Title and action borders...

Hello - I have noticed that when I keep photos within the 'action safe' border, they appear to go 'off the screen' on my tv, when I connect the computer, and view the project. Is this because of the size of my tv - not sure of the exact measurements, but it is on the 'small side'... But, as I said, I do keep within the borders, so will it be dependent on what someone else's tv will be like, to see if they will be able to view the entire photo? This is especially prevalent when I add borders to the photos - I would like it if all 4 sides can be seen, rather than having one side cut off - ok, thanks so much!

That's exactly why I view final output on a small tube tv. My set seems to take me to just inside action safe. Rule of thumb...if you can see and hear it on a bad set you're probably okay overall. You should always output to a monitor anyway so you know what your final product is likely to be.
Remember as well that all sets vary. Even inside of a editing suite monitors vary. That's why waveform/vector scopes are used. These tell you true video, black and chroma levels rather than trusting your eye.
It used to drive me crazy when client said, "I like the color "red" on the right hand monitor. Can I have that color red?" So I said that yes of course they could. No use explaining that all monitors vary.

Does Adobe Premiere have the Safe Title and Action Areas set up ...backwards? (i.e screwy)
I am resetting the areas according to latest Broadcast specs ( New Zealand) issued by BC Authority. '2012 Commercial Production Standard'

So one reads that as: area covering 80% width and 93% height (and respectively area covering 65% width and 90% height)
(Area is the operative word as in Safe Area)
If these figures are entered into Premiere Project Set up..they display small areas. Inverse size.
Not areas proportional to the figures describingthe area. eg 80, 90 and 93% are certainly closer to 100% ( the whole area)
So what gives here?
FWIW: In the past I have used the 20, 20 and 10, 10 set up ..without actually thinking why it was done this way!
Out of interest : anyone got access to these specs for BBC or U.S stations. How are they described?

Title and Action Safe guides

Hi,
I am finally at the stage where we are going to start shooting some footage and testing our compositions on our project. My next big step, is to get my head around Action/Title safe areas. We are shooting for 16:9 widescreen, HD TV, but am i supposed to take the smaller standard TV screens into account? Keeping in mind that I am very new at this, I am getting confused between the zones and guides on AE. I see the centre-cut guides (for the smaller TV screens I guess) and then the normal guides for widescreen. If I compose all my shots for the standard TV screen, that means I will need to make up a lot of wasted space around them for the widescreen TV.
Once again, I know this is an AE forum, but I am using the excuse that AE has the guides, and thats what I am trying to understand! :-)
Any suggestions would be appreciated, or even some links to external forums or sites?

Thank you for the reply.
Ill aim for the widescreen safety as you suggest. I have taken several shots of the characters now, using different lighting styles etc. Next week will be dedicated to Keylight. I am quite familiar with it, but want to get really really deeply involved. I am going to spend some time with multi passes and different tests.
Soon, (hopefully) I will be able to tell you all where to check out our work! :-)

Window title and borders for Render Window (3D Picture Control)

Hi all,
some more questions on the 3D picture control.
I use the external render window, because in the solarsystem.vi demo, the 3d picture control appears to be very slow. The render window is much faster there. (I haven't tried it for my application though.)
I'd like to display a full screen 3D animation. How the hell do I get rid of the window title bar (I can set it to empty, but the bar itself remains), and the borders of the render window?

The update speed of the solarsystem example is 2 ms (in the timeout event). This would result in 500 updates per second, witch is totally redundant. Put it on 33 ms, and you'll still get smooth updates, and much better performance! No monitor will update 500 times a second, and your eye can only see 25-30 frames per second anyway.
With this, you could probably use the normal 3d control (indicator actually). The window doesn't have any way to remove the title bar.
(You can do some things with window API's, but removing the titlebar is only possible by creating a new class, a new window, and then it would be impossible to tell LabVIEW to use this window...)
If you'd make the render window full screen, how would you close your application? There is no way (or I'm missing it) to get events back from the render window.

Title Safe Area and Action Safe Area

I understand the recomandations about the Title Safe Area and Action Safe Area (PDF p215).
I am wondering if this is still acurate today, considering many people in the U.S have widescreen TVs. I`m just wondering if anybody still have a TV that only shows the Title safe area?
Also, on a Widescreen TV, is there any chance to have only the Action safe area?

I very much doubt anyone has a TV that only displays title safe area and nothing outside of it... the Title Safe area is a percentage reduction from the outer edge of the image. If a TV is showing in the 4:3 aspect ratio, any image will be sized appropriately to fit, and the title safe will be proportional... 10% in from the outer edge.
The title safe area originally existed to allow for text to be showing without too much distortion on a curved TV screen. The Action safe area simply extended beyond this to the edge of the screen, and is 5% in from the edge of the footage.
In the days of CRT sets, the glass screen has a plastic bezel which masks the very edge of the screen, meaning the image disappears neatly behind it. Action safe areas are just those that will appear beyond the bezel and be visible, but which might distort sightly due to the curvature of the glass.
On a computer screen the entire image is seen regardless, as the geometry of the screen is adjusted to appear within the entire display, and so AS and TS areas don't really apply.
Whether or not your screen is widescreen doesn't matter, it's all about pixel aspect ratios. The image is displayed proportionately, and the visible areas are the same from screen to screen. When setting up photoshop images with guides to show AS and TS, you'll find that the TV image is 720px wide, and the guides are set at 36px from the left and right for the AS, and 72px in for the TS. The vertical size differs between NTSC and PAL, and thus the guides are positioned differently, but still 5 and 10% respectively.

Import of XML file failed in portal using XML Content and Action

I am trying to import the simple XML file which is just creating the folder in the PORTAL_CONTENT using XML CONTENT AND ACTIONS which is one way of creating the portal content. GO TO SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION > TRANSPORT > XML CONTENT AND ACTIONS > IMPORT.
The reason for using this import tool is to upload the backend Business roles, which is not not working on our corporate portal. To test the import functionality I used the following xml file (I got this XML file by exporting the test folder in the portal using the same tool)

IPhoto "titles" and "comments"

Hey,
I am making a slideshow in iDVD with a lot of pictures that im importing from iPhoto. My problem is that the names of the pictures (when I show "titles and comments") are too large and cover important parts of the image. I also noticed that the "comments" was smaller than the "titles". So is there a way for Automater to replace all the "comment" sections with what is in the "title" section for all my pictures in iPhoto? I have never used Automater so any help would be great.

Corrupted Links & Missing Rollovers and Actions

I don't know what the hell just happened... I've been working on this page all damn day and I must've toggled something by accident because all of a sudden the page has lost all rollovers, links and actions. I mean, they're GONE. And I can't seem to bring them back. Sometimes I'll restart and everything will be there, although it still won't work in the Live Render Window, and the next time there won't be anything but blank palettes where the info should be. I tried opening the html page in a browser and it won't work there either.
Anybody have any idea what I did? The code seems to be there and all the rest of my pages work fine. I'm at my wits end and have basically lost the last 12 hours of work. I'm hoping I accidentally keyed some obscure toggle and this can be easily rectified. Otherwise... ugh.
Any and all suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

They're attached clicks on images.

Not that I'm aware of. But who knows, maybe I accidentally typed a key combination that screwed me.

Western Digital inform me that it isn't their external hard drive problem and suggest that it is an Apple software problem ?

I am not quite ready to restore the full iphoto library , as I have days of work re - imputting titles,descriptions and enhancement . I hope that your suggestion works , as I use my Macbook basically to work with digital photography. Through time , I will need to delete my library to recover more disc space and I would hate to have to spend more time re - imputting titles and descriptions all over again .

Report generation toolkit: Avoid a separation of title and image at pagebreak in a work document.

I want to generate a report with the report generation toolkit in LV7.1.
In that report I use several report VIs to append text, titles and frontpanel images to a word document template (Office 2003). That works fine.
Depending on the size and text of my generated report, I have sometimes a problem with pagebreaks: A image is set to a new page if there is not enough space to place it on the old one. That’s ok. The text/title above the image is still on the old page. That's right, but I don’t want this. I know in Word you can use the paragraph formatting options to avoid a separation. But with the corresponding VI from the toolkit (word format paragraph (adv)) it seems not to work. With this VI you should have access to "indents and spacing" and to "line and page breaks". I always and only can change the "indents and spacing". En- or Disabling line or page breaks with this VI does not work, nothing changes in a word document.
Has anyone some suggestions or other solutions?

Thanks for your input. You are right, that works and could be an alternative.
In the meantime I found a solution with creating my own activex vi instead of that from the toolkit as you can see in the attached image. Maybe this could help someone with similar problems...

How do I get the book title and author to appear on all pages?

I'm trying to create a new layout, and I can't quite figure out some of the auto-text boxes.
I'd like the book title, and author to appear at the top of the pages.
Also, I'd like the chapter title to be at the top of the page for the subsequent chapter pages, but not in the same size as the chapter title at the beginning of the chapter.
I've tried copying the chapter text box in layouts, then applying it to the chapter pages. However, when I reformat the copied box for text size and orientation, the reformat effects all instances of that text box. Grr.
(I know this all sounds like too much text and garbage on each page, but it's for an instructional piece that people will likely print a page or two at a time)

Have you looked at the Layout Section.
If it is not visible pull down the handle and the master pages are there down the list for you to add and change.
Just first duplicate any page that you may want to change and then add the name and author titles to that page and press "APPLY"

Report Title and Text Area issue when exported to pdf using Viewer

Hi there,
We are using OracleBI Discoverer Version 10.1.2.55.26
We have reports that displays Report title containing the following
- Report Title
- Runt Date and Time
- Page No
And text area which displays 'Last Page'
Following properties are set at the worksheet level using page setup
Report Title --> 'Print on every Page'
Text Area --> 'Print on last page'
The report when exported to PDF using Discoverer plus works fine and displays report title and text area as defeined.
But when we try to export the same report to pdf from Discoverer viewer, it displays
- Report title on first page only.
- text area on all pages
All our users accesses report using discoverer viewer so we cannot open discoverer plus to them.
Is there a solution which will enable us to export the report in pdf using discoverer viewer and displays the same output as discoverer plus.
Please let me know... If you have any questions then please feel free to ask.

Well, if typographic objects are colour managed, the colour appearance is dependent on the source ICC profile that describes the colourants in the typographic objects and the destination ICC profile that describes the colours the display is able to form and the RBC colourant combinations that will form those colours.
In general, typographic objects should have special treatment, since the expectation is not that typographic objects should be colour managed, but that typographic objects should simple be set to the maximum density of dark. On a display, that is R=0 G=0 B=0 and on a seperations device (a lithographic press) that is C=0 M=0 Y=0 K=100.
If for some reason typographic objects are colour managed, and if the ICC profiles for the displays are off by half a mile or more in relation to the actual state of the display system, then the colours will not be the same. On the other hand, if those displays are calibrated and characterized, then the colourants will be converted to form the same colours on the displays.

Generally you don't use prefix (++c) operators in you for loop. Use postfix (c++).
Prefix means that it will increment the variable before the loop body is executed. Postfix will cause it to increment after.
