Tip: the iWeb server is case sensitive

the server is case sensitive.
<web.mac.com/yourname/iWeb> will work but
<web.mac.com/yourname/iweb> will return the 404 missing page error.
I've filled out a feedback form asking that Apple make the server non-sensitive. others might want to do the same to make accessing the iWeb server more user friendly.

Actually this is the case on the whole Internet.
http://www.apple.com/ilife/
and
http://www.apple.com/iLife/
Those two URL's are refferencing two different pages. If you go visit the second one you will also get a Page not Found error. The reason is because ilife and iLife might be two different pages / folders on the apple website.
In general :
Not Case Sensitive Case Sensitive
http://www.apple.com/ilife/
The part which indicates the web server adress ( http;//www.myisp.com ) isn't case sensitive. Anything which comes behind that IS case sensitive.
There is nothing Apple will be able to do about that, because that is how the whole Web World Works

Stefaan

What I don't understand is this:  I originally bought and installed Photoshop CS6 back in March 2013, and it worked fine.  Yesterday my hard drive had to be replaced and my computer person salvaged as much of what was on it as he could, but now I have to reinstall Photoshop.  1) Why did it work before and it's not working now?  2) Is there anything I can do that does not involve reformatting the hard drive?

It means what it says. The "computer person" formatted it wrongly/ unsuitably. it needs to be formatted again.

  • How to upload site created with Dreamweaver via FTP to the iWEB server?

    Hi everyone,
I recently created a site on Dreamweaver and want to upload the site, via FTP to the iWEB server. My questions are the following:
    1. What is the FTP host address?
    2. How do I connect to my website via FTP?
Any help on the following questions will be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

Hello Lauretta and welcome to the forum.
You do not connect to iDisk via FTP. iDisk uses WebDAV. Also you do not need to manually upload the published files to iDisk as recommended buy others in this thread. Once the site and server is set up in DW you can publish and upload directly through DW.app Check out this post for more info.

    Hi,
I had created a Link server for with oracle . it working fine ,only issue is table name are case sensitive.
when i run Select * from temp , it is running directly in oracle but when i try to run this by link server it says temp table don't not exists .
And if i Write Select * from TEMP then it works. Can any one know how to fix this issue case it very difficult to remember table name with case.

    Hi Mujahid.hassan,
Thank you for your update. As I mentioned above the collation of an identifier depends on the level at which it is defined. The database name is sever level collation and is assigned the default collation of the instance.
The server collation acts as the default collation for all system databases that are installed with the instance of SQL Server, and also any newly created user databases. The server collation is specified during SQL Server installation
If you want to change the server level collation you need to rebuild your system databases. For how to Setting and Changing the Server Collation, please follow the steps in changing the server collation section from
    here.

  • How do I change the Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled) Format of my Verbatim External Hard Drive

    Good evening.
I have a Verbatim External Hard Drive, currently being used for my Time Machine back-up on my MacBook (Running Mac OS X Version 10.6.8).
I also frequently use a normal Windows laptop (Normal 32-bit OS).
The Hard Drive was formatted to Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled) in order for the MacBook to do the Time Machine back-up.
How do I change the fromat of the Hard Drive, as i do not need the Time Machine back-up to be done on the Hard Drive anymore, and I NEED to use the external in both PC's.
Your assistance will be greatly apreciated.

Open Disk Utility, select the external hard drive, select erase, and format it as FAT32. You'll be able to use it with both Mac and Windows.

    Hi pavan,
generally case sensivity is related to InfoObject Master Data.
Take a look via Tcode RSD1 to the master data of your InfoObject and check in first screen if flag for capitol letters has been marked.
If this is the situation it is a problem, because MAster Data in cube have been saved as different if are written like "Letter" or "LETTER".
    Ciao.

  • Are there any current problems connecting the iWeb server?  I can't sign in.

I've tried to publish for the last couple of days and receive an error message that the server isn't available and can't sign in

    Try this:
go to the System/MobileMe preference pane and log out of MMe.
login with a bogus username and password like "Ying" and "Yang". This clears the caches.
login with your correct username and password.
    launch iWeb and try again.

  • Is the Adobe ID (email) case-sensitive?

I recently borrowed a book from my library, downloaded it with Adobe Digital Editions (and was able to open it on the PC) and transferred it to my (Adobe authorized) Kobo Mini reader. Unfortunately the reader refused to open the book because “it is not currently authorized for use with your Adobe ID”. I reset the reader, signed in with my Kobo account, authorized it again with Adobe Digital Editions, but got the same error.
I use one and the same email address as my account ID for Adobe and Kobo but noticed that the one for Kobo is spelled with lowercase letters while the one for Adobe has its first letter capitalized. Is this a problem?
I tried changing my Adobe ID to lowercase on the Abobe's website but got error “That Adobe ID is not available. Please try another address.”
This is the first DRM book I am trying to access on my Kobo.
    Thank you.

I don't think that the Kobo account is relevant at all.
Also, email address capitalization is usually ignored; though maybe there is some bit of ADE  (Adobe Digital Editions) or the Kobo that does not ignore it.
When you say my (Adobe authorized) Kobo Mini reader I assume you mean that you authorized it using 'Authorize Device' from ADE?
It might be worth trying ADE1.7.2, though I am not at all sure it will help.
ADE 2.0 has some peculiar bugs: for example it won't work at all with most Sony eReaders for reading library books.
Yours is clearly a little better than that, in that it works enough to get the book to the eReader, which is why I am a little pessimistic.
However, using 1.7.2 has proved a success for many different issues with 2.0 on this forum, so worth a go.
There are lots of bugs in ADE2.0 (and 2.0.1).  Try replacing ADE2.0 with the older but more reliable v1.7.2.
(You can have them both installed at once if you like.)
Version 1.7.2, it is a little difficult to find, available on Adobe site for Windows and for Mac.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-editions/kb/cant-install-digital-editions.html
The forum software is sometimes corrupting the link above.  There shouldn't be a blank in 'editio ns.html'.  The following redirects to the same page: http://tinyurl.com/diged172
Some people have found ADE trying to upgrade automatically.
It appears (not 100% sure) that if you install ADE2.0 as a new install (not as an upgrade) that your 1.7.2 will continue to run.
Probably best to say no if 2.0.x installation asks if you want to migrate your library.

  • Renaming filenames and case-sensitivity: a race condition in the OS?

There appears to be a curious set of circumstances where the OS doesn't allow you to rename a file where the only changes are case-sensitive. For example, "foo.JPG" to "foo.jpg". You can see an example using the command-shell "tcsh". Start this shell (type "tcsh" at any command prompt), and then type:
    % touch foo.JPG
    % mv foo.JPG foo.jpg
    overwrite foo.jpg? (y/n [n])
Now, you may think it's no problem because few people use tcsh, but the problem is more systemic that should be addressed because I'm finding the problem at a programming level as well. The simplistic tcsh example illustrates the problem: the internals of tcsh call the OS-layer library function rename(2) to move or rename a file. However, something in the OS that reports back that the new filename exists (even though it doesn't) Because it sees foo.JPG, and it doesn't differentiate letter case, it thinks foo.jpg exists, so it returns an error to the calling program. In this case, it's tcsh, which is what prompts the user to overwrite. It doesn't matter what you answer, the result is the same. If you say yesthe OS doesn't see them as different, so it doesn't do anything.
If you're a programmer, you can see this happen for yourself by writing a small program that does the same thing:
    #!/usr/bin/perl
    if (!rename "foo.JPG", "foo.jpg") {
    print "Error: $!\n";
This simple perl script just calls the rename(2) library call, which is part of the OS.
What I don't understand is why this error happens, when, and how to get around it. Obviously, other programs that rename files don't have this problem. The default shell, bash, doesn't have a problem either--even though tcsh (also a similar command-line shell) does. In fact, most programs don't have this problem. But as a programmer, I'm not sure what I should be doing. This exact same perl script (and correlating C programs) work perfectly well on all other unix platforms I've tried.
    G5 Mac OS X (10.4.5)

It's not at the os layer, it's at the filesystem
layer. The filesystem you have is not case sensitive.
well, the filesystem is part of the operating system, although it's clearly only one component of it. In fact, one of the primary defining characteristics of unix is how the filesystem works, albeit there are variations of implementation. But this is a nit=picking point.
As to the issue of whether the filesystem truly is case-insensitive, that isn't so clear. I can rename a file from foo.JPG to foo.jpg easily in the Finder (just click and edit a file to change it's name from upper to lower, or mixed), and the new name you give it DOES change. similarly, I can do this with virtually any other app that has a file-finder style dialog box. Why I can't do it with the shell (or at an API level) is the real mystery, and there is no doc on the subject that I'm aware of. Clearly, the OS is preserving the change somewhere, somehow. the question is, who's doing it? (and if it's not part of the filesystem, why?)
It could be that some other layer is sitting on top of the filesystem that is overseeing such actions, and is preserving the case of the filenames, but this is such a huge waste of time and work, all for a "feature" whose value is still as yet unclear to me.
If it is, as you say, that "my version" of the filesystem happens to be case-insensitive, I'd love to know where that came from, and what the rationale was behind it. And, of course, how to get some version of the filesystem that doesn't have this feature. I've been working with unix systems at every layer since 1983, and have never run into such a thing before.

My Time Machine backup keeps failing.  I get a message the "Volume has the wrong case sensitivity for a backup".  Please advise.
    Thanks, Howard

You can change the case sensitivity of the sparsebundle.. but I really doubt the error is real.
    See A8 here.
    http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
The sparsebundle should have case sensitivity turned on.
I cannot even fathom how it could have changed.
Let me recommend before you start fooling around with the sparsebundle.
    Do a full network start.
Power everything off.. start up modem.. wait 2min.. power up the TC.. wait 2min.. power up any other network gear like switches.. wait..
Now power up the computer and try it.
If the error is the same.. I would do a factory reset of the TC.. give it all short names, no spaces and pure alphanumeric. Then reset TM .. see A4 in the same reference as above.. and do a verify of the backups.. A5 above and try the backup again..
    No luck..
Then erase the TC and start over.. it is sometimes necessary as TM does get itself in a knot.

  • File System Case Sensitive - breaks Write-Once

I don't find a System property that denotes if the file system is case sensitive.
If I want a FileFilter to behave as the user is expecting - it must know if the file system that it is running on is case sensitive. For example: On a DOS system the file apple.txt should be returned with the file PEACH.TXT by a FileFilter that is accepting *.TXT files. But on a Unix system only the PEACH.TXT would be returned (case sensitive).
How would I make my FileFilter a true write-once-run-anywhere class?
    What am I missing?
    David

    For a file filter,
you can get the file name and convert it to lowercase,
then compare to a lowercase extension. It's not like
that will rename the file, the file will still have
whatever name the file has. However for a FileFilter that is case sensitive - there is a difference in what a File.listFiles(new ExtensionFilter("txt")) returns. And one can not just decide that it doesn't matter.
Here's a specfic example. On a case insensitive system what is the next file in the sequence of:
    File.001, File.002, File.003, file.004
    Answer: fILE.005 - is valid
But on a case sensitive system if one uses a FileFilter to find all the files that match "File".* then the answer is "File.004" - ONLY ONE answer, and creating this file will not (should not) overwrite the file.004!
Seems to me one needs to match the FileFilter to the underling OS - because chances are the user is expecting OS file system naming conventions. If the user doesn't know what file system (and can't know - like on a web server app) then the system better be smart enough to not mess up and clober files.
So it appears to me that a programmer needs to be able to ask the System what it's file system convention is. And sure I could guess based on some other properties (System.os.name or as Sun did based on file.separator) - but I was hopeful that I didn't need to GUESS.

  • Change in SQL from case sensitive to case insensitive

    Hi Experts
We have to change the collation setting for one of my clients databases (SAP doc at the time was erroneous) I am wondering if I can change at the same time the DB from being case sensitive to being case insensitive?
    thx,
    Richard

    Hi Richard,
Are you upgrading from SQL2005 to 2008? We had this problem as it was installed w/SQL2005. What we did was install SQL2008 concurrently with 2005 so we could do a test to ensure fixing the collation would solve some problems with core functionality as well as add-ons, which it did.
Even though all the databases were CI/case insensitive, because the server was CS/case sensitive, it caused problems. You probably have the same. And if you don't, when you upgrade to SQL2008 it seems to do this for you.

  • CSS cookieurl: case sensitive?

    Hello,
As far as I understand, the HTTP header cookie field, and the embedded cookie (in a URL) are case-sensitive. Is this correct?
    The settings look like this:
    content stickyCookie
    advanced-balance cookieurl
    string prefix "SESSION_ID="
On the HTTP header the cookie field looks like this:
    Set Cookie: SESSION_ID=ABCDEF
But if instead of this, the request comes from a client with the cookie embedded in the url, it looks like this:
    http://localhost/Info/index;session_id=ABCDEF?page=home.
Is this field case-sensitive for the CSS? I know it is for the ACE, as I have done this and there is the "cookie secondary" command where you can specify how the url-embedded cookie looks like.
So I am afraid there is no way of making this work on a CSS?
Any help will be much appreciated!

    Hi Javier,
The Cisco CSS is case-sensitive when searching for this string.
When configuring the CSS 11000 and 11500, determine first if you need a server cookie string. If the string operation under the content rule is match-service-cookie, which is the default setting, this parameter must be configured. In this case the service cookie string is matched against the cookie contained in the HTTP header for load balancing decision.
If the string operation under the content rule is set to the hash method, this parameter is not needed. In order to select one of the available servers, the cookie contained in the HTTP header is mathematically processed using a hashing algorithm. If available, the hash algorithm assigna the connection carrying a certain cookie to the same server. This example focuses on the match-service-cookie case.
    Note: Cookies are case sensitive.
