Title Bar Graphics Disappear

Sometimes at random, elements of the title bar (the portion of the application window where the title is along with the minimize, maximize buttons are) will disappear. You are unable to view them until you roll over them and even the background turns white... like the graphics are getting corrupt. I see it a lot with the System Preferences panel.

i've got a similar issue i think, what happens is for some reason, at some point, the dock changes 'texture' and becomes transparent, as in the white surface of it turns black reflecting the icons on it more brightly and the icon title becomes corrupt, worse still, my stacks show only the contour of the files and the titles are unreadable, although noting else seems to be affected, this is annoying.

Windows 8 Title Bar does not reappear

Sounds like you need to calibrate your pointer device. FWIW I don't see one for my mouse. But it does have a diagnostic called mousinfo.exe which could show if I needed something like that. That is a tool that MS provide in both their IntelliPoint
and Mouse&Keyboard software. For example, relevant to your example, when the pointer is hovering at the top Y Position: -1 is shown. I suspect that that would be the only value which you could use to start from for the function that you want
to use. Heh. In fact, using Mousekeys while monitoring with mousinfo.exe I found I was able to raise the Title bar at as low as 3. YMMV. If you have a real numeric keypad (or a hardware equivalent) you could try using Mousekeys instead
of whatever mouse you are using too.
As for the other point about the pointer icon changing to a hand, I think that is old functionality. Just drag down as soon as the title bar appears. E.g. consider the title bar as providing the same usability signal that the appearance of the
hand had.

Why did the browser window's title bar, menu, minimize, maximize, and close buttons all disappear, and how do I get them back?

I am literally stuck in Firefox. Suddenly the window changed to full screen mode, and the title bar and Firefox menu disappeared, along with the close, minimize, and maximize buttons. All I can access are the menu bar and open browser tabs.
I can't even access my dock (on Mac), which usually pops up when I mouse over the bottom of the screen.
So, the only way it seems I can get out of Firefox is to shut down my computer by pressing the power button. Unless there is some keyboard shortcut. I tried command-11 but that just switched between open my browser tabs.
FYI i have no idea what Ubuntu is and don't think I'm using it (that name seems to pop up when I google this problem)
Oh yeah, also I'm using Firefox 3.6.2 because my elderly Mac is running on OSX 10.4.11. Have never had any problems with it before.

iTunes purchases the rights to sell a movie, but those are for a time limit. If the right expires and apple doesn't renew, the movie is no longer available for download and must be saved in your library. I suggest backing up your movies ASAP. Check the store for this movie, perhaps it is still available.

The Mac has never needed "Full Screen". It has done multiple screen Extended Desktop since 1987.
Full screen is an iPhone feature, carried into this verion with the mult-touch gestures and other so-called "unifying" features.

Firefox title bar disappears

Your Firefox might be stuck in full screen mode. You can use the F11 function key to switch between full screen and normal display modes. If you do not have an F11 key, sliding the mouse pointer to the top of the screen and right-clicking should display a short menu to exit full screen mode.

If you went to Full screen mode then it's hidden at the top. Move your cursor to the top of the screen and it will appear. You can click the arrows on the very right to exit full screen mode.

I'm doing an aplication with Flash CS4, using adobe air in as3. I have some frames, and in the frame 25 there's a stop, when user clicks a button, go ahead to frame 27 and stage resize the whole screen, just like a FULL_SCREEN, and then I load an pdf. I can't use FULL_SCREEN or FULL_SCREEN_INTERACTIVE property, because doesn't works the pdf loaded (even adobe help say it), so I would like to simulate it. The application it will be use in windows ( I am not sure if XP, vista, but windows). So when resize the stage, to load pdf, then and ONLY then, I want the title bar disappears, just to simulate full_screen.
How can I do, to make in a desktop application that ?

Open the Air Application descriptor file(eg: airproject-app.xml) for your application and
uncomment the <systemChrome></systemChrome> tag.
Set it to none like:
<systemChrome>none</systemChrome>
It will work.

Losing Title Bar when changing Look and Feel on the fly

I have an option in my Swing app for the user to change the Look & Feel on the fly by selecting from a radio button list. The look and feel is changed when the user make the selection, however the Windows Title Bar disappears. Any ideas what I'm missing?

You are disposing the view. My guess is that this is your problem. Try creating a new one instead of just showing the old disposed one

Can't drag windows around using the title bar-CS4

I just upgraded to CS4 at work last week and I'm already regretting it. Firstly, using two monitors, CS4 must like my graphics card becasue as soon as I open a document and it begins to render the window, the main monitor loses it's signal and cuts off. So I have to hard shut down and make my 2nd monitor the main one, open CS4 and a file on that monitor, then make it the 2nd monitor and pass it over to my real first monitor with a file open and make that monitor the main one again. Added to that, randomly, files will open as tabs even though I have the option unchecked in prefs. I hate tabs, I want my windows floating. But I digress.
My current issue is the file windows are not movable using the title bar. I can expand/contract every side grabbing the edge, but clicking, holding and dragging any of the title bar is ineffective. I can drag to tab to undock it, but once floating, the title bar is non-funtional for grabbing. I can also double click on it to tab, just not to drag.
I use a mac at home and thankfully Adobe hasn't forced the edge to edge palette background on that platform. On the mac we get a 'classic view' or something that does away with the desktop blocking grey window background. Seriously, I can't stand the full screen look. Why can't windows have that option to have just the menu bar, palettes and file windows allowing the desktop to be visible? /rant

A new video card is often a good idea if yours is over 2 years old. Even the modern "budget" (e.g., ~$100) cards are hugely powerful nowadays.

Black line under title bar in AIR-App

Hi, does anyone know how to remove that black line under the title bar
which is shown in a MAC-Air Application?
I know I can solve this problem by making the whole app transparent. But that also means that
I have to do the whole skinning by hand, thats something I want to avoid. ;-)

I ended up re installing Mavericks after the last update (10.9.1) from a bootble USB stick. The problem appears to have gone away, so maybe my original upgrade of Mavericks caused the problem???
I downloaded Mavericks again from the app store. When it had finished downloading (approx 5Gb) I exited the installer and created a bootable USB (needs to be 8GB minimum). Then booted from USB and ran the Mavericks installer. As I said problem seems to have disappeared......
I used this article http://www.macworld.com/article/2056561/how-to-make-a-bootable-mavericks-install -drive.html and used the method in Option 1 in the article to create the drive. A Synopsis of the steps are:
Format the USB using Disk Utility to Mac OS Extended with GUID partition.
Open Terminal and paste the following command press Return and enter admin password when prompted
sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app --nointeraction
It takes a while to create and copy the installer. (Could be up to 30 mins)
Finally reboot and hold down Option key while computer boots then select the USB drive.

In the program which calls ALV using REUSE_ALV_LIST_DISPLAY,
I have to add a new button.
I saw the demo program BCALV_GRID_08, which is written using ABAP-Controls.
In that example, the button is added using TOOLBAR event of cl_gui_alv_grid.
Could you help me to implement the same logic using REUSE_ALV_LIST_DISPLAY parameters.
you should copy the 'STANDARD' GUI status from program SAPLKKBL using transaction SE90 >Programming SubObjects> Gui Status.
Execute this transaction to get to next screen. select status using checkbox. click on GUI Status --> Copy.
Enter your Z program name and the name you what for this status - you can keep it as 'STANDARD' to be simple.
Then you can edit the new status to add or delete buttons. This will also bring in the standard SAP ALV functionality such as sorting/subtotaling etc...
When you call 'REUSE_ALV_GRID_DISPLAY' make sure you pass it the new status name.

I just tried the same procedure ,but my entire application toolbar disappeared and a lock icon appears next to the application toolbar in my copied pf-status.
Could you advice what might have gone wrong ?
As identified with the FM's help you can do the following.
1). Using SE80 (I think) you can copy a GUI status from one program to another. It mentions which one in the FM's help.
2). Create a form named like so:

Off-screen title bar and menu

I have a dual monitor setup, where the monitors have different resolution. I usually open documents on the larger screen, but if I open a second document it opens on the smaller screen with title bar and main menu off-screen. Is it any way I can anchor new windows to the top of the screen instead of the bottom?

It isn't displayed, i.e. it disappears. Remember this is a MS app and appears to follow the semantics of modal dialogues in Windows, i.e. they aren't "real" windows. They are a PITA in Windows as it's possible to hide them with another window and they are a pain to find - they don't appear in window lists and you can't Alt-TAB to them.
oh, yes, I forgot about that. I know that MS office Spaces integration was supposed to be fixed in Snow Leopard but I guess that didn't happen with MSN messenger. that's probably also the reason those apple scripts you tried didn't work.
Looking at this from a different angle, where are window positions likely to be saved as the position is retained across reboots. Is it the OS that handles this, or the app itself?
the window positions of an application are stored in the preference file of that application in /users/username/library/preferences. if you quit an application, delete its preference file and relaunch it then it should display on the default screen with default values. however, some apps (like Mail) keep important data in their preference files and deleting them will wipe that data.
Thanks. As you said about Mail, MSN Messenger stores all its data in their, e.g. account details, and the plist file is binary, but a quick Google revealed plutil so I converted it to XML, edited it in vi, and converted back to binary +et voilà+ it worked!!
The window position was 0, -56 so I just changed it to 0, 56
that will of course, do it.

Leaving title bar and menu

Hi there,
I have a problem with acrobat reader since XI 11.xx.... If i manipulate acrobat's window (full screen, sized etc). I have all the time je same result, title bar and menu bar are not displayed correctly.
Someone already have this graphical glich ?
I must click on another application to get a correct window...
So what can i do for this ?!
Also, CustWiz for acrobat reader will be proposed when ?!

What's causing this window title bar weirdness?

Lately on my mid-2010 17" MBP (10.6.4) some of my window's title bars are exhibiting a graphical glitch that goes away if I move the window or move the focus, etc.
It happens in various apps (Finder, Firefox, etc)
Any ideas?

If you have any third party plugins installed, that could be the problem when using Firefox. Launch Firefox. From the Firefox Menu Bar click Firefox / Preferences then select the General tab.
Click: Manage Add-ons
As for you Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences and move the com.apple.finder.plist file to the Trash.
Restart your Mac.
