Tip power cord broke off inside outlet.

The very tip of the male end of my power adaptor broke off INSIDE the computer. It is now stuck in the computer's power outlet. How do I get it out without disassembling my powerbook?
I should add that the outlet is still working and my replacement adaptor charges it, it's just that it doesn't sit comfortably with the other thing still inside it and occasionally it makes a little crackling noise (no sparks, just the noise)
Also, this is the second time that this happened with an Apple power cord in the space of a year. I am not unduly abusing my power cords, so what am I doing to cause this? Are Apple's power adaptors shoddy or is it me?

Yes, that will always be a danger.. which is why you use a tiny tiny amount of glue, and let it dry. You'll be able to pull it out, even if it glues to the metal.. as a non-pourous surface, the bond with the super glue won't be very strong.
Personally, I'd very seriously consider stripping the machine down, following the instructions at http://www.ifixit.com

  • A/c power plug broke off inside machine--how to repair

my daughter's ibook g4 power supply plug broke off, it is inside the socket in the machine--what is the practical way to get this fixed, please?
    thanks--

Hi there and welcome to Apple Discussions!
Your question is not unique, as unfortunately some users have experienced
some mishaps with their DC line-in plug (and socket) and so if you can
get the broken piece out of the computer's DC-in socket, that would be a
good thing. Sometimes a visit to a full service Apple Store (official) where
a Genius bar exists, and you've called ahead for a specified time, a skilled
person there may be able to figure out how to remove the broken end.
Of course, a replacement power supply is generally needed, to restore
    the illuminated original plug with an identical part is almost impossible;
though I have read about people getting a generic plug and managing
to get the DC polarity correct (so as to not damage the computer.) But
the best fix would be to get a new replacement Apple power adapter.
Getting the broken "pin" section of the AC Adapter's DC plug out of
the computer is the larger concern; since the socket itself may be
damaged if this isn't done properly. Or it may have been damaged
by the action that caused the plug to be broken in the first place.
There are several posts in these Discussion forums, the iBook G4
    and G3 (white) and PowerBook G4 models use a similar power setup;
so finding replies already posted is not hard.
In fact, I replied to one such post and so searched back and found
the URL to a question and replies. Note mine is near the end of this:

And the quoted text in that post is from one of the links in the post.

The blue letters in the post are links to outside web sites; I am not
sure of the total validity of their content and they only serve to show
someone has tried some ideas and they may have had adequate
results from them; and that's about as far as I'd go. They're worth a look.

  • Dropped Lacie 250 Gig -- Power plug broke off. Help!

It happens to the best of us. I accidently knocked my 250 gig Lacie Hardrive off my desk and it fell on the ground. The male power plug with 4 prongs broke off inside the female portion of the plug. In other words, the female part of the power plug in the Lacie drive where you insert the power plug is broken because the power plug prongs broke off the male power cord and are stuck inside.
I have no idea what to do. Can I fix this power plug? Can I pull out the metal prongs that are stuck inside the female part and buy a new power cord? Do I need to pull ou the hard drive and buy a new Lacie case? I appreciate your help in advance. I can't believe I did this and I am hoping for a good solution.

If I understand your situation correctly, you might be able to pull the broken pins out of the socket and buy a new power supply. I'm not sure which one you have, perhaps like this:
    http://www.lacie.com/us/products/product.htm?pid=10735
Of course, something else may be broken inside from the fall, including the drive.
You can identify parallel ATA/IDE drives by a large ribbon connector on the end, plus the 4 pin power connector. Serial drives have the power connector and a small single wire serial connector. My guess, if you have the common LaCie silver drive, is that it's a parallel.

  • Part of my power adapter broke off in powerbook power point!

i unplugged the power adapter from the powerbook and the male end has broke off and stuck in the powesupply hole. so wedged in, is there any safe ways to fix it? never opened up my powerbook and had a looksy.... :[

I've done this once. Some have suggested putting a drop of superglue onto the tip of a small stick (like a toothpick) and carefully touching it to the broken tip.
I had success heating a small glob of solder to a small wire with my soldering iron, and touching it to the broken tip, then removing the iron quickly. I held the wire with tweezers. One has to be careful in any event to not touch the outer hole with glue or solder.
Naturally you remove the battery first. Access to the power jack isn't much better when the computer is opened.

  • IMac G5 does not turn on after power cord knocked off

I have an iMac G5 that I recently passed on to my daughter. For the past few years it has been working fine except for one occasion that I replaced the power supply. At that time it was still covered by warranty and Apple sent me a replacement unit that I installed myself. Lately, the power cord was knocked off while the computer was on and now it will not turn on completely. It starts for about 15 seconds up to the gray Apple logo then the screen goes blank. I monitored the LEDs and all 3 do turn on then the computer shuts down. At first I thought it's the power supply that was affected with the power cord accident, and bought a replacement unit. I have just installed it but still the same problem exist. I am now asking for help from the expert souls out there to save this computer. Thanks.

No more ideas except to try starting from the install disc and see if that works. Resetting the PRAM might jolt it back to life, it's worth a try, but I am not hopeful.
If you do take it in, please let us know whether it was the logic board...

  • Power cord broke?

Hi the two metal "tangs"? on my power cord on my mac book now fold up seperatly.I may have broken it. Is it still safe to use?

What do you mean by fold up separately?
The two metal prongs fall out of the plastic and is not connected to it? (not safe to use)
or is lose and folds in/out by itself? (still safe to use)

  • Power Cord/Shut Off

When my Mac Book is plugged in, if the cord gets pulled out (which is easy as it is magnetic) the computer shuts off... Is there a way to stop this from happening?

Sounds like you have a battery problem. Are you sure it's charged? If you click on the battery gauge in the upper-right corner, it'll give a percentage -- if the power connector light is green, the battery should be over 95%. Is it?
If you have an Apple store nearby, I'd stop in and show them the problem, and see if they can diagnose it. I had a battery stop accepting a charge after I discharged it, and they ended up replacing the battery. (The computer was fine.)

  • My brand new charger broke off inside my iPad air...

ive had my iPad air for two years  now and I've had every iPhone since the second one that came out... but all of a sudden the "high" quality charges that apple are offering obviously aren't of the quality they say. three brand new chargers I've bought in the last two weeks have all broken, one inside my iphone 6 and two inside my iPad... When will this stop? And how much will I have to spend on chargers until it does?

Theyve never broken before, I've been an apple customer for years now... And I've spoken to friends that the same happens to, but not as often... so I know it can't be my fault... I could understand if I was a kid ramming it into the charging port... But I'm nearly 20 and i don't think I could be more careful. I took all chargers back and stormfront (the franchise that sells Apple products) agreed it shouldn't be happening but said Apple disagreed their chargers were at all "faulty" and so meaningtwo choices I have to just buy new ones... Or sell my devices and see what Samsung have got which I do not want to do...

  • PB freezes when unplug power cord from laptop but not power outlet

Hi. Been having a dilemma with my PB for awhile. When I unplug the power cord from the connection in the PB, my laptop will work fine for a few minutes but always freeze at some point. By 'freeze' I mean the cursor will not move and the keyboard, trackpad, etc will not respond at all. I can restart it and continue to work until it will (always) freeze again. Strangely enough, if I unplug the power cord from the wall outlet but leave it in the side of the PB, I don't have any freezing problems. I'm not that savvy with Apples yet since I made the switch but I've tried resetting the pram thing but to no avail.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

  • Broken power cord?

I think there's a problem with my power cord. When I plug it in to my iBook, the little green light comes on as usual. Only, I had been running my iBook on battery power beforehand and the little light ought to be orange to indicate it's charging. The battery would not charge at all and now it's completely drained. I can't use the power cord at all, and now with my battery completely drained, I can't even wake my iBook from sleep mode.
I'm not sure, but I think the pin broke off inside my iBook - it feels like there's something inside, but I don't know.
What on earth has happened and how might I fix this? I'm really far away (about 450 miles) from my nearest Apple Authorised Service Provider, so is it possible to requiest service online? Also, would the repair for this be covered under my warranty? (I have the Apple One Year Limited Warranty).
    Thanks for any help

    Hi Kimberly,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
The following article will help you trouble shoot the problem. If the pin is broken off, I doubt Apple will warrant it. If it's a bad power adapter or another hardware issue, it should be covered. In any case, it can be done via athe phone and a package delivery service. • Sony Bravia KDL-46W5100 power on then off.

Hello, I have a Sony Bravia KDL-46W5100 TV. It powers on, the backlight shows activity as in you can see that it wants to do something, then powers itself back off then back on in a cycle.. What could the issue be? If you tell me a board please be specific in which board would cause this and why. Thank you

    Hi CraigH,
    Welcome to the Sony Community!
Please perform the steps below to troubleshoot your issue"
    Power Reset
    Turn off the television.
IMPORTANT: For a projection television that uses an internal lamp, wait 5 minutes after turning off the television to allow the lamp to cool before continuing with the following steps.
Unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet.
Let the television remain without power for 60 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.
NOTE: If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.
    Turn on the television.
    Factory Reset
Unplug the TV power cord from the electrical outlet.
Allow the TV to remain without power for one minute.
Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.
NOTE: The TV should turn on automatically. If it does not, turn it on.
Wait approximately 40 seconds for the TV to completely start up.
On the TV remote control, press and hold the UP ARROW button.
While holding the UP ARROW button, press and release the POWER button on the TV set.
    Release the UP ARROW button.
NOTE: The initial setup screen displays if the above procedures were performed correctly.
    8. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the initial setup.
