Title 3D Looks crunchy

For some reason my titling in 3D on my FC Express looks "stepped" Is there some way to blur the edges a little bit so it doesn;t look that way?

might help if you gave a bit more detail on what, how it was made and format.
but
effects > video filter > blur
The blur filters will not feather the edges if that is what your after.

  • Can't see event titles or project titles when looking at photos in the photo view in Aperture 3?

    Howdy,
I recently switched from iPhoto 11 to Aperture 3. The only drawback so far is I am unable to view Project Titles when I am viewing all of my photos in the photo view. In iPhoto, I often would look at all of my photos in photo view while displaying the event titles. Is this possible in Aperture? Also, is there a simple way to view the file names underneath the photos in photo view instead of seeing the version name?

Hi Greg.  Welcome to Aperture and the Apple Aperture users forum.

You should set up all seven of the Metadata Overlays to meet your needs.  (iPhoto is designed as a turn-key operation for those who prefer their meals prepared; Aperture is a kitchen for those who like to cook.)

Have you looked at Projects View (click "Projects" at the top of the Library tab of the Inspector)?  You can group your Projects by Folder or by Year, and you can sort them in a number of ways.  There is no information pane which shows up on Aperture as you scroll (as there is in iPhoto).
Projects View, imho, add tremendous functionality to Aperture.  You can add descriptions to your Projects (and these are included in searches) via the Projects Information window ("{Shift}+i" with a Project selected.)

  • Trying to make titles/credits look good

I've never figured out how to really do my credits in iMovie. I chose "Scrolling Credits", and they come out looking all jumbled. I chose "Scrolling Centered Credits" and they come out looking just as jumbled--and certainly not centered.
I'm particularly trying to have the title "Cast (in order of appearance)" with the word "Cast" centered, and the "in order of appearance" centered underneath "Cast". I can't make it work.
Anyone have some helpful advice for me? Thank you.

I think you just need to experiment a little more. Trying both styles you mentioned seems to center pretty well. With Rolling Centered Credits, - the "center" occurs at the end of the first line, and the beginning of the second line for each pair of entries (in other words, the gap is what's centered, not the line of text). If each pair doesn't have the same number of characters, the line of text certainly will appear shifted, but the gap will be centered on screen.
                    Character        Actor
                          Actor        Character
Rolling Credits provides full justification and fills in a different numbers of periods in between to give each line a uniform length.
                   Character . . . . . . . Actor
                   Actor . . . . . . . Character
If you're crediting individuals (without an associated role or title), then you might find the Scrolling Block style more useful. Subsequent new lines are created by inserting a shift-return at the end of each intended line of text, and each line is centered in the scroll.

  • TITLES LOOK BAD

    HI ALL,
I dont understand, why it output quality of the fonts in IMOVIE HD titles, is looking so bad. Im a broadcast tv camera person, and simpley trying to edit home movies and put basic titles in. The output resulting product of the titles is looking very cheap, poor, low rez, i dont know how to call it. On a windows PC, a friend using MOVIEMAKER, made beautiul looking titles in about 2 mins.
AM I DOING SOMETHING WRONG? I"VE TRIED MANY DIFFERENT FONTS...Im thinking even the preview looks better than when its proccessed...
    ANY IDEAS?
    mike

How are you viewing the movie? In iMovie? In QTPlayer? On a TV?
Chances are that if you view the movie on a TV your type will be OK.
If you are viewing the movie inside iMovie you may improve the preview quality by setting your playback preferences to the highest quality level.
If viewing a movie in QTPlayer, the movie may be playing in low res. QTPlayer Pro can be used to set playback to high quality. Note that this only affects playback on your Mac. A TV will give you the highest quality playback regardless of this setting.
There is some information here which may help in choosing appropriate fonts and colors.
    http://www.rqs.ca/RollingCredits/faq.php
You probably already know this but using colors like Red will get you horrible looking titles no matter what unless you really throttle the red back -- dull red is better.

  • X11 title bar buttons look strange in Snow Leopard

I just used X11 for the first time on my newish iMac with Snow Leopard (upgraded from Leopard with CPU disc that came bundled with computer.)
The red, yellow, and green buttons in the xterm window's title bar look odd. The red one looks fine, but behind the yellow button is the edge of a grey button that is offset maybe 2 pixels to the right. Behind the green button is the same grey button underneath but offset even further to the right, maybe 4 pixels.
It gives the effect of the OS X window buttons being superimposed over the top of some other buttons. I don't know if that is really what's happening. The buttons work fine, it's just a minor visual glitch that is subtly annoying. Anyone else noticed this?

  • Large font titles look broken after rendering

I'm having a problem when trying to create large, frame-filling titles in Final Cut Pro X. They look fine before FCPX starts rendering, but afterwards, there are chunks missing from the corners of certain letters. The problem is the same with various fonts. The font size is 580 and I'm using the 'custom' title. The images attached show what the title looks like before rendering (fine) and after (broken). I've tried exporting as a master file to see if it's just a problem with the preview, but the title still looks broken in the exported file.

Ah, that's a shame. Is there any way around this? Perhaps I could somehow turn the title into a transparent image and replace the title with that? I can't actually wait for Apple to fix the bug as I've got a deadline and need to get my video published!
Yes, you can do that if the title is static. Create the text you want in an image, and bring the image into FCP X.
You can make the letters transparent in the still image software or, easier perhaps, use the blend modes or create a key in FCP

  • Looking for name of title effect

can someone tell me which transition will allow a title to look like it falling from the foreground and landing on the screen. In movie trailers it's often accompanied by a sound effect when it "lands"

If what you want is to have the title start out bigger and then get to the correct size, making it look like the title fell from 3D space on to the flat surface of the screen, create the title using a larger frame size than your project, without a background - just text - and then scale it down using the keyframes of the Scale parameter of the Motion effect.
It is easier to sell the effect if it bounces, and also if it blows in a bit (changing the position parameters).

  • Titles on plasma screens

    Hi everyone,
I have trouble with creating smooth titling for video work that gets shown on something as big as 62" Plasma screens.
The video work is a mix of DV footage, powerpoint slides and titling created in FCP and it all looks neat up to the point where I put it out as an mpg for the DVD and show it on those plasmas: the titling, mainly the one created in FCP looks really jagged and pixelated.
I tried to look up some previous posts on the subject and read that it has to do with Plasma screens working in progressive mode and causing problems to interlaced video.
I rendered the videos out in progress mode (after I tried usual interlaced) through compressor and tried various other options but it doesn't get any better. Is this something I have to live with once it gets to that size of viewing format or is there a specific title tool/plug in/ other application that I should use?
The final piece is loaded with text so of course it is kind of nice to be able to work on it in FCP as I have freedom to move the individual video layers around in case the client decides to change something afterall.
There is no problem from the original DV footage...it's just the titling which looks absolutely poor.
    Thanks for all advice!
    Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Thin fonts and serif fonts will tend to get a bit crunchy upon conversion to mpeg.
When you say "dv" do you mean 4:3? If you are working 4:3 and it is filling the screen on a 62" tv, it's getting blown up larger than screen resolution which will increase the jaggies. Plus interlacing issues as you mentioned...
    Good luck.

  • Pasting Attributes with Title 3D? - A follow up inquiry

    Hello All,
The other day I asked whether it is possible to copy and paste attributes from a text 3D title to another. The answer/solution offered was to take a "master" format, and then change the specific names and titles in each clip.
I keep thinking about this solution, and it surprises me. In the same way that one can take an Excel spreadsheet and copy the format from one to another, I would think that it would be advantageous (as well as popular) to have such control with titles in FCP.
I'm not a programmer, so I don't know if this is asking the world. Is it just a feature that hasn't been developed, or is it a complicated function, or do folks simply determine up front what the titles will look like, and if they change their mind, go back and retype all of the information?
    Just curious.
    Thanks.
    DG

Title 3D does let you create and save "styles" that you can reuse whenever you choose to do so.

  • Blurry Titles in Premiere CS6

Is Adobe doing anything to correct the problems that Premiere CS6 has when creating titles that look great until they are rendered, at which point they become blurry...titles created in Photoshop and/or AfterEffects render out the same way in Premiere.

Here is a simplest workflow using the PPro Titler to generate a title.
ie. Create a Title on a White, Black and Alpha BG.s  ( alpha is the centre section)
The samples show screen grabs of the process plus a frame that is grabbed from an H264 HD 1080p Export playing in Windows Media Player.
    Everything is at  Default Setting.
I doubt you can see much difference between any of them and no loss or blur on the "export" in the WMV player. Last frame bottom right.
    Top left Titler Grab
Top Right Full Screen Program Monitor Grab ( Tilde Key Shortcut)
Bottom Left Source Monitor Grab - (Full rez)
Bottom Right - Screen Grab - Playback from WMV Player - H264 1080p file ( YouTube Preset)
You still not have told us your export settings or any settings for that matter!
(Makes it difficult to work out what you are doing without that info.)

  • Title of a page

The name of a particular page is stored in the column 'component_attribute' of the object FLOWS_010500.wwv_flow_activity_log. Now, I would like to know where the 'Title' of the page is stored.
The 'Name' and 'Title' of a page could be different. For example, the name of a page could be 'PG_HOME' while the title could be 'Home'.
I need this information as my application tries to get the 'title' of each page of several different application.
Am using version 1.5.1.00.12 of HTMLDB.

    Good luck!

  • Why does my type look bitmapped (jaggies)

Why does my title type look bitmapped (jaggies)? It's fine in iMovie but looks crappy once I burn the DVD. The max. resolution is 720 x 540.

    Hi
There are at least two levels on this Q:
    • iMovie'08 to 11 can not deliver Interlaced SD-Video over to iDVD but discard every second line resulting in a quality loss. I use iMovie HD6 or FinalCut
    • The way one goes from iM'08 to 11 to iDVD matters to a GREAT degree. I never use in any version of iMovie "Share to iDVD" as this set's off iMovie rendering function - and it's bad. I do.
Share to Media Browser - and as Large - NOT HD or other resolution as this too degrades the out-come.

  • Menu/Title page of DVD blurry

I have a new MacBookPro and just tried to burn my first DVD in iDVD8.
    I used 7.0 Themes - Centerstage.
When I playback the DVD, the text on the main menu/title page looks fuzzy.
    Not crisp like in iDVD.
    I checked the DVD on:
    '08 MacBookPro, 1440x900x32bit
    '09 iMac, 1680x1050x32bit
When I play the DVD full screen, it looks fuzzy.
If I shrink the window to 1/4 of the screen size, it then looks OK.

    Hi
Way out of my doing HD 16x9 but any how I got a list on DVD quality - read and
see if You find anything of use.
    *DVD quality*
    1. iDVD 08 & 09 has three levels of qualities.
iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality (movies up to 120 min.) - BEST
    • Best Performances (movies less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD
    • High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6) (movies up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
    2. From
    • FCE/P - Export out as full quality QuickTime.mov (not selfcontaining, no conversion)
    • iMovie x-6 - Don't use ”Share/Export to iDVD” = destructive even to movie project and especially so
when the movie includes photos. Instead just drop or import the iMovie movie project icon (with a Star on it) into iDVD theme window.
    • iMovie’08 not meant to go to iDVD. Go via Media Browser or rather use iMovie HD 6 from start.
    3. I use Roxio Toast™ to make an as slow burn as possibly eg x1 (in iDVD’08 or 09 this can also be set)
This can also be done with (Apple) Disk Util tool.
    4. There has to be about or more than 25Gb free space on internal (start-up) hard disk. iDVD can't
use an external one as scratch disk (if it is not start-up disc).
    5. Verbatim ( also recommended by many - Taiyo Yuden DVDs - I can’t get hold of it to test )
    6. DVD-R (no +R or +/-RW)
    7. Keep NTSC to NTSC - or - PAL to PAL when going from iMovie to iDVD
    8. Don’t burn more than three DVD at a time - but let the laser cool off for a while befor next batch.
    iDVD quality also depends on.
    • HOW much free space is there on Your internal (start-up) hard disk. Go for approx 25Gb.
less than 5Gb and Your result will most probably not play.
    • What kind of movie project You drop into it. MPEG4 seems to be a bad choice.
other strange formats are .avi, .wmv, .flash etc. Convert to streamingDV first
Also audio formats matters. I use only .aiff or from miniDV tape Camera 16-bit
strange formats often problematic are .avi, .wmv, audio from iTunes, .mp3 etc
Convert to .aiff first and use this in movie project
    • What kind of standard - NTSC movie and NTSC DVD or PAL to PAL - no mix.
(If You need to change to do a NTSC DVD from PAL material let JESDeinterlacer3.2.2 do the conversion)
(Dropping a PAL movie into a NTSC iDVD project
(US) NTSC DVDs most often are playable in EU
(EU) PAL DVDs most often needs to be converted to play in US
UNLESS. They are plabacked by a Mac - then You need not to care
    • What kind of DVDs You are using. I use Verbatim DVD-R (this brand AND no +R or +/-RW)
    • How You encode and burn it. Two settings prior iDVD’08 or 09
Pro Quality (only in iDVD 08 & 09)
Best / High Quality (not always - most often not)
Best / High Performances (most often my choise)
    1. go to iDVD pref. menu and select tab far right and set burn speed to x1 (less errors = plays better) - only in iDVD 08 & 09
    2. Project info. Select Professional Encoding - only in iDVD 08 & 09.
    Region codes.
iDVD - only burn Region = 0 - meaning - DVDs are playable everywhere
DVD Studio pro can set Region codes.
    1 = US
    2 = EU

  • Unwanted text in a title

I have edited a lot of video clips and titles.  Now I have unwanted test in two titles.  When I try to edit tie titles, they look fine.  How do I get rid of the unwanted text?

Which version of the program are you using, FH?
Go to Timeline mode or Expert View and look at your upper video tracks. It sounds like you have have a title on a video track above another video title.

  • Help! Titles wildly distorted after font change!

I generated titles in LiveType, imported to FCP sequence, ouput on DVD with DVDSP. The font I used was Geneva. Unfortunately, I left it at 100% white, which wasn't smart. Result was that they flickered slightly.
So, I went back to LiveType and re-did them. I did two changes: I changed the font to Impact, and I made it to 85.5% white. Impact is thicker, so there are no "thin" parts which can flicker, but Impact also makes the title more "compact" occupying less space than Geneva... so I made the titles slightly bigger (f.ex. certain titles I change from 30 in Geneva to 40 in Impact.
Anyhow, I changed nothing else other than font and size and whiteness level. Well, here's the problem: when I watch the burned DVD, the titles now are really distorted! It is as if I were seeing them reflected in a fishbowl - the end words toward the left and right edge of the screen are squished and leaning inward. Here's the thing: I did not go outside of the "margin" in LiveType and furthermore, the titles are NOT distorted at all in Geneva (nor are the titles distorted on the computer monitor, only on TV). What gives? How to correct this? They don't flicker any more, but are now funhouse mirror distorted.

How did you insert these titles into your FCP
project? Are they exported .mov's, LT project files,
    etc...?
I generated .mov files from the .ipr in LT, then went into FCP and imported .mov files from LT, and put the .mov files on the timeline.
I used exactly the same workflow to generate the UNDISTORTED titles - only difference this time was changing the font to Impact and 85.5% white (from 100%). Again, the workflow was the same - .ipr -> .mov -> FCP and the result was fine with Geneva 100% white, but distorted with Impact 85.5% white.
If you used the LT file then maybe there is some sort
of corruption either in the project file itself or
with the preferences of either program.
How do the titl;es look when viewed in fcp?
Titles look fine in FCP - with both the old Geneva 100% white and the new Impact 85.5% white. Problem is how the Impact fonts look on DVD on TV. On DVD on a computer LCD screen they look fine. The Geneva look fine on DVD on TV. The Impact look fine on computer LCD screen but distorted in the TV.
How do they look if you export your FCP project as a
    QT movie?
There are many places where this could be fubar'ed so
the first we have to figure where the problem is
    happening.
