Title 3D in FCE 3.5?

Is title 3D included in FCE HD 3.5? I upgraded today and a project from FCE 3.0 with a title 3D in it was asking for the plug in. I checked and it's in the Library/Application Support/Boris (don't know the full folder) folder but it won't let me choose that as the location of the plugin. What do I need to do?

Wow, what a day. So the fix is in and was found here:

It seems at some how on my user profile .bundle files were just folders and not bundles (the icon wasn't that lego looking thing). I ran the script in that thread, rebooted and it's working!

Boris Title 3D in FCE

I'm using FCE 4.0.1 and Boris Title 3D version 2.1.0.060120
I'm finding that text justification doesn't work correctly. Also, it doesn't allow me to set it differently in different sections the way you can change size or color & stuff. This is the only text generator that works for the effect I'm creating (so I can't use something else).
Have there been any updates to this plugin? I asked Boris FX but didn't get a reply. (I hate it when companies have an online help site and don't even respond.)

OK, great! That helps. But there's still two flaky behaviors I'm seeing.
I have selected full justification with the orphan left justified. But the orphan ends up full justified:
+(I tried to add a picture to the thread, but I guess I don't know how to do that.)+
Anyway, there is no difference between any of the 3 justify buttons. But I can force it to do what I want by putting a tab to the right - so that's an OK work around.
Then when I view it on the Canvas, it takes on a whole new life of its own. The word wrapping occurs in different places.

How do I save my title settings in FCE?

I am creating complex titles in FCE using the lower-third feature. How do I save these settings to use the exact same ones later? I don't want to start over and may not remember exactly what they were. They need to match through the video. It seems that I have done this before but can't remember and of course nothing in the documentation.

I cannot recall if FCE has a Favorites bin in the Browser like FCP does, but if it's there, drag the title clip from the Timeline to your Favorites folder - or - probably the simplest method would be to create a "Favorites" project; create a new project file in FCE and Save As "Favorites" (or whatever name you choose). Copy the title clips to the new project and save. You can add different title clips (or other clips) to that project over time. Whenever you need to use those titles again, just open the "Favorites" project file and copy them into the new project.

Unrendered Livetype titles in FCE

Everytime I try to put a Livetype titles into my FCE project, I try to play it and it says,"Unrendered". I heard that you have to have the sequence settings in FCE so they match the project properties in Livetype. What do I have to switch so that the livetype titles will not say Unrendered while I am playing them in FCE?
And another question- How can I make slow-mo in FCE?

A LiveType project will always need to be rendered unless you switch to Unlimited RT.
Modify>Speed (Cmd-J).

FCE Titles

In adding text titles to a FCE film clip, the title script is centered and begins at the middle height of the clip. Is there any way that a title word can be placed at the top of the clip or at any other place (not centered) on the clip? Thanks, Jack A

Mixing Livetype into FCE

I am adding LiveType titles to an FCE movie that I am compiling in DV format from HD format minitapes. I have the FCE video formatted in DV/DVCPRO-NTSC format, and I have added some LiveType titles. My question concerns the aspect ratio for the Livetype files, as it seems to me that my FCE video aspect ratio is now changed, and the movie is now too stretched laterally for its height. I read that if a LiveType file is the first clip on the timeline, then FCE will format the whole project to its format; the LiveType clip pixel aspect ratio is currently set at NTSC-CCIR 601, with a 720 x 486 frame size. The FCE clips are now showing a frame size of 720 x 480. Is this what it should be, and do I have the right pixel aspect chosen in LiveType?

How did the material get into your computer? If you captured it as DV with the anamorphic preset then the anamorphic flag will already be set. If not you'll have to set it. Make sure also that the sequence you edit into has the anamorphic flag set and is in widescreen.

Boris Calligraphy-TITLE 3D Keyframing

Hi all. I read an article by Ken Stone about using title 3d to make text zoom out of the page using the motion key settings. I am able to do it in the viewer and canvas but despite hours of using different combinations I cannot get it to work in the timeline. All forums indicate that the manual included with FCE is wrong with regard to keyframing. Even on the Boris website I could not get a definitive answer to the problem.
Has anybody any experience of using title 3d in FCE or knows of any good sources of info.

The Timeline and Canvas are representations of the same thing. When the Canvas is playing what you see matches the playhead in the Timeline.
You should be able to get those titles to fly around the screen and right off screen or even get smmaller or bigger as it does its thing, throw in a spin as well if you like.
You have to enable Image+Wireframe before starting.

TITLE JAGGIES

I find the titles created in FCE or Livetype have strong jaggies, when those created in iMovie or imported from Photoshop are much better. But iMovie and Photoshop titles are too static, I want things to move. Any suggestion to improve them?

There are at least two levels on this Q:
• iMovie'08 to 11 can not deliver Interlaced SD-Video over to iDVD but discard every second line resulting in a quality loss. I use iMovie HD6 or FinalCut
• The way one goes from iM'08 to 11 to iDVD matters to a GREAT degree. I never use in any version of iMovie "Share to iDVD" as this set's off iMovie rendering function - and it's bad. I do.
Share to Media Browser - and as Large - NOT HD or other resolution as this too degrades the out-come.

TIFF Images Rendering

I imported a TIFF image into an FCE project. The image has text in it (as in drawings of texts). Using the Motion tab, I have the image moving in a of scrolling manner. However, even when this project is rendered and exported to decent quality, the text in the image is very jittery like and not smooth at all. I don't have the scrolling really moving all that fast at all.
I used TIFF because it is Apple native. Should there be another image type I use? When I made the TIFF image I saved it with no compression and the layers of the image project were 'merged' rather than 'flattened'.
Anyone else experience this issue or know the solution.

Why don't you use Title Crawl in FCE?
Please give exact details of the image, its size, resolution, color space, also the contents, colors, fonts, sizes, anything else. Maybe a screen shot of possible.

Live Type quality output

I am using LiveType to setup titles for my FCE video. When I render the titles, they are poor quality. I have render set to Normal. How do I get better results?

Is Live Type vector based fonts? I thought it was. But I noticed that by moving the text postion on the screen the quality changes from smooth edges to jagged...???
Also the quality changes if I apply a drop shadow over "5" on the setting.
I have a clear background on the top of video footage.<
Are you watching your rendered output on an interlaced monitor or the computer monitor?
LiveType uses your vector system fonts where it can but the animated LiveFonts are either procedural renders or they are little movies, depending on the source font's series.
I can tell you this: LiveType produces lovely, sharp and cool text effects. Your settings and your output viewing options make all the difference.

Can anyone help on this one......
I have been using FCE for a little while now and I am getting to understand it. A problem I now have is that when I add text to the start and end of films the available resources are poor compared to iMovies. I don't really want to be moving back and forwards into iMovies so can anyone point me in direction of a good/ reasonably priced plug in package that provides nice intros/ text/ transitions?

can not share this impression..
on install of FCE, you additionally got LIVETYPE on your harddrive, which offers zillions of options ..
its very brief manual alone has >150 pgs of advice for any kind of title-ing.
and FCE' built-in BORIS effects additionally has tons of options for title design ..

10bit

Hi FCE can export a sequence in 10bit uncompressed format with chapter markers(self conteined) fro iDVD. I need to export in 10bit uncompressed because the titles and graphics look better thanks.

Thanks for the response and yes iDVD works with 10bit uncompressed in my university I use FCP and exports in 10bit with chapters markers and import the created file in iDVD and work great, but only I want to Know if FCE can do that. Because I don' have $1,300 for FCP and I'm not a pro I just have a macboook pro and like to edit for fun. So maybe if the titles created in FCE or Live Type when exported with the DV codec look good in a DVD I will try it.

Newbie: subtitling without sound in LT?

I'm a FCE and LT newbie, although I have experience working with video editors in Windows.
I need to create subtitles for a movie. I exported the movie from FCE and placed it "behind" in LT. But because LT does not support sound (correct?), I don't know exactly where/when to place my subtitles. And FCE doesn't create text, correct?
So I'm wondering how does one place subtitles accurately with spoken words. My subtitle search on this forum brought very little.
Do I have to create a different LT file for each line of dialogue and then import each line into FCE? Right now, that's the best I can come up with. Is that standard procedure? Other suggestions?

LiveType does not support audio.
One workaround is to place markers in your Final Cut timeline. Press M twice to place a marker and call up the dialog where you can give it a descriptive name. You can then export a reference movie with markers which will show up in LiveType.
FCP includes a simple text generator and Boris titling tools. FCE should at least have the simple one. Click the little film icon with an A on it, at bottom tight in the Viewer. There should be a list, one of which is labelled Text.

No, just choose Track > New Track from the menu bar and drag it to where you want it on the Timeline.

Using FCE 4 to edit mov file, inserted 8 chapter markers by double tap M, enter title, click add chapter marker. Rendered and half of the chapter markers unrecognized or not functional. Delete FCE prefs and redo project did not help. How to fix?
