Tips on migration?

We had some 10.5 mail problems where it stopped working and seems some files are corrupted. So here we are with a snow leopard install disk. I plan to start mail from scratch.
Are there any tips for migrating ical and collaboration services? I assume web is just a matter of moving the web folder.
And any issues to import the WGM user list?

Good luck with that (as I mumble Kerio under my breath)

In theory, you should be able to simply move the files into place. Watch you permissions so use sudo ditto to ensure you maintain uid and gid. You should watch for user IDs as well so everything matches up. Oh, and hostname probably should match for good measure.
As for web, remember, PHP is still not enabled by default so remember to enable it in the modules tab. WebObjects is no longer their but easily restored and setup. And also, I guess Apple is trying to overcome the performance issues of Leopard, but in my opinion, they set the min spare and max spare values way too high. You can easily cut them in a quarter and get good performance.
And any issues to import the WGM user list?
I've seen none. But, remember, if you are doing an export to standard record format from WGM, you will not get passwords. The only way to do that is to archive the ODM and then restore it on the new. For some reason, that give me chills. I would rather force a password reset on first login.
Hope that helps.

  • Tips for migrating to SAP CRM (especially relationships)

    Hi Guru's
We have created an Idoc interface via the Legacy System Migration Workbench (LSMW) over here for the migration of Business Partners, Business Partner Relationships, Opportunities, Activities and Quotations. We need to migrate data for 12 countries. The first country has about 30.000 Business partners in scope and about 6.000 Opportunities.
Because each country has bought or developed it's own CRM system in the past it is not completely clear yet in which way the data has been arranged in these systems. Migrating the u2018flat & staticu2019 data like names, addresses, phone numbers and so on wonu2019t be that complicated but what about the relationships between mutual Business Partners and the relations between Business Partners and Opportunities for exampleu2026
What if these relationships havenu2019t been maintained in the legacy systems for example? How can we best approach this relationship matter?
    Tips & Tricks are welcome!
    Thanks and Regards.

if the data is not maintained in the legacy system, then you have two options
    - make up the data - if your business requires, then somehow somewhere you need data source
    - leave it as it is - fortunately relationship is not mandatory in CRM
    hope it helps

  • Migration Tips

    Hi everyone,
Does anyone have any tips on migrating Sun Java System Identity Manager files etc? I am trying to define a migration process, detailing what files etc need to be migrated, and any other things that need to be considered in migration, in a step-by-step process. If anyone has any tips from previous experience, I would be interested in knowing.
    Thanks

two things that immediately come to my mind are
    1) use lh command to export all your objects in to xml and use this to import.
    2) make sure to take back up of all your jsp pages...if you upgrade the changes done to jsps will be lost.
    hope this helps

  • Possible permissions issue - i used migration assistant from a backup and now i have multiple issues

    Hi everyone,
I'd say my techie skills are low to medium so bare that in mind and be gentle with me
So 20" dual core died on Friday. poss psu issue which i will fix in due course. In a fit of extravagance I decided this message from beyond the grave from MR JObs was telling me to buy a new quad core on Saturday morning.
Because old imac was dead i used time machine back up via "migration assistant"
intially it could see the back ups but then seemed to spring to life after 20 mins
Got message saying not all content had transferred but reckon most did except for some safari stuff ( paswords etc).
Then i started to get issues with permissions i think.... asked me for passwords every time i tried to move files between folders or to trash or do pretty much anything.
read something about permissions conflicts when migrating from another admin/home account from and old imac
That when i started to activate my over "confident with technolgy" gene - i set HD permission to owned by "me" instead of system and then applied to all enclosed items
    oops
now getting lots of dodgy messages eg every driver on the make brings up eeor message sayuing it was incorrectly installed
ran permissions repair - 25 mins later loads of unexpected acls have been corrected though not all -
still getting error messages about a few which i tracked down manually one by one and, sure enough, are still showing as owned by "me" and not system. Corrected them
Noticed at this point all other .kext files in same loaction have two permissions rows for "system in "get info" window = is this the root of my problem since using migration assitant?
    still having issues
software updates won't install via the "software update" function but was able to install a couple of them myself direct from apple website.
back ups won;t back up to drive assigned - just keeps saying T|ime machine could not complete the back up even though there is space on freshly formatted external drive
    so guys ..
have just created an unholy mess?
should i reassign "system" as owner for everything and then change foders such as documents and music etc to be owned by "me" or is that tooo simplistic?
should i wait till my old mac is brought back to life and re-do my migration ( since deleted the existing back up from old imac so thats not an option)
should i blame it all on apple and get them to sort it out under warrenty
or should i run naked down the street shouting wibble...
all help gratefully received . MY experience of apple products has been seamless over the years until now and I can't help think I have done some thing bad the wife will never forgive me for
    HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You may not have created a mess, it's possible you simply don't know where your data is after migrating. Had you followed the Setup Assistant's on-screen prompts when you initially turned on your new system you would be running just fine by now. My guess is you haven't been exposed to Pondini's Lion Setup Assistant tips.
Migration Assistant (MA) and Setup Assistant (SA) are cousins, similar but different. The primary difference is MA creates a new user account which can be confusing to some users. If you successfuly migrated then log out of your existing using account and you should see the new user account. Log into that account then you should see the migrated data. If you do then use Pondini's Transferring files from one User Account to another.
However if you have totally made of mess out of things then I'd start over, this time using the Setup Assistant Tips beginning where he discusses Second Chance.

  • Migrating from a PPC

Anyone have any tips on migrating from a PPC to a a new Intel iMac? Using migration assistant may bring over a lot of stuff which may not be compatible with the Intel Core 2.
    Ron Goren

A Basic Guide for Migrating to Intel-Macs
If you are migrating a PowerPC system (G3, G4, or G5) to an Intel-Mac be careful what you migrate. Keep in mind that some items that may get transferred will not work on Intel machines and may end up causing your computer's operating system to malfunction.
Rosetta supports "software that runs on the PowerPC G3 or G4 processor that are built for Mac OS X". This excludes the items that are not universal binaries or simply will not work in Rosetta:
Classic Environment, and subsequently any Mac OS 9 or earlier applications
    Screensavers written for the PowerPC
    System Preference add-ons
    All Unsanity Haxies
    Browser and other plug-ins
    Contextual Menu Items
Applications which specifically require the PowerPC G5
    Kernel extensions
Java applications with JNI (PowerPC) libraries
See also What Can Be Translated by Rosetta.
In addition to the above you could also have problems with migrated cache files and/or cache files containing code that is incompatible.
If you migrate a user folder that contains any of these items, you may find that your Intel-Mac is malfunctioning. It would be wise to take care when migrating your systems from a PowerPC platform to an Intel-Mac platform to assure that you do not migrate these incompatible items.
If you have problems with applications not working, then completely uninstall said application and reinstall it from scratch. Take great care with Java applications and Java-based Peer-to-Peer applications. Many Java apps will not work on Intel-Macs as they are currently compiled. As of this time Limewire, Cabos, and Acquisition are available as universal binaries. Do not install browser plug-ins such as Flash or Shockwave from downloaded installers unless they are universal binaries. The version of OS X installed on your Intel-Mac comes with special compatible versions of Flash and Shockwave plug-ins for use with your browser.
The same problem will exist for any hardware drivers such as mouse software unless the drivers have been compiled as universal binaries. For third-party mice the current choices are USB Overdrive or SteerMouse. Contact the developer or manufacturer of your third-party mouse software to find out when a universal binary version will be available.
Also be careful with some backup utilities and third-party disk repair utilities. Disk Warrior (does not work), TechTool Pro (pre-4.5.1 versions do not work), SuperDuper (newest release works), and Drive Genius (untested) may not work properly on Intel-Macs. The same caution may apply to the many "maintenance" utilities that have not yet been converted to universal binaries.
Before migrating or installing software on your Intel-Mac check MacFixit's Rosetta Compatibility Index.

  • HT4796 How to solve my situation of having several Mac users created for me as I used Migration Assistant multiple times to move files from my PC

I recently tried to migrate data from my old and perpetually unstable PC to my new iMac through the Set up Assistant.  However, half way through the 6 hour process, my PC crashed (the exact reason why I finally bought a Mac!) and the connection was lost. I continued with the Mac set up and then tried again later to migrate the files with Migration Assistant.  Since I was nervous that my PC would crash again, I decided to do the data transfer in multiple migrations (ie. first I did photos and then after seeing that that was done successfully I did music and so on).  Unexpected to me, even though all of the 4 migrations were successful I now have 4 additional users (in addition to the one I set up durnig the initial process) because each migration created a new user.  Each user has  little bits of my data.
What is the easiest way to merge these users or at least the data that resides in each one?  I really only want one user.  thank you.

You may not have created a mess, it's possible you simply don't know where your data is after migrating. • Where can I find information on migrating from Business Objects 5 to XI R2?

We want to migrate several Business Objects implementations - some of which are Business Objects 5 and some Business Objects 6 to consolidate them into a XI R2 environment.
I have the document that describes migration from 6.x to XI R2 but what is the process for migrating from Business Objects 5. Do I need to migrate from 5 to 6 and then follow the 6.x to XI R2 migration?
Any pointers to additional hints and tips on migration or how to estimate how much effort is involved would also be welcome.
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi,
Following are the detailed steps for migration via Import Wizard:
1] Go to Start > Programs > Business Objects XI Release 2 > BusinessObjects Enterprise > Import Wizard.
2] The Welcome dialog box appears. Click Next.
    Setting source and destination environments:
3] In the Specify source environment dialog box, set the following:
u2022 Source: Business Objects Enterprise BO 6.5.x.
    u2022User Name:
    u2022 Password: visor
    BOMain key
Note: Do not check the Import Application Foundation contents option since you are not performing Performance Management migration at this time.
    Click Next.
4] The Warning page appears. Click Next.
Note: The source repository can store any file, not just supported agnostic documents. Since the BusinessObjects XI Release 2 architecture requires a plug-in for each file extension, it does not import unsupported files (for example, .zip files and as .svg documents used in corporate dashboards).
5] The Specify destination environment page appears. Set the:
u2022 Destination: Business Objects Enterprise BOXI R2
    u2022 User Name:
    u2022 Password:
u2022 Domain key file to: Default drive: \Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise XI R2
    Click Next.
6] Select the types of objects you want to import in this stage of the importing process. At a later stage, you select the objects themselves.
    u2022 Select the option u2018Import universes u2018.
    Click Next.
7] Import options for universes and connections dialog box appears.
Select the third option: Import all the universes and connections that the selected Web Intelligence and Desktop Intelligence documents use directly.
8] The Please choose a merge scenario dialog box appears. Select I want to merge the source system to destination system and check the automatically rename top-level folders that match top-level folder on the destination system option.
    Click Next.
9] The Incremental Import dialog box appears.
You may need to import some objects more than once from the source repository to the destination repository.
In this situation, you have the following update options:
    u2022 Overwrite object contents
You select the types of objects for which the content overwrite applies:
u2022 Documents (including dashboards and analytics)
    u2022 Universes
    u2022 Connections
When you re-import an object, it will completely overwrite and replace the matching object (and its associated files) that you imported earlier.
    u2022 Overwrite object rights
When you re-import an object, its associated security rights will overwrite the rights of the matching object you imported earlier.
If you decided not to import security in the Security Migration Options dialog box, then the Overwrite object rights option is not relevant, and is therefore not available.
If you don't select any overwrite options, the matching object in the destination repository will not change when you try to import it again.
Note: This dialog box appears only if you select update as the import scenario.
    Click Next.
    10] Select the specific universe
    Click Next
11] Information Collection complete dialog box appears.
    Click Finish
12] Import Progress dialog box appears.
    Click Done
    Hope this helps !!
Please revert in case of any queries.

  • Migration Assistant time out?

I have not been able to migrate from a Powerbook to my MBA. I have read the various threads here and used their suggestions to no avail. Here's what I've done to prepare: loaded the new Migration Assistant program that came on the CD onto the Powerbook, turned off the firewall on both machines, enabled file sharing, purchased the USB ethernet adapter, plugged both machines into a router.
    Here's what happens:
I run Migration Assistant on both machines, using the proper "to" and "from" settings.
The Powerbook says it sees the MBA.
I enter the passcode on the Powerbook that the MBA produces.
The MBA Migration Assistant says it is "preparing information."
For some reason, the Powerbook Migration Assistant now says "searching for other computers." (There are no other machines on the network.)
This goes on for about 5 minutes, then the MBA says "network connection failed."
I know that the machines are connected and seeing each other (I can mount each other in the Finder), but for some reason Migration Assistant can't proceed, and I suspect a time out is really causing the "connection failed" notice.
I also tried this wirelessly, with the same results. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Well, it looks like I can answer my own question. There seems to be a particular problem in migrating from a MacBook G4 running Tiger to an MBA (on Leopard, of course). I went to the Genius Bar at the 5th Avenue store here in NYC. The Genius went though the regular migration procedure, and ended up with the same situation as reported above. He tried several different things, including trying to pass the migration through a portable hard drive. (MBA-ethernet cable-hard drive-ethernet cable-MacBook). He talked to other Geniuses. All to no avail. He put the problem into the official Genius database that goes to Apple engineers. He suggested that I upgrade the MacBook to Leopard and see if that made a difference. He acknowledged that Apple says it can migrate from Tiger, but he thought it might work. As it happened, I had an unopened copy of Leopard at home, because I hadn't had the time to upgrade. So I upgraded, then did the 10.5.2 combo update on both machines. I crossed my fingers, plugged in the ethernet cables, and presto, the migration started happening.
Some tips on migrating: before starting, use Energy Saver to set both machines to sleep never. Just for good measure, set the Display to sleep never, and I suggest even setting a Disable Screen Saver corner in Desktop & Screen Saver and move your cursor there after the migration starts. (Not doing this meant my first migration attempt was calculated to take 19 hours, and I would have to babysit the trackpad all that time to avoid either machine sleeping. After force quitting Migration Assistant and resetting those controls, it zipped through in less than 3 hours.)
I hope this can help the other people having the same problem. Bummer if you have to buy Leopard, though...

  • Exchanging MBP Laptops... Migration Assistant Question.

    Hello Everybody,
I recently purchased a new MBP 13" i5 with the stock hard drive. I tried upgrading the hard drive to a larger size but had issues with clicking sounds and excessive Load Cycle Counts. Since it is a new computer Apple recommended that I return this MBP and special order a new one with a larger hard drive (I'll use the extra drive as a backup). So that's what I did. The replacement computer will get to me this Friday and I will have a chance to migrate before returning the original MBP.
    Here is my question:
Could I clone my current drive to the new drive and just put that into the computer (since all of the hardware will be identical)?
Or could I just run the migration assistant (using a CAT6 ethernet cable) the first time I start the new MBP even though the OS version on the new computer will most likely be 10.6.6 and the original MBP OS is now 10.6.7?
Thanks in advance for anyone who can answer this question.

    Here is my question:
Could I clone my current drive to the new drive and just put that into the computer (since all of the hardware will be identical)?
No! Use Setup Assistant rather than Migration Assistant. Assuming the old machine has a Firewire or Firewire 800 connection use that connection rather than than a ethernet connection. Firewire tends to be more reliable than ethernet. Follow the instructions found on Pondini's Setup Assistant tips your migration should be very smooth.
Before physically connecting the machine make sure you have the correct Firewire cable. Look on the old machine (or even better refer to the manual) to see if it's FW or FW 800. You will need one of the following cables:
    Firewire 400 to 800 Cable
    Firewire 800 Cable
If you don't want to order from Amazon you can probably find similar cables at Radio Shack or your local computer store.

  • Web Service Proxy DC in NWDS 7.3

    Hello,
We are planning to upgrade our SAP NetWeaver Portal platform from 7.0 to 7.3.
Currently, we have created following type of DCs in SAP NWDS 7.0: -
               1. Portal Application Standalone (packed in SDA) : ( mainly JSPDynpage & custom UWL connectors)
               2. Web Service Deployable Proxy DC  : (to be used in JSPDynpage to call web service)
Can anyone please suggest what type of DCs we need to create in NWDS 7.3 and some tips while migrating the code?
    Please help.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Amey Mogare

Thank you very much Amey for the answer! I'm gonna try your approach and will get back to you if I have any confusion!
May I bother you with another question?
I'm facing a problem after deploying and starting EAR file (regarding to a Service) on
SAP NetWeaver Application Server Java. The error occurs when the service is started and the error  message indicates the soapconfig.xml because of a missing function (let's name it X). Just to make  sure weather the problem is caused by soapconfig.xml file or not, I did a test! The point is that when  I remove the folder containing soapconfig.xml and create EAR file, after deploying it, the same error  is issued meanwhile there is no soapconfig.xml file deployed!!
I would like to know what's your idea about this problem! Is there any configuration section in Sap  NWDS Application server Java in which we can change the path regarding to soapconfig.xml or any  other file??
Many thanks for your help in advance!

  • IPad syncing issue between old and new computer.

I 'm trying to sync my iPad to a new computer, but it says my iPad is already synced to another library.  My previous computer and data is no longer accessible.  I do NOT want to lose what I have on my iPad, its a real pain and its happened before: the message says I would have to ERASE! everything to sync it.  This really makes me hate iTunes.  Thoughts?  Help?

iPhones are not really designed to be synced, or even manually managed, with multiple computers. You should sync with a single library. Depending what you've done so far you may in fact have the same library on both computers, but if not see this tip on migrating your library.
Even when you have exactly the same iTunes library on two computers iTunes "knows" to sync the pictures from just one of them, though in my experience they have stayed on the device when syncing with the other machine. If you copy the pictures over to the new computer, then select the folder to sync photos from on the new computer they should all get added in.

I have recently had two of my macs stolen an old G5 Power mac and a new iMac 27" I used to use the G5 as a go-between to transfer files from my Power Mac 9500/200 to my network because the PM 9500/200 could not see the iMacs and vice versa.
