TIP: New very promissing extension from South America

A recent development in Chile is very promissing, its a total new concept for an extension, can in principle be used in conjunction with Visual Studio 2012 (or later) and Team Foundation Server, adaptations in the future are most likely that it pluggs right
into the cerebellum and the neocortex:
http://www.shapingtomorrow.com/home/alert/94246-Brain-extensions
Specially meant for mankind so they can keep up, following and using their own developments.
I think its not like losing or selling your soul.
Imagine the top developers at Microsoft all get one of those extensions, because they will want to keep up with the competition, wouldn't that be funny? Moreover when it is wireless connected all they hear, see or seem is uploaded, stored and analyzed for
the next generations. I think it could even detect by brain activity if people are lying and there by sending a signal to people who do the scrutiny

This is an excellent thing to post on your own blog, if you don't have one check out wordpress.com or a similar solution. This is not suitable for posting in a forum, it's a personal opinion, not an actual question about a technical problem.

  • Need a Recovery CD for HP Pavilion dv6t-7000, want to purchase the cd from south america

    Hi there:
I accidentally deleted all partitions from my HP Pavilion dv6t-7000 hard disk, I need the recovery disk, where can I purchase and download it?

If you know someone in the USA... order the discs or have them order the discs and send to their address. Once they receive the discs, have them mail the disc set to you in Venezuela.
Alternatively, if you can still read the 25-digit Windows product key on the Microsoft COA affixed to the bottom the computer, you can install Windows 7 using this key. Please see "How to Install Windows 7 Without the Disc" for instructions on how to download Windows 7, create the installation media, and install Windows 7 using the 25-digit product key from the Microsoft COA on your computer. Using this method will not install any HP customizations or value-added software and you will have to manually install all needed drivers.
If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

  • ISight doesn't work when chatting from south america?

I have a MacBook and was able to successfully iChat with my home G5 (10.4.7) desktop no problem. Now I'm working in Uruguay and everytime I try to iChat with my home computer it tells me that the communication is not possible. Does this have to do with the DSL service I have in Uruguay? I'm quite upset cause I actually got the iBook in order to iChat with my family when I'm overseas...
FYI: ALL FIREWALLS from both computers are off...

It could be the DSL service, or it could be the DSL modem or your router.
I would try video connections from an Internet cafe or from another Internet connection.

  • OCM exam on South America

    Hi all,
I've been looking for OCM exams in my country or at least in other country of South America for a while and it's neve been offered. Almost one Year ago, I called to Oracle Education of my country and they told me that the OCM exam is only taken at USA for "Americas". What I don't understand is that in Europe or in Asia there are too many countries that offer the exam but here in Latin America, only at USA or Canada.
The funny thing is that I know 7 others DBAs that want to take this exam, but the cost of hotel, plane tickets, etc is increasing a lot the costs and they, like me, are waiting for this exam in our country or at least in a cheaper country near here. I do believe that is the same situation of too many others DBAs in Brazil, Argentina, Chile and other countries of South America.
I know that is necessary a proctor to offer this exam and probably there are other factors that difficults the offer of this exam. But for the other side, The OCM exam has been offered for a while and I guess that Oracle Education had the necessary time to fill those gaps
Is it possible to request the exam in a country of Latin America?
If Yes, How do I do this? If not, I'd like to say here that is not fair with Oracle DBAs from South America.
    Thanks All,
    Cerreia

I don't think it's the main reason. It's because almost all DBAs that I know from the Market have the OCP certification. In fact, almost all positions here is Brazil, for SR Oracle DBA are requesting experience and the OCP certification as well. ( I disagree with this, but is what I'm seeing )Sure, I probably didn't express myself properly. I concur that having the OCP, as a senior DBA, should be a prerequisite from the company's point of view and likely a no-brainer from an experienced DBA's perspective. On the other hand I believe that a recruiter would be hard-pressed finding one of those available in the wild.
    But I digress.
The point is that standing out from the crowd becomes a much tougher feat to accomplish when the OCP is a standard and the next step is out of reach.
With that said I wonder what it will take for Oracle to make that move.
Have you tried to contact them at [email protected]? Could be one way of approaching the issue and getting some feedback.
It's not that Chicago isn't a nice place to visit and all, it's just that there won't be much time and cash left to appreciate it. ;)

Yes, I did try to go on my settings>wifi and was waiting for any wifi signals to pick up, but nothing shows up. But on my PC I get a whole list of networks to choose from. Regarding my neighbor, I already have her password that is why I was able to get it on my PC, the problem is that the mini Ipad is not picking any signal neither can it locate me when I go to maps.

  • New OIF installation - Very slow response from OHS

    Hi,
I've installed two instances of OIF 10.1.4.0.1 in order to create a test configuration to test XASP Attribute Sharing (i.e., we are not doing any other profiles).
Both OIF instances are using a separate instance of Sun Directory Server as its User Data Store, and both are using in-memory for Transient Data Store and have no Federation Data Store. Both OIF instances were installed similarly, using the "BASIC" installation choices, and are running on separate Redhat Linux servers.
The problem that we're seeing is very slow (10+ seconds to 30+ seconds) responses, even when we try to access a static HTML test page that we've placed in the OHS htdocs directory.
We've eliminated any networking problems as possibilities by a couple of tests that we've done, including shutting down the OHS and running a small, different test web server listening on port 7777. When we do that, response time for requests from that web server is almost instantaneous.
We are also seeing the same slow response when we try to access the test HTML page from the same server itself.
We have an SR open with Oracle, but so far, we've not been able to identify what the problem might be, so I'm hoping that perhaps someone else may have encountered this problem and have a resolution.
It is really puzzling because, as I said, this is a pretty vanilla default OIF installation, and it is doubly puzzling because even getting a tiny static HTML page is taking 10+ seconds. Also, I had installed OIF 10.1.4.0.1 on a Windows machine previously, and I don't see this problem on that earlier installation.
If anyone here has any insight into this problem, please let me know.
    Thanks,
    Jim

    Hi,
I think I was able to temporarily eliminate this slow response problem. I think that the slow response problem is related to another problem that I posted about in the "Application Server - General" forum (see below, and Port 7200 conflict?
    Jim
======= POSTED to Application Server - General forum ============
I think that I was able to temporarily work around this problem, plus another problem that I think is related (see: New OIF installation - Very slow response from OHS
What I did was to just comment out the "include" line for "dms.conf" in the Apache httpd.conf.
Doing that got rid of the "Address already in use" errors I was seeing in Apache error_log and also eliminated the slow response I was seeing from Apache/OHS (see that other post in "Identity Management" forum), BUT I am getting new errors about Apache not being able to find "htdocs/dms/Spy0".
I have the impression that dms is some kind of process monitoring system that Oracle has in 10gAS infrastructure? So, I have some questions:
    1) What's the effect of dms not working?
    2) Is it possible to just disable dms?
I hope that Oracle support can come up with a "real" fix for both problems, but in the meantime, as long as what I did doesn't break anything else besides dms, we can at least test the OIF stuff.

  • How can I buy a product on ITunes from another country. I live in the Netherlands and want to buy a movie produced for Chile, South America

I live in the Netherlands and want to buy a movie on ITunes meant for Chile, South America.
    Is this possible?

No, you can only buy from your country's store - to be able to buy from the Chilean store you need to be in Chile with a Chilean billing address on your account. You can try requesting that the film be added to the Netherlands store, but without the film studio's agreement Apple won't be able to sell it there : http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunes.html

  • Need to send Aperture library to client in South America

I need to get a whole Aperture library containing images and an Aperture book folders to a client in South America.
Today I have already successful transferred the library from an external hard disk that used Tiger, to my new computer's admin account that that uses Leopoard, then transferred it over successfully to a separate user account in the client's name.
I had originally planned to use GoToMyPC for the first time, to allow client restricted access of my computer for their account only, but GoToMyPC won't only allows global access to all accounts.
    - I then tried YouSendIt (file too large as it's 2.61GB and limit is 1GB)
    - Tried 'Cute Send It' as it has a 4GB limit (allowed me to select the file but constantly stalled on 'calculating time')
    - I then tried ShareFile - (everything looked promising as it had 10GB limit, signed up for the 30 free day trial with my credit card details, then when I went to select the library from my desk top it was 'grayed out').
... anyone else got any suggestions?
Any help much appreciated as it's urgent now as I've been at it all day!

    Scott
For the remote desktop solution you could try:
    1) Adobe's [ConnectNow|http://www.adobe.com/acom/connectnow>. This is a screen-sharing service which might fit your requirements but (1) it requires you to initiate a session so requires some input your side, and (2) I'm not sure what would happen if you switched user away from the account on your Mac you enabled for your client (i.e. would the connection die)?
    2) Apple's [BackToMyMac|http://www.apple.com/mobileme/features/mac.html] service is a screen and file sharing function that comes as part of a MobileMe subscription. It would allow your client to access your Mac computer (if s/he also has a Mac) but I suspect again it might not fit your requirements as it's really meant as a solution to share your own computers (and not to share with third parties)...you would need to share your MobileMe details with the client.
Alternatively if you just want to send them the files:
    1) Again, as part of Apple's MobileMe, the [iDisk|http://www.apple.com/mobileme/features/idisk.html] service allows you to share storage space with third parties. Crucially, from a security perspective, you do not need to share your whole storage space but can select certain files or zipped folders to be shared (these can also be protected with a password).
    2) Another option - and this is very old school I know - might be to just ship them the project/library on DVD (unless they don't have an Apple computer nor an Aperture licence)? I have an FTP server in my studio but for large deliveries of TIF files of over 2GB the process is painfully slow (for the client) and I usually just end up couriering them a DVD!

I am traveling in Chile, South America. I purchased an Entel sym card and I can make and receive phone calls, but the internet only works on WiFi. Do I need to region unlock or what? I willl only be here for A month and a half so I don't want to buy a phone. Any suggestions?

Most of the current Apple Intel based computers are comparable in CPU speed. I don't think it is so much the model of laptop as it is the memory, and storage capacity of the machine. If you are going to use FCP on a regular basis, perhaps as a professional or semi-professional, then you should think about the maximum memory and a very large capacity internal disk drive. For instance, one hour of finished compressed video will take up about 1.5 to 2Gbytes of disk space. If you add up the raw footage and still imagery and audio, you'll use up your disk drive capacity real quick. So a hard disk on the order of 750Gbytes @ 7200rpms might be good for video editing. 5400RPMs might be slow to rendering times. Rendering a video might take up a lot of memory so more memory is better e.g. 8Gbytes.
As a rule of thumb, once you get to about 80% of your disk drive or memory you'll see degradation of performance.
You can check out macsales.com. THey have a menu system that will allow you to pick and choose from various alternatives. BTW, it's been said that although Macs are typically spec'd at a certain memory size, macsales.com found that Apple computers will actually support higher memory levels. That is, if 4Gbytes are spec'd, some machines support 6Gbytes. macsales.com will provide the guidance for you.
You might also consider buying an external disk e.g. 500Gbytes to carry around with you for back-up or transport to another machine.

Hello i am from uruguay south america. Blackberry maps doesnt have uruguay as a coverage area, does anyone know where can i found a software that allow me to use gps with voice step by step to go from one direction to other. Thank you very much

You typically will need a SIM card for the country you are travelling in. If you don't, then you may encounter roaming charges.
You may want to contact your current SIM providor, Optus, and see if they have service in the South American countries you are going to visit.

  • Itune forces to setup as new ipad or restore from backup?!

I have 3 ipads and 2 iphones in my house sharing the same apple ID, but when I tried to connect one of the ipads to itune on my PC, it only gives option to set up as new phone or restore from backup, either option would wipe out the data I already have on the ipad. All other devices can connect to itune without problems. Found another thread with the same problem, but the solution of logging on windows with different user does not solve my problem. Can anyone help? Itune has to be the worst and dumbest product from apple!

I too have this very frustrating issue. It worked fine 2 weeks ago.
I have two devices setup, and they have the same name, but that has never been a problem as one is a 5G 80GB iPod, and the other is an iPhone 3GS.
Now, everytime I plug my iPhone into my PC, iTunes comes up and asks me to restore.
Grrr... I have restored 3 times. I have also performed a complete iPhone reset and a restore... same thing, and I have no idea why.
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    S.
