Tip: Pin your IE Skype for Web tab and never miss ...

Here's a small tip for beta users of Skype for Web on Internet Explorer:
Drag and drop the "Skype for Web" browser tab out of the Internet Explorer window onto your Windows taskbar. You know that you've done it correctly when you will see a "Pin to Taskbar" overlay like in the commented screenshot below.
You will then see notifications about new messages via the familiar orange flashing of the pinned Skype taskbar icon:
Try it out and I'm curious to hear how you like it.

  • Skype for Web (Beta) Mutil problems on Windows 10. 10041.

Is Windows 10 TP, and Internet Explorer 11 compatable with this Skype for web? (Beta). I'm tring to pin the Skype for web beta onto my taskbar. My OS is Windows 10 TP build 10041, and I'm using internet explorer 11. When i try and pin the site to the taskbar i get this message: "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or if one is already installed, create an association in, the default programs control panel".  The Skype web plugin in installed on my PC. I have restarted my PC, but i still get the same message. When i use the skype for web beta, i get this message:"You will need the plugin to make audio, and video calls, get the plugin".

I was unable to see your images.  I took the time to reinstall my 10 TP since the graphics crashed and even safe mode low resolution (VGA mode) didn't work and on top of that I had no restore points.  After I updated my machine to your build I could see what was occurring.   Skype for web beta works just fine in that build for me.  I was able to call my other machine with video and audio which is surprising because my onboard camera worked without having to do the same manipulations I had to do in Windows 8.1.   I generally never pin items to my taskbar in any OS but these are my observations: 1.   Items pinned to the taskbar have a .website extension.  Even though it has IE defined as the default program, it is apparent to me that the pinning portion of the taskbar is broken for now in that build of Windows 10.  The error happens with every pinned website that I tried so that means it's a Technical preview bug and not a Skype for Web beta one.  Not surprising since it's not a released OS. 2.  If you want it to work you should create a shortcut (.url) to http://web.skype.com and no other version of that url (unless it contains login.skype.com) since you will skip authentication causing it to error out with an "oops".  Even if you were to grab a working .website shortcut and pin that to your taskbar, it still wouldn't work since pinning is broken. 3.  You can pin the .URL shortcut by dragging it to the taskbar and it will pin itself as a child process of Internet Explorer. 4.  If the plugin isn't working make sure that you are using IE and not some other browser.  I personally haven't tested it in other browsers but that could be the issue. 5.  Make sure the Windows firewall or any other security software isn't blocking the plugin install or execution.

  • Requests to improve Skype for Web

Hello everyone. Skype for Web (Beta) seems quite decent for the time being.BUT! I got two requests for this, and I do hope it'll be seriously considered and fixed by the team in a short time: Skype for Web Beta propose a Chrome plugin when being used from Opera. Please propose a simpler way for Opera 15+ users to install the plugin (so that newcomers using this browser won't have a "hard" time figuring out how to do so).Skype for Web Beta, Skype Modern and Skype from Outlook share the same issue: We can't change our status to Busy or Away. Is it so hard to provide them? Please add them :/ Otherwise, it can be useful, so thanks for your hard work anyway, and have a good day everyone.

I would check the web skype historic somewhere in the c: the machine eg in the folder " % temp % " for the company to use the skype app just that some older machines are complaining of memory because it is very heavy for them ... one of the fulga options that I found was the web skype but the only problem I found was that there's no way we monitor the message traffic as we made already ...

  • How do I turn off skype for web (beta) when I log-in to my outlook email

I've noticed in the past couple of days that when I log-in to my outlook email page that it shows the new 'skype for web (beta) icon at the top right of the messenger pane instead of the old message link.  How do I  turn this off and go back to the old version as I don't like the new skype for web and much prefer the old style message pane?  I have noted that when I open my People page or OneDrive page that the old version still shows there, so why can't I turn it off in my email page and go back to the original pane? I would appreciate some help and advice on this.  Thanks.

Hi Claudius,, Thanks for replying.  You asked what I preferred about the old message pane.  I just preferred how it looked.  You could see automatically from your contact list who was online as the call/video icons showed clearly beside their name and if you simply wanted to send an IM, you just selected the contact and the IM box would appear at the bottom.  I just don't like how the new skype for web looks at the side of your Outlook email page as I don't like the layout.  I know it all comes down to personal preference and mine is for the old version.  I don't understand why they have to keep making changes to things.  The way I see it is, if something isn't broke, why break it?  The old version worked perfectly well and I preferred it but we, the users, don't get a say in anything because the people who make these decisions just go ahead and change things no matter what. Thanks for clearing this up for me.  I had hoped you could just turn it off and revert back to the old message pane but you say this isn't possible which is unfortunate. Regards, Linda

Any update as to when Web.skype.com will work for Chromebooks?
    I receive page: https://web.skype.com/en/wrongDevice
Sorry, Skype for Web (Beta) isn’t available on this device yet. Please try it on your desktop computer instead.

Please try Skype for Web again on your Chromebook now. It should work (without calling obviously since there's not plugin available).

  • Skype for Web (Beta) announced

Last week we've announced beta availability of Skype for Web which will make it quicker and easier than ever before to connect with friends, family and colleagues around the world, for free – directly from Skype.com. Read all the details about it in our blog post here: http://blogs.skype.com/2014/11/14/please-welcome-skype-for-web-beta/
    The highlights are:
    Get chatting straight away
You can use Skype for Web without having to download an app before you get started, which means anyone new to Skype can get chatting even faster. Simply sign in to Skype for Web on Skype.com and you’ll be able to connect and start instant messaging directly from your browser.
    Connect from anywhere
You can connect to Skype for Web from Internet Explorer, Chrome on Windows, Firefox or Safari on your computer – so whichever browser you prefer, Skype.com is the place to go for all your calls and messaging.
Bringing voice, video and instant messaging to Skype.com
Once you’ve signed in on Skype.com, you can start instant messaging friends straight away. Making great quality voice or video calls is just as easy; simply press the call button to connect. As you may have read in the last few weeks, Skype and our friends at Internet Explorer are starting to implement the technology to make Real-Time Communications (RTC) on the web a reality, but for now, before your first call, you’ll need to install a small plug-in to start your conversation. In the future, using Skype on the web will become even easier and convenient. Imagine you wanted to meet your child’s teacher, or conduct an online interview with a potential candidate -you’ll be able to chat over Skype directly from a browser in just a click. With WebRTC, there won’t be any downloads or installs – you can just get straight to your conversation.
While that work continues, look out for access to Skype for Web on Skype.com in the coming weeks – give it a try and let us know what you think here on the community and through the feedback links in Skype for Web.

  • Skype for Web on chromebook

    Hi!
When can we expect to see a working version of skype for web on the Chromebook? The only solution to running skype on it currently is either a (crappy) third party app/website or installing the android version which, to be blunt, is badly optimized and kills the chromebook in terms of battery life and RAM/processing power.
    Thanks in advance!
    Spencer

I'd been looking for a way to get Skype on my 2-year-old Samsung Chromebook for a looooong time. Lots of posts, either requiring installation of another OS, Ubuntu, or very complicated instructions that were beyond my capabilities, or that just didn't work. I was so frustrated, because I really need Skype to work on my Chromebook, which I love totally. This Skype glitch has been the only problem. (I do some volunteer video language tutoring, and some students haven't been able to get Google Hangouts to work on their computers.)
I did not give up, but kept Googling, and several weeks ago found this post that actually worked, and had instructions I could figure out pretty easily:
    http://www.redsome.com/how-to-run-skype-on-google-chromebook/
There were some minor differences, but nothing I couldn't figure out pretty easily. So anyway, I installed it and have been using it successfully for about three weeks with no problems. I have made regular phone calls, sent text messages, and conducted several long video calls, including sending multiple texts to the other person. All worked perfectly.
So I'm a happy camper. I just wish Microsoft and/or Google would get off the stick and have a Skype extension available right from the Chrome appstore. This little competition thing is ridiculous.
Hope this helps someone else. I posted here months back, but nobody seemed to have a solution that worked for me. For those of us with the inexpensive Chromebooks, it's not an attractive option to take up so much memory to install a second OS. I know Google is working towards making it easier to install Android apps on Chromebooks. But it still irks me that I can easily download and nstall Skype on my Kindle and my phone, but not on my Chromebook!

  • Why is skype for web not being developed for linux?

i tried to get the skype extention for chrome on linux. and well i got that icon error. so i tried to work arround the error and was seccessful in getting the plugin installed. but the actual skype for web aplication doesn't seem to want to utilize the skype calling extention even after using a user agent to trick the skype for web page into thinking i am using chrome on windows. i end up hacing to install the windows plugin. and the skype for web page doesn't like to use the Skype Calling extention.but anyway  iwanted to know why the skype for web plugin is not being compiled for linux. i see no reason why someone couldn't just compile the plugin for linux with the already existing code. i would be willing to volunteer to compile the plugin and release the plugin for linux.

Hi and welcome to the Skype Community,
Skype for Web is currently a Beta version with support for calling via the plugin being limited to popular browsers on Windows and Mac. Unfortunately supporting calling on Chrome for Linux requires a bit more than simply recompiling the plugin. Going forward we are looking to add more features and allow calling on even more platforms, potentially even Linux.

  • WLC: which software-version support SHA2 certificates for Web Authentification and Web Management ?

    Hello,
I tried to install new SHA2 3th-Party certificates on our WLCs. There are old WiSM1-Boards and 2504 to support our old 1230 Access Points, running 7.0.251.2, which didn't install it, although the config manual for 7.6 and 8.0 say that SHA2 certificates are supported since 7.0.250.0. When I tried to install the SHA2-certificates I get the message "File transfer failed" an the log says:
    *TransferTask: Dec 12 13:22:14.394: #UPDATE-3-CERT_INST_FAIL: updcode.c:1869 Failed to install Webauth certificate. rc = 1
*TransferTask: Dec 12 13:22:14.394: #SSHPM-3-KEYED_PEM_DECODE_FAILED: sshpmcert.c:4085 Cannot PEM decode private key
I tried to install the same certificates on our WiSM2-Boards, running 7.4.121.0 and I failed too. The same certificates could be installed on a 2504 running 8.0.100 without any problems.
In all 3 cases I tried to install unchained certificates for web management and Level 3 chained certificates  for web authentication. I used the following guides to get the certificates (e.g. taken from the config manual 8.0.100):
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/wireless/4400-series-wireless-lan-controllers/109597-csr-chained-certificates-wlc-00.html
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/wireless-mobility/wlan-security/70584-csr-wlc-00.pdf
Which software versions support SHA2 certificates and which didn't ? Is the a list for it ?
    Regards

    Hello,
I solved the problem. First I used a Debian Linux system with Openssl 1.0.1. After I searched the internet using one of the log messages above I found sites which mentioned to use Openssl 0.9.x. So I tried a productive and security fixes Debian Linux System running Openssl 0.9.8 and I succeeded. The wlcs accepted the certificate files and used it after a reboot. The Web GUI still shows a SHA1 Fingerprint, but the certificate signature Algorithm is SHA2:
    Signature Algorithm: sha256WithRSAEncryption
When you check the openssl.org homepage Openssl 0.9.8 is still one of the actual version of openssl and is still available and fixed. But the Openssl Roadmap says:
"We don't want to have to maintain too many branches. This is likely to include a timescale for the EOL of version 0.9.8"
I don't know the differences between certificates made with openssl 0.9.8 and 1.0.1. Is there anybody who can explain it to me ?
    Regards

  • When I add pictures into MUSE , do the pictures resize for web quality (And so the page loads fast enough) or do I have to do this using an external software like photoshop, etc. ? Thank You

When I add pictures into MUSE , do the pictures resize for web quality (And so the page loads fast enough) or do I have to do this using an external software like photoshop, etc. ?
Also is there any way I can change the contact form email for all of my contact forms at once.
I have over 100 contact forms and i want to make them reach the same email anyway I can do that without going one by one?

If you have placed the image in Muse using File > Place and then scaled the image down in Muse while editing, then Muse publishes/exports the scaled down/optimized image in final output. When using as a Fill, the output size depends on the Fitting option you setup in the Fill options.
As for the contact form email, you would need to specify the email address for each form individually. There is no workflow to edit the same for multiple forms at a time.
    Cheers,
    Vikas
