Titles Produced in Photoshop R Distorted

I am creating my own titles in Photoshop at 720X480 image size.  Bringing them into Premiere Elements they are distorted.  Please help.

Kippi,
I love the "easy ones!"
As I do most of my major Titles in PS, this is something that I deal with every day.
Similar crops up in the Encore forum, with Menus created in PS and then used in the DVD. The PAR bites a lot of folk. Think that it was with CS, that PAR was added to PS. Because of the display, PS will pop up a warning window, should you Open the Title (or a Menu) back in PS. I leave this on (can be turned off), just so that I am always reminded to check my PAR.
I also use the New Image Preset for my Project, say the NTSC 720 x 480 standard 4:3, PAR = 0.9 w/ Guides, to do my Titles, and my Menus. That gets me started and shows the Action Safe Area plus the Title Safe Area of the screen.
Good luck, and happy editing,
Hunt

  • Title Scroll using Photoshop

I'm attempting to do a title scroll for the end credits of a feature length film in Photoshop. I think I have it set up correctly in Photoshop (using Ken Stone's tutorial) but when I bring it into FCP it is SOOOOO teeny tiny that it is unreadable. I'm stumped! If I try to change the size using the wireframe it just gets big & blurry. I am monitoring on an external HDTV and it doesn't work anywhere. I've been scouring the message boards for more tips on doing a scroll this way but I am stumped. Any help?
    Thank you
    Carrie

We're using an HD format (960x720) - when I set it up that way in PS it doesn't work.
Without watching you work it's really hard to debug. The origin of your text file depends on your need for typographic tools and control. PS is fine for that. But most credit rolls are not continuous, they're actually two or more discreet pages that are traveling at exactly the same speeds so there is no apparent break between them.
Forget the realworld dimensions of your needs for now.
Create a document in PS that is 2000 pixesl tall and 500 pixels wide. Use a non-serif typeface at 36 pixels (points) and compose a random set of names and titles that more or less covers this document. Use white text. Save it over transparency.
Bring it into FCP project, drop it onto your timeline.
Double click it to open it into the Viewer, go to the motion tab and look at distorition and scale. Set scale to 100% and distortion to 0.
Now set two keyframes for the vertical travel.
    Render.
    Report back.
The two things you will have trouble with are trying to put effects in PS, don't, and pixel aspect distortion. There are books written about that, you're on your own there.

  • Photoshop CC distorted image when zoomed out. Text, edges and Straight lines.

I get this distorted image when working on a file. When I zoom in its fine. But as soon as I zoom out all the lines, text , and edges start to become distorted. I've checked that all my drivers are up to date. I've re installed photoshop and still the same thing. Any Suggestions. ( files look fine when saved or exported, this just happens while Im working )

That looks like a Moiré pattern.  Did you scan the image?
If not, can you tell us what operating system?
And is your video card driver fully up to date from the maker's website?

  • Titles created in Photoshop

Good evening my fellow film fans,
wonder if anyone can help with this query. I am creating some titles in Photoshop to import to iMovie as jpegs. Basically I need to be able to control the fade up and down a lot more than what I can do with the pre-installed iMovie versions.
Does anyone know what size I need to set the canvas in Photoshop to fit the widescreen in iMovie HD?
Sorry if this is not a totally iMovie question but, am hoping one of you kind souls will be able to help.
    Many thanks
    PG

    Good Evening PC Logo:
Since you are from the UK I will assume that you are requiring PAL information. With that said...
As you know, PAL DV clip is composed of 720 x 576 pixels that are wider than they are tall. Photoshop doesn't do non-square pixels. So Photoshop pics get 'squished'.
Fix that by stretching the frame back out again. Go to Image>Resize>Image Size and uncheck the Constrain Proportions checkbox. Enter 768 pixels in the width field. When you re-import the frame into iMovie, it will squeeze the frame back into its original 720 x 576 PAL DV proportions.
    Hope that helps a bit.

  • Why are my photoshop files distorted and not the tifs?

    Hi,
I've been importing tifs and photoshop files into my FCE project, and here's my problem. When I view the .psd file in my canvas viewer the still is squeezed and does not fill the entire frame with white background above and below the still. I then import the same file but resaved as a tif and it appears in the canvas frame in the correct aspect ratio. What is going on? (The image properties are 1920x1080 aspect ratio: square) This happens with all the .psd files that are imported into my FCE project. All imported tifs appear correctly.
Other info: I have started with a baseline photoshop template that is 1920x1080, aspect ratio: square. I saved the images either as a .psd file with one layer or tif with one layer. The reason for the .psd file is that I need to have some areas of transparency in my FCE project (I have overlays). Which leads to another question: If I need transparency within the still in FCE, can I save the file as a tif with "save transparency" box ticked on?
    Thanks for any info!

when saving as a png should interlaced be set to none?
Also regarding the tif images...I had been saving them, as a copy and under tiff options:
    image compression: none
    pixel order: interleaved
layer compression: discard layers and save a copy
I assumed that this tiff file would be one layer. Am I incorrect?
And I did a test save with "save transparency" ticked on and imported the image into FCE. It appears that the transparency is there when I view the still in the canvas window. Can I do it this way? Are there disadvantages/advantages to using png files rather than tiffs?
    Thanks!

  • "View- Sort Photos- By Title" produces WRONG sorting order!

    Hello,
I have a set of pictures named Scan 1.jpg, Scan 2.jpg, Scan 3.jpg, etc... up to Scan 102.jpg
They all belong to the same "Event" in iPhoto.
When I am inside that Event, I need them to be sorted by their name (Scan 1, Scan 2, Scan 3, etc).
So I choose the option: View->Sort Photos->By Title
However, that shows pictures in the wrong order, as follows: Scan 1, Scan 10, Scan 100, Scan 101, Scan 102, Scan 11, Scan 12, Scan 13, etc, Scan 19, Scan 2, Scan 20, Scan 21, Scan 21, etc... The logic is clear but it is wrong!
Finder recognizes the correct order of files, named in such way, so why doesn't iPhoto?!
Please suggest if you have any solutions OTHER than renaming the original files to Scan 001, Scan 002, etc. I assume that would work, but I really would hate to spend time on renaming. There must be an easier way. I am surprised that iPhoto makes this mistake in the first place - I remember coming across this issue during Windows Explorer times. When I switched to Mac it was a pleasant surprise that Finder understands in such situations that the order should be 1, 2 3, 4, 5 etc and not 1, 10, 100, 11, 110, 111, 12, etc. What a disappointment to bump into that bug in iPhoto! I hope there is a solution. Please advise!
    Thanks everyone in advance.

That's been an issue with several apps for a while. You can batch rename the titles in iPhoto using the Photos ➙ Batch Change ➙ Title to Text menu option with the check box checked to add a sequential number to each photo.
You can always revert back to the original file name using the same menu option.

ADOBE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS HORRIFIC!  I'VE BEEN ON HOLD TWICE FOR 1.5 HOURS.  ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I NEED TECH SUPPORT - AND NOT ONE PERSON IS THERE TO HELP.  SERVICE IS THE WORSE I'VE EVER EXPERIENCED IN MY LIFE.

Regarding Adobe customer service and tech support, Adobe only supports the current version of Photoshop, which is CS6.
These forums are user to user forums.  We're all users here.
That being said, as an avid Mac user since 1984, I can categorically assure you that Apple's iPhoto does not play nice with Adobe applications.
Curt's remark about iPhoto hiding your actual images in "libraries" is right on target.  If you can see the file icon without opening the application package (please refer to Apple's documentation for instructions of how to Open a Package by Control-clicking [or right-clicking with a two-button mouse] on the application package icon in the Finder) you are not looking at your original or full-resolution file.  You're just looking at the low-resolution JPEG preview embedded in the file for display purposes.  Attempting to edit or manipulate that image in Photoshop would be futile.
Beside the suggestion to upgrade Photoshop, I can only offer you my personal opinion that, from the point of view of an Adobe Photoshop user and Macintosh fan, iPhoto is an unmitigated piece of cr@p, plain and simple.

  • Add image to title produces blurred rectangle

Premiere Elements 8.0.1 running on Win7-64
If I try to add a jpeg image to a title as described by http://help.adobe.com/en_US/PremiereElements/8.0/Win/Using/WSA4307130-118B-44a7-9A27-9B62C 50A1F35.html then all I get is a light blue rectangle with fuzzy edges.
If I uncheck "drop shadow" then the fuzzy lightblue rectangle disappears, and left is a rectangle showing the image boundaries. But te image itself is not visible. "Bring to front" makes no difference.
How is this supposed to work?

I used "Right-click in the Monitor panel and choosed Image > Add Image"
I didn't add it to a text box. The Title didn't contain any graphics object when I added the image

  • Transitions and titles in iMovie 06 create distorted audio

I'm trying to edit together some video and all of a sudden iMovie 06 is making a weird garbled, popping noise over the audio track of the video when it's playing a transition or title. I have absolutely no idea what could have cause this, I have been using the program for a while and this just happened out of the blue. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

iMovie's preference files can easily become corrupted. I can't say for sure, but that might be your problem. Try closing iMovie and then trashing the file com.apple.iMovie.plist found in User/Library/Preferences. iMovie will create a new preference file upon relaunch. Before relaunching, also do a permissions repair using the Utilities/Disk Utility app on your Mac.

  • Title Quality in FCP 6

I have been trying to produce a DVD with output from FCP. I have used FCP export to compressor with the DVD 60 minute best quality setting and then imported into DVD Studio Pro. I have also tried exporting a QT and using iDVD. The problem I have is that the white of the type against the black in the end credits has an "eaten away" effect. part of the white of the letters is missing.
What is the problem with titles in Final Cut? Is it that Final Cut's title tool really isn't very good? It seems to me that titles are fine if you print to tape, but if you are processing the media in any way, as is required with a DVD, the titles don't hold up.
What is an alternate method for creating titles for a Final Cut sequence so that they will hold up once the media is processed as a DVD? It's a shame to have a decent looking production and then drag it all down with poor quality title images.
If the answer is live type, can anyone provide tips on how to make simple STATIC titles using this tool?
Or is it that the title card needs to be produced using Photoshop and then imported as a graphic? If this is the answer, what are the specs of the required .jpg or .pct file?
Thanks in advance for any advice on these points!

Boris is in FCP 6. I use it everyday since the Text Generator doesn't list font families correctly.
One tip I find works for me: I sometimes find that by gaussian bluring my text by 1 pixel, it tends to take the compression of DVD and Digital broadcast much better. This is especially true with smaller text. On yor mac, it may look to soft, but on a nice broadcast monitor, you'll see that 1 pixel blur is usually superior to straight text.
Digital compression engines (such as MPEG2 in DVD) don't respond well to detail that changes dramatically in the space of just a few pixels. When the compression engine sees this, it creates small, blocky areas around the area of fine detail which aren't really that visible in normal footage.
However, with type over static surfaces, such artifacts are more visible since our eyes are used to seeing clean edges around type and notice when this is not the case.
Bluring the text slightly will soften the edges of the text and make is so the compression engine doesn't have to create artifacts. This is because the blurred text will have a less dramatic change from pixel to pixel.
Also you can work around this problem using better compresion techiniques, but that is another discusssion.

  • Help please with sound problems with titles in iMovie HD/iDVD

I find on a DVD I am creating that certain titles produce brief, grating noises when once the DVD is burned.
I am unable to hear these noises in iMovie HD.
I have tried re-importing the video and doing all the captions again ~ but the result is always the same: these loud distortions of the audio, but only on a couple of the titles.
By the way, I have found that by setting the volume to 60% on the regular video and setting it to 140% on the clips with titles, I get a result on the burned DVD where the volume appears constant. I have never understood why putting on a title should diminish the volume: seems like a serious weakness in this software.
But right now, it's these unwanted noises that are spoiling my project.
    Any answers?

    Hi again Sue.
I've just gone and read that reference.
No, I've tried extracting the audio and re-doing the title, but when I burn the DVD (and you know how long that takes) I find on playback I have these grating noises.
I suppose I should be grateful they are only brief and affect only a few of the many titles.
Thanks though for taking the trouble to try and help.

  • What on Earth is the matter with titles and duplicating?

I'm just about fed up with this amateurish product passing itself off as a professional tool.
I can't fathom how this thing has gotten past version 8 with such blatant bugs-
Make a title.  Duplicate it.  Change the copy.  Original changes in final render.  But it doesn't in the timeline.  In the timeline, it shows up correctly.
Then go to edit the copy.  The original title appears behind it.  Sometimes.  Not always.
There is no logic to this.  Timeline shows one thing, render shows another... why on Earth should copies even influence one another?
After wrapping this ~30 min video- the first long form I've ever tried with Premiere -I'm canceling my CC subscription.  This is an absolute piece of garbage and it's been one illogical (or flat our broken) feature after another.
What a nice and eye-opening welcome it's been to Adobe's engineering chops outside of Photoshop.

    Duplicate - produces problem above.
    Copy/paste - produces problem above.
New title based on current title - produces problem above.
I've now tried every single method outlined here:
Adobe Premiere Pro Help | Creating and editing titles
short of templating the thing, which is next.
How you guys continue to work with this thing is beyond me.

  • Photoshop or Illustrator to create bumps like a cupcake would have?

Which is better to use? Photoshop or Illustrator to make the bumpy lines a "flat" (ex. think of the shadow of a cupcake maybe) cupcake icing at the top would have? Like this except more professional looking (made this in a couple minutes):
And how would I make it?

I prefer Photoshop, because a) I am shite with Illustrator, and b) IMO a thing like this is all about shadows and highlights, with pretty much no lines at all.  So my version started with a number of vertical black lines, which I copied and inverted.  That gave me the case flutes, so I Free Transformed using Perspective to taper the two layers.
The wavy lines are something I could not have done so easily even a week ago, as they were very easily produced using the new Distortion effect in Lazy Nezumi.  That tool is the best $20 add on for Photoshop by miles.  I just laid an arbitrary sine wave across the page, and used FT to match the pitch to the case, and Warp > Curve to make the curve.  The lines were used to mask the case to, and then turned off.
The pink top started with a flat ellipse filled with pink.  That layer was copied three times and spaced out using the Move > Align tools.  Then FT to make the perspective.
OK, it did get just a tiny bit tricky here, but only because you need a lot of layers, and need to keep track of them.  I made a selection of all four layers combined, and used that to add a layer mask to all the topping layers.
Each pink oval has two versions - one sharp, the other blurred, so I could have a soft transition between the layers.
The hard versions also have drop shadows, which are there to give the shadows between the pink layers.  I had to rasterize all those drop shadows with Create Layer, so I could mask out the over flow, but the afore mention layer mask took care of most of that.
It would be nice if I could have used Layer styles for the highlights, but that would have been tricky because of the curves, so I ran a straight white line which I FT'd to shape and then blurred.
The cherry is all layer styles.
Hundreds & Thousands used brush dynamics. 100% scatter jitter.  100% Hue jitter.  Fully hard brush.  The the smallest drop shadow I could manage to make them look real.
There is an upside down drop shadow on the case layer, to make the pink top look like it is overflowing the case, and a tiny Bevel & Emboss because it looked better.
Two shadows beneath the case, one hard and small, and one big and soft.  That is the minimum I'd do for shadows.
About an hours work, but if I wasn't doing that, I'd be practicing some other way, and if we didn't enjoy the process, we wouldn't be here.
