Titles in iDVD?

Hi
I am working on my iDVD project. Is there any way of placing the titles on each of the slides/pictures? Sort of like you can put the titles on each of the picture in iPhoto.
It seems like it's impossible, though it's hard to believe since it's well designed application.
also, does anybody know if there is a difference in quality between PAL format and NTSC?
Thanx for any help.

I've tried every theme. The main title is missing no matter what theme I try and even when I start a new project it's missing. This is my first use of idvd6 but I have burned a few dozen disks with iDVD5 and never encountered this problem. I don't want to have to reload that but it's getting to that point. This is very frusrating. For add text I have tried the apple K as well as trying it under the "project" menu. Nothing happens.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

  • IPhoto Titles in iDVD

If I add titles in an iPhoto slide show, they appear in the upper left hand corner of each slide. When I send the slide show to iDVD, the titles are outside of the TV-safe area and do not show on the DVD when played on a TV. Any suggestions as to how to make the titles visible? Can they be moved?

    Howard:
The titles cannot be moved. If you are not using the Ken Burns effect in the slideshow creating it from within iDVD will let your automatically add the Titles at the bottom with additional space to add comments.
Otherwise you're going to have to scale the movie to fit into the TV Safe area and add additional "canvas" outside the movie. I think there may be an iMovie plugin that can do that. That will require you to import the iPhoto QT movie into iMovie (if you exported it from iPhoto to iDVD the movie file will be in your Movies folder) and apply the plugin.
There's a way to do it with Quicktime Pro and an Applescript that Apple has for download. Here's the workflow that I developed:
Masking Movies to the TV Safe Area for iDVD
The mask should be 640 x 480 pixels and the movie 514 x 386 (I arrived at this figure by making a snapshot of the TV save area of an iDVD project with Snapz). You can set this size after you’ve joined it with the mask movie with Quicktime Player Pro.
Import the black mask jpg file into iMovie and and export it as a .mov file at the same length as your movie (there may be a way to not have to create a specific length mask for each movie but I haven't found it. If the times do not match the movie file will be synced to the length of the mask movie).
Open the mask movie in QT Player Pro and then open your regular movie and make it the front window of the two. Now you'll need to run a QT Player AppleScript titled "Merge Movie 1 into Movie 2". You can get it from this Apple site: Quicktime Player Scripts.
Then run the script. You can then run the merged movie to check it out. Your movie will be located in the upper lefthand corner of the window when played.
When you open the Movie Properties window from the Window menu for the combined file you’ll see the following:
Video Track 1: the black mask
Video Track 2 : your movie file
Tween track: Have no idea what this is.
    Sound track: self explanaotry
    Black mask.
To set the size of your movie to the correct size select it in the Properties window and click on Visual Settings pane. Then enter 514 in the first field and hit enter. With the Preserve Aspect Ration box checked the other size will automatically be set.
To center the video track in the center of the mask select the Video Track 2 item and plug in a offset of about: 60 & 40. You'll probably have to play with that to fine tune the centering. Doing the math and subtracting the movie dimensions from the mask dimensions and dividing by two just didn't get it perfectly centered. I'm sure I'm missing something here.
Now save as a new self contained movie after checking the High Quality box at the bottom right.
You can not import it into iDVD for preview and burning. One drawback is that you can't invoke the TV save area for a movie in iDVD to check it out. But you can mark it on the monitor screen while viewing a menu or slideshow and then play the movie to see how close you came.
It will require some trial and error but it does work.

  • Comments and Titles for iDVD slideshows

I am wondering if there is any way to change the appearance (font, size, etc.) of the comments and titles for photos in an iDVD slideshow.  I have not found a way to do this, and am surprised since it seems I am able to change appearance for the text in virtually all other areas of iDVD.  I am running version 7.1.2.  Thanks for any suggestions.

No, there's no way to modify that font or size.

  • IPhoto slideshow burned in iDVD

I created an album in iPhoto with a few comments/titles and burned it in iDVD as a slideshow.   Is there a way to remove the dark "box" around the captions that appear on the DVD?   Also, some of the slides that do not have text have the empty "boxes".    Any ideas?

Where did you add the comments and titles, in iDVD?  If so there's nothing you can do about how they are presented.  If you didn't add them in iDVD how did you add them and can you post a screenshot of what you're seeing?

  • Changing title in "project info" keeps titling DVD "My-Great-DVD"

There was an unanswered topic by this name which has been archived so I couldn't respond to it.
When changing the name of your DVD in the iDVD "project info" window, be sure to have NO SPACES or odd characters in the name. Letters, numbers, and underscores are OK. If you have spaces, iDVD should automatically replace them with underscores. However, if you already had a name, or once had the default name of "MyGreatDVD", and then change it to "The Name I Want", iDVD reverts to "MyGreatDVD" when burning the DVD, because it has underscores, which it likes, and "The Name I Want" does not have underscores, which iDVD doesn't like. If you replace "MyGreatDVD" with "TheName_IWant" (with underscores) your new name should stick.
How many blank discs have you burned through trying to troubleshoot this?

I have to say I have never had a problem with my own titles reverting to 'My Great DVD' when burned, but then, I haven't changed the title in Project Info either. However, the title in the Project Info is NOT the title I use when burning my movies to iDVD. I change the title on iDVD's main screen to whatever I want, and that is the title that is burned onto the disk.
Where are you seeing the reverted title on your burned DVD?

  • IMovie / iDvd BIG Headache - Help please

    iMovie v4
    iDvd v5
    2.5Gb Ram
    Hi all,
I have just spent nearly two days creating a film in imovie only to find that it wont burn in idvd.
It contains a large amount of audio clips and suffers from the stuttering problems mentioned in other threads which seems to be a serious bug in the software.
I passed the project to idvd from imovie and built the menus etc, it previews fine in idvd. When burning, it all goes well until it gets to ''encoding audio asset'' when it just hangs permanently.
Has anyone got any ideas? i've had just about enough of video editing (serious video camera import problems as well) and have now run out of patience.
    Thanks in advance,
    Dave

    Dave,
Happy New Year to you and Sue!
See how easy answers to problems can be obtained when detailed info is provided.
I briefly looked at the suggestions/advice by Sue & Karl posted and I agree with them.
I convert mpeg2 files with MpegStremclip and have on occasion burned my audio to CD and reimported to my audio track.
OK, so far so good. Now let's look forward to your next project (or maybe this one if you still have problems).
I make it a practice to edit in small chunks (by scene/segement/clip, or whatever, but always ensuring the video on the timeline never exceeds 9:28 mins which equals about 2gbs.
After I've added all my transitions, effects, titles, etc. I export the finished scene/segement/clip and start a new project with the next scene/segement/clip, or whatever.
After I've completed and exported the last scene, I start a new project and bring them all together (joining them with transitions if neccesary), save & close iMovie. Open iDVD, import the .Mov project file into iDVD and Voila!
Editing in small chucks (by predetermined scenes) is less complicated and lessens the possibilty of, out of sync audio, stuttering, etc. It also lessens the many transitions, visual/audio effects and titles that iDVD would ordinarily have to deal with during the encoding process, making it easier for iDVD to do it's thing.
The suggestions above are just the way I do it others may have different ways of editing that produce the same results, but I stick with what I've found works best for me. I haven't had any problems (that couldn't be corrected/resolved)since iMovie 3.xx
    NOTE.
The easiest way to import all the previously exported scenes/segments/clips in the new iMovie project is to:
Locate the new project's media folder & drag all the scenes into it. The next time you open iMovie the option to place the clips in the clips pane will appear, select yes, and drag the clips to the timeline. Conduct any last minute editing if needed, save and close. you're ready for iDVD.
Just for your info, clips bigger than 2gbs can only be brought into iMovie by the above procedure (being placed in the media folder), however, no further editing can be performed on these clips.
Clips smaller than 2gbs can be brought into iMovie several different ways and are still editable.

  • Puting iDVD created with iDVD onto iPad

Over the years I have created a lot of trips using iMovie & iDVD & put them onto DVD's. Now I would like to put them on my new iPad. Any suggestions?

Does this solution simply extract the source files from the DVD title?
What about a method to retain the interactive menus and experience created as a title with iDVD, including background artwork, browse menus, movies, picture slideshows, et al to the iPad?

  • DVD Title Change

I build a disk image and name it what I would like the final DVD to display, then when I burn the actual DVD using The Apple Disk Utility the title of the DVD reverts to MyGreatDVD, the default title of iDVD. How do I prevent this from happening?

    Hello Bobbbo,
beats me .... I just created a disk image for another purpose and surely it's named "test".
Try to delete iDVD preferences (com.apple.iDVD.plist) and repair permissions. Delete all old iDVD projects and create a new one with the appropriate name. Then in iDVD choose Project > Show Project Info from the menu. In the pop-up window there should be the correct name - if not correct it there. Create a disk image.
    hope this helps

  • 11 minute video is 4.7 GB

I have a 11 minute video in iMovie and when I share with iDVD or to Quick time the file is 4.7 GB. Is there a reason why this is so large. Because of this I am unable to burn it on to a DVD. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

I imported short quick time movies from my Fuji digital camera and a Flip video camera. I added titles and transition and some music. I then proceeded to share the video to iDVD. When iDVD opened up and I started to change the title then iDVD freezes. I then tried to share it through a Quick Time and then place the video into iDVD. It still freezes up. That is when I thought it was because of time size.

  • Keyboard non-functioning - may have deleted something essential!

Help! My keyboard has stopped working. Inexplicably, the mouse is fine, but nothing comes up when I type. I suspect that I may have deleted something essential.
I was ruthlessly deleting things off my hard drive in an attempt to make iMovie and iDVD work properly - getting rid of unused printer drivers, etc. - and I'm afraid I might have deleted something I shouldn't have. Everything worked fine until I tried to type a title into iDVD, at which point the program promptly shut down. I double-clicked the Keyboard and Mouse control panel, and the system folder promptly closed (I could open the other control panels without issue). I tried to do a restart in safe mode, and the shift key seemed to work to get that going, but I couldn't type in my password in the log-in screen!
I assume I will have to reinstall system software (which will do away with all that nice free space I created), but how do I do that when the CD-eject button is on the keyboard and I can't type my password?
    I will appreciate any help!!

    hi there-
if the shift key seemed to work to get into safe mode, but wouldn't work once logged in, the keyboard should work to boot to the install disk. simply put in the install disk number one (make sure it is for the current operating system) and hold down the c during startup. do disk repair beforehand, and make sure it fixes all errors, before attempting to reinstall. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214 once you proceed in the installer, make sure you select the macintosh hd as the destination, then choose archive and install, preserving users and network settings. complete instructions are in this article. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120 good luck to you.

  • How can I keep tabs on the file size when importing from the Event Library into a Project? I want to ensure the movie will fit onto a 4.7Gb disc?

How can I keep tabs on the file size when importing from the Event Library into a Project? I want to ensure the movie will fit onto a 4.7Gb disc?

iDVD does not care about file sizes, as it compresses the file to the standard DVD format of mpeg2.
It only cares about length i.e. max 2 hours including titles etc.
    iDVD encoding settings:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/7.0/en/11417.html
    Short version:
Best Performance is for videos of up to 60 minutes
Best Quality is for videos of up to 120 minutes
Professional Quality is also for up to 120 minutes but even higher quality (and takes much longer)
Professional Quality: The Professional Quality option uses advanced technology to encode your video, resulting in the best quality of video possible on your burned DVD. You can select this option regardless of your project’s duration (up to 2 hours of video for a single-layer disc and 4 hours for a double-layer disc). Because Professional Quality encoding is time-consuming (requiring about twice as much time to encode a project as the High Quality option, for example) choose it only if you are not concerned abo
In both cases the maximum length includes titles, transitions and effects etc. Allow about 15 minutes for these.
You can use the amount of video in your project as a rough determination of which method to choose. If your project has an hour or less of video (for a single-layer disc), choose Best Performance. If it has between 1 and 2 hours of video (for a single-layer disc), choose High Quality. If you want the best possible encoding quality for projects that are up to 2 hours (for a single-layer disc), choose Professional Quality. This option takes about twice as long as the High Quality option, so select it only if time is not an issue for you.
Use the Capacity meter in the Project Info window (choose Project > Project Info) to determine how many minutes of video your project contains.
NOTE: With the Best Performance setting, you can turn background encoding off by choosing Advanced > “Encode in Background.” The checkmark is removed to show it’s no longer selected. Turning off background encoding can help performance if your system seems sluggish.
And whilst checking these settings in iDVD Preferences, make sure that the settings for NTSC/PAL and DV/DV Widescreen are also what you want.

  • Slideshow music skips

After burning a slideshow i noticed that the music and video "stutters" at 8min and 58 seconds. 9 min also happens to be the length of each title. i have tried the discs on a few dvd players and also on my computer. same results eachtime. is there a way to fix this and or is there a way of changing the pre determined length of a title (if idvd didnt break it self up into titles then the music would not skip).
    HELP!!!!
    thanks

a dvd has chapters and titles.
So you think a slideshow is a "chapter?" "Chapter" is normally used with movies.
    Could it be this?:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302962
i have tried two different brands of dvd-r
one inkjet printable ones that i dont know the name of and sony.
Cheap no-name stuff is worthless when burning DVDs...
I recommend a disk image burned to Verbatim DVD-R at 4X or slower using Toast or Disk Utility.
David Pogue also recommends Verbatim on page 356 of his latest book:
iMovie HD & iDVD 6: The Missing Manual
Quoting David: "Cheaper brands don't use the same amount of organic dyes and are more likely to suffer premature deaths."

  • Wasteful re-rendering after making minor chages

Why does iDVD waste so much time re-rending a DVD when there is only a minor change made?
For example, I have a iDVD 6 project containing two movies. If I change the music on the title menu, iDVD will render that again, but also spend hours rerending the two movies. Is there a way to avoid this?
I always Save as Disk Image, and, of course, "Best Quality."
    And, does 6 hours+ to render a 2-hour DVD on a 2 GHz G5 sound about right?
    Jeff

To continue this thread: iDVD6 rerenders the menus even when I have not made any changes to the project, every time, all the time.
    For example,
    Save as disc image ...
Renders what it needs to, always including menus etc. Finishes successfully, if I then:
    Burn DVD ...
    It renders the menus again.
This makes burning multiple dual layer discs in iDVD6 rather slow and time consuming.
I believe it is still true that one should burn DL discs in iDVD rather than Disk Utility to ensure a working layer change-over point.
Do other people see this? If not, what can I do to prevent it?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ashley.
