folders, simply select the root of the drive you wish to use. Once you have done so for both the Capture Scratch and Render files, FCP will create project specific folders on the new drive. Save the project and close FCP. You will then have to copy the elements from the old scratch drive to the appropriate folders on the new drive. Launch FCP, open your project and then reconnect the media in your project, directing it to the new drive. FCP will likely not connect to the render files once they have been moved so you may have to re-render your sequence.
Before you do any of that, you might try trashing FCP Preferences first to see if that fixes the problem and allows you to finish the job.

  • Final Cut Express Voice Over

The voice over function on FCE 4.01 seems to work sometimes and not others (in the same sequence). when it doesn't work the window comes up and the count down occurs but nothing is recorded.
I haven't worked with FCE in a while and am getting back up to speed with the new version. My mic is fine- I have fiddled with all the obvious settings and can't figure out what is going on- any guidance would be appreciated- it is driving me crazy.

The Patch Panel is Final Cut talk for destination controls in the Timeline. This is the ability for FCE to direct a certain edit to arrive in a certain place in the Timeline that the user controls as opposed to the "what happened then" scenario.
The Patch Panel is to the right of the Timeline. Each Track has a name. Audio is called A1, A2 etc. Video is called V1, V2 etc.
On a default or new Timeline you kick off with 2 video and 4 audio tracks.
Note that A1 and A2 have additional tabs connected to them called a1 and a2, click on them and watch them break apart, click again to re-join.
If any tab on the Patch Panel is broken apart you cannot edit to that track. This allows the user to control if _audio only_ or _video only_ is sent to the timeline, and importantly, where it arrives. You can also drag a1 or a2 to any vacant audio track to insert a Voice Over. If nothing is selected or there are no spare tracks existing, the VO will automatically create a (New) track.
I'd suggest placing a unique name for each VO in the Name: field so you can locate a specific one later on.
As mentioned, look in the Target Field of the VO Tool to know where it's going before you start the VO.
If you can't do a VO eg. playhead is at the end of the Timeline, *No Recording Range Set* appears. Overide this by entering in/out points wherever you like.
Hope this blurb steers you in the right direction.

when I use voice over to read an epub in my Ibooks app, which is in Dutch, sometimes he start reading a book with an English Female voice and some books he reads with the Dutch male voice (which is good). All my epubs are Dutch books so the English voice sound terrible trying to pronounce Dutch. Can i fix this problem? Thanks, Tom

It sounds like you may have multiple problems, but none of them are likely to be caused by malware.
First, the internet-related issues may be related to adware or a network compromise. I tend to lean more towards the latter, based on your description of the problem. See:
    http://www.adwaremedic.com/kb/baddns.php
    http://www.adwaremedic.com/kb/hackedrouter.php
If investigation shows that this is not a network-specific issue, then it's probably adware. See my Adware Removal Guide for help finding and removing it. Note that you mention AdBlock as if it should have prevented this, but it's important to understand that ad blockers do not protect you against adware in any way. Neither would any kind of anti-virus software, which often doesn't detect adware.
As for the other issues, it sounds like you've got some serious corruption. I would be inclined to say it sounds like a failing drive, except it sounds like you just got it replaced. How did you get all your files back after the new drive was installed?

  • No Levels in Voice Over Meter with Presonus Firebox Preamp

I've searched a bit through this forum and it seems this has been a problem in the past for several people. Has anyone figured out why the Presonus Firebox Preamp (using a condenser mic with phantom power)will register sound in Garage Band...Soundtrack Pro...etc, but not in Final Cut Pro 5.
Final Cut Pro's VO utility identifies the Presonus Firebox, but no sound comes through at all...even if you try to record...say a few lines...and then play it back...still absolutely silent.
    Help!!!
    Mr. Pants

Check that the sample rate is set the same everywhere:
    Presonus dialog
    Audio MiIDI setup
    Sequence settings
    Audio/Video settings- A/V Devices - Playback Output - Options
and finally, Toolbench Voice Over dialog.
