Title/transition-related audio anomalies

I have just started using iMovie 6 after upgrading from iMovie 5 and I have immediately noticed some weird audio behavior.
-- After applying a simple Subtitle I notice an abrupt volume decrease when the title first appears, and then a reversion back up to normal levels once the title disappears. There also seems to be an slight audio "click" at the beginning and end of the Subtitle sequence. It's almost like the audio "ducking" that the new Garageband does - but very annoying here with my titling.
-- After applying a Fade-in to the very beginning of the movie, there is also an audio click at the very end of the transition.
I've even gone back to scratch and tried the above on a newly-imported clip - same problem occurs.
IM6 has so many neat new features that I thought I would try using it to do this simple project instead of Final Cut Express, but this audio glitch is a showstopper.
PowerMac Quad G5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   2.5 GB RAM

I've tried to reproduce the two audio problems here with no luck.
The lowering of the audio volume sounds like a bug that existed in iMovie 4. The volume of a title was affected by the volume slider setting in iMovie as the title was rendered. If the volume of the slider was low while the title was rendered, the clip forever had that volume. I can't make that happen in iMovie 6, however.
Sometimes these problems are just playback issues in iMovie, where the underlying video is okay. You might try playing the Timeline Movie.mov (it's inside the project package) in QuickTime Player. To get to the movie, Control-click on the project icon and choose "Show Package Contents" from the popUp menu. Double-click on the "Timeline Movie.mov" inside the Cache folder. If that movie plays okay, the underlying audio is okay.
You might also try examining the audio level of the title clip. Select the clip, then choose View > Show Clip Volume Levels. If the displayed volume isn't the same as the clip before and after it, you may be able to adjust its volume.
Another workaround may be to extract the audio of the clip before adding the title. Extracting audio copies the audio of the clip to one of the audio tracks, then mutes the audio of the clip. (To restore the audio, just re-set its audio level to what it was.) Since the audio is no longer part of the clip, it shouldn't be affected by adding a title.
If there's anything unusual about the imported video -- that it was shot at LP speed instead of SP -- perhaps that is a contributing factor.
Very strange.

  • How to Edit Titles, Transitions, and Music in a Copy of an iMovie Project?

    23 December 2009
    Dear Mac Users:
Happy Holidays! I am writing to find out how to edit a copy of an iMovie project. A friend made an
iMovie (project) on his MacBook Pro and sent it to me as an MPEG4 video file. I opened that MPEG4 video file in iMovie on my MacBook Pro and dragged it into a new project in my Project Library--we
    are both using iMovie '09.
Is there any way that I can view the title, transition, and music buttons/icons/markers that my friend used to create this particular iMovie project so that I can select them and make changes to the titles, transitions, and music? Primarily, I want to change the titles in this particular iMovie project, but do not see the buttons/icons/markers that are associated with the original iMovie project that my friend created. Is there any way that I can make changes to the titles and transitions that appear in this project on my computer?
    SIncerely,
    Corey

    *24 December 2009*
    *Dear Mac Users:*
Hello. Thanks to AppleMan1958 for answering my question about how to edit an iMovie project
    on another computer.
Here is a question related to the process of transferring the iMovie '09 project file from my friend's
computer to an external drive so that I can edit that project in iMovie '09 on my MacBook Pro:
How do I know if my Smart Disk FireLite portable external drive is formatted to MAC OS X Extended (journaled)? How I do format this Smart Disk FireLite USBFLB80C to MAC OS X Extended (journaled)?
When I connect the Smart Disk FireLite to my MacBook Pro via USB, open iMovie '09, and select View
Events By Disk or rather "Group Events By Disk," an icon for the FireLite external drive appears, but there is a yellow triangle with a black exclamation mark on the icon for the external drive. What does this "warning" mean? There are MP3s of music on the same external drive and they open just fine in iTunes. The one iMovie project file that is already on the drive will not open up in iMovie.
So, how do I properly format this external drive in order to transfer an iMovie project file from my friend's computer so that I can edit it on my MacBook Pro using iMovie '09?
    Sincerely,
    Corey

  • Transitions cause audio/ video sync problem

Lets see if I can explain this one. Its certainly an odd problem.
I have an iMovie project, with around a couple hundred photos in it, and some short video clips. Im putting transitions in between everything.
At some point I noticed that, sometimes, I'll add a transition after a video clip, and then the last few seconds still have my audio from that clip but the video changes to a photo 2 photos later in the time line. Then it changes to the next photo after the clip.
Im using the latest iMovie HD, and Quicktime Pro 7.5.5, and Mac OS X 10.5.4.

    Hi
    I do like this:
    • Select the video-clip
    • goto Advance menu - select extract audio
    • now apply transition
    • adjust audio clip

  • IMovie 10.0.2 How to adjust Photo Album Title speed on outgoing part of title transition?

I can't find a way to smooth the outgoing part of the Photo Album title transition. The book just flies open in like 0.5 seconds. Older versions of iMovie did it slowly and you really need that smooth transistion from book with title to full screen photo. Not liking the new interface. If anyone knows how to do this it would be greatly appreciated.

To answer the question in the subject line :
    You don't.
Do not think iWeb. Do not think MobileMe. Do not think domainname. It confuses the brain.
Simply put the desired slideshow folder from the examples on the server.
    The result is this :
    http://web.me.com/wyodor/Standard/
Open the index.html file in a HTML editor of your choice and remove the code with text you do not want displayed. And change the name of the images.
And now we come to iWeb.
Add a HTML snippet to a page and paste an <iframe> to display the slideshow :
    <iframe src="../../../Standard/" width="950" height="200" scrolling="no" frameborder="0"></iframe>
Change the width and height numbers to make the slideshow fit the snippet.

  • BUG: Speed Change + Audio Transition = No Audio-Video Sync

BUG: Speed Change + Audio Transition = No Audio-Video Sync
If you change the speed of clips (125%) and make an audio transition between them (power), the audio runs out of sync. The longer the transition, the more out of sync.

  • Transition of Audio Between Clips

I made an iMovie from several video clips and used the circle opening transition between the clips.
Although the video looks good, the audio part of the transition did not work out well. [The audio is the audio that is imbedded into each clip.] The audio for each clip in the iMovie begins (abruptly) after the transition. There is no smooth transition of audio from one clip to the next.
Is there a way to have the audio of the first clip smoothly change into the audio of the second clip during the period of the video transition?
Is there a way to have the audio of the second clip begin at the start of the transition rather than at the end of the transition?
    Thank you for your help.
Mac Mini Intel   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hi
You should extract the audio from the clip (cmd+j i think). the audio will be placed on a new track. Make sure you have clip volume enabled and you will see a line through the clip. Palce nodes and drag them up or down - this represents volume and you can cross-fade betwteen audio clips for a smoother transition.
You can also grab these audio clips and place them where you want.
    Hope this helps

  • Still and title transition problem

    Premier Pro 1.5
    Encore 1.5
    1H 52Min finished SD video
All video content SD DV, same settings, same camera, same master tapes
All stills 480 max or 720 max with a black video layer below
    All titles made in PP1.5
Many music tracks along  with native audio from the clips
Everything went great, all transitions, stills and titles look good in the timeline. All looks good in the single file avi export from PP1.5 as played with windows media.
As soon as I import the avi into Encore 1.5 to author the DVD, a few transitions between stills and/or titles get scrambled. It happens on about 3 random transitions out of maybe 50 - 100 of them. Sometimes a transition effect (fade) is involved, sometimes there is no effect. An example is 2 stills or titles adjacent to each other with the same duration. After the import to Encore the durations get hosed and the second still or title flashes for less than a second.
Any ideas? Other than this problem this long and involved video is flawless.
    Thanks,
    George

For anyone following along at home. George got his Project done, and reports on it in this THREAD in the PrPro forum.

  • Black title with clip audio

    Hi!
I started using iMovie 11 and I'm having a small issue with it.
I want to finish my project by fading to a black screen and having then text appearing on the screen, but keeping the audio of the clip.
I've tried to drop a title AFTER a clip but it does then cut the audio. I've also dropped a title ON a clip but then it doesn't have a fade to black background.
What I did until now is cut my clip in 2 parts, put a fade to black transition and tried to change the video options of the second clip to make it appear black. The result is not that good as I can't make the background full black (there's still some blue somewhere).
Any chance there's an easy and proper way to do that that I've missed?
Very simple, fade to black title with audio clip.
    Thanks!

  • [SOLVED]new title: convert relative to absolute paths in bash

So the issue was not MPD, i hadn't noticed my script was creating a bad symlink when i passed it a relative path.  new problem, the simplest way to accept any relative path as argument and return an absolute path for use throughout the script.  i'm off to google...
my current version of the solution as a bashrc function:
    rel2abs() {
    local file="$(basename "$1")"
    local dir="$(dirname "$1")"
    pushd "${dir:-./}" &>/dev/null && local dir="$PWD"
    echo "$dir/$file"
    popd &>/dev/null
    :: OP ::
so i have this little script that is supposed to allow me to one-time-play an audio file sitting outside my mpd directory by creating a symlink to the file, updating the db, then playing the symlink.  everything's great accept mpd won't follow the symlink when creating/updating the db.
i've restarted mpd and re-create[d]-db both as myself (mpd runs as me) and as root many, many times.  it never changes.  the symlink file is never added to my database... is the manpage lying?  do i file a bug?  can anyone else reproduce?
i don't think it's a perm issue, mpd runs as me and the symlink's target and destination are both under ~/

Mind posting your script? I've been using the following perl script to play a file outside of the music directory using mpd (found through the mpd wiki, I think). I'm up for a simpler solution if you found one!
    #!/usr/bin/perl

    || die("Can't create symlink from $file to $MUSIC_PREFIX/$TEMP_DIR/$link: $!");
    push @links, $link;
    say_and_do("mpc update $TEMP_DIR",$DEBUG);

  • Tempo grid not related audio regions

So I'm feeling stupid - I'm working on a sound design which uses only human voices. I've placed tons of samples into the arrange window, found an order I like for some of them and now want to align with them with the beginnings of bars related to the tempo that live musicians will play when this whole thing is performed. But if I change the tempo, using any of the 15 or so obvious methods, it changes the lengths and move all of my audio samples.
Is it possible to simply lay in a tempo grid as a guide, without it having any effect whatsoever on what's already in the project? I know I'm not the only sound designer out here who could give a s* about loops. I've already lost a couple of hours to it today - which will multiply in a hurry if I have to start doing the math to lay out my grid offline.
So am I being stupid, or is there no simple solution?

the region creates perfect at the start but its a hair off at the end
This is the moment where you have to stop right away and fix it, because this is a small problem that has a tendency to gradually turn into a big problem. And you can fix it easily once you understand the relevant techniques.
So i stretch it out to match the actual loop markers
At this point it's important to know what version of Logic you're using.
You also need to be more specific about what you mean by stretch it out. I think you mean that you are looking at the region in the Arrange window, and you grab the right edge of the region and you pull it. But I need to know if you are grabbing the upper right edge or the lower right edge. I also need to know if you are holding down the option key. I also need to know if you are trying to make the region longer or shorter. I know "stretch" implies the former but I want to make sure I'm not making an incorrect assumption.
You'll notice that the normal pointer tool turns into different tools, as you try these different approaches (upper/lower, without option key/with option key).
Also, a yellow help tag appears while you're doing this. I need to know what the help tag says. Not every single number; just the word or phrase at the top left of the help tag.
I could just tell you exactly what to do, but the whole thing is going to make much more sense to you in the end if we start out by understanding the real nature of what you're doing now.

  • IMovie 6.0.3 (Title/Transitions/FX) Problems

I have been reading lots of similar problems, and I have tried to remedy based upon previous posts. However, nothing seems to have helped when using the latest iMovie. (prefs, privs, etc)
I often receive a black clip when I try to speed up or elongate clip. I do a lot of high school sports editing, and this feature comes in very handy. Unfortunately, this is only one of those that are not usable. Another problem, is that upon importing fullscreen graphics, it converts to movie, and shows up as black.
Is this one of those bugs that came in iMovie HD, and has there been a work around yet? I am a little disheartened at the problems I am now running into these days in iMovie.
Should I consider starting from scratch with this 5 hr import? I wanna make my honeymoon vid/DVD well edited.
At a loss! Thanks for your help!

    Rejam,
Apple once offered something called Plugin Pack 2.2. It was a collection of additional plugins for iMovie.
Some of them are no longer compatible with iMovie HD. Some have been incorporated into the stock set that iMovie now comes with.
Here's the list of plugins from that old Plugin Pack that I think may have issues and/or have been incorporated into iMovie's stock collection.
    EFFECTS
    Circle Transition
    Flash
    Ghost Tails
    Mirror
    NSquare
    Radial Transition
    Wash Transitions
    TITLES
    Subtitles

  • Button Link Transitions with Audio?

Ive got a question on what can be used as a Button Transition. I have a 10 sec. AV in PP2, that I want to use. In general, no problems. Ive Exported the Video to DV-AVI (silent), and it works beautifully. I only have to do a blend from the Menu for the head and then a still from the Timeline at the tail. No biggie. What I am having problems with is getting an SFX Audio file into the PP2 Sequence for this Transition. So far, I am having problems. I tried to make a Timeline for this AVI with an AC3 Audio, but Encore2 would not allow a link to it, via the Pickwhip. I tried to Import several variations of muxed files, but kept getting errors with the number of channels on Import. Then, I did a muxed MPEG file, and got my first big "Crash" of Encore2. When I linked to the M2v, I got something about Abbie Normal Condition. Wasnt he the founder of the Yippies back in the 60s, along with poet, Allen Ginsberg? The error (really An Abnormal Condition... Please try to Save... ) came up and I could not even exit from Encore2. Had to finally use TaskManager to kill the Process. This was a first for me after all of these years. Lesson - do not use the M2v as a Button Transition!
Now, Im certain that there are possibilities that I have not tried, but before I beat what could be a dead horse, I wanted to find out one thing: can I even have Audio in a Button Transition?
I have total control over my Asset, so I can engage in any workaround necessary. If anyone has any info (Help/Manual do not go deeply into specifics on Button Transitions, and even Jeffs Book, Focal Easy Guide... doesnt mention them, as I can find.), Id greatly appreciate it. Same for any ideas on using Audio for these. In my case, its a bit of an electronic whoosh with a long gong tone, and moves left to right and rear to front to rear (in the 5.1 version). I do not need to do 5.1, as stereo, panned left to right would work fine too.
Appreciate the direction, thoughts and ideas,
    Hunt

    Jbowden,
Thanks for the simple little test. I just linked my existing SFX AC3 to the Main Menu's Audio and it worked fine. The pan/fade of the 5.1 was intact and worked in Preview.
I Exported the Button Transition test as a DV-AVI/PCM WAV from PP2, and Imported as a Timeline into Encore2. Tested and it played fine, but there was just the left-right pan, as expected. Linked my Button #1 to the AVI, as it would not link to the Timeline (as before), and went to Preview - "An Abnormal Condition... Save... " happened again. It is obviously not just the M2v, but the AVI, as well.
Back to square one in my tests. I've been working with a preliminary, test Project in Encore. It was used to create a DVD set for client review of most other aspects of the Project. It contained 4 Dynamic Links to AE, which were rendered out, plus 2 Menus a short lead-in AVI and some other Assets. Without any Button Transitions, it previewed and burned perfectly.
What I am going to do now is create a fresh Encore2 Project. Initially, it will only have the Play First AVI, the two Menus (Main & Scene Selection) and then I'll work with just the Button Transitions - all other Assets will not be included. I want to eliminate any other possible problem from the mix.
One thing that occurred to me was that this Project was a very full DVD. Though the Transcode is Automatic, I wonder if I am now adding too much to an already Transcoded Project. Rather than clear all Caches, and Revert to the unTranscoded state in this Project, I'll build, instead, from scratch. If that works, I'll just do the Button Transitions for the Scene Select Menu (4 Buttons/Links) and test again. If it still goes well, I'll add in the Rendered AE files and probably not use DL this time. Then, I'll Transcode and test to see if it all holds up. This method will not tell us exactly where the problem lies, if it works at all, but then when I have time, I can go back and clean Caches and Revert the Assets for a final test.
To date, the motion-only Button Transitions worked fine. It was only when I have tried (several different schemes) to add Audio, that I have encountered the problem.
Should have the preliminary test this AM, as the Project is very simple and starting over is not a big deal.
One side observation that I have made is that after I had to use TaskManager to end the Encore2 Process the other day, it now takes Encore2 a few minutes to even get the Splash Screen up. This is new behavior. I also cannot shift focus to/from Encore2 (with PP2 open), by clicking on the icon in the Taskbar. Even Rt-clicking and choosing Restore does not Maximize it. Only by going to TaskManager and clicking on the Application does it Maximize. As this was my first Encore2 "Crash," I am not sure what might be happening there. If I can get this Project done, I'll probably do a Repair Installation of Encore2, to see if the new behavior subsides.
Thanks for the input. Will be back with followups.

  • Video transitions with audio

    Hello all,
Is there any way of doing a seamless transition from a menu to track with audio as well as video.
I'm trying to create an interactive DVD for Children where you click on a rabbit, it then moves in the video transition and then becomes a track where ther is a close up of the movement.
I have audio on the close up as it is a track but it would make it much better if there was audio on the transition movie.
    thanks for any help
    Fred

What sort of programmes do the high end blockbuster DVD producers use?
Some very high end expensive ones like Scenarist and others. Though between DVD SP, DVD AE and some good encoders (such as bitVice, digigami, or CC running on a MacIntel Windows set-up) you can do some real good things and accomplish many things that need to get done. The real kicker for those DVDs (IMO) is the source footage - cameras, lighting and post work. Dealing with real good source is a plus.
And of course you have very talented graphics people for the menus and so on. But once those elements are made and encoded to m2v, DVD SP for the most part, with DVD AE, can do alot of the same things. The vast majority of what is on a DVD for many DVDs really is not different. You get your cutsey things and so forth, and things that make you go "coool" especially when you author your own DVDs.
Jake, Hal and others probably can fill you in more on what they like in the other systems and what they think DVD SP may/does lack, but again DVD SP and DVD AE together is a pretty strong set up.
There is also other software out there that adds interactivity to DVDs (I think things like Who Wants to Be A Millionaire on DVD and some others may have used variations) but do not hold me to it.

  • Trying to get clean title transitions with CS5

Hi -I have lot's of trouble trying to get a consistent, clean transition in CS5. Mulple systems, multple configs but here is an example of the latest.
    HP Z800
    Quadro FX 5800
    12 GB RAM
    2 x 6core XEON (X5680)
    Atto R380 RAID controller
    CalDigit HDOne Storage
    example:
    1. place title with a transparent drop shadow, fade in, the fade won't be smooth.  it will 'pop' at the end of the transition - the fade is smooth until the very end, and then jumps to opaque (or whatever opacity level is set for title/graphic)
Rendering makes little difference, and in the case of the video behind it can sometimes result in additional blooming, jumping in opacity levels and so on.  For example if I have a cross dissolve from black on video clip, it will preview fine, but after rendering we will get color shifts, or opacity jumps instead of a smooth fade in.
Changing from GPU to software will clear the video previews to resolve the rendered area problems, but then we are just back at unsmooth transitions of titles and so on.
Have changed various rendering settings, codecs etc...
    any help?

  • Transition Makes Audio Skip in Slideshow

    Hi
I just bought some training dvds on DVDSP. So I was following along on the dvds while making my own compulation.
it consisted of some video and still pics.
when the audio is playing through the stills, it stops (goes blank) during the transition.
why is this and how can we correct it?
you shouldent have to watch a slideshow with gaps in the music right?
BTW, it happens with any transitions I used.

    Hi:
Where are you warching the DVD: computer or stand alone player?
    Some advices:
    - Use Dolby 2 (AC3) audio. Encode your audio using Compressor before inmporting it into DVDSP. AC3 audio uses a lower bitrate.
    - When you finish your Slideshow esign, duplicate it (to keep a backup copy) and convert it to a track. That uses to help solving weird behaviours of Slideshows. This is a one way process. You cannot re convert the track to a slideshow. That's why you must duplicate it in casae you need to re edit later.
