Title 3D manual roll

I'm trying to apply customized Motion to the Title 3D, in place of the standard "roll".
But probably I'm missing something, since I'm not able to build a title higher than the standard 720x576 (PAL) to be rolled across the screen. In the Title 3D panel I write lines that should cover 2 or 3 times the vertical size of the screen, but after "Apply" only the central lines appear, if in the Control tab the Animation Style = None. I don't want to use "roll" since I'll animate it with the Motion tab.
Obviously if I switch to Animation Style = roll all lines appear as expected. But this is not what I want.
Is there a way to enlarge the the size of the "static" title to 720x1152 or more?
Thanks
Piero

I want to have scrolling titles that stop when the word "The End" is centered in the screen.
Title Crawl is OK but does not stop; then I tried to use Motion to control the title in place of roll, but I cannot make titles longer than a screen size...
Now my workaround is to use Title Crawl, Animation=Roll on V1. Then I superimpose a Freeze Frame in V2 of the frame of title where "The End" is centered. It works and it is OK even without path smoothing.
(Another workaround I know it works, is to use Photoshop to build titles of whatever length, import it in FCE and use Motion. But for many reasons I'd prefer to use Title 3D or Crawl...)
Still I wonder why, if I create Title 3D longer than a screen size, FCE does not allow to apply motion to it as if it were a large imported image file.
Any suggestion?
Thanks Tom for answering

  • How do i customize Location bar so it also brings up bookmark results where the title was manually changed by me?

I added some bookmarks where I added more descriptive words to the title. Later when I type those descriptive words in the location bar the bookmarks don't show up. I even tried using the on-demand filtering command in location bar - meaning when you type "#" followed by words that you want firefox to match in the bookmark title, it will show up all the bookmark entries that have words matching in the bookmark title. That didn't work either! How do i customize Location bar so it also brings up bookmark results where the title was manually changed by me?

Check that the Bookmarks Toolbar is visible and that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is still placed on the Bookmarks Toolbar.
If the menu bar is hidden then press F10 or hold down the Alt key, that should make the "Menu Bar" appear.
Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible: "View > Toolbars"
    * Open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout" (Linux, Windows)
    * Check that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
    * If the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the toolbar palette in the customize window to the Bookmarks Toolbar
    * If you do not see the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" or other items that are missing in the toolbar palette or on a toolbar then click the "Restore Default Set" button

  • Titles - "fuzzy" credit roll - what to do??  CS4 issue?

I am rolling 70 names in 45 seconds for End Credits using the Titling feature. Problem is they are really quite blurred! I have exported to test DVD reproduction but same visual nasty. (Using TimesNewRoman but have experimented with many sans serif fonts also - same problem.) Have never had problems before with slow rolls and fewer names.   Compression is all set at max render possibilities.  Am running a 64 bit Xeon 5520 with much RAM but have tried the same titling with Premiere on a 32 bit machine - same problem.  Also - before exporting and with all viewing options maxed in PPro, the titles scroll with blur but when stopped the blurring immediately snaps back into focus.  It seems like PPro doesn't can't handle the speed of the scrolling with titles.  The slower the titles scroll the less the blur etc.
Any insights or suggestions gratfully received. This is really making my deadline seem hard to manage.    Maybe I need a plug-in?
    Thanks for reading - Bo

Another way to approach this would be if you could let me know what settings could be used in order to avoid the problem.
    Too many to list.
I have tried many settings permutations
That statement is always kind of a red flag to me.  It generally says "I don't know what the hell I'm doing, so I'll try a bunch of different things".  The problem with that approach is it introduces far too many variables into the mix.  A real editor knows what he is starting out with, and where he is going to end up.  He knows there are specific steps and settings that will get him from A to Z, and he uses only those to make things work.
So I guess we have to take another step back and ask, what are you starting out with as far as media (besides the title, as generaly speaking there are no credits without first seeing a video) - DV, HDV, DVCPRO HD, screen capture, something downloaded from the Internet, something else entirely?
And where do you intend to end up with this -  DVD, Blu-ray, iPod, web site, computer playback, all of the above?
    Be precise with your answers.

  • DJ130NR Manual roll paper cut command?

I have a five year old dj130nr wide format printer.  Most of the time routine use makes the printer a breeze with excellent result.  However, I could sometimes have used a manual paper cut (for roll feed paper).
Is there a command, either through the computer or on the control panel that will allow a manual cut?
    Many thanks,

A while ago I had similar problems with custom paper sizes in Aperture with a different Epson printer.
No one had the answer, so I can only conclude that Aperture is weak in this area of printing. Hopefully Apple will address this in Aperture 2.

  • Manual organisation of photos within library / film rolls

I'm new to the world of apple (3 weeks). One aspect I'm enjoying is getting old negatives put on CD and then importing to iPhoto to store / email / use as desktop. But I can't organise the photos within each roll to re-arrange them in the order they were taken. When I go to "View - Sort by", the "manually" option is not highlighted and hence unusable. I just want to be able to drag and drop photos within the library / roll so they are in logical groups and in chronological order within those groups. There seems to be no guidance under "Help". Am I being stupid?
    Any advice welcome.

    Hi caliban,
I know exactly what you are talking about! No, you are not stupid.
First, the manual is only for Albums you create.
    Rolls cannot be organized manually.
So the first thing you need to do is make your Albums.
To make a roll and album, highlight the title of the roll and go to File>new album from selection.
The album will now be in your source column.
Now that we have the albums, there is still a problem though.
If in your preferences you have "place most recent photos at the top" (which I do) you will have the last taken image in the album first . That is not what I want. (or you)
I want to view the photos in the rolls, albums in chronological order. But, I want the most recent rolls on top. Since we cannot change the rolls, that leaves us the option to change the album photo order.
You can set the album view to manual and drag the images where you want (pain in the ...)
I just saw this hint today, so go check it out.
Sort iPhoto album images by forward date
This is some info, including an applescript, to sort album images in an album in correct chronological order

  • Stop and fade out a rolling title

How can you stop and fade out a rolling title, if at all?
    Thank you.
    Pal

Here's an alternative approach - it's great to have alternatives! I believe that to "stop and fade out a rolling title" is what the Roll/Crawl Options box is all about. Here's what I do:
    Create a Default Roll Title.
In Roll/Crawl Options click on Start Off Screen (Preroll will disable) and enter the following values: Ease-In: 0, Ease-Out: 50 and Postroll: 100
    Leave End Off Screen unticked
Make a few space lines before and after whatever it is you want to have stay on the screen at the end so that it fits in the middle. In my case that's usually ME! :-)
Your titles (as long as you like) will start off screen and then they will roll and roll until that last block appears and slows down - the Ease-Out value. That will stay on the screen for the Postroll value duration. Usually I have a normal disolve transition to do the fadeout. All done in just a few mouse clicks.
(The above values are what I use 99% of the time but you might wish to experiment.)

  • Rolling Titles appear to have an interlace problem on blue ray

    Hey guys!
I have a sequence with h264 footage in 1080i 25 (pal) and created rolling titles using the rolling titles default. Then I rendered out a MPEG2 Blue Ray with maximum render quality and best video quality and used Toast to burn a blue ray. Everything is great when viewed on TV except the rolling titles. They seem to "jitter". The frame rate is 25 in the rolling title sequence I generated. Is there a way to change/see any other settings that could cause such a problem?
    Thanks in advance!

    I give a +1 for Jim's suggestion.
I cannot recall the last time that I used the Titler's Roll, or Crawl Preset.
Good luck, and hope that Keyframes (remember, you can then adjust Interpolation and Velocity) fixes things for you.

  • Rearranging photos in A Roll

Is there a way to rearrange the order of fotos in a given Roll? Alaso, when I try to drag some photos from an early roll to a later one (way down/up the list of rolls, the screen scroll is so fast that I cannot Drop the images where I want them. Is there a fix for this?
    Lando

    Hi landolphe,
You can't manually arrange photos in a roll, the arrangement is done by what you choose under View>Sort photos
For the roll problem: Click on the title of the roll you want to add the images to, this will select all the images in the roll. Now scroll to where the images are that you want to add and Command click each one to add them to the total selection.
Now go to File>Create film roll and a new film roll will be created with all the selected images.

  • IMovie Titles

I am "captioning" a thirty minute movie recording. I am clipping the movie and adding Titles to act as captions. The one problem I'm having is that I have to adjust each and every Title every time I add them. I am changing the Title preset from 'fade in/out:Project Setting (.5s)' to 'Manual 0.0s.'
My question then: Is there a way, possibly in TERMINAL, to change the iMovie preset on the Titles browser?

    Hi, ARTIE,
Be sure that you are dragging the name of the title, ie. 'rolling credits' and not the text.

  • Spotlight doesn't search iPhoto for included data, such as titles!!!

This is a complaint I had about iPhoto 6 too. If you use spotlight and type in a word, spotlight will NOT return any pictures from iPhoto. It does not mine the iPhoto data such as photo titles, descriptions, film roll or event titles or keywords. It only looks at the file name brought in when it was first imported into iPhoto.
Any ideas on why the guys at Apple can't figure out how to get to the data in their own programs? This problem has continued to exist for too long.

Lots of times I need to find a photo within Finder, like when uploading to a blog and such.
Of course, that's not supported, you know. And part of not supporting it is that the OS doesn't help you do it.
There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
To upload to MySpace or any site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser. Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS

  • What are the settings to print a panorama photo on roll paper?

I have an Epson R2400 using 8.3 inch roll paper. I want to print a panorama photo (cropped) borderless 8.3 in x 36 in. I have done it using Photoshop (export from Aperture), but each combination I use to print in Aperture ends up shrinking the photo to fit on an 8.267 in x 11.692 effective size even though it is roll paper. I have tried A4 roll paper banner, custom paper sizes (8.3 x 36), manual roll paper settings, etc. Each time the photo is "fit" onto the A4 size when sent to the printer. Print Preview shows the result I hope to get (the full photo with no excess white areas), but when printed the actual photo gets shrunk down or cut off on both ends depending on the combination of settings.
Anyone know the combination of settings to make it happen? What's the trick?

A while ago I had similar problems with custom paper sizes in Aperture with a different Epson printer.
No one had the answer, so I can only conclude that Aperture is weak in this area of printing. Hopefully Apple will address this in Aperture 2.

  • Photo titles missing when making a book...

    Hi --
My wife and I are trying to use iPhoto to make several new photo books from our recent wedding photos and we have all the photos organized according to title and film roll (we did both film & digital). They uploaded to the library just fine and all the titles are viewable in the library, but when we go to the "make book" fuction the titles in the upper window above the book layout have disappeared. Since we have all the photos we want to use written down by title, is there any way to view the titles of your photos while in the "make book" function?

    Doug:
Unfortunately not all themes automatically include the titles or comments even though there is a Settings option to do so. What theme are you using?

  • JMS MDB manual rollback possible ?

    Hi,
I want to know if it's possible to manually roll back a message if something goes wrong ?
I have a Message Driven Bean that receives a message and sends it over http to another component. Now I want to make sure that my message isn't lost. So in case of an http timeout I want the message to be put back on the queue in front of following messages.
As I read before, a message is removed from its JMS Queue in case the onMessage method of the bean completes, so in my code
    public void onMessage(Message message){
    try{
    //send message over http
    }catch(Exception e){
//this is where I want the message to be roll-backed
As it is now, if there is an http timeout, an axception will be catched, but the onmessage method will still be executed successfully, and the message will be removed from the queue, result, a loss of the message.
is this possible with standard jms ?
    kind regards
    Bert

It is certainly possible, but it depends on how your application is working.
if you are working with beans: No problem, just set the MessageDrivenContext.SetRollBackOnly() -> rolls back the transaction! (in case of Container managed transaction), if you are using your own transactions, simply roll them back your self.
If you are not using beans, you simply do not acknowledge your message, for JMS a message needs to be acknowledged before it assumes that it is delivered. So set your ACK_MODE to CLIENT_ACKNOWLEDGE and in case of an exception do not acknowledge it, otherwise, do acknowledge it.
Since you are using a MDB the first solution should be used in your case.
