Tips for charging new ipad

Really disappointed in the amount of time required to charge new Ipad.   Anyone come up with a plan b on this topic?

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. I have an iPad 3 GB - do I need a special charger for this older model?  The charger for a newer iPad seems to fit, but I do not get any kind of display that it is charging.

    Did you try another cable?
If you are using a USB to iPad dock connector (older iPads do not use the newer Lightning connector) then
The Dock connector or the USB cable may be bad.

  • Can I use my 10W iPad 2 charger for the new iPad air?

I need several chargers - work, home, travel. Therefore, can I use the 10W chargers from previous iPad models for the new iPad Air? I don't want to purchase 2/3 additional chargers when I purchase my new iPad. Also, can I use the 12W iPad air charger for my iPhone? I don't want to fry it so want to confirm beforehand.

The new model will have the 12W charger, so you should be able to use it with the new model - from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4327 :
iPad models come with one of two different adapters. iPad (third generation) and earlier comes with a 10W adapter while iPad (4th generation) comes with a 12W adapter. iPad mini comes with a 5W adapter.
While these USB Power Adapters are designed for use with iPad or iPad mini, you can use them to charge all iPhone, iPad, iPad mini, and iPod models by connecting them with either the Lightning to USB cable or the 30-pin to USB cable.

  • Does anyone know of a suitable dock for the new iPad Air?

After purchasing a new iPad Air on Friday, I searched for a charging/syncing dock from Apple.  There are none!  Then, I searched the Internet for 3 days, and the choices are few.
Does anyone know of a good and sturdy dock for the new iPad Air?  I have very little desk space and always buy an Apple dock for my iPhones and iPads.
Is it possible that the dock for the iPad 4 could be used for the new iPad Air?  Currently, I have an iPad Third Generation and its own dock, which is 30 pins.  The available 8 pin adapter is not sturdy enough to put an iPad Air on.
For my iPhone 5, I have a Twelve South High Rise dock (because of the case), but it won't do for an iPad.
    Any ideas?

This isn't going to be super helpful because I don't know of any by name, but have you looked through App Store? I am almost positive you will come across at least one in there. This assumes you are running software version 2.0.

  • Can I return my iPad2 for the new iPad

My parents bought me the new ipad2 in January and they also pay for the one year guarantee. The iPad 2 is brand new in good condition. Now, can I return my ipad2 for the new iPad without paying?

No, unless the store you bought it from has a very generous return policy - the Apple Store official policy is 14 days. The one year warranty is on defects in the product, not for upgrading. You can sell your iPad and use the funds to buy a new one, but you will likely sell for less than you paid.

  • Re: Mifi and Charging - does this work for charging the iPad?

I found the following post on here - but it is too old for me to reply directly to it - however, this was a very good post and it worked for me and I would really like to get in touch with mikebob to see if the same thing would work for charging the iPad - his ideas really work. And does he or anyone know how to charge the iPad from batteries?
    thanks a lot

I finally managed to figure out the proper cabling to get the Verizon Mifi 2200 to charge using a generic USB charger. To recap the problem... The mifi device will only charge when using the supplied micro usb charger, or when connected to a computer USB port using the supplied micro USB cable. When connected to a computer, the device reverts to it's connected data mode, which turns off the wifi ssid broadcast and requires the Verizon access manager application to be launched. Most third party chargers will not work... including most 12V lighter to USB adapters, and most backup battery solutions.
Here is what is going on... Per the USB specification, Pins 1 and 4 are 5V power and ground respectively. Pins 2 and 3 are data+ and data-. In most chargers, pins two and three are tied via a pullup resistor to the 5V line. If you measure the voltage on 2 and 3 you will see around 3V, equivalent to a logic high state. This has something to do with allowing the device being charged to identify whether it should be in a fast or slow charging mode. More importantly, it is what the Apple iPod expects to see . So, anyone wanting to build generic USB chargers will probably implement this way in order to tap into the single largest device market around. Unfortunately, the mifi does not like the logic high on pins 2 and 3. I haven't yet sorted out why, but when it sees logic high on pins two and three, it refuses to go into charging mode.
The solution is to use a cable where pins 1 and 4 (5V and GND) are carried straight through. Pins 2 and 3 need to be disconnected from the charging source and shorted together at the Mifi end. If this was a miniUSB instead of a microUSB, it would be what is called a "charge only" cable. I have not found any vendors yet for a charge only microUSB cable so I went ahead and performed surgery on a standard microUSB cable. I took a standard USB cable, cut it and then connected it to a microUSB connector from an old Motorola bluetooth headset charger.   Interestingly, the microUSB connector from the Moto charger  already has pins 2 and 3 shorted together internally so all I had to do was connect 5V and ground and heat shrink tube the whole thing. With this cable I can charge the mifi from any generic USB port, including those on 12V lighter adapters, and rechargeable backup batteries. In addition, I can also connect the Mifi to my laptop to charge while continuing to access the Mifi via wifi.
Only word of caution...  You really need to connect the Mifi to your computer using the standard data cable on occasion, say once per month.  The reason is that it is only in this mode that you will receive notifications of S/W updates and/or the need to update your PRL. (preferred roaming list).

Connect to iTunes on the computer you usually Sync with and “ Check for Updates “...
If an Update Appears Install it... if not... you are up to date for your particular Device...

  • HT204053 Can I use my Apple ID that I have for my iPod, for my new iPad? And how?

HELP. Can I use my Apple ID that i have for my iPod, for my new iPad? If so, how?

You can use the same account - go in Settings > Store (Settings > iTunes & App Stores if you are on iOS 6) and sign into your existing account (if you created a new account and are logged in with it then tap on that id and log out of it first). You can then use your old account in the same way as you use it on your iPod.

If it is a lightning to 30 pin adaptor, and you have a 7th Generation Nano it has to fit the Nano.
This is lightning to 30 pin adapter: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Apple%26%23174%3B---Lightning-to-30-Pin-Adapter/6651 936.p?id=1218803450821&skuId=6651936#tab=overview
    Is this what you bought?
You need to contact Sony and see if they model you have is compatible with the docking adapter. It may not be.

  • I sold my ipod (which has always been backed up to Itunes/computer)and am waiting for my new ipad.  Do I have to manually download all my apps on the ipad, or will itunes sync my old ipod apps/music to the ipad?

I sold my ipod (which has always been backed up to itunes/computer) and am waiting for a new Ipad.
Do I have to manually download all my apps on the ipad, or will itunes allow me to sync my old ipod apps and music to the ipad?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can sync your music and apps from iTunes. However since you are moving from an iPod to an iPad, many of the apps will have iPad versions which you will need to redownload.

  • Can you trade in your iPad 2 for a newer iPad?

Can a person trade in their iPad 2 for a newer iPad?

Best buy, amazon both buy used devices for store credit. And they also have online estimators where you can put in the condition of your device, size, model etc and get an estimate of how much you'll get for it.
When I traded in my iPod, best buy only gave me $70 and I could have gotten more from Amazon, but with best buy it was over in half an hour, with amazon it probably would have taken a week or so.

give this a read though, so that you don't inadvertently sell a brick.

  • What is the "correct"  name for the new iPad?  Is it also called the 3rd Generation?

I have the latest iPad, purchased Mar '12.  But when I read Apple News it is referred to as the "new ipad" & somtimed the 3rd Generation.  What is the "correct name & will "SIRI" be available with this Fall latest update?  Thanks!!!

Yes, it is somewhat confusing isn't it. Almost like, the iPad is having an identity crisis. I believe the official Apple line would be that it is the "New iPad" but I see it referred to the 3rd generation just as frequently as the new iPad.
Siri will be available for the "new iPad/3rd Gen when iOS 6 is released this fall.
