Titles in iPhoto?

I only want a version of iPhoto on my iPad so that I can see the organization of the photos, in albums, folders, and to be able to see the titles and descriptions, especailly when I do a slide show.
Is this possible with iPhoto on the iPad?
I don't want to edit photos, and I do all the organization on my Mac.  It is much easier there, with the bigger screen and the extra monitor.
I just want to do the editing of titles, adding descriptions, and organization into albums and folders there, on the Mac, then have it synch and look the same on the iPad.  Nothing fancy.
Does iPhoto on the iPad work like this?
Since I have an original iPad, I don't want to go through the kludge of installing it if I don't get this simple capability.
(Thanks to the community for helpful answers about whether I can make it work on my iPad.)

No it doesn't. Currently the only thing iPhoto on the Mac and iPhoto for iOS share is a name.

  • How to put Titles in iPhoto slideshows

I truly love the slideshows I create in iPhoto with music...
"BUT", I'd also like to add a brief comment before, during or after the slideshow, and I've found this impossible to do.
Is Apple waiting for the new upgrade to address this problem?...
I've gone into my wordprocessor "Appleworks, and text-edit", hoping I could then export/import the titles into iPhoto, but to no avail...
I enjoy creating slideshows with music, then burning them, then playing them on stereo sound television, and its a total blast for me when I view my creations.
So, Apple, or readers on this site, please help a poor old man towards the path of enlightenment, for life can truly be beautiful with "titles"...
    Thanks to all...

    Terence,
Don't know if you misunderstood my problem, but today, I found the solution to putting titles into iPhoto slideshows, and its pretty simple also.
I don't know how to enter a link here in order to include the directions on how to create titles in iPhoto..
But, briefly, create the title in any wordprocessor.
    Take a screen shot.
Drag it into an iPhoto icon
Then, drag the icon into the iPhoto library.

We have no idea what enhancements - if any - are
planned for iPhoto. What you want to do cannnot be
done with iPhoto unless you use a third part editor
to create images with the comments, and import the
images into iPhoto and then incorporate them into
your slideshow. There are other apps that can caption
and use comments. Check out PhotoToMovie from

  • My Wish - Change title in iPhoto and it will change filename in Finder

I wish that if I change a title in iPhoto that it will change the filename in the Finder as well.
I know I can export photos to the desktop with "name>use title" checked and reimport them, but that seems like a lot of work. And what if I change my mind about the title? I have to do it again.
I really wish I had properly named my photos before importing them, but it's too late now.
Oh well, if wishes were horses...

    Ouch!!!
Do you have any backups? If you do you, try Old Toad's advice:
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
TD, how would I write keywords to the EXIF file?

  • Can I batch change titles within iPhoto while keeping the original IMG_(4digit) filename/title as PART of the new title?

Using iPhoto '09/8.1.2 on a MacBookPro, with 40,000+ photo library, having the (apparently common) problem of CD burn errors (with Toast and with Disk Utility) when 2 photos end up having the same underlying filename assigned by the camera.  To try to avoid this, I want to retitle pictures within iPhoto so I can utilize the "use title as filename" option when exporting (because I guess I can't burn CDs from WITHIN iPhoto because of this problem, right?).  I was hoping to create new titles that were a combination of the existing 4 digit filename assigned by the camera, combined with new descriptive text (either date, or event title would be fine), and hoping to save time by using Batch Change (which I've never tried - just seen it mentioned here in perusing discussions).  I've also seen reference to "Automator" (which may be over my head), but again not sure if that can be used within iPhoto to combine existing/new title text.  (Also, I saw mention of a script written by Toad at Toad Hall site, but the link to it was bad - may be over my head, also: never tried a "script" before...)  Thanks in advance!

No.  Coming out of iPhoto you're limitied to the Title, real file name, Album name or (in the Export window) Text  with or without sequential number.
However, if you export out with the orignal file name to a folder you can use a file renaming app to add whatever common text to the beginning of the file name so you would get XXXX XXX-IMG 1234.jpg.  Some renamers can remove the IMG bore adding the text at the beginning.
The app that I use and like best is Name Mangler.  Very powerfull.

  • How to undo a batch change of all titles in iPhoto

I accidentally secected all of my photos thinking I was in an album and batch changed all 30,000 photos titles to the same tilte. I had to forse quit due to the unstopable spinning ball. I'm about to cry but hope someone can help me... Mr. Old Toad????  Where are you???  I saw an old post from 2008 but I have iPhotop 11, version 9.2.3 and I'm on OS 10.7.4    So maybe things have changed???
I have a time machine back up from a month or so ago and also a second computer that was last updated about that time and synced with my MacBook Pro (which is where the problem exists)  I have during that time started using photo stream so I could find all the pictures I've resently taken there.
So maybe the library6.iPhoto option works????  How is that done again?

Try typeing Command+Z to undo.  It might work if you haven't done anything since making that global change.
Otherwise, use the same Batch Change and use Title to File Name.  That will get you back to the original file name in the title field that was there after importing.

  • Automatic refresh of photo order when changing photo titles in iPhoto 9.6

I've just moved from an older version of iPhoto to 9.6.
In the previous version, when you changed the title of a photo (within an event), the sort order of the photos was automatically and immediately updated.  In 9.6 it isn't - I have to do View - Sort Photos then select another sort criteria (e.g. date), then do this again for title, to get the photo order to refresh.
Does anyone know if I am I stuck with this new (retrograde) behaviour, or if there's a way to get iPhoto 9.6 to automatically refresh the photo order?
Otherwise, is there a keyboard shortcut for refreshing the photo order, or for changing the view - sort photos criteria?
Thanks in advance for any help!

It will resort if you leave the Event (click All Events button) and then go back.  Not a good solution but quicker IMO than using the View ➙ Sort menu method.

  • Missing titles in iPhoto 6

I bought a copy of iLife '06 when it came out in January. I was a little frustrated with the inability to send pictures to homepage.mac.com. So, I took it off my PowerBook (where I do my iPhoto editing) and put it on my G4 Cube so I might still be able to practice with iWeb because I knew one day I'd get an Intel-based Mac.
Well, that day has come, I have a new MacBook. It's all up-to-date with iPhoto 6.0.3 and I used the Migration Assistant to move my home folder only from the PowerBook to the MacBook with my 15,000 pictures. As I'm now completely re-building my Web site using iPhoto to send my albums to iWeb, I've noticed that quite a few of the "titles" I've used to describe my pictures have disappeared. It's not specific to a date range or a roll or an album. Some albums are missing only one an some are missing all of them.
Now, I do have a backup of my PowerBook (which has been erased for sale now), so if i was forced to I could re-import my library over again, but I've been making a few changes for the past two weeks (including importing new pictures) so I'm a little wary to do that. Does anyone know how I might recover the various titles without re-typing them all?
    -Doug

    Doug:
What are you finding in place of the titles? The original file name? When the titles are changed in iPhoto the changes are recorded in the AlbumData.xml file.
Why some would lose the title and others not is strange.
A long shot would be to use iPhoto Library Manager, free version, to rebuild the desktop. It doesn't touch your existing library folder but creates a new one while reading from the old data files. Might be worth a try. All that you can lose is some time. Here's how:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: It can take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos. One user reported that with a library of about 5,000 images it took about 12 hours so plan ahead.

  • Why don't titles from iPhoto iOS transfer to Mac?

I was so excited when iPhoto for the iPad was released.  The ability to caption photos while on the road was something I'd been waiting for since the first iPad was released.  I just returned from a 3 week trip to Africa and had carefully titled each photo when I transferred it from the camera to the iPad.  When I got home I then copied the iPad photos to my iMac and found none of the titles were transferred.  Bit disappointed at this, as now I have to go thru about 2000 photos and retitle them.  At least I have the correct names for all the birds, etc. on the iPad, so have a reference, but still a big waste of time.

As you have discovered iPhoto for iOS and iPhoto on your Mac are not exactly the same. Each application has its own set of features.
As far as I know there is no way to sync the captions to your Mac from your iPad. You can suggest this feature by leaving feedback to Aple here

  • Photo titles in iPhoto

When I name (title) a photo in iPhoto 6.0.2, the title appears in the information window under title. If I go to Pictures/iPhoto Library/Originals/2006/, the album that I highlight has all of the pictures titled with a number, for example P101001.JPG, not the title I assigned. This means that when I burn the pictures to a disk, all I have is a list of numbers and not the names I assigned. Am I overlooking something? In previous versions of i Photo, my pictures all accepted the titles I assigned and they were transferred to Pictures/iPhoto Library/Originals/2006/, so either I am doing something differently or something has changed.

    Hi sbgsb,
As long as I have used iPhoto, titles you give images in iPhoto stay within iPhoto. they have never changed in the Finder.
To burn a roll of photos:
click on the roll title to highlight the photos in the roll
    Got to File>export
In the export window choose "title" as the naming scheme
    Create new folder on desktop
    Export into that folder
    Burn that folder

All the image titles I typed in my iPhoto album over the past years have suddenly disappeared and been replaced by image numbers!  Does anyone know why this happened or how to restore the titles?  This is a disaster!

  • Renaming Multiple photo titles in iPhoto

I work for a photographer who recently purchased a iMac. He wants to use iPhoto for importing and editing but he uses different flash cards and when the photos are imported there are multiple pictures with the same file name (example: IMG_0001) Is there any way to rename all of these files in an ascending order once they are in iPhoto?

You might be able to. After you import them add them to a single album and sort by date. That uses the EXIF Capture Date. Then select all of them and use the Photos->Batch Change->Title to Text and the option to add a sequential number. This will rename the title with the text you want with a sequential number following.
HOWEVER, these title changes are only in iPhoto. The original file name will remain unchanges. When you export a photo for use outside of iPhoto you can have iPhoto use the title as the new file name.
Has the photographer considered using a professional DAM (digital asset management) application. It would be a lot more powerful and versatile. I useMedia Expression which lets you sequentially rename the files by their EXIF Capture Date or with any text you'd like. I then use iPhoto for special projects, i.e. books, calendars, etc.
You can find out more about EM and other DAM applications at The DAM Forum.

  • Dispalying photo titles in iPhoto slideshows on Apple TV

Hi - I have created a slideshow in iPhoto and selected 'show titles' in the slideshow settings. The titles display fine when I run the slideshow from within iPhoto but fail to show when synced to and played through Apple TV (software version 2.3). Can anyone help?
    Thanks in advance

Seems like even more have this problem, and that it is attributable to 2.4:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2056738&tstart=15
Seems extraordinary that an Apple software "upgrade" turns out to be a downgrade and that customers aren't warned before accepting it. Perhaps there's a good reason for this which Apple will reveal in due course, but in the meantime, for customers who want their slideshow music, why can't Apple allow a rewind to 2.3 or an earlier upgrade, to a position somewhere between what's available from the factory reset and 2.4?
It would seem that Apple TV's functionality has declined as a result of 2.4 and that the product is no longer as good as it was. In fact, every Apple TV with earlier software would seem to work better than the current model. Apple seems to have gone backwards with 2.4, not forwards. Does anyone know if the folks at Apple care, or read these forums?

  • Titles on iPhoto pix sent to iDVD

I made a saved slideshow in iPhoto from scanned slides, sent it to iDVD. It had titles for pix displayed at bottom of pictures, very readable. A few months later I made another DVD using saved slideshows from iPhoto, but the titles were top left, nearly obscured on TV. As far as I can remember I used the same procedures. How can I get picture titles at bottom of pictures?

    Memory is getting small
By memory do you mean free disk space? How much free space do you have? It's strongly recommended that a minimum of 10GB free space be maintained (20 GB if you use iDVD a lot) for optimal system and application performance.
By searching for thumbnails can you explain further? Do you get a message?

  • Can you have different spine text colour from main title in iPhoto '11?

I've created an iPhoto book which has a full bleed image on the front cover, white font for the main title and the whole book background is white.  When I preview the book (using ctrl + click > Preview book), I see no title on the spine as both the font and background are white....  I can copy the text from the spine and see that it is there, just not visible as it's the same colour as the background.
So is there anyway I can set the spine text to be black with the front cover font remaining white?
    Thanks.

    Natalie,
You can create several master pages within one doc. There you can change the margins and lots of other things. Then you can apply these masters to your "normal" pages.
For the cover, I would advice to leave it apart, since you created a spine, but if your book is only going to be 20 pages the spine can be omitted. In this case, first page of your doc is the cover and the last page is the back.
It seems to me it's a saddle stiched booklet, so if "print ready" means imposed, you'll have to create a booklet. Make sure the complete book has 20 pages because if you print on both sides of the paper (let's say you made the doc on A4) the imposed booklet will be printed on A3 format (double A4).

  • How to set "Title" as "File Name" in iPhoto 5?

iPhoto lets you batch rename the title for your photo library of a given roll. So if you have say "Vacation" you can set title to all the photos in there as Vacation -1 , Vacation -2 etc. etc. But, this is just the title for iphoto database. The actual filename will still be as IMG_xxx.jpg (or whatever is default in your digital camera).
Is there a way to set the Title as File name ?? I already have 1000+ photos iphoto and title is all set as my Roll Name - xx . But it will be great to have file names set as the title too.
I think I can batch rename in Image Capture before downloading the files, but then I have to again import those in iPhoto , so its two step process and inconvenient.
So, does anyone know how to set File name as Title ( you can only do other way around in iPhoto, I think) ? Any script available which can read iPhoto title and set the file name as Title? Thanks.

    Hi kothrush,
You must rename in the Finder first, before importing into iPhoto.
You cannot do it after importing into iPhoto. Well, you can. You can share export the renamed images to the desktop. Delete the ones in iPhoto, then import the renamed ones back into iPhoto. That's a lot more steps.
Whatever you do, you cannot rename any images in the Finder that are already in the iPhoto Library or iPhoto will lose the link to the images.
