Title of book on front cover AND spine???

Am I correct in saying that if you put a title on the front cover, the same title is automatically placed on the outer spine of the book??
If so, is there any way of only putting the title on the outer spine, and not on the front cover??
Any help would be appreciated.

it's just a guess but putting your title on the front cover and hiding it behind the photo might work?
i don't know how you find out if this works. I've just done a preview for a book I'm working on but the title didn't appear on the spine - i'm assuming it will be there in the final book.

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed with reinstalling OS X. Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files. After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair

My 30GB is fine but front cover and screen are scratched - is it worthe getting them replaced.

Whether or not it's worth the cost is totally up to you. The cost is going to depend on whether or not you choose to have Apple do the repair job, a third party repair company, or yourself. Do it yourself repairs will be the cheapest route, but it comes with the highest risk.
If you are willing to fork out the money to get it fixed, then go for it.

I have completed a iphoto book, but the back cover and flap have vanished. How can I add a back cover and flap.

My girlfriend has completed a iphoto book using my Mac. She completed it and sent it off for printing, but we received an email from Apple advising that clipped text had been found in the order.
We looked at the book again and noticed that there did not seem to be a back cover and flap to the book, the last page had been duplicated and one of the photo's had gone across some of the text. ( the front cover and flap were there.)
We have attempted to add a page, looked the the layout options etc, but there is no option to add a back cover and flap.
Please can you advise how we can add a back cover.

In InDesign CS6, I created a document containing front and back covers with a spine. It shows as a spread and all images show they are linked. But when I try to print to PDF, only the back cover and spine show. The front cover comes out blank. How do I correct this?

Save as IDML and open again in indesign and export to PDF.

You need to make a separate document which would have the back cover, spine and front cover laid out flat.
This is a tricky process in practice as it is difficult for anyone other than the printer to determine the final thickness of the book, and also, in all probability, you will need to allow for bleed off all sides for a cover. This needs to be added into the laid out artwork to allow the excess printing to be trimmed off.
In all cases, the answers to exactly what is required will be supplied by your commercial printer, should you be using one, which I assume you are as you wish to bind your book.

Iphoto not displaying front cover photos in my book project

After installing iphoto 11 the front cover page in my book project will not display the photos or the text, how ever the text will display if clicked on and then only 1 line at a time. The photos on the other hand will not. When the photo boxes are clicked on, the border will highlight and the photo in the thumbnail list will be outline and the word "COVER" will appear when the curser is over the photo. The back cover is fine.
When the book is previewed the front cover is blank just as it appears in the working process.
Is there a fix for this? If the book is ordered will the photos magically in the hard copy?

Be sure to preview the book as described in this Apple document before ordering: iPhoto, Aperture: Previewing an order in iPhoto or Aperture. If the PDF file is has no errors continue and order. Save the PDF file that is created for comparing to the printed copy when it arrives.

Mac Book Air shuts down completely if I close the cover and leave email running. Is n't it supposed to just sleep and awaken whe the cover is reopened? Instead, I have to boot it. Any idea what the problem is? I am unaware of any problem, just close the cover for safety.

Well I don't know anyone that closes the cove and leaves it for Hours... But try going to System Prefrences > Energy Saving > Uncheck Put Hard Disk to Sleep.

Time to repair you library: do the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down to open the First Aid window. Be sure to follow the circled recommendation in the screenshot.
2 - run Option #4, Rebuild Database.
3 - if necessary repeat with Option #1, Repair Permissions.

What version of iPhoto are you running? Where are you seeing this lack of back cover and flap.
A first try fix is this: make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.

3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
If that doesn't help create a new book and see if the back cover and flap are in it. If so then it appears that your original book is damaged.
You can try rebuilding the library by launching iPhoto with the Option and Command keys held down and select the option to Repair the Database, option #3. If that fails rebuild again with option #4, Rebuild Database.
If that doesn't help then create a new book, verify that the back cover and flap is there and add the photos.

I accidentaly bump the edges on the front cover of the MBP and the aluminium at that part turns kinda whitish. If you dont know what do i mean, just take a plastic cover and try bending it, then you will know what i mean If u guys out there can help me, i really appreciate it.

You damaged the anodized coating. Except replacing the cover - and it will be expensive - there is nothing that you can do except accept it.

Hi wondering if anyone can help me, i have an itouch 4 gen and the front cover has started to come away, it hasn't been dropped or anything just started to come away ( although i did notice that it was heating up drastically ) looks to me like the glue has dyed up and as usual the guarantee had not long ran out. My 7x7 book will only upload as a hard cover and not a soft cover.

I spent this afternoon putting together a simple 68-page 7x7 book in the book module today. My intention was to upload it as a soft cover book. I tried to do that several times this evening, but after LR had rendered the pages and uploaded them I would get a error related to "BookCover" size.
A little research suggested bugs in the system did not like two-page photo spreads, but I was not using any two-page spreads. Still, I chose a couple of different cover layouts and tried to upload each one. Unfortunately, I got the same error.
So I put everything back the way I had intended it to be to begin with and decided to see if it would upload as a hard cover. Lo and behold, it did!
But I don't want this book as a hardcover. It's a book of Instagram shots and I was specifically going for a more informal look.
Is there something obvious I am missing here? I've also been working on a larger book (with two-page photo spreads) and I'm a bit worried that I'm going to get an error when it comes to uploading that as well.

So a fault in the Hardware Raid controller could make it not read properly? I am planning on having a good backup set up after this!
As for the screenshot, the original was not set up with the SoftRaid. When I got the computer back I installed that to see if that may pick it up and make it at least readable to save the data on it. The two in question are the highlighted 4TB drives, which befor also read as one drive as it was set up in the OWC enclosure as a hardware raid.

select the book in the source pane on the left - press command-D to duplicate it - with the copy to change theme and pick the same (or new if you want) theme and the hard cover format in the size you want

IIwas viewing a photo book in slideshow mode and it froze so all I can see is the cover page of the book. I let the battery die down but when I powred up...there it is again the first page. F3 allows me to see pictures of a few other screens

You should really read the manual.

Restore. When given the choice, choose to use backup.
"And how can I check to see if the pics and videos are on my computer somewhere first??"
They would only be where you put them. What program did you use to import them? Pics/vids taken with ipod are not part of the sync process at all. You should be importing them just as you would with any digital camera.
If you did not import them, then they are not on your computer.
