Title Crawl Direction with Boris 3D

I must be going crazy! How do I change the direction so that I can make the text crawl from top to bottom or bottom to top (a vertical crawl). I know I have done this before several times but I can not seem to be able to change the direction from a horizontal crawl to a vertical crawl.
Thanks.

Use Title Crawl. In the controls there is a popup that sets whether it's a roll or a crawl. The default roll is from bottom to top. In the controls there is a checkbox for reverse direction.

  • Boris title crawl missing after converting with Compressor

Not sure where to put this, since it involves two applications, FCP and Compressor.
I have my credits done as a Boris title crawl (roll). They roll up just like credits in the average movie. They're quite long, spanning almost 4 minutes. Some videos are also included in the open space during this title crawl.
When I convert the files for use with DVD Studio, I used the DVD Best quality 90 minutes presets. It performed that conversion without a hitch.
Looking at the video, everything looks great (it's interlaced, of course). No apparent problems, until the end, where the credits should be scrolling: there's nothing. The videos show up, but only one small section of the credits actually show, and it's cut-off.
I checked the credits again in FCP, and they all fit 100% within the inner title-safe overlays. I've never had any trouble with these rolling credits, except for this problem now.
Any ideas what could cause them to almost completely disappear? most of the time the screen is pure black with absolutely NO text whatsoever. Only three lines show up, and they are cut off on both sides (they extend beyond the view of the screen on both the right and the left).
Many thanks to whoever can assist me.

So you're saying I should just export one as a test? Or, what I was thinking is, export the title crawl as a self-contained movie, then import it back into FCP and then send it to Compressor; can't mess it up like it does if it's a strait-up video, right?
Still can't figure out why Compressor would mess it up like that though. Looks perfect when I export the whole movie as a self-contained movie, which I already did twice. I then burned a sample DVD Using iDVD as a test to see how my video looked on the TV screen. Everything was perfect, except a small amount of flickering in some text (but it wasn't enough to bother me).
Yet, sending it to Compressor completely destroys the title crawl, leaving the intermixed videos untouched. Just plain weird...

  • Perplexing Problem with Boris Title Crawl

This has been an ongoing problem that occurs whenever I use Boris Title Crawl to create very simple titles (i.e lower third, scolling titles, etc). Within the HD sequence, the titles work as intended, but when I down convert the sequence or export the sequence containing the titles to a QT file (whether via QT conversion or compressor) this is where I get the problems. Titles which were once centered become right justified or visa versa. It doesn't occur with all of the titles and there seems to be no recognizable pattern. Sometimes the title will flip back and forth between centered and justified. Sometimes I go back into the sequence and re-edit the title. This may solve it, but then another title will be effected. This is very annoying - because the problem comes about at the the tail end of projects when I'm trying to export files to create DVDs, make deadlines, etc.

Not an answer to your question... I've never used Boris title crawl. But a suggestion that might save you time when trouble shooting... You can just export the title sequence at the end of your show as a test to verify if it's working properly rather than exporting the whole thing only to find you still have an issue.

  • Getting Smooth Text with Boris Title Crawl (Scroll)

Hi, using FCP 5 (Studio) with Boris Title Crawl generator.
It seems to work pretty well, does what it should, renders relatively fast, all that. The only problem is the upward scrolling motion is a little jumpy. Just wondering what things I should be tweaking or some general strategy for getting a smooth text scroll.
The timeline is 10-Bit uncompressed NTSC so there aren't DV text issues here (or so I'd think). I'm trying different fonts, bold and sans-serif. It looks OK, but not broadcast (DVD actually) ready.
    Thanks everybody, much appreciated.

    Thanks Jim, makes sense.
To adjust speed, do you mean basically slightly change the length of the clip? I don't see any other place to alter that.
    Thanks,
    Jason

  • Creating Gutter with Boris Title Crawl

    Hello all!
I'm doing the end credits for a DV project and as we all know Boris is better than Final Cut's text generators. Just wondering if there's a feature in Boris a la the * in FCP's Scrolling Text generator. You know, to line up those gaps. I've fidgeted and can't find it.

  • Can't import .RTF into Boris Title Crawl without crashing

I laid out my titles in Word, saved as an .RTF and then when I clicked import in Boris Title Generator (crawl) and selected the .RTF file, FCP crashes.
I tried opening a new empty project and doing the title there - same problem.
I tried cutting my .RTF into two parts. Same problem.
I've spent hours tonight first trying to layout in columns and better spacing in Boris (leading command made the lines crazy after render), so finally thought to import but is crashing.
    Any help very much appreciated.

What format are you working in? If it's DV, simply create a new file in photoshop using the DV preset and then adjust the vertical dimension to whatever is appropriate. Post back if you want, and I'll look at some of the crawls I've done and see what they're dimensions are.
If you want to send me your email address (my email is in my profile) I'll try and put together a small project with a end crawl or two from some recent projects, along with the photoshop files.
The trick is to create a separate sequence for the end crawl with the field dominance set to none. You animate the title crawl in this sequence and then render out a selfcontained qt and bring it in to your complete sequence.

  • Titles created in Boris title crawl disappear after render

I build a title roll in Boris Title Crawl for a weekly TV show that I edit in HDV 1080i60 (that is how I get the footage) that airs on Dish Network and DirecTV. I build the end credits in Boris Title Crawl using the "Roll" animation style. The roll will appear in the perfect position on the screen. However, sometimes over time and subsequent rendering, the titles will disappear completely from the screen, and I believe they are being positioned far off to the side outside of the viewable area. The wireframe for the roll remains in the correct position, it just appears empty. If I re-open Boris Title Crawl and then click "apply" again, the mispositioning is corrected, at least for a while. If I try to export using quicktime conversion to another format (Quicktime Movie with H.264 compression), the roll might disappear again, and the movie will export without the roll. This has only been happening since upgrading to FCP 7, I don't recall it every happening with FCP 6. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I don't use Boris regularly, but when I have, I never encountered this, and I doubt it's related to upgrading to 7. If I understand correctly what you're describing, the changes could be caused by any number of things – like whatever cutting took place on your TL "over time and subsequent rendering" causing re-renders.
How many v tracks do you have and is the crawl on a separate track? Consider exporting the credits clip as a QT movie and reimport it.
And somewhat off topic, typically I get better (and far more predictable) results by exporting my sequence as a QTMovie (current settings) and do all encoding (e.g., H.264) in Compressor.
    Good luck.

  • Boris Title Crawl

    Hi all,
did some looking around and couldn't find anything this specific.
I am able to get the "Text window" when using the Boris Title 3D. But when I go to use the Boris Title Crawl and click on the "banner" for the Text window, nothing happens. I do get a new menu for Title Crawl but no real working options. I am not able to use it at all.
Has anyone else seen this problem?
    Thanks!

Could it be a corrupt font?
    To validate fonts:
Open Font Book and select one or more installed fonts to check.
    Choose File > Validate Font.
In the Font Validation window, review the fonts listed for warnings or errors. Use the pop-up menu to display warnings and errors separately, if necessary.
For fonts with warnings or errors, click the disclosure triangle next to the font to see which validation rules show errors.
To remove a corrupted font, click the checkbox next to the font. Make sure fonts you want to keep are not checked. Then click the Remove Checked button.

  • Title crawl with videos/images in FCE

    Hello.
I would like to do a crawl of text credits with small videos or still images crawling inline or beside the text. Is this possible with FCE, specifically with the Boris Title Crawl generator? If so, how do I do it?
    Cheers,
    Stephen

Do the text crawl first .. estimate how long you want it to be, including the clips/still you need to include. Leave spaces in the crawl when you type it out. Drop that onto V1
On V2 place your clips/still. Match them up to the timing of your crawl. Use motions keyframes to "animate" the clips/stills to move along with the crawl.
This is doable but will take some pre-planning on your part

  • Boris Title Crawl question

I am using the title crawl but would like to hold he last line on the screen.
does anyone know how to set the parameters to hold? i fiddled around with the motion tab but nothing i am doing is changing anything. the credits are rolling from beginning to end. Anyway to stop it in the middle? thanks.

FWIW, I create a file in photoshop and then simply use the motion tab in fcp to define the motion or do the whole magilla in After EFfects. Taking a quick look at the Boris title crawl, I don't see any obvious way to do this, however, you could freeze the appropriate frame and put the freeze on a higher video track at the appropriate point in the timeline. Not sure if the "stop" would be smooth enough. Maybe there's something in the boris interface I'm missing.

  • Boris Title Crawl Stop at last line

I have the Boris Title Crawl that comes with FCP version 6. I have a "Credits" list at the end of the video with my company at the last line.
TC continues (while the music is playing) until the last line scrolls off of the screen (I am using "Roll")
I cant figure out how to make it stop rolling when the last line is at the middle of the screen.
    Any help would be appreciated

    Hi -
Use the Percent Completion Slider. It is at the bottom of the Controls tab for your Title Crawl/Roll clip. You might need to scroll the controls window down to see it, It is near the bottom of the Controls pane.
Start your roll by placing a keyframe with 0 Percent Complete, then move your playhead to where you want the roll to stop and make another keyframe. Adjust the slider till the line of type is in the position you want. The Roll will stop there. If you control-click on the second keyframe, you can spline the motion so that the roll will smoothly come to a stop.

  • Applying Boris Title Crawl

    Hello,
I'm having a heck of a time getting the scrolling title/credits, that I finally figured out to do in Boris, but am missing a step that's not putting it into the timeline. To start, I clicked on the title icon in the lower right-hand side of the viewer, the chose Boris, Title Crawl, then typed up all my credits. Then it took me to the Controls tab, and then from there, I'm just not getting what's next. Like w/'regular' titles, afterwards, I clicked on the Video Tab, but, nothing was showing up. I also dragged in the blank empty 'box' from the Video Tab, and on the timeline, it is labeled as 'Title Crawl', but again, nothing. Can someone please help, and let me know the step I'm missing? Thank you!

    Hey there,
That's what I thought, that when I set everything up, animation/roll, and switch to my video tab in the Viewer - there's nothing there, even when I scrub back and forth bewteen my in and my outpoint, I do not see my text scrolling up and down. I dragged it into my timeline, scrolled through it, but didn't render it - could that be the issue? I didn't render 'cause I didn't see anything there TO render. And, I thought I would have seen it in the Viewer window. Maybe I'll try rendering, and see what happens...
I did originally try it in the FCP scrolling text generator, and yes, all of the scrolling text is there. But the reason I want to put it into Boris is because it's still 'wavy', despite putting on a de-interlacer, and fixing the whiteness, etc...
I haven't tried the Boris Title 3D tool - only Crawl. Thanks!

  • Title Crawl Alignment

I"m using Boris Title Crawl on a couple of layers. Editing one scene, when I align the text left, all Title crawl in my project will switch to align left. If I center it in one, all text will be centered.
How can I independently treat my titles, using Boris?

Back to back posts where I reitterate Bogie (who's kidding who?). I lost all patience with Boris last year, bought AE 7 pro, spent 1 week doing all the initial tutorials in the 'adobe classroom in a book' and am absolutely hooked. Way easier to learn than I thought. Incidentally, I have lost all interest in motion as well. On top of all that (and speaking of AE), found this to be very interesting...

  • Text or Title Crawl Stutter

I'm doing a project shot mostly with DVCPro HD 720p24 footage and monitoring thru the Matrox MXO. The piece has always looked good since I started it a few months ago, including some graphics I did in Motion and titling using Boris Title 3D. Then today my client asked me to do both a title roll and a title crawl. I did the roll with Boris Title Crawl and it looked great, but the crawl flickers and stutters, even after I stretched it out. I've tried checking and unchecking the 1:2:1 Deflicker box, dropping in the Deflicker filter, applying a slight Channel Blur, but nothiing seems to work. The same goes for when I used FCP's Text Crawl tool. Any suggestions to help me save what used to be a highly polished looking piece? Thanks.
P.S. I'm thinking of doing the Crawl in Motion, but I've never done that before. Any tips on how to make that work will also be appreciated.

Do you wish to add Titles to a live feed, in real-time?
If so, then you will probably looking at a hardware mixing console/switcher, with character generation capabilities.

  • Can Colour Of Glow Be Changed In This Title Crawl?

I can make a title crawl with a glow like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMdH1loEQk0
Is it possible to change the glow from white to another colour?

I've just been doing loads of tests to try and come up with a quick solution, and I tried doing just that, it doesn't work. It's an alpha matte, so changing the colour of the text doesn't register. It only sees Solid - Transparent.
I thought you could next the text clip and add a colour corrector to the nest, but that doesn't work either.
