Titles on plasma screens

Hi everyone,
I have trouble with creating smooth titling for video work that gets shown on something as big as 62" Plasma screens.
The video work is a mix of DV footage, powerpoint slides and titling created in FCP and it all looks neat up to the point where I put it out as an mpg for the DVD and show it on those plasmas: the titling, mainly the one created in FCP looks really jagged and pixelated.
I tried to look up some previous posts on the subject and read that it has to do with Plasma screens working in progressive mode and causing problems to interlaced video.
I rendered the videos out in progress mode (after I tried usual interlaced) through compressor and tried various other options but it doesn't get any better. Is this something I have to live with once it gets to that size of viewing format or is there a specific title tool/plug in/ other application that I should use?
The final piece is loaded with text so of course it is kind of nice to be able to work on it in FCP as I have freedom to move the individual video layers around in case the client decides to change something afterall.
There is no problem from the original DV footage...it's just the titling which looks absolutely poor.

Thin fonts and serif fonts will tend to get a bit crunchy upon conversion to mpeg.
When you say "dv" do you mean 4:3? If you are working 4:3 and it is filling the screen on a 62" tv, it's getting blown up larger than screen resolution which will increase the jaggies. Plus interlacing issues as you mentioned...

From what I can tell it should just plug right into the VGA input on the TV...but my question is am I going to have any issues with resolution or anything like that?
Also, from the pictures it looks like the DVI to VGA adapter that apple offers is only like 3 inches long? Do they make them longer than this? I had planned on mounting the TV on the wall above my fireplace on an arm that tilts and swings out about 2-3 ft and just sitting the Mac Mini on the mantle...anyways I didn't want to go away on vacation, have my mom come over, adjust the TV, and send my Mac Mini to its untimely death:(

Could you please tell me the exact settings you have on your TV and your mac.
Under what menu are you selecting PC DVI?
What resolution and other settings do you have your mac set to?
Currently I have mine setup like so:
Mac Mini with mini dvi to dvi adaptor then a cable dvd to hdmi.
I then have that hdmi plug into port 2 of my tv that says (HDMI/DVI on it.
On the mac I have resolution set to 1920 x 1080 and i have overscan ticked.
The picture is OK but up close i would not say it is perfectly crisp (especially text) but from a about 6 feet away it seems fine.
Is the text on your screen pin sharp?

IMovie editing slow while MBP connected to Plasma Screen

Am newbie to MBP and iMovie
I am using the MBP connected to the 42 inch Plasma screen. I am getting frequent and prolonged spinning ball while editing in iMovie.
The raw DV footage is stored on Glyph EHD connected to MBP by FireWire 800 cable.
Is the slow functionality and frequent appearance of spinning ball due to connection to Plasma screen ? Is it because the MBP is slowly accumulating more and more footage while building the movie project in iMovie on the MBP hard drive ?
There should be no accumulation of DV files on the MBP hard drive until which time as I decide to burn the movie. Yes, No ?
What sort of interface or accelorator is available for install between MBP and Plasma to overcome this problem since this is a great way to edit.

That's not good. Were you barefoot and on a concrete floor? Or touching something else with the hand that wasn't touching the Mac?
It sounds like there could be mis-wiring in the walls...like a crisscross of neutral and ground. You might invest in one of those inexpensive house wiring detectors that they sell at hardware stores and see if it shows a fault when plugged into the same outlet where the TV plugs in.

Mac mini with a Panasonic 42" plasma screen

I am new to macs to bear with me.
I am trying to connect a mac-mini to a Panasonic 42" plasma screen (TH-42PX20)
According to the Panasonic manual the max resolution is 1024x768 with a 16:9 aspect ratio. The plasma screen connects to the mac with a D-Sub 15P connector (standard PC)
I select 1024x768 screen resolution and the image seems clear but there are things off the screen (top menu, bottom dash board). Is there a way to change the ascpect ratio? I tried the detect monitors option but that caused the screen to "white out" and never return with an image.

There is are a couple of programs available to solve your problem. One is "switchhresx". You can download it from "Versiontracker.com". There are lots of posts in this forum regarding its use and setup. Just do a search on "switchresx" and take your pick.

Using 1.920 x 1.080 pixel panasonic plasma screen with Mac Mini Intel

Do you know if i can connect a mac mini
with a belkin "dvi to hdmi" cable
to a panasonic plasma screen with a 1.920 x 1.080 resolution (screen 42 inches)?
I thought the screen was too big, but some friend told me that the resolution i supported by the mac mini.

Yes, specs-wise the TV is able to be driven by the Mac mini both via DVI and VGA.

Plasma Screen OK to test interlacing issues?

Having interlacing issues with my 24P footage and IMac monitor. If I output to my plasma screen, is this the same as any NTSC monitor in regard to checking/monitoring interlace issues?

Report Painter - title for selection screen

I have created a report for PCA within GRR1/2 transactions. When I run the report, at the initial screen where I select the period for example, there is no title on the screen, it just comes up as ": SelectioN". However when the report runs, I actually see the name of the report.
How do I add the name to the selection screen?

Is it possible to connect I pad to plasma screen for presentations if so what do you do

I would like to connect my iPad to plasma screen for presentation purposes I have the connetor but cannot get an image on my tv screen any comments

I have the componet (i.e. RCA plug) apple adapter and it will let me play music and movies onto my tv screen but it will not mirror the iPads screen on there.
I just ordered another componet cable and an HDMI adapter from apple so I will have one on each tv in my house. Still have two older style TVs in my house, only one LCD with HDMI and VGA.
So if you want to play something on the screen I would say the HDMI adapter probably. Next the VGA and don't really bother with the componet cable adapter.

Letterbox Plasma Screens

What is the best way to work with letterbox shaped plasma screens for a presentation of a film. I've never set one up. Do they do anything but that 4:3 stretched mode? Is there any tricks to editing in FCP, to optimize things for the plasma?

I found out how to change the timeline settings. Unfortunately I didn't shoot squeezed material. So I will keep searching. I just wanted to be able to save on bitrate by not having to mask the top and bottom. I'll figure it out. I think it will come in DVD studio or Compressor.

Try the following:
Instead of using two separate titles, you can use one and dynalically change this. for example :
If your first Screen 001 and second Second is 002. And if the text to be displayed is 'Welcome to Frist Screen' and Welcome to Second Screen'.
For this.
Create the title as
Welcome to &1 Screen
In the PBO Module of the screen.
IF sy-dynnr EQ '001'.
lv_text = 'First'.
ELSE.
lv_text = 'Second'.
ENDIF.
SET TITLEBAR test WITH lv_text.

When creating Gui title use placeholders(&1, &2 etc) in it.
*For example : * Change PO &1 by &2
And while setting title bar use WITH addition as;
lv_po = '40000023'.
lv_user = 'SAPABAP'.
SET TITLEBAR 'TIT1' WITH lv_po lv_user
Now in the title bar it will display as;
Change PO 40000023 by SAPABAP

Producing for the US on large plasma screens in Motion 3

I am producing a set of motion graphics for a client in the US. It is the first time I have produced content for a US client and need to know what is the best settings to use.
Motion graphics will be played back on plasma TV's (up to 42") and a projection screen (92")

Providing a DVD means MPEG2. There are hundreds of Web sites dedicated to producing godd MPEG2 images.
If you provide a QT file, you can give them the finest uncompressed 64 float video possible but if they can't play it back it won't matter.
But giving them really good video will let them transcode or convert to any other viable format such as BluRay or some proprietary hardware format. They may have access to a playback engine that you do not.

How to add a Title (slide? screen?) BEFORE the video track

I'm very new to Adobe Premiere Pro and I'm trying to figure out how to add a title to my project but I don't want the title on the start of the video in the sequence. I'd like to add it to a black screen, maybe with some transition effects, that will play prior to the video starting. Do I need to create a black image in CS and add it as a still and just add the title to the still which I can position before the video/audio track A starts?
I'm hoping that there's something I can do right within Premiere that will give me a place to put the title before my video starts. I didn't see an option to add a blank slide or something to that effect that I can add title to.

Thanks for the link.. like I said in my post, I'm brand new to the software and I've been watching and following guides for hours. Time is not on my side, I have a project that must be done by the end of this week and I have very limited time after work.
So when I have the head at the begining of my main track and click INSERT in the source monitor window it inserts a duplicate of the entire video so I have TWO videos in my sequence. This is clearly not what I'm wanting so I'm assuming that there's something I'm missing. I've searched google but don't see anything.
I'm just looking to add a black, blank screen that I can add a title to before my video begins. I realize this may be rudamentary to season vets but as I said, I'm very new and trying to learn this all quickly and I would really appreciate if someone could point me directly to some information about it. I'm not afraid to read and learn, hell I love it, but I'm pressed for time so someone just telling me, "go learn the software" with a link to a huge FAQ, doesn't really help me.
I've already learned a ton from some great guides but I have yet to have anyone indicate how to add extra footage (be it a still or blank video) directly from Premiere Pro.

EDIT: I think I figured it out... I just bumped the start of the main track up about 10 seconds and I added new item "Black Screen" right in front of it. I will add the title to this. Thanks all.

Added 54 movies to a submenu, how to organize titles on the screen?

i am having a hard time with this. i have like 54 movies i want to add to a single sub menu called 'movies. now, the titles dont appear well spaced. they all over lap. isnt there any way i can have iDVD organise all the titles automatically to if in a screen depending on the theme selected?

iDVD supports a max. of 15 entries per page..
plus, videoDVD has by standards a res of 720x480.. a TV is no computer screen , 54 elements would allow a few pixel per entry as 'button'.
follow Bevs advice and subdivide your clips into portions, your audience follows (e.g. May/June/July, backward/forward/across, earth/water/air.. ); create a menu, which links to further submenus.
