Tips to maintain my iPod Touch 5g's great performance?

I just got it yesterday (32gb model) and so far I am blown away. Overall almost everything has been drastically improved, with one of those things being battery & performance.
However, being an owner of an iPod Touch 4g as well, I am afraid to use my iPod 5g very much because overtime on my 4g, the battery & performance went down drastically. I will now list things which I think may have caused this:
-was formerly jailbroken (2 times)
-I have a lot of apps (over 64 apps; hey, it WAS a 32gb iPod 4g)
-I have no clue how I am suppose to correctly charge it; sometimes I'd overcharge it, other times I'd charge it at 50% most of the time)
-I always use my iPod(s) A LOT. I'd use it everyday for things life browsing Reddit,Vesti, playing games, photo editing or using the camera.
So any tips on what I should do and not do to maintain my iPod 5's great performance & battery life?
(So far I will not jailbreak it, try to not have as many apps as before, turn location services off, turn push data for mail off, pick not to send diagnostics to Apple, try to keep brightness on a good level, put iPod on airplane mode when no need for wifi, and charge it maybe when the battery is under 20%).

Apple says to turn off Push to maximixe battery life
Turn off push mail: If you have a push mail account on iPod touch such as Yahoo! or Microsoft Exchange, turn off push mail when you don’t need it. Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar > Fetch New Data and set Push to Off. Messages sent to your push email accounts will now be received on your iPod touch based on the global Fetch setting rather than as they arrive.

  • TS1363 Help with Problem encountered with iPod Touch 5th gen After performing  Sync.

    Hello Friends.
My name is Joaquin. I was wondering if anyone can help with a problem I have encountered with my iPod Touch 5th generation running under OS 7.0.4.
After performing a Sync, a lot of the song in my iPod showed a red icon beside the song. It is the same Circle with a square in the center icon that shows the download progress status that you see when updateing APPs, etc.
The songs play perfectly in my computer library and in an old iPod Classic but not in the iPod Touch. The only difference was that when I connected the iPod I got a message stating something like "Transfer purchases from iPod touch to computer" despite of the fact that I did not make purchases from my IPod.
I will really appreciate the help. I can´t survive without my music. Thank you in advance.
    Regards,

Does the iOS device connect to other networks? If yes that tends to indicate a problem with your network. Yes

Try the following to rule out a software problem:  (Not clear what you did)
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem. Since it connects to other networks that indicates a problem with your network

  • Since Apple (bafflingly) discontinued the iPod Classic, does anyone know if Apple plans to release an iPod Touch with a greater storage capacity than 64GB?

I've had my trusty Classic for nearly five years, and have taken excellent care of it. However, it is starting to show its age. Album art has begun to disappear. Some songs have mysteriously not played at all, until I exit, go to the main menu, and come back to it. I would have long ago upgraded to an iPod Touch, but the amount of music and videos I have would be too much for even TWO 64 GB iPods. The only time I listen to the iPod is when I'm driving, and since I drive for a living, I like to have my entire music collection with me at all times.
Since the 64GB Touch model has come down in price, now would seem to be a good time to introduce a newer model with a greater storage capacity. I'm sure quite a few consumers would be willing to pay the extra price such a model would demand. Aside from the higher cost, I see no reason why this can't be done.

    No one knows but Apple.

  • IPod touch 4G experiencing slow performance after iOS 5.0.1 update.

When iOS 5 was on this iPod, the performance was fairly slower than I expected. Now, since I have updated to 5.0.1 the performance has gotten noticeably worse. Apps crash a lot, especially Safari, opening things like apps, typing in the keyboard and opening the notification centre can be quite unresponsive and sluggish sometimes, and I have also noticed in the Diagnostics an Usage list I get lots of low memory errors, and I think one of these pops up every time an app crashes. I really hope they fix this in the next iOS Update as apps randomly crashing gets quite annoying.

Did you already try to reset the iPod by holding the sleep and home button until the Apple logo comes back again? If this does not help, set it up as new device without using the latest backup.

I have 2 folders of photo/image content that I want to snyc to my ipod touch, one is a folder with my photograps, the other folder has photos of my artwork, but itunes will only sync one folder or the other, but not both. how do I get itunes to snyc both of my folders with their content?

If you want images to appear in separate photo albums on your device, create folders inside the main folder and drag images into the new folders.

  • Upgrade for 7.7.1.11 caused iPod Touch to hang in recovery mode.

Can anyone offer any tips on recoverying my iPod Touch from this issue?
I have searched and found the articles on "holding the power and home buttons at the same time, then using iTunes restore", but iTunes WILL NOT RESTORE the iTouch! If fails with this error: The iPod "iPod" can not be restored. An unknown error occurred (6)."
I cannot get windows to recognize the connection either.
That will learn me...never trust update buttons, without checking for problem issues first!
Please some iPod Touch/iTunes guru reply.
    Thanks,

I found the answer on an older post that was posted on the iTouch group.
Use another computer with iTunes to recover/restore the iTouch from recovery mode.
I guess being a newbie put me at a disadvantage.
Thanks for the answer and opportunity to post.

  • Ipod touch has lost LOADS of my videos when connected to my MacBook Pro

Ok this is a weird one, and it's happened twice now.
So I use two macs, my 27" iMac at work which runs snow leopard, and my MacBook Pro laptop that is running Tiger.
Now I connect both to my brand new iPod Touch, which is great and has all my videos ond music on.
Now I uploaded a ton of films / tv etc and when I went on holiday I took my laptop with me to use and I also use to charge up my ipod.
Now when I was charging in itunes on the laptop it showed all my old videos and music for some reason, not sure why  - but when I checked the iPod it had all my new stuff on.
So I charged it, added a new album from my laptop and thought all was fine. But it wasn't.
Now I have lost ALL the new music and videos I put on there, and it's even put the old films and tv back on there....How? Why?
Now when I click on the iPod touch it tells me under setings / about that I have 31 videos on there, but it's only showing 10. So they've somehoe gone and as I have them all on my work mac and I'm on holiday I can't get them back on....GRRRRRR!
This has happened once before but I've no idea why - can anyone shed any light on this?
Thanks guys...it's so much of a pain.

    - You can only sync with one iTunes library. If you sync with a different library, the iPod will be erased and its contents replaced what is in the iTunes library of the attached computer. It appears that is what happened..
    - You can redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    - You can "sync" music and videos from different ibraries by using the manual method specified here:

  • ITunes Not Recognizing my iPod Touch after Upgrading from Tiger to Leopard

After upgrading from Tiger (10.4.x) to Leopard (10.5.0=>10.5.6), my iPod Touch is no longer recognized by iTunes 8.0.2. The iPod Touch no longer appears in iTunes' "source list" (left side pane in iTunes' GUI).
Immediately prior to that upgrade, my iPod Touch was working great with Tiger (10.4.x). iTunes 8.0.2 recognized it (listed it in sources) and always synchronized with it successfully.''
My iPod Touch is also not shown in the Finder. However, it does show up as recognized in iPhoto.
Any ideas on how to get the iPod recognized again in iTunes under Leopard?

Thanks to a posting by Jim in a different Apple Discussions (forum), my problem is now resolved. Read on for the details.
iPods & Finder. Some other postings incorrectly lead me to believe that the iPod would show up in the "Finder". Jim's posting set me straight on this.
iTunes Not Recognizing iPod Touch. Prior to Jim's posting, I had already read the article that Jim referenced (to remove and reinstall the Apple Mobile Device Service per article "http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747").
Prior to Jim's posting, I had also read other articles in various "Apple Discussions" (forums) that suggested this recognition problem could be resolved by uninstalling/re-installing iTunes 8.0.2. Some implied that you could just re-install iTunes 8.0.2 right over the currently installed one without bothering to uninstall it.
Based on those postings, I "gambled" last night and simply downloaded and re-installed iTunes 8.0.2 (without uninstalling it first). I noticed during the installation that the Apple Mobile Device agent was also re-installed. Well, my gamble paid off! After the installation (and a reboot?), iTunes onces again RECOGNIZED my iPod Touch.

  • My Ipod Touch keeps going back to main screen and won't let me play games, read my ebook, etc.

My IPOD Touch was working great until about 2 weeks ago.  Now when I try to play a game, read an ebook, etc. it automatically goes back to the screen showing all my apps and won't let me stay and use the app I have selected.  Is there anything I can do?

Try a hard reset of the iPod.  To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • What is this? (From 4th Gen iPod Touch dock connector)

I recently bought a 5th Gen iPod Touch which is great. My 4th gen broke a year ago and wouldn't charge. This morning I decided I'd see what's wrong with it. I shone my flashlight in the dock connector and I realised this thing wasn't connected to anything and was kind of just... sitting there. What is it?

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • If I download an album onto my 5th Gen iPod touch, can i download the digital booklet directly ti my iPod, or do I need to use iTunes on a computer?

I recently bought the Great Gatsby album on my iPod touch 5th generation (great album by the way, I recommend it to everyone). In iTunes, it said the album came with a digital booklet. After downloading all of the music, I opened iBooks to see if it was there. A message popped up that said 'an error occurred while trying to download Great Gatsby Digital booklet' and I tapped retry. The message popped up again and I reluctantly tapped cancel. My question is, is this error message normal, indicating that I need to use a computer to download it, or should I be able to download digital booklets directly to my iPod touch?

Have you looked at the previous discussions listed on the right side of this page under the heading "More Like This"?

  • Ical not syncing properly on iPod touch

No matter what I do I can't seem to get ical to sync properly to my ipod touch.  Works great on ipad 2.  I have completely removed calendars from ipod and verified that my MBP calendar is correct, but when I sync I get 4 or 5 copies of every event for every day.  How can I get it to sync properly?

PROBLEM SOLVED: I backed up my iCal data (from within iCal); quit; deleted all prefs, iCal cache files, and the whole Calendars folder in my Library; then relaunched iCal and Restored from my backup file. iTunes then showed the correct list of calendars when I connected my iPod touch, and I got a proper sync. Who knows, maybe this will also fix the frequent runaway crashes I've been having.

  • IPod touch 32 GB (2nd generation) bricked

I recently bought an iPod touch 32 GB (2nd generation). It was working just fine until Safari completely crashed and I had to perform a reset by holding down the Sleep/Wake and Home button (as described on the Apple Support site). After that the iPod touch just keeps hanging on Apple logo without loading the Home screen. Because of it iTunes can't connect with the iPod.
This is the second time this has happened to me, the first time it completely bricked my iPod and I had to exchange it for a new one. I'm curious to what is causing my iPod touch to stay stuck after a reset with no apparent way to bring it back to a functional order.
Any thoughts on the matter? Note that I'm using the original firmware (v2.1.1) and not some jailbreaked version.

This happened to me as well but I found out by accident that when doing a hard reset (holding sleep and home buttons together) that it took my 2G 32GB iPod touch literally 10-15 minutes to restart itself after seeming to freeze at the Apple logo. In fact, I had tried to put it into DFU mode and got the same "software not installed" error in iTunes then did the hard reset and decided to wait. Then ~ 15 minutes later the iPod Touch started up like nothing had happened and I was able to do a restore in iTunes although it probably wasn't necessary but I decided to do one anyway. My iPod Touch has worked great since then.
Needless to say, I made a suggestion to Apple through their feedback link that they need to have either a spinning circle or progress bar at that Apple logo screen so people don't think that they're bricked.
I would try plugging your iPod Touch into a wall outlet adapter (USB may work but I didn't want it connected to the computer at all) or make sure you have a full battery then do a hard reset and wait a while, at least 30 minutes to an hour to see if it restarts itself then do a restore (optional) to be on the safe side. Hopefully that will work for you like it did for me.

  • IPod Touch Experience - So Far

    Hi,
Let me make this plain before anyone accuses me of being biased, anti Apple or just plain awkard, what follows are pure observations of what's be happening with my iPod Touch and what I see people posting here.
BTW there isn't an appropriate category for this post, so it's here.
First, the iPod Touch is a great piece of technology but it's got teething troubles, as does most first version, high tech stuff. I've had mine since friday 29th September. Setup went ok but I had to do a RESTORE to correct a problem where it wasn't producing any sound when I played a music track.
I've found touch screen response to be a bit irratic. It mostly responds first time but, about 1 in 4 times it needs several tries.
General unit response is usually good but can be slow at time. Internet browsing is often quiet slow but that can be influenced by a number of factors outside the Touch.
I find that the battery runs down pretty quickly depending on what your doing at the time. Mine will use half a battery charge if I play a movie for 30-40 minutes. Perhaps that's normal?
In the last couple of days I've been getting some strange things happening. When logged into iTunes with the Touch connected my pc (Windows XP) has frozen after 10 minutes or so. It was fine up until 2 days ago. If iTunes isn't loaded Windows doesn't freeze up!
Today, it's been dropping out of WiFi a few minutes after connecting. (WiFi shows as disconnected in the iPod Touch!
A couple of hours ago I was demonstrating the Touch to a friend. We were looking at photos and I was flipping to the next photo sideways, as you can when it suddenly went wild and kept flipping the photos at speed without me touching it.
Then there's the growing list of problems being posted on this forum for everybody to see. Admittedly, many of them are going to be 'finger trouble' or 'pilot error'. I remember the early days of Windows 95!!
I've already read somewhere, maybe it was on this forum, that it's hoped that Apple won't be too long in producing the first software patch for download but I guess we've got to give them time to sift the problem reports, decide the priorities and build an appropriate upgrade patch?
    Mike.

    Hi,
My original motivation for posting this thread was to prompt feedback on what others are experiencing with their Touch. I should also say the only problem that has repeated itself and worries me are the wifi drop outs.
    qx5
    It's a week 37
    Scott
Good point about different skin elec. potential re. the screen sensitivity. It certainly doesn't worry me but is frustrating at times.
The iTunes/Windows 'lockouts'. This has only started happening in the last 2 days and is difficult to decide who to fault it to?
Battery! Not a big problem but for the fact that you've got to find a USB port to do it. Mains charger would be good.
Just a thought, what's battery life expected to be? cos when it's dead so is the Touch!!
    Andrew
The fast photo flipping has only happened once, so far and dosen't worry me, either.
I agree, the iPod Touch rocks and it can only get better if Apple listens and responds to customer feedback.
    Mike.
