Tired of restarting the Hub!

Hi All
My broadband connection is fine when I'm using the internet, but whenever I leave my computer for an hour or more, the connection drops.  I can usually re-connect using the 'Fix' tool on BT Broadband Desktop Help, but it's annoying, to say the least, to have to keep doing this.  I don't know if the problem is with the hub or the line itself.  The top 3 lights on the hub stay blue, even when I lose the connection.  I'm connected using an ethernet cable.
When I phoned the helpline I was told to reset the hub to defaults, which didn't help.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Martin

Well if the B'Band light is on on your Hub sounds as if the PC is going into some sort of power saving mode, but the Lan card isn't waking up when the PC does, so I would look at Power Saving options in Control Panel, or the Lan card settings.

LOL.. don't switch off the TC.. this is fairly typical behaviour..
Or try a different usb hub.. but you could well and truly run out of hubs before you fix the problem.
Are you running latest firmware for your TC?
What error message is coming up in the airport utility.. amber led is a fault indicator.. look up what the actual fault is and see if it is for instance overloading the usb. You are using a powered hub??
Get one bigger USB hard disk instead of 3 smaller ones.

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 only detect USB storage drives if I restart the system

Hi, I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 with an weird behaviour. I cannot connect any USB drive (not USB external hard disk neither pendrives). Windows device manager detects the device as
Mass Storage Device, but with a yellow exclamation sign. The exact error code is:
    The device cannot start.
However, if I restart the machine keeping the USB disk plugged, the hard disk (or pendrive) is correctly detected and usable.
    I've tried:
    Update mass storage driver.
    Review HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\usbstor "Start"
and is 3 (I think is right)
I've tried with different usb hard disks that are working in other PCs.
I've tried with large (>1TB) disks and small (8GB) pendrives.
I've tried all available USB ports, front and back, with same behaviour.
Always I get a yellow exclamation  (Device cannot start) and if I restart the computer the device is working perfectly.
    Can someone help me?
    Thanks in advance
Edit: Here is the log of connecting a Kingstone USB 8GB pendrive

I tried, but windows says that the best driver is alredy installed.
Now I've just tried to delete (uninstall) absolutly all devices under Universal Serial Bus Controller
(host controllers, root hubs, etc) into Device Manager, and then I've click on
Scan for hardware changes to force reinstall of all USB drivers. After that I've connected my USB external hard disk and has been correctly recognized and its working. However I don't know if when I'll restar the server and connect a new one usb device
it will continue working or not. I'll try later, because this is a production server.
I've tried for drivers into HP site to update or reinstall, but there isn't any driver for motherboard or USB controller. It's an HP ML350 G6.

  • Repositories are invalid after restarting the MDM Server in MDM 7.1

    Hi SDNers,
After I restarted the MDS server I am not able to logon to the repository. When I tried to connect to repository I am getting an error like "Repository Connect Failed and The MDM Repository is Invalid"
I tired to delete but I am not able to delete also. While deleteing it is giving an error like  "MDM Repository is in Read Only Mode".
So I am not able to Delete the repository also to create a new Repository.
    Any Help or Solution
    Thanks

    Kiran -
some of the below ways you can check
    1. Check your mds.ini settings. and do unmount nad then mount the MDM server again. Try to Monitor the Authentication for Particular repositry which you want to connect to your MDM 7.1 server
    2. after checking the note 1325833. try restart database server first then MDM server.
    3. also try to check with Appropriate repository option once.

  • Windows 8 - Windows could not cmplete the installation. To install Windows on this computer, restart the installation

Having SCCM 2012 SP1 CU3 I attempted to do a pretty simple task.
Create a capture media for Windows 8 64 Bit and capture the OS.
The system in question is a Dell Latitude 6430u and OEM Windows 8.
The system ran as expected, the capture went as expected, but when I deploy the image (Back to the same laptop mind you)
    The following occurs:
Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer, restart the installation.
    Things that I've tried:
Set the SATA to various modes as it was on RAID on as speculated in some posts
Saw a posting that suggests pressing SHIFT F-10 to get in to some prompt and run oobe; doesn't work here, I think.
Added Dell Driver Packs for the system
As for log files, I'll check C:\Windows\Panther and see what's there.
Any ideas on how to correct this? Is there a way to go in to the image itself to do so?

I went through the smsts log and found several instances where drivers were missing so I'm guessing that's why it pitched a wobbly about not being a suitable system for the Windows setup.

Which doesn't make sense since the image that I am trying to put on the system is the one I took it from. Before putting the image out I went to Dell's web site and got the Windows 8 drivers for the system and distributed them as I usually do.
I got the drivers from here -
    http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/enterprise-client/w/wiki/4372.latitude-6430u-windows-8-driver-cab.aspx
What I don't get is that I can take the Windows 8 install.wim and do an OSD task with it and there is no issue with drivers.
One other thing here is the log from the windows\panther folder:

  • Finder Crashing, Can Not Restart, The World is Blowing Up

I'm at a loss here. My computer, even after a clean install is simply not behaving well. For example:
    1. I can't restart the computer. When I choose restart, the dock and menu bar go away and then I get stuck at the desktop picture. The spinning lines just spin and spin and spin and it won't restart.
    2. I can't shut down the computer, the exact same thing happens.
    3. Every time I start up, Spotlight has to index every drive connected to my computer. Every time.
    4. Finder crashes about once a day and crashes so hard sometimes that I have to hard restart.
    5. Most applications are completely unstable and crash often.
The steps I've taken to remedy the situation:
    1. Reinstalled the full 10.5.1 updater
    2. Zapped the PRAM
    3. Booted from the Leopard disk and repaired permissions
    4. Single-user mode to run fsck
    5. Disconnected everything but my keyboard and mouse and I still couldn't restart
    6. Removed any applications that might not be playing well with Leopard (i.e. not specifically noted that it works with Leopard)
I'm using the in-the-box keyboard and mouse for my iMac. I've never added any after-market things to my iMac like a new hard drive or RAM. Everything in the machine is the stuff that came with the machine. I do have a 500GB FW400 and a 2TB FW800 hooked up. I also have an HP printer, Sony Cyber-shot, iPhone dock, and USB hub connected to my iMac.
Are there any tests I can run that might help me identify the problem? I'm not looking forward to lugging this to an Apple Store only to have it taken away for a couple of weeks while they try and figure out what's wrong.

    Hi
You could try reinstalling a clean OS and not preserve network users and settings. Repair the disk beforehand. If your mac is stable the whole time the installer is doing this odds are its not your mac that is the problem.
However assuming you may have a hardware fault
Switch your mac off and turn it up on its end, use a cross-head screwdriver to remove the one retaining screw that allows you access to the RAM slots, touch something metallic to ground yourself and remove both sticks of RAM. Now place the mac right way up insert the power cord and depress the power on button. You should see the boot light flash regularly as well as hearing a single monotone beep. Depress the power on button again to power off the mac, remove the power cord, turn the mac over and re-insert one of the RAM modules in the rightmost slot. Make sure it is seated correctly and in place. Be firm when installing RAM but don't be too rough. Turn the mac rightway round again, insert the power cable and see if it boots normally. If still no joy repeat the instructions until you have tried both RAM modules singularly in each RAM slot. If at the end of all this your mac is still playing up, take it to your nearest Apple Authorized Repair Specialist.
    Hope this helps, Tony

  • How do you remove Facebook from the Hub?

I don't use Facebook, so have deleted the app.  In the Hub settings, you have the option of turning off unwanted apps, so I have switched off Facebook.
However, when I look at my Hub screen, Facebook is still there - and it's pushing a useful notification (Voicemail) off the bottom off the screen.
How come it is still there even though the app has been deleted and I have switched it off in the Hub settings? Is there anything else I can do to remove it?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

To delete an account from your hub, you will need to delete it from your Accounts. From home page, go into settings, select accounts, click facebook account and click on delete. You can refresh your hub from five quick swipes from the top right hand corner of the hub diagonally down or just restart your z10 to rebuild the hub.

  • Hi, I downloaded Yosemite this evening. I downloaded o.k., it installed o.k. and then it restarted the Macbook and now it seems frozen. There is nothing but a grey screen, the apple logo and a bar that is half black

Hi, I downloaded Yosemite this evening. It downloaded fine, it installed fine and then it restarted the Macbook. Now it seems to be frozen. I have nothing but a grey screen with the apple logo and a bar that is half black and half grey. It's been like this for over an hour. Should I worry or is it still working at something? How do I fix this if it's not still working at installing something. Thank goodness for this poor old pc as backup.

Take each of these steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved.
To restart an unresponsive computer, press and hold the power button for a few seconds until the power shuts off, then release, wait a few more seconds, and press it again briefly.
    Step 1
The first step in dealing with a startup failure is to secure the data. If you want to preserve the contents of the startup drive, and you don't already have at least one current backup, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data that has changed since the last backup, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to start. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
    a. Start up from the Recovery partition, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) When the OS X Utilities screen appears, launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.” The article refers to starting up from a DVD, but the procedure in Recovery mode is the same. You don't need a DVD if you're running OS X 10.7 or later.
    b. If Step 1a fails because of disk errors, and no other Mac is available, then you may be able to salvage some of your files by copying them in the Finder. If you already have an external drive with OS X installed, start up from it. Otherwise, if you have Internet access, follow the instructions on this page to prepare the external drive and install OS X on it. You'll use the Recovery installer, rather than downloading it from the App Store.
    c. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, start the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    d. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
    Step 2
If the startup process stops at a blank gray screen with no Apple logo or spinning "daisy wheel," then the startup volume may be full. If you had previously seen warnings of low disk space, this is almost certainly the case. You might be able to start up in safe mode even though you can't start up normally. Otherwise, start up from an external drive, or else use the technique in Step 1b, 1c, or 1d to mount the internal drive and delete some files. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation.
    Step 3
Sometimes a startup failure can be resolved by resetting the NVRAM.
    Step 4
If a desktop Mac hangs at a plain gray screen with a movable cursor, the keyboard may not be recognized. Press and hold the button on the side of an Apple wireless keyboard to make it discoverable. If need be, replace or recharge the batteries. If you're using a USB keyboard connected to a hub, connect it to a built-in port.
    Step 5
If there's a built-in optical drive, a disc may be stuck in it. Follow these instructions to eject it.
    Step 6
Press and hold the power button until the power shuts off. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to start up, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Use a different keyboard and/or mouse, if those devices are wired. If you can start up now, one of the devices you disconnected, or a combination of them, is causing the problem. Finding out which one is a process of elimination.
    Step 7
If you've started from an external storage device, make sure that the internal startup volume is selected in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.
Start up in safe mode. Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know the login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
When you start up in safe mode, it's normal to see a dark gray progress bar on a light gray background. If the progress bar gets stuck for more than a few minutes, or if the system shuts down automatically while the progress bar is displayed, the startup volume is corrupt and the drive is probably malfunctioning. In that case, go to Step 11. If you ever have another problem with the drive, replace it immediately.
If you can start and log in in safe mode, empty the Trash, and then open the Finder Info window on the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) Check that you have at least 9 GB of available space, as shown in the window. If you don't, copy as many files as necessary to another volume (not another folder on the same volume) and delete the originals. Deletion isn't complete until you empty the Trash again. Do this until the available space is more than 9 GB. Then restart as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)
If the startup process hangs again, the problem is likely caused by a third-party system modification that you installed. Post for further instructions.
    Step 8
Launch Disk Utility in Recovery mode (see Step 1.) Select the startup volume, then run Repair Disk. If any problems are found, repeat until clear. If Disk Utility reports that the volume can't be repaired, the drive has malfunctioned and should be replaced. You might choose to tolerate one such malfunction in the life of the drive. In that case, erase the volume and restore from a backup. If the same thing ever happens again, replace the drive immediately.
This is one of the rare situations in which you should also run Repair Permissions, ignoring the false warnings it may produce. Look for the line "Permissions repair complete" at the end of the output. Then restart as usual.
    Step 9
If the startup device is an aftermarket SSD, it may need a firmware update and/or a forced "garbage collection." Instructions for doing this with a Crucial-branded SSD were posted here. Some of those instructions may apply to other brands of SSD, but you should check with the vendor's tech support.
    Step 10
Reinstall the OS. If the Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
    Step 11
Do as in Step 9, but this time erase the startup volume in Disk Utility before installing. The system should automatically restart into the Setup Assistant. Follow the prompts to transfer the data from a Time Machine or other backup.
    Step 12
This step applies only to models that have a logic-board ("PRAM") battery: all Mac Pro's and some others (not current models.) Both desktop and portable Macs used to have such a battery. The logic-board battery, if there is one, is separate from the main battery of a portable. A dead logic-board battery can cause a startup failure. Typically the failure will be preceded by loss of the settings for the startup disk and system clock. See the user manual for replacement instructions. You may have to take the machine to a service provider to have the battery replaced.
    Step 13
If you get this far, you're probably dealing with a hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.

  • I'm getting very tired of getting the -50 Network error

    Hello All:
Don't know if I'm the only one having problems when downloading movies but I'm getting so tired of getting the -50 Network error.  I have done everything to stop it.
First off I have a 30M/5M Cable connection so that should not be the problem and it's working just fine.
I have shut off my Windows 8 Security Essentials multiple times.
I have deleted the download files and restarted the downloads....
I'm at a loss as to where to go from here and any ideas/support would be extremely helpful.
    God Bless you,
    Dave Yaeck

A follow up to this... It's only on movies because I just updated 7 apps and they downloaded very quickly and just fine.
Cmon all I'm at the end of my rope and about to just scrap all my apple products because of this.

  • Can I connect my new AirPort Extreme to a PC as the hub instead of a MAC?

    Hi,
I bought a new 27" iMac today and an AirPort Extreme.  However, my husband and I want to connect the AirPort Extreme to our cable modem and our PC laptop as the "hub," and then wirelessly link my iMac, my iPhone, my iPad, and our Apple TV to it.  This is because of where our cable jack is located.
Is this possible?  It seems not to be working when hooked to the PC??
    Cab nan anyone help me?

Basically it is going to not be possible..
If you want to run the Airport Extreme a long distance from the cable modem.. then either buy an express and plug that in to the cable modem and wireless extend that to the TC..
Or buy a set of EOP adapters and use that in place of ethernet.. which is the one and only "RIGHT" way to do it.
