TITLE 3D BORIS - Final Cut Express 3.5

Hi!
I have a problem, I started a new project, I worked it..... and now I'm looking for the Title 3D in the pop up menu in the viewer and it's desappeared!
Fortunately I could copy one title from an old project into this one and change it......
Is there anyone can help me to find it again? what's happened to my Boris Title 3D?
thanks
Linda

Hi Linda,
I was reading your post again and I saw:
Fortunately I could copy one title from an old project into this one and change it......
You mean that you could copy a Boris title from an old project and EDIT it, in the same FCE installation where you cannot find Title3D ?
That is weird... you shouldn't be able to edit a title created with Boris plugins, if the Boris plugins are not properly installed. Unless by "change it" you mean applying different filters or basic motion controls to a "burned" title.
I might be wrong, but from this thread it seems to me that your plugins are in fact installed. For some reason you cannot find the handle to create a new title...
Just a thought.

  • Boris Calligraphy, Title 3D, and Final Cut Express HD 3.5

    Help!!
So I'm working through Tom Wolsky's book (Final Cut Express HD 3.5 editing workshop) and I just got to lesson 12 to work with Title 3D. Well when I go to start the lesson, I try to call up the Title 3D from the generator menu in the viewer. The pop-up displays all the different selections except for Boris/Title 3D. I can't find it anywhere on the program. I've searched in my preferences folder on my HD and I noticed that the BorisFX plugins where installed and that Title 3D (in the Final Cut Express preferences folder) was also there. I've tried discarding the plugins and reinstalling them and that doesn't even seem to work. Does anyone have any idea why my FCE will not let me access Title 3D? Anyone else come across this problem? Tom, what do you think?

I tried reinstalling - no joy.
After some digging around on Google I found this forum post:
    http://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/15/857437
Looks like the QuickTime 7.4 update broke a number of things including the Boris plug-ins. Basically they have lost their bundle flags so are not being recognised by Final Cut Express (or Pro). If you look at one of the replies to the above post there's a link to a file you can download which contains plug-ins with the bundle flag set - here's a direct link to the file:
    http://www.borisfx.com/download_files/CalligraphyForFCP.dmg
Just copy the Title 3D.bundle and Title Crawl.bundle files to the following folder, overwriting the existing ones:
    /Library/Application Support/Final Cut Express Support/Plugins
This fixed the problem for me.

  • Rendering in Final Cut Express

I've been trying to render title screens on Final Cut Express (overlaped over visuals), but I'm told that there is not enough disk space and that I have to free up more disk space. All my footage is on an external LaCie drive, and I have plenty of free space, so that shouldn't be an issue. Has anyone encountered this problem before?

What's the size of your system HD and how much free space do you have on it? Ditto for your Lacie drive.
Are you connecting your Lacie drive via FireWire or USB? (USB is insufficient for video work)
Check your FCE system preferences - what HD are you using for your Render files?

  • Problems with Boris Title 3D (Imbedded Software in Final Cut Express 2.0)

Thanks for all your help on my previous problem...I have run into another though.
As I mentioned before, I recently upgrade to OS X Tiger. I am running FInal Cut Express 2.0, as my editing software. (The following problem was not an issue before I upgraded.) Whenever I try to edit or creat on Title 3D graphic, which used the Boris Title 3D software, the software opens, but the editor does not, and therefore I cannot edit or create any graphics using this software.
If you have any ideas on a solution, please let me know!

    No longer have FCE 2.0

  • How do I make titles in Final Cut Express HD

How do I make titles in Final Cut Express HD?

Effects > Video Generators > Text -or-
Effects > Video Generators > Boris
Select the kind of title you want, drag it to the Viewer.  Click the Controls tab in the Viewer.  Enter your titles, tweak your settings (color, font, etc).  Then move the clip to your sequence.   In general, Boris Title 3D and Title Crawl work best.
If you want the titles to appear over video, place the title clip(s) on a track that is higher than your video.

  • How do I add a title to a video clip w/ LiveType 2 and Final Cut Express 4

I have Final Cut Express 4 & LiveType 2.1.4, I'm not sure how to add titles or test to a video clip, and the tutorials for Final Cut Express 4 don't say how to get started in LiveType. How do I simply add text? The tutorials say how to add effects to the text they just don't say how to add it to the clip or how to get the clip into LiveType.

Well, you don't actually _add text_ to a video clip, you _create a text clip_ and add that clip to your timeline, either adjacent to an existing clip or on the next higher track if you want to layer the text with an existing video clip.
The very simplest way to add text is to use one of the *text generators* built into FCE. Lower Third, Text, Scrolling Text, etc. allow you to create various text clips and give you basic controls over fonts, positioning, size, color, etc. You can find the text generators in the Effects tab in the FCE Browser.
LiveType is a separate and more sophisticated application that enables you to do all sorts of things with text (much more than can be done with the FCE text generators). The basic process is - create your title in a LiveType project. Save the LiveType project. Then in FCE, import the LiveType project; from there, you can treat it just the same as any other clip.

  • Downgrading from Final Cut Pro Studio to Final Cut Express

Will Final Cut Express let me use the Boris Title 3D Video Generator effect that I now use in Final Cut Pro Studio?
Does it have an outline text video generator effect?
Since I have DVDSP 4.1.2, will I be able to drag my exported non self-contained quicktime movie into DVDSP? I have read I can use iDVD.
I see from the tutorial (http://www.apple.com/finalcutexpress/tutorials/) it does not have the ability to log clips for batch capture later but it does have a project button. Does anyone use that and can share what it does?
I have a Canon DV20 HD camera which I use for DV also. Since I have read that FCE will not read HDV from this camera, has anyone brought DV in using this camera?
Does anyone see any other negatives to downgrading?
I have been using Final Cut Pro from version 1.5 since it did what I needed it to do. Over the years they have added a plethora of packages to it, none of which I use. So why spend 700.00 to upgrade when I can spend 200 to get what I will use?
    Thanks for your input.

    Lots of questions:
"Will Final Cut Express let me use the Boris Title 3D Video Generator effect that I now use in Final Cut Pro Studio?"
    Yes.
"Does it have an outline text video generator effect?"
Yes, but don't use. Use Title 3D.
"Since I have DVDSP 4.1.2, will I be able to drag my exported non self-contained quicktime movie into DVDSP?"
Yes. Or you can use Compressor, which you should have, to encode your video.
"I see from the tutorial (http://www.apple.com/finalcutexpress/tutorials/) it does not have the ability to log clips for batch capture later but it does have a project button. Does anyone use that and can share what it does?"
It allows you to log your material first, selecting the pieces on the tape you want to capture and then going back and letting the machine capture the selected pieces.
"I have a Canon DV20 HD camera which I use for DV also. Since I have read that FCE will not read HDV from this camera, has anyone brought DV in using this camera?"
    Never heard of camera.
"Does anyone see any other negatives to downgrading?"
    What version are you using?

  • How do I delete tabs in Final Cut Express?

Final Cut Express 4:  I know I can't delete whole projects; what I'm worried about is doing a bunch of short projects and having the tabs that show the titles of each project become so many I can't even use the program.  If I do 5 short videos and have 5 tabs designating them, what happens when I get to 20?  Or are they temporary files and will disappear soon?  Thanx in advance.

You can delete entire projects, but it isn't a 'one button' method.  When you start and save a new project in FCE, FCE will create several files and folders.  First is the project file which will be saved wherever you decided to save it with the name you give it.  Next, when you bring footage into a project using Log & Capture or Log & Transfer, FCE will create a folder for those files inside the Capture/Scratch folder - the sub-folder will bear the same name as the project.  And then when you render anything in that project, FCE will create a sub-folder inside the Render Files folder and the Audio Render Files folder - both will also bear the same name as the project.  FCE will also create folders for that project in the Autosave Vault folder.  To delete a project completely, navigate those files/folders and delete them and your project will no longer exist, nor will any media or renders associated with it.
    Here's a typical set up:
    Macintosh HD/
         Users/
              Projects/
                   ABC Music Video
                   Jones Project
                   Smith Documentary
    Media Drive/
         Final Cut Express Documents/
               Audio Renders/
                   ABC Music Video
                   Jones Demo
                   Smith Documentary
              Autosave Vault/
                   ABC Music Video
                   Jones Demo
                   Smith Documentary
              Capture Scratch/
                   ABC Music Video
                   Jones Demo
                   Smith Documentary
              Render Files/
                   ABC Music Video
                   Jones Demo
                   Smith Documentary
To delete the project named "Jones Demo" navigate to where those files are stored and delete the folders named "Jones Demo" then empty the trash; the project and all of its associated media will be gone.  The only files that FCE might create for that project that are not stored inside a folder bearing the project's name are the Waveform Cache files - I usually delete the contents of that folder when ever I'm finished with a project.
Personally, I keep all of my project files just in case I ever need to go back to a project.  Project files are relatively small so hard drive space isn't really an issue.
As for the issue of having too many projects open at one time, that's a simple user error.  All you need to do before opening a new or another existing project is to close the project you were working on.  So if I were working on the "ABC Music Video" project and wanted to work on the "Smith Documentary" project for a while, I'd close the "ABC Music Video" Project, then open the "Smith Documentary" project.

  • Changing an SD sequence in Final Cut Express to an HD Sequence?

I have a job done for a client that was done shot in SD and edited in SD on Final Cut Express. I would like to "trick" the software by putting the SD footage in an HD sequence and stretching it manually to keep from having that squashed video effect.
    1) Is this possible?
    2) Can I change a sequence from SD to HD without redoing the entire sequence manually?
If you need this info, I brought the footage into the computer by firewire NTSC
    Thank you.

Thank you for the info. I went to the Boris website and downloaded Boris Uprez. I am new to this. How do I get this plugin to work in Final cut express. Will I see this in the program automatically or do I have to install it and if so, how?
    thanks again for your help

  • IBook G4 and Final Cut Express 4.0

I recently purchased a used 1.33 Ghz iBook G4 to loan to a teen summer camp that I support. They want to produce a video about the camp. I also purchased Final Cut Express 4.0 for them to use. Unfortunately when I loaded the software, only then did I discover FCE prefers 64m VRAM and the video card on the iBook is only 32 and cannot be upgraded. FCE says the lack of VRAM means all "OPEN GL" functions may not be supported. Huh??
Can anyone tell me what this means? Even Apple wasn't real clear. The software will open and seems ready to use - I've not tried it. The kids are going to do a simple video edit using video taken during camp with possibly some limited titles. No 3D rendering, gaming, etc. Is this going to work??

    HI Coyote,
This could prove to be a problem. You definitely need 65MB of VRAM to run FCP. And FCP is a fairly sophisticated video editing program and takes time to learn. Unless the iBook has DVD burn capability, which I doubt, even with an older version of iLife, you wouldn't be able to burn to DVD's. But you could use iMovie, which is part of iLife to view video that's been uploaded to the iBook. Another potential problem is, I think this particular iBookG4's factory drive is 60GB. Video editing requires huge amounts of drive space to run without crashing. iLife 05 requires 4.3GB of drive space. iLife 05 requires 256MB of RAM, but runs much more efficiently with 512MB.
So, you have several glitches. Limited drive space, limited memory, insufficient VRAM, and no DVD burn capability. You wouy also need a camcorder that is compatible with the iBookG4.
I wish I had better news... here is a link to Apple's information for minimum requirements for iLife 05: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306338

  • Final Cut Express Tutorials

Before buying Final Cut Express I want to know how to use the program to see If it is worth it. I looked at it at the apple store and I was totally lost. Is there any free overlook at this application or any free tutorials. iMovie is fine for me until I want to use more than one camera angle and add cool titles, animations, and transitions.
    Thanks

There is not nearly as much FCE learning material out there as there is for FCP. That being said, most of the the FCP relates directly to anything you will do in FCE and if you are just interested in the "look and feel" of non-linear editing at this level, anything Final Cut will probably help out.
Personally, while I was trying to get a handle on FCE I found the following resources invaluable:
    Ken Stone's Final Cut Pro website has hundreds of free tutorials on all aspects of digital video;
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/fcp_homepageindex.html
    For a few dollars a month Lynda.com does about a good a job as anyone in explaining FCE. At least give the sample tutorials a look, they are free;
    http://movielibrary.lynda.com/html/modPage.asp?ID=371
    While not all of us learn well from books, there are a few out there that by themselves or in concert with each other can answer most questions and guide a novice along. I have used all of these and can recommend same;
Final Cut Express For Dummies by Helmut Kobler
Final Cut Express HD 3.5 Editing Workshop, Third Edition by Tom Wolsky
Apple Pro Training Series: Final Cut Express HD by Diana Weynand
    A couple of commercial houses that create training for FCE have websites offering free tutorials that can give you a feel for non-linear editing;
DV Creators have some free tutorials as well as offering "Final Cut Express Foundations" for $50.
    http://dvcreators.net/
Ripple Training offers some on-line tutorials for FCE as well as FCP that are well worth taking a look at.
    http://www.rippletraining.com/
Despite all of the above I would suggest that FCE is not for everyone. There is a certain investment in time, energy and some money to use this program, but for those willing to make the investment it can generate some very rewarding results.

  • TITLE 3D in Final Cut 6

Does anyone know how to reconnect Boris Title 3D in Final Cut 6? I haven't found any of the current topics applicable.
    Thanks!

    Hi all,
    I found a work-around.
Go to *_http://www.borisfx.com/products/calligraphy/_* and download the plug-in.
Install it. Restart FCP 6. You will now be able to open your project without the error message. However, when you go to modify the exisiting Title 3D elements you WILL get an initial error message. I'm at a different edit suite location and don't have access to my machine. But you "OK" it or continue and you will have the Title 3D controls. There is some difference between this older version 1.1 versus the current 2.1 that we are know and love. But the end result is that you can salvage your older projects. I was back online in minutes with the older projects.

  • Saving files and copying data into final cut express

I have read that you can create duplicate copies of your I movie project and work between them so ou can make changes but always have a master file.
but I have not been able to figure out how to do that. And after I am finishend with my project I can export it to final cut express for some additional editing and video layering is that true? can I do the sme with final cut pro or just final cut express? Also is there any quality loss in this method? Thanks in advance

    Hi tnt,
you write on a piece of paper; you copy that paper; you continue to write on the first one... how does the copy "know", what you've written..???
sorry, who gave you that advice of copying projects? backup frequently, yepp, that makes sense with ANY data on a computer... but with a backup you allways go back in time.....
FCE is able to open iMovie project directly (don't know about FCP, don't own, $$$); BUT then the file structure is broken, you can NOT re-import project to iM, BUT the movie...
you know the difference? a movie is one single block, a project makes it possible to edit transitions, to edit titles etc...
for sure, you can export and import from and to iM and FCE/P without loss of quality as long as you stay with "dv stream" (native file format of both/all three apps). I'm, doing this a lot, using iM for editing and FCE "just" for "special effects", advanced titles etc.-
    hope I could be helpful

  • Best export for dvd quality using final cut express hd?

    hey guys
i have final cut express hd...what would be the best export settings to get nice highquality dvd?
i am going to put about 25, short 5 minute clips in the dvd..will it be able to fit and all be a nice quality?
    any suggestions?
    thankyou!

Yes, provided you use dual layer DVD-R and your burner supports this newer media.
Otherwise the most you can burn to DVD-R SL media is 120 mins. (but keep in mind menus, titles, photos, etc all consume space as well thereby reducing the available amount of run time / QT Playback.

  • How to Use iMovie Projects in Final Cut Express

I just upgraded to Final Cut Express because of the feature of being able to start a project in iMovie and then finish it in FCE. The steps look simple in the manual File / Open / etc. But when I do it, it tells me File Error: Wrong Type. Is there something I am doing wrong or some other format for the iMovie projects to make them work?

FCE 4.0.1 is the current version of FCE. There is nothing newer.
A new version of Final Cut Studio was released last year; perhaps it can import iMovie11 projects. You would have to try it to find out. If there is an Apple store nearby, copy your Movies folder to a portable hard drive, take it with you, and ask to try it out with Final Cut Pro on one of the Macs in the store. Most stores will let you do this.
Be aware, however, that even if the import works, there are many limitations: Transitions become cross-dissolves. Cropping, Ken Burns effects, color adjustments, titles, green screen clips, PiP clips, voiceovers, sound effects & music tracks are not exported in the XML file.
