Title duration

My title shows for a split second at the beginning of the icon and for a split second at the end of the icon. It is supposed to show during the entire duration between the icons.
No matter where I drag the icon the title does not continue to appear in between the icons.
I am missing a minor point in creating the duration time?

Title duration limit of 60 seconds, any workarounds?

Sorry if this is a rehash -- I did a search, and after browsing many pages, did not find an answer.
I am trying to use iMovie '08 as a video titler. My "movie" consists solely of scrolling text with a backround music track. It's quite a lot of text, and the 60 second title duration limit is a real hinderance.
First, is there a way to bump up the duration limit on a single segment?
If not, am I stuck breaking my text up into 60s increments?
Should I be using something else? LiveType? Keynote? Something else?

The problem is, there is no video or photo in the background. I did try as you suggested, and on a video clip, it can be stretched over the entire clip. With just a background photo, it did not stretch. As I have it, it will not go beyond the 60s duration either.
If source of the background is a photo or "captured frame", then yes you are currently limited the 60-second "duration" limit. Question now becomes, "Are you married to the iMovie '08 application or do you simply wish to achieve the effect described?" If the latter and you have QT Pro, then create a movie clip externally using the photo or graphic you want as the background and with the duration you want/need for your "credits" and/or background music. Process is simple but I don't wish to force it on you if your main purpose is to limit your editing to just what can be done from within iMovie '08.

IMovie Title Durations

Hi all,
When I try to put a title into my movie, the time the title is on the screen is about 3-4 second less than the title duration dictates. It's the same for every title, over black or over video. Anyone have this problem, or maybe, a solution?

A titles total duration also includes the amount of time the title spends fading up and fading out.
Are you taking that into account when assessing your tiles duration?

Title duration length

Help please for an iMovie rookie
I'm using iMovie to create a really great looking quiz that I can play to about 300 people on a big screen.
I'm going to use Titles to show the questions on screen but if I need to be able to adjust the duration of the title in the project. I'm double-clicking the blue bar to bring up the Clip Inspector and adjusting the time (currently at 4.0s) to the time that i need but it's not working.
What should I be doing?

is it possible that you have it checked for 4s on all of them and that is why it won't let you change it?

Can't set timer for titles

I am having a problem setting the speed and pause for a title. The title appears for about 2 seconds, but I can't make it stay for any longer period with the speed and pause sliders or by tying in a number in either. Some of the titles have a message that they can be no longer then 3 seconds, others say they are 40 to 50 seconds. If I set the time for the clip to longer it has no effect on the time for a title. I am not new to iMovie but I could still be doing something wrong, although this looks pretty straightforward. Please help.

iMovie's title durations are not accurate as you have noticed.
As a workaround, in the time line you could apply a little speed up or slo mo to the title clip, using the VideoFX effect "slow/fast/reverse". That would speed up the title or slow it down.
Or you could create two title clips side by side, and trim the right hand edge of the left clip and the left hand edge of the right clip so that the two pause portions of the title are joined together. That would extend the pause section.
Or you could do an Edit > Still Frame of the pause, and then splice it into the title to extend the pause.

Thanks. I did try this and it slowed the scroll down. There is still a residual problem which is there is a certain amount of blank screen at the end. I thought slowing the scroll would fill this dead spot. By lengthening the duration of the title, the scroll is now slower, but the black screen has also lengthened.The current dead time is now the final 6 seconds of a 25 second title. Any help on cutting out the dead scrren time. If this were a straight video clip I would simply trim it away. Any way to get the scrolling text to fill more than 80% of the title duration?

Need help timing titles on black video

Here is what I’ve been doing but maybe there is another (better way) to do it… I select Black Video from Edit and it automatically shows up at the beginning of the timeline. Next I select Title from Edit and type the title, intros, etc. The title will play for 4.5 seconds, but the Black Video will play longer or shorter (if I increase or decrease the duration). I would like to be able to increase or decrease the duration of the title within black video. Like have the title, intros, etc., fade in and out on a black background after so many seconds. Thanks for any and all help.

Possibly an easier way to do what you want is to not use the Black Video beneath your Titles. So long as you do not change the background of the Title, you will get black.
Now, in Timeline View Mode, use a small segment of Black Video. Normally, I start all Timelines with 02 sec. of Black Video for a couple of reasons. I create the Black Video (New Icon>Black Video) and then Dbl-click it to open it in the Source Monitor. There, I set the Out Point, so that I get 02 sec. Duration. I drag this to the start of the Timeline. Then, create you Titles as needed, and place them behind the Black Video on the same Video Track. If you wish another Title Duration, than the default, in Edit>Preferences>General, set the Duration for Still Images (note - this is in Frames, so you might need to do a bit of math). Between your Titles, use the Dip-to-Black Transitions. You will get the same effect as having the Titles over Black Video.

Setting Title Length

I can't seem to find a way to set the length of titles. When I create a title it spans the length of the entire clip. Is there currently a way to set length? Also, is it possible to put titles on pictures added to the timeline?

#1 - The Titles are set to the same duration as the video clip.
#2 - Titles can only be applied to video clips, not photos.
Now back to your first question... I found a tricky work around for controlling my Title duration, by adding the same video clip twice.
_ Add the video clip you want to the Timeline
_ Trim the first clip 5 seconds (or as long as you want your Title to be)
_ Add your Title
_ Re-add the same clip to the Timeline and Trim off the first 5 seconds of the clip
_ Double Tap the Transition and select "None"
When you playback, you will see one video clip with a 5 seconds Title.

Preset title length

Is there anyway to preset the title length in iMovie 08?
Every time I add a title it is between 3 and 5 minutes long. Can't I set the length before I add it?

I think you mean 3 to 5 seconds, however:-
It's impractical to set a default title duration for a number of reasons, one being that different titles take different times to read. I'm not sure whether im08 tries to adjust the title duration for a particular situation but adjusting the duration of a title manually once it is added is just something you need to do.

Titles for still photos

Is it possible to add a title to a photo without splitting the photo?

I suspect Hound dog doesn't really mean 'jump' and that he simply means he sees a short clip of the still image without a title, i.e. the title is shorter than still.
Hound Dog if this is the case you need to either make the title duration longer to match the duration of the still or vice-versa.
Personally I would go for making the still match the title duration as I've had occasions where once a title has been rendered it has been a couple of frames more or less than what I set it at.
So this is what I would do:
If I was aiming for a duration of 5 seconds, I would set the still duration to about 5s 5f and apply a title of 5s, if the title rendered at 5s all well and good, if not I'd use what I had and simply trash the portion of the still that had no title rendered onto it.
What you want to avoid is the duration of the title being longer than that of the still, which means it will over-run onto the next still and cause problems.
Hope that is what you wanted to know and if it is that it is clear enough.

Display Length of Titles

The time duration settings for titles are not very accurate. As an example one cannot set a "Sub-Titles"
to appear within a Movie Clip for more than 1 or 2 seconds, regardless of the number of seconds one selects in the timing selector at the bottom of the title window.
Also if a Wide Screen setting is used, the titles are not centered within the clip. I'm wondering if anybody has found a solution to these problems other then switching to iMovie 9 or Final Cut Express?

You are right. iMovie's title duration settings are not very accurate. I can get 4 seconds duration from the Subtitle title when I set it to the maximum 9 seconds. If I use Centered Title, I can freeze it during preview playback, and drag it to the bottom of the screen, thus turning it into a sub title. By doing that I can get about 5 seconds duration for its maximum setting of 8 seconds.
I suggest that you look at the numerous available title plug-ins for iMovie on www.geethree.com. I don't have that program, but I would guess that it has more accurate title duration settings than iMovie.

I'm making title cards, need suggestions re: fonts, etc.

after getting (very) frustrated with iMHD6 title durations, I realized I could make my own white-on-black title cards in PhotoShop by creating a white typ/black background jpeg, which I could drag in to iMHD6, then set whatever length I chose. It works pretty well, except that fonts that look great in PhotoShop get pretty "soft" when they come in to iMHD6. I've been trying the following:
320 x 240, 150ppi
Times New Roman, 10 point
save as jpeg, max quality.
Any suggestions on changing the font, size, resolution, etc?

.. which is about a quarter of the res, NTSC offers.. so iM 'blows-up' your painting and esp. the serifs of your font get blurry .. addtional increased by the high contrats of plain b/w.
720x480 (dpi is of no use for video, doesn't matter 300 or 5...) as res - if your project is 'Standard' not HiDef or widescreen..
avoid, if you use serif fonts, too small font size.. 30-40 pix is perhaps a benchmark => otherwise the tiny serifs at the 'feed' of a typo gets 'sub pixel' = flimmer in video..

Sharepoint (Public facing site) Project Guidance

This is my first sharepoint project (SP 2013) for which I have been asked to develop a public facing internet site.
I do have a basic idea about certain concepts of sharepoint but still I'm looking for a guidance to how to go about with the project.
Requirements :
1. There are many modules. And each module has many courses.
ROLES : Anonymous Users : Read and download
Content Authors : Add, Edit, Delete content.
Approvers : Publish content
Need to implement cross-site publishing model (correct me if I'm wrong).
3. In one of the webpages of the website, there will be a table in the layout displayed as below: in which anonymous users can only read and download
documents. The brochure icons should allow to download document when clicked. Only authors have the authority to do any editing of the content as mentioned earlier.

find any. Or do I have to implement a document library app?
Inder: Try Image content type. But on click it will download image and not whole course material. So my suggestion here is to create a calculated column to pull image and link download.
2. I would be very grateful if you could provide me with some useful links which might have a step by step procedure for implementing site architechture :

b) how to define the user permissions and content approval workflow for approvers
c) Customizing style of the custom list through sharepoint designer

Changing the label of TOC to another language in Captivate 7

I am using Captivate 7 and created a number of English Projects. I have translated these English files to French (by exporting/importing captions), changed the voices, etc, etc. All is now in French in the project except the title of the Table of Contents when enabled. I have already changed the labels in the table of contents for things such as Slide Title, Duration, etc by creating the TOCStrings.ini file and copying it to my root folder - that works as described in other posts/blogs. However, I am unable to change the Heading/Label of "Table of Contents" to French.
Is the TOCStrings.ini file the place to change the label of Table of Contents to French? If so, what string would I add to the file to make this change happen?
Can someone please let me know where the change can be made (if not in the TOCStrings.ini) or if the change is even possible?

If you enter data in the Info fields of the TOC, the indicator 'Table of Contents' will automatically be replaced by the Title field.
