i have the same problem and Sun doesn't seem to have an answer to this question. The DnD works in Mac OS, but not on Window 2000/XP.

Please understand I am a frustrated customer like you, , but the availability of movies that have been shown before is dependant on licencing from the rights owners. Sky quite rightly have to pay the film studios for the ability to show to Sky's customers. As I understand it they purchase the right for a period of time, hence when the right expires then it has to be removed. The costing of the movies does reflect on the anticipated popularity of the programme, hence an older less popular movie might seem expensive but if not many people watch and pay that would be right. The apparent silliness of having movies in the store and on demand, allows those people who do not have a movie subscription to rent the movie on a one off basis. I agree that Sky seem to be licencing some programmes for shorter periods and it really upsets me when movies appear in buy and keep but not available to rent only. I recently queried Sky about Fortitude being available in OnDemand until 2022!, then of course found out that Sky owns the rights of the series. I can only say be careful if you are a movies subscriber and wish to watch a movie, not to select the Sky Store version if it is available in the Movies on Demand section. I recently wanted to watch a film that I found in Sky store at a cost, and just to be sure I searched for it and found it was to be shown on Channel 4 in a few days. I don't think we'll ever understand how such decision are made as to how long they licence movies for and how the charging model works with the film studios. Logically you would think that a smallish fee to have available indefinately and to pay the studio fee based on the number of rentals would be better, but that might be difficult to administer and Sky would have to have extra server storage fees, which they outsource. Drag and save images onto desktop

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed that when they drag an image from the internet to save onto the desktop, it will automatically save it in grid and you're not able to save it away from the other icons which usually line up from the right-hand side? Before a recent re-install at the end of Oct '09, I was able to save the images anywhere on the desktop in order to find them more easily than having them bunched in with the already organized icons. My folder settings for desktop do not have snap to grid or keep arranged checked.

Performance tip: Keep the Desktop clutter-free (empty, if possible)
Mac OS X's Desktop is the de facto location for downloaded files, and for many users, in-progress works that will either be organized later or deleted altogether. The desktop can also be gluttonous, however, becoming a catch-all for files that linger indefinitely.
Unfortunately - aside from the effect of disarray it creates - keeping dozens or hundreds of files on the Desktop can significantly degrade performance. Not necessarily because the system is sluggish with regard to rendering the icons on the desktop and storing them in memory persistently (which may be true in some cases), but more likely because keeping an excessive number of items on the Desktop can cause the windowserver process to generate reams of logfiles, which obviously draws resources away from other system tasks. Each of your icons on your desktop is stored as a window in the window server, not as an alias. The more you have stored, the more strain it puts on the window server. Check your desktop for unnecessary icons and clear them out.
Keeping as few items as possible on the Desktop can prove a surprisingly effective performance boon. Even creating a single folder on your Desktop and placing all current and future clutter inside, then logging out and back in can provide an immediately noticeable speed boost, particularly for the Finder.
And it is why Apple invented 'Stacks' for Leopard.

Turns out this was down to the fact that I re-booted with my external USB connected drive plugged in.
It's an HDD that I took out of my MBP when I upgraded to and SSD and now use as a T.Machine drive. I guess the partitions are still on there

Report generation toolkit: Avoid a separation of title and image at pagebreak in a work document.

I want to generate a report with the report generation toolkit in LV7.1.
In that report I use several report VIs to append text, titles and frontpanel images to a word document template (Office 2003). That works fine.
Depending on the size and text of my generated report, I have sometimes a problem with pagebreaks: A image is set to a new page if there is not enough space to place it on the old one. That’s ok. The text/title above the image is still on the old page. That's right, but I don’t want this. I know in Word you can use the paragraph formatting options to avoid a separation. But with the corresponding VI from the toolkit (word format paragraph (adv)) it seems not to work. With this VI you should have access to "indents and spacing" and to "line and page breaks". I always and only can change the "indents and spacing". En- or Disabling line or page breaks with this VI does not work, nothing changes in a word document.
Has anyone some suggestions or other solutions?

Thanks for your input. You are right, that works and could be an alternative.
In the meantime I found a solution with creating my own activex vi instead of that from the toolkit as you can see in the attached image. Maybe this could help someone with similar problems...

Title and image at the beginning of video pixelated

Am a bit puzzelled about a sudden pixelation of titles and still images at the beginning of a video. I'm working on a small video and would like to start it with a company logo (PSD file) and some simple text (made in FCP with the 'Text' effect). Before rendering everything looks good, but after rendering, the very first frame of the video (the title) becomes very pixelated. I've done this many times before and never had any issues, so really don't know what's going on.
I read about the bug in FCP 7.02 with using still images at the beginning of a sequence (and then renaming all clips) - does this has something to do with it?

Hi there,
All elements in EA always appear over the entire timeline...unless you tell them not to do so. Try using Display keyframes to show and hide elements over time.
You can also use Opacity keyframes in the same way, or even position the image outside of the Stage bounds, if you prefer to do it one of those ways.

Try this: select one of the photos that are showing the wrong title and use the Photos ➙ Batch Change ➙ Title to File Name menu option.
See if that will put the name that you want under the thumbnail.

I'm wanting to drag images from the internet into a folder on my desktop or hard drive. I am used to being able to drag just about any image from any website off the web and into a folder on my old mac, but since I got my laptop, I've noticed I cannot do that. Is it a preference?

Sounds like you may need to repair the Disk Permissions on your drive where your images are stored.

I am experiencing Mavericks failing to copy subdirectories from usb sticks, I am backing up game saves from a console. Both sticks I use are fine, same permissions of course since the console wrote the files. Sometimes it copies, sometimes it doesn't. It seems to be related to the mounting process.
Thank God Apple hasn't (yet) broken bash.

Strange Files Appear on Desktop and I Have No Idea Why or What They Do.

Hello all,
For the past long while strange '.part' and '.pdf' files started appearing on my desktop and I have no idea why, how, or what they do/are for!
The files are just random strings of letters and numbers sometimes ending in .pdf, sometimes .part, sometimes both. Here is an example:
J0f0IS2p.jpg.part
qtz0MxdS.ai.part
_Z8WxpbN.pdf.part
My uniformed guess thinks it has something to do with Firefox and when I download something. I recently downloaded an Adobe Illustrator file from my email, and 'qtz0MxdS.ai.part' appeared on my desktop. it has an '.ai' in it. The '.pdf' files, I think, appear when I download .pdfs using Firefox.
Does anyone know why this happens and how I can stop it? I dont think/hope its not a serious issue or bug but it does get tedious deleting all these weird files. Thanks for your time!!

They occur when a Web-browser like firefox is the downloading a file. Some Web browsers download files with a different name than change to the real name when the download completes. having these funny names on your desktop means that the download did not complete or the download is presently occurring.
In firefox as you can press: command-j to see downloaded manager
