Tips for developing Gantt chart
Can anyone say me how to create a Gantt chart...Or any link for sample programs for creating gantt chart without using any tool...Is it possilbe to develop without using any tool?
Hi Shallini,
Depends what you are calling a tool. Some IDE is nice, but I guess the minimal tools for creating a java application are a text editor and a java compiler. I once had a job interview where I had to develop a small application using notepad and javac on windows' cmd. I like eclipse better ;-).
As for gantt charts, here:

HELP!! How to use setData for a Gantt-Chart
Hello,
how can I use the function setData? I've created a page with a resource-gantt-chart and now I want to use this function to set the data to the chart.
The chart has the attribute "static id" = GANT_CHART.
In the HTML-header of the page I tried
<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
function SetDataToChart() {
var data = &F_GANTT_CHART_DATA.;
var chart = document.getElementById('GANTT_CHART');
chart.setData(data);
</script>
where the item F_GANTT_CHART_DATA returns the following:
<resource_chart>
<resources>
<resource id="3002" name="0400006/1" />
</resources>
</resource_chart>
I call the function SetDataToChart() in "Execute when page loads"
Thank you for any help!

How to configure Tooltips for Project Gantt charts
Hi,
I am trying to Display the title of the task as a tooltip for the Project Gantt Chart.
I referred the documentation link and am trying to configure tooltipKeyLabels and tooltipKeys as specified in the link
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/apirefs.1111/e12418/tagdoc/dvt_projectGantt.html
but I could not get this to work.I am unsure about what the data object key refer to in the documentation.
Is it the key of the text resource specified in the tooltip control hints or some other thing?
Any body who has done this before,please share your ideas on this.
I am using jdeveloper 11.1.1.3.0 with ADF-BC.

Problem with gantt chart displaying - Apex4.2
Hi I'm using Apex 4.2 on localhost and
I have got three tables: employee, engineer, dates
-> engineer table is a specification of employee table, that means in employee you can find also the
names of the engineers. Engineer only has an additional attribute.
Here's the structure of the three tables:
employee (e_id, lastname, surname....)
engineer (e_id, attribute)
appointment (a_id, e_id,start, end)
Now my problem: By using the gantt chart the xml doesn't want to show the names of the engineers.
If I only use this sql statement everything works but I only have the e_id from my engineer table:
select
null link,
a.e_id,
(select e_id from engineer where e_id = a.e_id) Engineer,
null parent_id,
a.start,
a.end
from appointment a
If I try to use this statement in order to see the names of the employees no chart will be shown,
only xml error:
select
null link,
a.e_id,
(select emp.lastname from employee emp, engineer e where emp.e_id = e.e_id and e.e_id=a.e_id) Engineer,
null parent_id,
a.start,
a.end
from appointment a
I also created a view which combines the lastname from employee and the e_id from engineer
but same problem.
If I try:
select
null link,
a.e_id,
(select e_id from gantt_view where e.e_id=a.e_id) Engineer,
null parent_id,
a.start,
a.end
from appointment a
Then I'll see e_ids in my gantt chart but if I want to see my employee names
with this statement:
select
null link,
a.e_id,
(select lastname from gantt_view where e.e_id=a.e_id) Engineer,
null parent_id,
a.start,
a.end
from appointment a
Nothing is shown on the gantt chart.
I tested all sql statements on sql developer.
There I was able to see my employee names.
But for gantt charts it doesn't work.
Any solutions?Great!
Of course, hard to diagnose when there's nothing to see.
Here's an old message in a thread from 2010. (To give credit, it's from Hilary Farrell.)

You are correct, the syntax outlined in the error message is incorrect, and I've logged bug 9799373 to track this. SiegwinHi Siegwin,
I've done some digging through the AnyChart documentation, and it looks like you need to look at setting a scale pattern for your Gantt chart. Take a look at the section called Date Time Scale Units Patterns in the AnyChart AnyGantt User's Guide, here: http://anychart.com/products/anygantt/docs/users-guide/timeline-scale.html?fromtree#date-time-patterns. I've updated one of my existing sample Gantt charts to apply a <weeks> pattern, which now displays the calendar week above each week - http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=36648:50 - you'll need to zoom in on the timeline in order to see the weeks of course. To achieve this, I just updated the custom XML region:
from
<timeline>
<plot line_height="30" item_height="15" item_padding="5" />
</timeline>to
<timeline>
<plot line_height="30" item_height="15" item_padding="5" />
<scale>
<patterns>
<weeks>
<pattern>%e</pattern>
</weeks>
</patterns>
</scale>
</timeline>I would recommend that you review the AnyChart AnyGantt User's Guide (http://anychart.com/products/anygantt/docs/users-guide/index.html) and XML Reference (http://anychart.com/products/anygantt/docs/xmlReference/index.html) for any further customisations that you wish to apply to your chart, as they provide some very useful examples and associated XML code, which can prove very helpful.

Hi,
Kylie discovered here that you couldn't have null dates in the project gantt query
APEX 4.0.2 Project Gantt Chart - Error Code: 2002 Message: Empty input
As Valentina suggested, I found the actual dates are mandatory, while the chart tolerates missing planned dates - which is a complete reversal of what actual project data would have.
baseline project gantt with parent-child relationship
What I found though is if some planned dates are missing, the generated XML seems to default with data from previous rows.
As detailed in this screenshot, my red lines indicate missing from/to dates (actual data also shown underneath chart)

ScottHi Ahmed
Thank you for your reply.
The time scales in Gantt chart specifically shows the year, month and weeks from the start date of project definition or basic start of WBS.
Since it is not a decided project, the Gantt chart need to show 0, 1st week, 2nd week, 3rd week etc.
The actual schedule from PD start date can be produced on actual initiation of project.
It means, i am looking for having Gantt chart for duration and not for specific start and finish dates.

Hi Experts
As a part of bidding, client need to produce Gantt chart to the customer.
However, since this is presale process, the exact dates are not indicated but the duration of project to be specified. It means the schedule to show the duration from zero date.
Is it possible to take print of Gantt chart with out dates but duration of individual activity or WBS?
Warm regards

Posible bug building gantt chart in apex 4
Hi fellows,
When building "Project gantt" chart in apex 4 enter the following query:
select 'null' ,
'Proyecto X' ,

null,
sysdate ,
sysdate+10 ,

from dual
I picked up the parameters from the "Chart query example" and the following error displays:
*1 error has occurred*
** Invalid Gantt chart query: Wrong here:12*
Use the following syntax:
SELECT LINK, ID, TASK_NAME, START_DATE, END_DATE, STATUS FROM ...

TASK_NAME Text that displays along a chart task.
START_DATE Date column that specifies the actual start date of the task.
END_DATE Date column that specifies the actual end date of the task.
STATUS Numeric column that specifies the percentage of progress made for the task.
or

STATUS Numeric column that specifies the percentage of progress made for the task.
PLANNED_START_DATE Date column that specifies the planned start date of the task.
PLANNED_END_DATE Date column that specifies the planned end date of the task
As you can see the parameters are diferent ¿? !, I have tried both (lots of variations) but nothing appears to work.
Is this a bug or am I wrong?.
Can u post a simple query like mine that works please?

Gantt chart is not showing the topmost task properly
Hi,
I have tried to create a gantt chart similar to [http://www.anychart.com/products/anygantt/gallery/sample_02.html]
, except the connectors are not necessary. I could do this by dropping some parts out from the custom XML, but the parent tasks are always displayed with the same style as the child tasks. I want to make the parent periods display so that they are different from the child periods like in the chart example, where they are gray and thinner. How is that possible ?
TiinaHi Tiina,
Firstly, just to explain the current behaviour, the timeline bars in Gantt charts generated in APEX have a default style called defaultStyle applied to them. This style controls the appearance of the various components of the timeline region, such as the actual bar colour, the progress bar colour, etc. The default style needs to be applied to the <task> tags within the chart XML i.e. the tags containing the data for your Gantt chart. In order to allow our users to control the appearance of the timeline items via attributes on the Chart Attributes page, we update the default Style with values selected on the Chart Attributes page and then we reference that style in the <task> tag, as follows:
<project_chart>
<tasks>
<task id="7782" parent="" name="Charts Integration" actual_start="2009.03.21 12.03.00" actual_end="2009.09.21 12.09.00" baseline_start="2009.03.18 12.03.00" baseline_end="2009.09.26 12.09.00" progress="60" style="defaultStyle"/>
</tasks>
</project_chart>....where style="defaultStyle" is the reference to the style. If you look in the XML you'll see where the default Style has been defined. The <tasks> tags are generated at runtime, and populated with the resultset for the chart series query. If we didn't apply a default style to these tags, then users would be required to manually generate the <tasks> tags themselves in order to apply a style to their Gantt chart data.
In AnyChart, no style has been applied to the example you selected - http://www.anychart.com/products/anygantt/gallery/sample_02.html - only default AnyChart settings are being used here. Due to the existence of style="defaultStyle" in your Gantt data, you'll have to make the necessary changes within the </styles> tags of your XML. These changes can be made via the options exposed on the Chart Attributes page or by customizing the XML. I know this isn't exactly the same as the AnyChart example, but you can achieve something similar by just updating the Chart Attribute settings, as done on this example: http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=36648:50. I hope this helps.

Good morning,
I have produced a complex project plan for my MD using the Tasks/Gantt Chart feature.
Whilst the MD has been provided with the URL to the Gantt chart, his preference is to have a printed copy.
However, after viewing the ribbon and browsing relative threads on this site, there does not appear to be a basic print function for 2010 Gantt charts?
Is this correct? If so, is there anything I can do (code etc.) to provide a print feature?
If coding is the only option, perhaps someone would be kind enough to share the specific code.
Kind regards,
David
Senninha010Hi David,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to print the Gantt Charts of task list in the SharePoint 2010.
For a workaround, you can use a screen capture program (such as TechSmiths SnagIt) to take screen shots of the window in different places and then stitch them together to print out.

Turning Off Gantt Charts in MS Project For PDF Gen
hi
we have run into a problem when printing Gantt charts with PDF Gen. They can be extremely slow and on following up with Support they have confirmed that this is an issue with Distiller and there is no fix soon. So to get around the issue we tried disabling Gannt charts in MS Project by un-checking Bars and shapes in Gantt views in 3-D' (Tools > Options, View tab) in MS Project
Now we're finding LC does not always pick up the setting. What we have noticed is that sometimes when printing to PDF with the same file, on the same server via PDF Gen, Gantt charts will appear, and sometimes not. Occasionally, the MS Project file when printing Gantt charts will stall in the Adobe Printer Queue, LC will then start to get Stuck Threads in Weblogic, and basically become unstable.
Upon further investigation we saw that LC will use the WINPROJ.exe if it is running to do the conversion, or start a new WINPROJ.exe process if none is running. Sometimes while starting the process we get the Gantt chart setting picked up, and sometimes not, and there is no particular pattern.
We did a lot of digging with PROCMON to see if we could find if LC was picking up a Windows Registry entry for MS Project perhaps with a different user which did not have the Gannt chart turned off, but could not find one. Our conclusion was that sometimes LC has submitted the job before WINPROJ.exe is fully loaded and somehow the No Gantt charts option gets lost, though this is speculation based on observation of behaviour.
Anyone know what is going on?Hi,
We will get this issue reproduced in-house and see if we can provide a patch to address this problem. Prima facie this does not appear to be a bug in the product; rather it appears that MS Project might be "forgetting" this setting in some cases, or a similar setting (inside the file that is being converted) might override the application-wide setting.
We will try to see if we can forcibly set this flag (through MS Project COM APIs) each time a MS Project file gets converted. If this works, we might be able to provide a patch.
Meanwhile, can you let me know exactly what version of MS Office (with the service pack details, if any) that you are using?

Gantt Chart View for Multiple Projects
Hello all;
Is there any way to see a complete Gannt view which refers to multiple project. means I' d like to select more than 2 project at the same time and look those Gantt view in order to realize what is going on for all projects.. ?Good one Ahmed
Thanks
In my opinion however - if you were managing more than one project than Gantt Chart is not the relevant tool for monitoting - you need a dash board - Gantt chart really is useful for getting details of a project. If you see Gantt chart for more than one project then you will need a wall size screen
