Title 3D roll

What's the best way of rolling Boris' Title 3D roll?
Is Boris' Title Crawl also vector based? Is it preferable to text rolls than Title 3D?

Title Crawl isn't, which is why it doesn't have all the scaling and distance tools Title 3D has. That said, it's still the better way to do scrolls as it has better frame blending, I think, and a lot more text options obviously.

  • How to make a rolling image title

I want to make a rolling title scene where I can have images that move into the screen quickly then slow or stop at the middle of the screen, with text somewhere on the photo. A new image would come in every couple of seconds and this would repeat. How can I do this?

The titler has roll/crawl option that will let you scroll the typ automatically. For the images, you'll need to animate by hand using the Effects Controls Panels > Motion properties. it can all be done in  prPro, but it more typically a job for After Effect with that much animation having to be in sync together.

  • Rolling Titles appear to have an interlace problem on blue ray

    Hey guys!
I have a sequence with h264 footage in 1080i 25 (pal) and created rolling titles using the rolling titles default. Then I rendered out a MPEG2 Blue Ray with maximum render quality and best video quality and used Toast to burn a blue ray. Everything is great when viewed on TV except the rolling titles. They seem to "jitter". The frame rate is 25 in the rolling title sequence I generated. Is there a way to change/see any other settings that could cause such a problem?
    Thanks in advance!

    I give a +1 for Jim's suggestion.
I cannot recall the last time that I used the Titler's Roll, or Crawl Preset.
Good luck, and hope that Keyframes (remember, you can then adjust Interpolation and Velocity) fixes things for you.

  • Boris title crawl missing after converting with Compressor

Not sure where to put this, since it involves two applications, FCP and Compressor.
I have my credits done as a Boris title crawl (roll). They roll up just like credits in the average movie. They're quite long, spanning almost 4 minutes. Some videos are also included in the open space during this title crawl.
When I convert the files for use with DVD Studio, I used the DVD Best quality 90 minutes presets. It performed that conversion without a hitch.
Looking at the video, everything looks great (it's interlaced, of course). No apparent problems, until the end, where the credits should be scrolling: there's nothing. The videos show up, but only one small section of the credits actually show, and it's cut-off.
I checked the credits again in FCP, and they all fit 100% within the inner title-safe overlays. I've never had any trouble with these rolling credits, except for this problem now.
Any ideas what could cause them to almost completely disappear? most of the time the screen is pure black with absolutely NO text whatsoever. Only three lines show up, and they are cut off on both sides (they extend beyond the view of the screen on both the right and the left).
Many thanks to whoever can assist me.

So you're saying I should just export one as a test? Or, what I was thinking is, export the title crawl as a self-contained movie, then import it back into FCP and then send it to Compressor; can't mess it up like it does if it's a strait-up video, right?
Still can't figure out why Compressor would mess it up like that though. Looks perfect when I export the whole movie as a self-contained movie, which I already did twice. I then burned a sample DVD Using iDVD as a test to see how my video looked on the TV screen. Everything was perfect, except a small amount of flickering in some text (but it wasn't enough to bother me).
Yet, sending it to Compressor completely destroys the title crawl, leaving the intermixed videos untouched. Just plain weird...

  • Can't move credits in title designer

Ok, this may be a very simple question because I know I have done this before.
I created a long list of credits in the title designer and I just want to animate them on the timeline
with 2 points, at the beginning and at the end so they will scroll up the screen.
When I move the position of them in the timeline...they just disappear?
What am I doing wrong that they are not scrolling up the screen but disappearing?
    Thanks!

    Danged thing is still queued.
Until then, and after you send your PRPROJ to Eddie as a .TXT file. Here are the setting you should have in the Roll/Crawl Options:
Title Type = Roll (radio button)
Direction (doesn't matter, as we have a Roll, not a Crawl)
    Timing (Frames):
    Start Off Screen = checked
End Off Screen = whatever you want it to do
    Preroll = 0
Ease-In = whatever you need to look smooth
Ease-Out = whatever you need to look smooth
    Postroll = 0
    Click OK.
Now, in the Titler, use the Selection Tool and click on your Text Box. You should see the Bounding Box around the type. Move it until the top of the Text Box is right at the top of the Title-Save highlight. Note: you can move it up even more, if you want it quicker, because you have checked Start Off-screen.
Since you moved the Text Box, I'd hit the Vertical Center Tool to the Toolbox. It's to the right of the Horizontal Center Tool, and both are between the Align and the Distribute Tools.
Now, test it in your Timeline. If you want it to start even more quickly, go back and use your Selection Tool to move the Text Box up even higher, say to the top edge of the screen. That'll start it pretty quickly.
Good luck, and I hope that it's a setting issue, and that Eddie doesn't find something really amiss with your Project.

PS, I still think that Keyframing this puppy would get you what you want and need in less time than the screen-cap is spending in the queue.

  • How do I create titles for albums in Photo app?

When someone sends me photos in an email and I download them to my ipad2 they automatically appear in the native Photo App. When I tap Album they are grouped together with the title “Camera Roll” whatever that means. My question is: How to I change the title “Camera Roll” to a title of my choosing? I know how to do this in iPhoto on my MacBook Pro where most of my photos are grouped in “events” but have no idea how to do this on my ipad. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Photos that are emailed to you and saved to your iPad are automatically saved to the Camera Roll. You can not title the photos or albums on the iPad without using a third party app. The photo captioning ability is not built into the iOS. You can search the apps store but one app that I know of is called Photo-Sort for iPad. You can also organize and create folders for your photos with this app.

  • Importing, it names the roll for me, how do I get it to ask me for name?

Hi. This is driving me nuts. In iPhoto when I import photos, instead of prompting me to name each roll, it automatically names the rolls. "Roll 17" or whatever. I want it to ask me before importing. How do I make iPhoto do this?
    Thank you so much!
    -Marlo
iMac and MacBook pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

The only way is to Import all of the photos from your camera or card when iPhoto detects the device. EX, you connect your camera, and the Import screen automatically opens with a place for you to title the roll. Then you have to import all the items on the camera. [If iPhoto doesn't launch and open the Import dialog when you attach the camera, go to Image Capture in your Applications folder. In IC preferences you set which application (or none) you want to open when connecting a camera.]
If you use File> Import to Library, it doesn't allow you to name the roll first. After the import, view the library in film roll view. Open the Info pane (lower left corner), select the roll's number, and you can type a new roll title in the Info pane.
If you import a folder of photos already on your hard drive, selecting the folder (or dragging it into the iPhoto window) will create a film roll with the same name. If you'd like a matching album, drag the folder directly into the Source Pane. An album and film roll will be created with the same name as the folder. Once copied into the iPhoto Library, you can delete the folder that was outside of iPhoto.

  • Boris Title Crawl Stop at last line

I have the Boris Title Crawl that comes with FCP version 6. I have a "Credits" list at the end of the video with my company at the last line.
TC continues (while the music is playing) until the last line scrolls off of the screen (I am using "Roll")
I cant figure out how to make it stop rolling when the last line is at the middle of the screen.
    Any help would be appreciated

    Hi -
Use the Percent Completion Slider. It is at the bottom of the Controls tab for your Title Crawl/Roll clip. You might need to scroll the controls window down to see it, It is near the bottom of the Controls pane.
Start your roll by placing a keyframe with 0 Percent Complete, then move your playhead to where you want the roll to stop and make another keyframe. Adjust the slider till the line of type is in the position you want. The Roll will stop there. If you control-click on the second keyframe, you can spline the motion so that the roll will smoothly come to a stop.

  • IPhoto organization in iTunes? It IS supposed to be a LIBRARY you know.

When are we going to see some kind of multiple library function in iTunes similar to the way iPhoto is set up with "Events" organizing the photos. Having one gigantic list of songs that is the only way of viewing your main library (no playlists don't count) is now outdated. Imagine being to have a library for each person in your family all within ONE iTunes, that you can enter like a room? Maybe a cross between Magic Garageband and iPhoto in terms of interface, and an organization combination of Coverflow and Events?
For people who want to have a media center, all their families music in one library but don't want to have to sift through hundreds of Panic! At The Disco songs from your younger siblings when you want to see your own music, you may agree with me that the regular system of scrolling to see songs is as bad as the old iPhoto. Yeah, you can make more than one library, but the software can and has done better, home media organization needs to be the next big step.
    Any ideas?

I hardly think expressing frustration and some possible solutions for a certain aspect of a software is 'complaining'. If it sounded like I was complaining I apologize. I actually like iTunes a lot, HOWEVER:
The problem with the way you (and many others) organize your 12,000-tune library (I have 15,000+, but this isn't a contest) is that like iPhoto 6 and earlier versions, the only way to organize/view the HOME location of your photos was in the huge long list of photos, which could be organized by date, title, film roll, etc. The issue has been fixed in iPhoto 7, by having "events", the home location of the photos in your iphoto interface can be viewed in the classic style of a long list, but also through smaller portals, "Events", which also lead you to the home location, rather than an organization of individual photos from different film rolls, which is essentially what an "album" is in iPhoto, or "Playlist" in iTunes.
The problem is not the file structure, the file structure of iTunes is perfect IMO. iTunes->iTunes Music->Artists->Albums->Songs. Perfect. It's just the interface, which has already in a conceptual sense been solved between garageband and iphoto. Some kind of combination of the "Audition" interface, and the classic list of songs, would be a cool way to view in a digital interface something more similar to a physical "Library". Of course, it'd have to be made in a less little-kid-game type of way, more streamlined and cool than simply entertaining. But if one could 'enter' into your library, or I guess, your 'room' of the library and view your music, then you could organize it all in one place and view it like the traditional iTunes library list we have now, while having multiple people's music in one Library, easily backed up, easily accessible with multiple iPods, it'd be great.
Also, it would give way to a iPhoto/Aperture type interface, where there are more buttons... a button for quick "Convert" file types for people who keep most of their library in Lossless but need to convert fast to fit on iPods (seeing how large personal computer HD's are getting hopefully more people will have Lossless-formated libraries in the near future), a button to add to iDisk on MobileMe or something, a button to view what playlists an individual song is currently included in, a button to publish a compilation to iWeb making some kind of Apple designed music-blog. Just something more dynamic, there's tons of cool things that could be built in. All the other iLife apps are super dynamic now, iTunes needs to catch up, at least for the Mac.
I hope I have described the problem well enough, and in at least a vague way described my solutions. Cheers.
    Max
P.S. Additions: If there were some kind of "Event" type interface, where you could scroll back and forth over the key photo and view the album artworks (like the way you view the particular Event's photos in iPhoto), then it would bring an importance back to Album Artwork, which I've also posted about, and make viewing album artwork again regular part of listening to music. Not enough people use Coverflow yet, and hopefully as digital music develops, more people will legally obtain music (even if it's free, but legally free), which will include booklets and artwork.

  • PE7, so far, so very good

Downloaded a copy of PE7 from the Adobe site. 3.2GB total and very quick. Uninstalled everything to do with PE4 (and Powerdirector 7...), defragmented the C: partition, deleted all unecessary files from the dedicated external hard drive (a 500GB WD), installed PE7 and in three hours of editing twenty five minutes of HDV files, have been unable to crash it. Did exactly what I used to do with PE4, added files, added crawling and rolling text, edited the text, changed the font, added drop shadow, rendered, etc., etc., and not once did it crash. Really tried to crash it. Simply did the stuff that would have had PE4 reeling, but, nothing happened. Render times actaully take as long as indicated and sometimes a little faster. No more hitting the enter key through squinted eyes. Haven't shared yet via DVD or Blu-ray and still have to add some opening titles and rolling credits at the end, but things are looking very, very promising. Seems they may have ironed out the bugs. Although it's early days, so far, I'm a very happy bunny...did nothing else other than install...
Interestingly, when you double click the icon on the desktop to open the application, you get the PE7 startup title, which quickly runs through the installation of the .dll's and plugin's, etc. 95% of the developers names seem to be of Indian origin. Seems some of the development may have been outsourced (or even 'insourced'), however, in my book, they've done an excellent job (so far...)...
Is it possible to download of copy of this PE7 book then Steve...?

To be honest, I don't know. Because I had such a problem with PE4 and I was changing the location of the scratch files and other stuff, I just couldn't find the location of certain items. So basically I uninstalled PE4 and deleted everything associated with it and started again. I didn't really have too much data (because I stopped when I started having so much trouble), so I guess I could afford to do it.
So just to update on my previous post, I burned a DVD copy (not a Blu-ray yet) and it was flawless. Sometimes when the 'encoding media' came up in PE4 it used to hang and through the task manager in Windows, I would basically have to re-boot. But I'm getting slightly ahead of myself.
From the project I had yesterday evening, I added a music soundtrack, rolling titles at the end and edited them, which in PE4 would not have happened and if it did, in nowhere near the time that the file rendered in PE7. It really is much quicker. I put some animated titles at the beginning, again something I wouldn't even have attempted in PE4 and I must admit, I did crash it once or twice, however, I was really putting the system under pressure and for me putting it to the limit (which I wouldn't even have gotten remotely close to in PE4) by double clicking stuff and not waiting for it to open (yea, a big no-no) and just seeing if I could crash it. It did, BUT, by just closing the programme and re-opening without having to re-boot the computer, I was up and running again (which, with PE4, was something I had to do to make sure I could open the programme again). PE4 would have crashed and burned on my computer, I would have then spent ten minutes shutting down and then twenty by booting up again and waiting for the project to load. With PE7, the project loads four or five times faster (of course this may vary from computer to computer). It really is much, much quiker.
The real 'piece de resistance' for me was to add a disc menu of the Comicbook style from the templates. The template is an HD template and although I may have got it to open in PE4, to try and change the font AND the text was to commit suicide. The sytem would simply not accept it. In fact, just to try and complete the project I was making in PE4, I chose the simplest template and left the text as it was. And it just made it.
This time I used the same template, changed the text and the font and burnt the DVD disc with no problem at all. Blu-ray tomorrow.
My workflow is probably the poorest ever seen, but, in seven hours, I made a twenty one minute movie, with animated opening credits, rolling closing credits, Comicbook disc menu (the most difficult for me on PE4) with associated menu markers, transitions, crawling text, added a soundtrack and burnt the lot. From start to finish, with the odd software crash in between.
Still early days, but so far, for me, a 100% improvement, because the software is now useable, with, fingers crossed, very little likelyhood of crashing and I can actualy have some fun by making movies. Which is what I used to do with PE2. When I could get a Blu-ray to burn on PE4, they look simply brilliant on a Full HD LCD especially with the source coming from an HDV camcorder. For me, definately worth the $102 (I live in Hong Kong...no tax). I'll let you know on the Blu-ray burn.
Oh, and I just forgot, I'm writing this with PE7 open in the background. PE4 would have just froze and a re-boot necessary. No way to open another programme with PE4 open.

  • IPhoto Comments and Spotlight

I am trying to find my photos using spotlight by searching for the comments I have made, but they do not appear in spotlight. I have tried re-indexing my iPhoto files, but that did not seem to do any good. Any ideas? Thanks.

Spotlight is notoriously bad at finding items inside the iPhoto database file. I suggest you use iPhoto, which is great at that. In the lower right corner is a search area. Type your comment there and iPhoto will pull up all the photos with that comment, plus everything with the same word(s) in its title or roll name. Or create a Smart Album with the condition "Comments includes" and type the word(s) you are trying to find.
Were you trying to access them from the Finder for use outside of iPhoto? If so, you should know that it is strongly advised that you do not tamper with the items in the iPhoto Library folder from the Finder, because damage to your database can result. Select the photos you need from within iPhoto, then you can Export them to a desktop folder for use outside of the application. (Ex: to upload to a website, attach to email, or copy to disc for a photo developer.) When finished you can delete the exports, as your files remain safe in the Library folder.

  • HELP!  24,700 photos - can I/should I merge iPhoto libraries?

I've been using iPhoto Buddy for a couple of years now to manage 3 different iPhoto libraries. I have coming up on 25,000 photos going back to 96 with my first digital camera. This has become a real pain switching libraries. Also - it limits how I can distribute the content (i.e. AppleTV/iTunes will only look at one library) I seperated them a while back because iPhoto wasn't stable enough to handle too many pictures in a single library without being prone to crashes.
I know nobody really knows if iPhoto 8 will help in this area (as I do plan to soon get a new 24" iMac)... but in general, is there any way to merge all 3 libraries and preserve keywords, film rolls, etc?

Apple deleted (record time!) my post on the merge topic, see the text below. (I omitted a few lines that might have pushed Apple's hypervigilant complaint monitoring team over the line, the full text is on "Gordon's Tech".
I spent some time over lunch with iPhoto 7. It's a good improvement and well worth what I paid to buy a copy. There is NO SUPPORT for library merging, but the .Mac support is better. You may be able to publish albums to .Mac and then import at the album level. Obviously, this is not satisfactory.
In my post below I comment on iPhoto Library Manager, an app I greatly appreciate and admire but which does not meet my requirements completely. I think Apple's unofficial answer is "buy Aperture", but you should know Aperture does not allow you to edit date metadata (so you can't sort scans, for example).
You're traveling with your MacBook. Organizing photos, adding metadata, creating albums, slideshows, etc. You get home. You want to import your travel library to the main library, preserving ALL the versions and metadata.
You have just married the Mac Geek of your dreams. You need to merge Libraries into the shared folder (which can't be shared over a network, but let's just ignore that). How do you do that?
You created and used separate Libraries back with iPhoto bogged down at 2000 images. Now you want to combine them, preserving version relationships, album relationships, descriptions, titles, keywords, roll information, photo books, slideshows, etc, etc.
Yes, I know about iPhoto Library Manager. I license and use it. It does miracles with Apple's limited merge support, but some metadata is lost. I also had so many issues with earlier version merges that, even though I use it all the time, I'm gun-shy. Sorry, merging Libraries is very complex. It's hard to believe that anyone but Apple can do it safely.
iLife 2008 (iPhoto 7) is the fourth release in a row to disappoint those of us asking for Library management....

  • Freeze frame glitch- text tracking?

OK, I have made some custom title generators in Motion, but sometimes I need to extend them (without extending the animation speed on the front end) so I add a freeze frame.  After upgrading to 10.1.1, I've noticed that sometimes- not every time- the freeze frame renders the text with squished tracking.  The generator renders and displays fine, but once it hits the freeze frame, it's squished.
    Any ideas/thoughts?

You are correct. You would turn OFF Roll, so that you have a still Title. Then in Effects Control Panel, you would Keyframe the fixed Effect>Motion>Position over time. Let's say that you wish the Title to "roll" from offscreen below. Set the initial Keyframe to that Position, and then decide when you want the Title to pause. Set another Keyframe to that that point on the mini-Timeline, and alter the Position to that desired. Decide how long you want it to "hold," and then set another Keyframe there, leaving the Position alone. Then, go to the end of the Title and set one last Keyframe on that last Frame. Alter the Position to be off-screen at the top. Done.
You can "smooth out" the motion, by adding Bezier controls to each Keyframe. Choices like Ease-Out, and Ease-In will probably work fine. Rt-click the first Keyframe and choose Ease-Out. Go to the next Keyframe (the initial part of the "hold") and Rt-click, choosing Ease-In. Go to the next Keyframe (the end of your "hold"), Rt-click and choose Ease-Out. You probably do not need the Ease-In for that last Keyframe, but if you find that that last "move" is not smooth enough for you, just Rt-click and choose Ease-In.
The little "arrows" in the Keyframe Header will allow you to easily step forward and backward, from Keyframe to Keyframe.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - before you do the Keyframes, set the Duration for the whole Title first, or you will probably need to move your Keyframes about.

  • Videos list on ipod touch

on my old ipod video, movies were listed nice.. if the title of the movie wasn't fit to the width of the screen, the title would roll and let you see the complete title line. on my new ipod touch i can see a screenshot and a very very short text line on the right of the screenshot so basically i never really know exactly what video i'm about to click..
.. is there any way to rearrange the way the movie list is shown?

yes it is dumb, but that's the ipod feature NOT you. lack of scrolling titles is one of the few bad things about the ipod touch

  • Bizzare behavior-Settings remain after app deletions

My problem seemed to begin a few weeks ago when the SuperDuper script wouldn’t run overnight. After contacting them, I ran Cocktail, deleting logs, caches, repairing permissions, and rebuilding the launch services database. Then I uninstalled recent apps: HyperDock, TotalFinder, and a haxie, WindowShade X.
More or less took care of that problem, but now a new and bizarre problem has sprung up. Despite deleting WindowShade (and the others using CleanApp), its behaviors remained. For example double-clicking a title bar rolls it up, which only WS can do. I tried setting my Logitech Control Center(yes, I know-it s#*ks) settings for the diNovo Mac Edition keyboard to use standard function keys, but pressing a function key opens the app I assigned in LCC prior to that.
I have a feeling that the problem has something to do with LCC, as recently the Logitech Revolution MX wireless mouse only works when the receiver dongle is plugged into ONE USB port only-top port on the front of my Mac Pro. Tried it with a spare mouse and receiver, and get the same behavior.
Is there anything short of a complete erase/reinstall of 10.6/update that I have overlooked? If I have to go that route is there anything I can migrate over that is safe other than network settings and applications. I’m afraid the problem is in my User folder and am leery of that. Thanks for any advice.
By the way, I do have a Time Machine disk, but have had poor luck when trying to roll back something in /Users/Library in the past.

After posting I did exactly that. Downloaded the installer for both (I had uninstalled APE earlier) then ran uninstall even though both were gone from SysPrefs. Solved both the WS and LCC problems. I'll certainly miss it. Thanks for the suggestion in case I hadn't come across it.
