Tips! How to bypass new crop tool CS6, photoshop

Do you dislike the new crop function in Photoshop CS6?
I found out a way to handle and bypass the function so it works like in earlier versions.
1. First step is to change to classic mode (this is done in settings above the image a little "gear")
2. The second step is to change ratio to unconstrained.
The third step is the tip!
I was very frustrated that I could not start outside the picture to begin my cropping.
You know when you want to crop a landscape image of a portrait image and want to go from side to side.
The problem was that I started to rotate a crop frame that was there by default... REALLY CRAPPY FEATURE!
3. So here is the tip
Place your cursor is outside the picture
Before you begin dragging, hold down shift.
Begin the dragging, then let go of shift, and "tada" the crop frame behaves as it should.
I hope you found this info useful

I don't see why your method is better than just using the new perspective crop tool (it allows you to start outside the image, use a specific size, and rotate the crop (by dragging from near/outside of a corner).
In a lot of cases want to go from left to right edge of the image.
From Original ratio:
To do it the "new" way means two step
Move down the upper edge, move up the lower edge.
From unconstraind:
To do it the "new" way means two step
Almost drag the area I want, move the edges out to left and right.
With my method I can easily drag the area I want in one movement.
at least a couple of problems with that: You still can't distort the crop lines (grab a corner and move it independent of the other corners) to fix perspective and such; and you aren't cropping to a particular size (which means you have to do it as a separate step after cropping).
I am sorry I could not find a way to do that easy...
And I agree to the common opinion, why limit something that works well, without having the option via settings to get it back.

Adobe, your new and "improved" Crop tool is trash! It is unintuitive, slow and hinders production speed. Your Classical mode is NOT classical mode! What were you thinking? That by slowing down one of the most core functionalities of Photoshop you're somehow improving it? Your new Crop tool sucks! AT LEAST make the Classic tool REAL classic tool! Ideally, roll back the old Crop, it worked PERFECTLY and needed no improvement!

  • Using the new Crop tool | Learn Photoshop CS6 | Adobe TV

Cropping is one of the most common operations in Photoshop. So it's only fitting that the Crop tool has experienced a quantum leap in CS6. In this movie, watch how to preview the angle of your image to confirm that your crop is plumb. You can revisit a crop any time you like, so you never waste effort. And by default, the Crop tool hides pixels instead of permanently deleting them.

I just installed the new PhotoShop CS6 on my iMac - I am used to it on Windows PC.  Now, when I crop, it does not resize the image to my 640x320 px (it keeps the original size)

  • What is wrong with the crop tool in Photoshop CS6? (picture included)

Ever since I upgraded to Photoshop CS6 and started to use the new crop tool, I get this quite interesting visual error and some artifacting.
I didn't have the problem with the crop tool in the previous versions of Photoshop.
    What can be the issue?

Seems like a GPU problem. Can you try going into Photoshop Preferences, disable GPU acceleration and try if that fixes it?

There are several advantages to the newly redesigned Crop tool in Photoshop CS6. In this video tutorial, Julieanne demonstrates the refined interface, new features, customizable presets, enhanced tools and essential shortcuts that will make cropping easier than ever.

In CS6 if you simply switch to the crop tool after making the selection the crop area is automatically set to the selected area and if you don't want to change anything click on the ok check mark and you are done.  Is that what you want to do?

  • Where do I activate the new crop tool also in ACR?

Is it possible to get the same cropping tool in ACR, which already exists in LR4 and PS CS6?
When Photoshop CS6 was released the crop tool within Photoshop itself was updated with a new interface, similar to that in Lightroom. Why did Adobe not also update the crop tool in ACR, Adobe Camera Raw? As it is an essential part of Photoshop CS6?
Basically, why does ACR 7 still have the old crop tool interface, while the Lightroom and Photoshop products both are having the new crop tool interface?
Or have I missed a setting somewhere to turn on the new cropping tool in ACR as well?
    Thanks in advance!

No, not possible at this time.
I believe you're not the first to request it as a feature from Adobe.

  • Minor Frustration with new crop tool movement

    Crop Tool
Currently the new crop tool method feels very unnatural to me in movement. Is there any way we could get an option to maybe invert the x and y movement. Preferably one option for the x and a seperate for the y. I kind of like the way it works but in it's current form I am likely to just revert it to the old style.

Stay with it, and I think you'll prefer the way it works now.  I grumbled about it on day one, but feel distictly embarrassed about doing so now, because it is way better now.  Check out this video, and see if that changes your mind

  • The crop tool causes Photoshop CC to hang up. I have to use CS6.

I cannot use the crop tool in Photoshop CC.

I just cropped my profile photo and the crop tool is now working normally.

  • Why when using the crop tool in Photoshop CS6 does it suddenly change the layer and file format?

I really need help with this. If I open a jpg in PS6 and crop it, the file transforms from a locked background layer to Layer 0 which is not locked. Then if I want to Save as a jpg I must flatten the layers as it is now a PSD file. SO frustrated! Anyone know what's going on?

Enable the Delete Cropped Pixels in the crop tool options up top—this is the phrasing in my PS-CC.  I assume PS-CS6 has a similar crop tool option.
If you don’t delete the cropped pixels, they are just hidden, then a layer needs to be created to hold the hidden pixels.

  • New crop tool in CS 6 not an improvement

I'd like to add my comments to the unpopularity of the new improved crop tool in CS 6. It seems it is no longer possible to set a custom aspect ratio of less than an inch. If I want to crop the spine of a book out of a 2D layout for use in an action to make a 3D image, I have to do it freehand. If the spine is less than an inch wide and I try to set the width of the crop to that amount I get an error message saying "A value between 1.000 and 300000.00 is required." I admit the 30000 inches is very generous, but why limit the minimum to 1 inch? Unless I'm missing something. They say the new Photoshop crop tool now funtions like Lightroom. I would prefer it funtion like Photoshop.

Of course!  Every poster has a right to limit the number of potential replies as he or she sees fit.
I'm just saying, some of us may not be able to contribute a helpful reply in those cases.

Plea for Light UI to be used when posting Screen Shots
    Apr 25, 2012 1:54 PM
I would like to put in a request:
I find it almost impossible to read the settings which were used when people post either Screen Shots or Demo Movies which were made with the dark UI
It would be great if people could switch to a Light mode before making explanatory Screen Shots (Cmd/Ctrl + F2 cycles through the GUI modes instantly and painlessly!)
And, if you are planning on publishing a book, do realise that once these dark screen shots have been rasterized, downsized and reproduced in Print, they become totally illegible!!!

  • Cropping Layers with Crop Tool in Photoshop CC 2014?

I have been trying to find out if the crop tool can be used in Photoshop CC 2014 to crop layers individually rather than the entire file, and I am not finding any answers through any searches. I can't even find a standard Abode How-to for cropping in the CC version. Is the Marquee tool still the only (best) way to crop an individual layer?
Also, I have been looking at a crop tool tutorial for the CC version that seems a bit opaque to me in the way it's written (Adobe Photoshop CC for Photographers), and it refers to a Crop options fly-out menu, but I can't find any way to access this.

The Crop tool is not designed for the job you would like done. As you have seen, it crops the entire image.
Instead, use the Rectangular Marquee tool to frame the area you would like to maintain. (Sample 1)
Then choose Select > Inverse. It will select the area to be removed.
Then tap the Delete key. Result is Sample 2)
