Tip to get Search to work in "All messages" in Leopard

I've discovered that upgrading to Leopard has stopped Mail Search working for anything in the main body of the message (From & To & Subject etc, they all work ok).
Although it takes a little longer to do, creating a Smart Mailbox using Entire Message ~ Contains ~ {search text} works fine. If the mailbox is named 'Temporary Search' (or similar), all that's required in future is to right-click and Edit it, then type the search criteria after 'Contains'.

  • I'm can't get iMessage to work with all my Apple devices.

    So i cant seem to get iMessage to work across all my Apple devices. My wife and I use the same Apple ID but have different phone numbers. Is there a way to get all our messages on our shared devices and our personal messages on our phones? (iPad, iMac, MacBook Pro: Shared)

    Hi,
    I have this set up with one Mac and two iPhones  (Not Multiple Macs)
    I added the Apple ID to the Mac for iMessages.
    I then added the Apple ID to the first iPhone.
    I accepted the pop ups on the Mac so that the iPhone was Listed in Receive At (you might have to Restart the App on the Mac to trigger this).
    I then added the Apple ID to the Second iPhone and again accepted the pop ups in the Mac.
    IF this is what you think you did but it is not working remove the Apple ID from both iPhones
    Place the iPhones in Airplane mode fro a few minutes to Break with the server.
    when back in normal mode and in Settings > Messages check the iPhone number is ticked and active.
    (Send a Test message to the Apple ID (Mac) to check)
    Add back the Apple ID if the test works.
    Restart the Mac version to trigger the pop ups and Accept.
    Repeat the set up with tests for send iPhone.
    I have never set this up with one ID on two or more computers but it should work.

    What about when using the "Time Capsule" HD as the external disk, especially when it is connected by ethernet cable? I'm having trouble getting it to work at all. Don't need it to work as anything else, other than a ethernet connected Time Machine backup. Already have a wireless network that works fine so no need to mess with it. We get the internet via cable company and their modem is upstairs and the Time Capsule is downstairs in the basement. The latest error message was about it could not backup as it was already in use (should have written it down before clicking OK and moving on.

    See if this helps...

  • Mail search not working, at all

    Mail search is not working AT ALL for me.  0 results for things that should have hundreds of results.  Have tried most of the suggestions here already - repaired permissions, deleted envelope index files, rebuilt mailboxes, etc.
    Just broken.  Also, these "support communities" seem to be a downgrade from the old discussion boards IMO.  Harder, not easier, to find info.

    I am having the same problem, I can search last names and sometimes get a couple of results to show up, though for the most part I get nothing, even when I know the word is in the subject line and email address.

  • Can't get setMask to work at all

    I am using Flash CS3 with ActionScript 2.0
    I am trying to load a jpg in and display it in an existing movieClip.
    I have created a movieClip on the stage with an instance name of maskMovieClip. I then create a new/empty clip within maskMovieClip, and then load the new clip with the jpg and then try to use the setMask to switch them. I did read that it won't work if jpg's have not finished loading, so I put a for/next loop in my example just to make sure the clips are loaded. Here is my test code:
    //HOW TO RE-PRODUCE PROBLEM...
    //Create one movie clip on the stage with an instance name of maskMovieClip.
    //Create two small jpg pics called pic1.jpg and pic2.jpg.
    //This correctly loads and displays a jpg into maskMovieClip
    maskMovieClip.loadMovie("pic1.jpg", 1);
    //This supposedly creates a new movie clip called newMC within the maskMovieClip
    maskMovieClip.createEmptyMovieClip("newMC", maskMovieClip.getNextHighestDepth());
    //This loads a different jpg into newMC. And just to make sure it worked,
    //I manually tried creating a movie clip on the stage with the instance
    //name of newMC, and it correctly loaded and displayed it.
    newMC.loadMovie("pic2.jpg", 1);
    //This is just to kill some time to make sure both jpg's are loaded
    for (i=0; i<=100000; i++) {
        trace(i);
    //This is supposed to switch from one to the other, but doesn't
    maskMovieClip.setMask(newMC);
    //I even tried this to make sure I didn't have it backwards
    //newMC.setMask(maskMovieClip);
    Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!!!
    Thanks

    I gave up on using setMask... I could not get it to work even with MovieClipLoader class, so I took a different approach...
    I load all the jpegs in like this into their own instance and assign them an increasing depth starting at 0. To display any particular jpeg just change it's _alpha back to 100:
    for (j=0; j<total; j++) { //Pre-load all the images. total is the number of pics in the external XML file
      picLoad = "newMC" + j; //Assign each image a unique name (newMC0, newMC1, etc)
      this.createEmptyMovieClip(picLoad, j); //Set their depth equal to j (newMC0 is depth 0, newMC1 is depth 1, etc)
      this[picLoad]._alpha = 0; //Set their alpha=0 so you can't see them
      this[picLoad].loadMovie(image[j],1); //image[] is an array that contains the location & name of each pic (image[0] = "slideshow/pic1.jpg")
    I then used swapDepths() to move the buttons from their original depth assigned by Flash (which is around -16000) to a higher depth starting at 50000, which is well above the depth of the jpegs I loaded in, so unless somebody wanted to load in more than 50000 images, it should not be a problem. There is actually 2 buttons, a text field and a movieClip (as a background for the buttons and text). I initially could not get swapDepths to work with the buttons and text field... it was only working with movie clips, but then I found out that swapDepths is not available to buttons and text fields by default, but needs to be included. All this was done like this:
    Button.prototype.swapDepths = MovieClip.prototype.swapDepths; //Make swapDepths available for buttons
    TextField.prototype.swapDepths = MovieClip.prototype.swapDepths; //Make swapDepths available for text fields
    button_bg.swapDepths(50000);
    picNum_txt.swapDepths(50001);
    prev_btn.swapDepths(50002);
    next_btn.swapDepths(50003);
    Another possible alternative would have been to use swapDepths to swap each pic back and forth between a manually created movieClip on the stage, but it seemed easier to just write the code to swap my buttons once instead of code for swapping pics everytime!
    Thanks

  • PLEASE HELP ME??? Lost itunes trying to downgrade back from 11.0 & unable to get itunes to work at all now..

    New Itunes setup is the worst one yet!!! I couldn't stand it, so I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling older versions, but now I am unable to get it to work in any version. I have uninstalled & reinstalled several times (trying this with multiple versions). Strange thing is that ever since I uninstalled 11.0 I have not been able to get any of the other versions to open at all.. Sometimes an error message box dings & pops up that says something about how to adjust the volume through your itunes, or unable to open file.. other times when I click on the icon it just does absolutely nothing. WILL SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME??? I'm going crazy without my music & I am panicking because I am afraid I may have lost all music (I have thousands & thousands of songs on there).. I'm hoping to find a way to reinstall an older version, but at this point if I can't find a way to bring back the old version, I'll take 11.0 if I absolutely have to (meaning if it's the only way to retrieve itunes without losing my entire library)

    Have latest version of iTunes installed and running. Also make sure you have internet access working and can access Apple websites. Also, make sure you don't have any entries in your hosts file referring to gs.apple.com....If your not sure about how to do that, go ahead and do the rest first. You can come back to that later.....Plug in phone. Put phone in DFU mode.(google put iphone in DFU mode for instructions) Then restore the phone in iTunes by highliting your device in the left column and click on the Restore button. The latest iOS version is 4.3.3. That's what iTunes will restore it to. When it's done restoring, iTunes will ask if you want to restore from a backup or setup as a new phone. I would use the Setup as a New Phone option. Once it's done, you should have a clean install of the iOS and an operating phone, as long as there are no hardware issues with it.

  • How to get search to work on app store of iphone5

    My iPhone 5 is  iOS 8,1.3 (12B466) updated and  13 GB available of 27.3 GB capacity.
    When I open app store ,there are 5 icons showing 5 functions.
    Among them, only "update" can work normally.
    The rest (including 'featured', 'top charts', 'explore' and 'search') can not work at all.

    Hi Kurt,
    If you are having issues with your iPhone's App Store search function as well as several others, you may want to try some things to troubleshoot.
    First, quit all running applications and test again -
    Force an app to close in iOS
    Next, I would try restarting and if needed resetting the iPhone -
    Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    If the issue is still present, you may want to restore the iPhone as a new device -
    How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups
    Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • I was using the clone tool and my computer froze. I could'nt get aperture to work at all, so I turned my computer off and now I can'nt access aperture or my I photo library. I ahve tried re booting my computer several times but I don't know what to do to

    I was useing my colne tool in apetrure when, apeture froze. I could not get it to work again, so I turned off my computer, re booted my machine and tried to open the programme again. I can not get aperture to open again and I can't open I photo either. Does anyone have any suggestions to help me get the programme running again? I have a deadline to meet this evening. Help!

    I have tried both options.
    When I got to point 3 I choose the library I was working on and the same error message popped up, so this option did not work.
    I then tried the second suggestion and chose the repair option but as before there is no sign of a repair database grogress indicator. Where would I be able to see this and what does it look like. I can't see any evidence of anything happening on my screen.
    I have also just tried the first option that comes up in the pop up box where you have to enter your password, this resulted in the same error message.
    I don"t know what to do.
    I don't really want to have to go for the third option where you have to rebuild you data base - Would this result in loosing images?

  • The "My Ebay" page and the AT&T yahoo changed suddenly and some features are non operative. Also the Google instant search stopped working. All this is happening on Firefox. Everything displays and works correctly on IE. What could be wrong?

    Hi, On thursday evening I closed all open windows to do some virus scanning and window washer maintenance. After I was finished I opened up firefox and went back on Ebay and the "My Ebay" window has changed to a totally different appearance and I can't access messages, etc. My AT&T Yahoo email window has also changed its appearance and has selections on it which are new and non operative. They both are now presented as a vertical format and the "My Ebay" window is expanded off the monitor with a blue sliding bar on the bottom and large white areas in the viewing area. I can shrink it down, but I then need a magnifying glass to read it. The opening Ebay sign in window is normal. The opening AT&T sign in window is normal. Also the Google instant search results, which used to appear when I was typing in my search words, has also stopped working. Everything seems to work properly on Internet Explorer. When I double click on the Mozilla icon it takes me to the Mozilla start page and shows me the Google search bar. That is what I normally see. I'm baffled.

    (1) Firefox's built-in post-crash page has not been a real HTML page for a long time (for example, from the time of Firefox 22, see: [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/968212 Want to save LOTS of versions of "Restore Session.xht" from the "oops ..." page for later use]). If you had this working differently with Firefox 25, that might have been created by an extension.
    You can check to see whether extensions are disabled or need an update on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
    In the left column, click Extensions. The disabled extensions cluster toward the bottom of the list. To poll for updates, use the "gear" button above the list and choose Check for Updates.
    If you used the Reset feature (or Firefox automatically did a reset due to some problem during upgrading), you will need to reinstall missing extensions. The reset feature creates a folder on the desktop named Old Firefox Data. Do you have that folder? There may be data you can recover from it.
    (2) There are many ways for history to get cleared, both internal to Firefox and external. Could you double-check your Privacy settings?
    orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Privacy
    * The "Firefox will" drop-down says Remember History: Firefox shouldn't be clearing history, but an add-on or external software could do it
    * The "Firefox will" drop-down says Use custom settings for history: inspect the "Clear history when Firefox closes" setting to make Firefox isn't set to clear history. Also check your add-ons and consider external software.
    Firefox normally accumulates months of history. However, some of Firefox's database sizes are based on disk space available. If your hard drive is very full, Firefox might reduce the amount of history stored.

  • How often do i need to Rebuild Mail to get search to work

    i seem to be not getting correct results on some searches and when i click on an email from someone i /don't/ see the other emails highlighted from this person listed but if i click on /another/ email with this person's same address i /do/ see a /third/ email highlighted in green.
    is this simply a case of needing to run a REBUILD or are there other factors at work here?
    also, does the search dialog in the top right hand corner work the way you would imagine it should? i sometimes don't see results that i think i should.
    i have multiple email boxes (about 13) all listed under "Inbox".
    TIA

    > In "connect by level <= 3000000", this is where I specify the number of records to be
    inserted into the database, right?
    Yes. Caveat - I have not looked at the execution plan of this SQL to see what (if any) the performance and overheads are. I usually only use it for generating 1000's of rows for testing purposes. Not millions. But it seems to work fine with the 3 million limit I used. It should work with 37 million.. touch wood.
    > Another question, if I want to insert random string but with specify constraint, is that possible in SQL?
    Yes - you can use the CASE statement in SQL. The CASE statement is described in the Oracle® Database SQL Reference guide.
    Obviously using a CASE statement will have a performance impact of sorts - but it will still be faster than using a PL/SQL function to do it.
    > how about BLOBs?
    That depends on what are you planning to put into the LOB. If each row has to contain a random BLOB, then you may need to resort to a PL/SQL function that can return a randomly generated BLOB of a random length.
    If the BLOB can be fixed, you can do it with a bind variable - as a CLOB. Define a PL/SQL procedure (or function) that returns a CLOB of the size that you need. Let's call this procedure CreateClob.
    In SQL*Plus you define a CLOB bind variable:
    SQL> var b CLOB
    Then you call this proc and assign the resulting CLOB that it creates to the bind variable:
    SQL> exec CreateClob( :b )
    Now you can use the CLOB bind variable in the SQL statement. E.g.
    SQL> insert into foo( clob_col ) values( :b );
    Consult the Oracle® Database PL/SQL Packages and Types Reference guide for details on the DBMS_LOB package.
    Both documents contains all the details and includes examples - and are references that I still use almost daily when dealing with Oracle. Copies of Oracle docs are available at http://tahiti.oracle.com

  • Cannot get xorg to work at all

    Granted I have yet to try vesa, but frankly if I cannot get the fglrx driver to work then I am not interested in this distro. Following the wiki instructions has gotten me nowhere and forum searches have turned up 4 year old posts. I have installed Xorg 1.11 from the repository listed on the catalyst page. I have installed the drivers also from the repo listed on the wiki page. I have a Dell XPS 1645 with an AMD HD 5730. fglrx module is running radeon is blacklisted and is not running. nomodeset is on my kernel line. running Xorg -configure says no devices to configure. fglrxinfo says unable to open display (null). If I delete xorg.conf startx says failed to load module ati, vesa, and fbdev, and then says fatal error no screens found. If I run aticonfig --initial it creates xorg.conf, but startx still will not work. The screen will go blank like it is about to load but there is an error fglrx: no matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI :0@2:0:1) found and xinit: connection to server lost. Running Xorg -configure still states no devices to configure. I'm really hoping this is something stupid that I have missed doing, as I do want to use this distro but my time is not infinite, and ubuntu and friends are just so easy. Not like I've never run Arch or Gentoo before either. If my tone is off I'm sorry, it's 2:30 AM here and I'm tired

    I also had trouble with my ATI Radeon after the upgrade and solved the problem by a revert.
    For this I used (for "extra") the repository http://arm.konnichi.com/2012/03/10/extra/os/i686/
    The archlinux wiki explains for "xorg" how to do reverts using such repositories ;-)
    I now run upgrades like this (example as of today):

    I am trying to find the culprit. Besides xorg, I also blocked ati-dri and libgl. But they work fine on my PC.
    Thus, this is ok:
    ati-dri: package upgrade (7.11.2-1 => 8.0.1-2)
    libgl: package upgrade (7.11.2-1 => 8.0.1-2)
    In /etc/pacman.conf I entered:
    # Pacman won't upgrade packages listed in IgnorePkg and members of IgnoreGroup
    IgnorePkg = xorg-server-common
    IgnoreGroup = xorg

  • Can't get Search to work in Blog or Archives

    "Republished All" to .mac and Search still fail to work in either the primary blog page or the archives.
    All I've ever gotten back is "Your search did not produce any results."
    Can't seem to find any other threads that solve the problem so any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm having no other problems.
    Cheers, Randy

    Hi Guys
    I've been having this problem ever since I upgraded to iWeb 2. The dotmac help team have been incapable of doing anything about it for three months!
    Due to their incompetence I'll probably have to totally wipe and rebuild the site, which was what I had to do after the iWeb 1.1 upgrade!
    iWeb is great - I don't have to speak html or deal with B!@#%*& hosting geeks but it would be nice to have the site survive at least one upgrade...
    Cheers
    Jeff
