Titles with background matte

I'm working on a bi-lingual doco with lots of subtitles, using 'Text' in the text generator of FCP... I'd like to create an opaque background matte but it seems this isn't an option - although it's available for 'lower third' text... I've already done half of the titles and we're approaching deadline - I'd really like a means of quickly applying a background matte to the existing titles/footage... does anyone know of a way? It seems bizarre that it's not an option... and that, if it were an option, each change has to be applied individually rather than select and apply to all...

where are you placing the color matte? it needs to be on a separate video track, between your video layer and your subtitles layer eg
v3 subtitles
v2 color matte (strap)
v1 background video
you need to make sure that all three layers are visible ... sorry for stating the obvious but you may have mistakenly toggled monitoring off for the matte track and/or toggeled off the 'Enabled' property for that clip (right click the clip in the timeline and check that "Clip Enabled" has a tick next to it)
also make sure that you have not mistakenly cropped the matte out of existence, or set the opacity to 0% ... in this regard it may be more useful to start again

Hi all, If I have for example, a image of the desert for the background. And then I have a logo I want to add over it. And that logo comes with a matte and fill. How do I composite that over the desert image ? I've tried working with the (add image mask). But I cant fiqure it out.
Again there are 2 seperate files for the matte and fill.

Apply the image mask to the fill (select the fill layer, and choose Object > Add Image Mask). Then drag the matte layer into the well in the HUD (heads up display) and set it to Luma rather than the default of Alpha in the HUD's pop-up menu.

Black title with clip audio

Hi!
I started using iMovie 11 and I'm having a small issue with it.
I want to finish my project by fading to a black screen and having then text appearing on the screen, but keeping the audio of the clip.
I've tried to drop a title AFTER a clip but it does then cut the audio. I've also dropped a title ON a clip but then it doesn't have a fade to black background.
What I did until now is cut my clip in 2 parts, put a fade to black transition and tried to change the video options of the second clip to make it appear black. The result is not that good as I can't make the background full black (there's still some blue somewhere).
Any chance there's an easy and proper way to do that that I've missed?

Filling with background color

hi, i am trying to do something that paints some controls on the screen, and if a control reacts in a certain way, it should be repainted. the problem is, some controls are small, so instead a 'repaint' handler for all the screen, it would be nice to just repaint the part that changed
in other words, instead of
graphics.clear();
repaint_all();
i would like to have something like
graphics.beginfill(ERASE, 1);
erase_component();
redraw_component();
which i believe would be faster. the reason i can not just say 'fill with background colour' is beacuse 1. background color can be arbitrary, (though it would be nice to have a flash-provided constant or a maccro called BACK_COLOR or something), and 2. because in this case in particular, the background may be a picture (bmp, jpeg whatever) in a sprite below. if i paint a solid block, the block will not erase but instead appear as a block over the background picture. is there anything in flash as an 'erase' fill?
2. (not related with question title). how do i a. turn off all default options in right click menu (except the 'about flash', wich can not be turned off if running player as stand alone), and b. add a custom item in right click menu

Background matte for DSP transitions

Using the fire burst in Motion and trying to find out how to create and export a background matte to use in DSP for that transition. i have the fireburst.mov done and now trying to figure out how to create the fireburst-matte.mov for the other part of my transition. Thanks

Well, I halfway solved it using a workaround. Rather than having the Start transition asset being Default, I made a still of the main screen, and set that to be it. The only disadvantage is that the main menu is in motion so the action pops to the still, interrupting the animation. But this is what happens anyway with all the built-in transitions, which is why I guess they're not the best thing to use with motion menus.
Still, I don't really understand why there's a mismatch. It seems like a flaw or bug in the way DVDSP converts a video frame to a still on the fly, because, again, the background clip is progressive, not interlaced.

ERROR while uploading the data into ztable with background processing

Screen light auto turn dark when I use program/web with background dark in windows 8.1

I used HP Pavilion dv6t-6000 CTO Quad for 3 years.
CPU: Intel core i7-2630QM
GPU: AMD Radeon 6490m
It build in windows 7 and I manual install ( fresh install ) windows 8. It's fine. But when I upgrade to windows 8.1, it have an issue and I really hate it.
When I use "Sublime Text" ( with background is black ), the screen light is become darker. And when I back to ( e.g: a website with background is white ), the screen turn back to lighter.
I tried many ways, included 4 ways here but it's NOT WORK.
NOTE: When I used Option 1 ( upper )
1. Open PC settings, and click/tap on PC and devices on the left side
2. Click/tap on Power and sleep on the left side, and turn on or off Adjust my screen brightness automatically on the right side under Brightness.
==> It's NOT SHOW button "Adjust my screen brightness automatically". It mean: I have NO built in auto brightness sensor.
I think this issue is about AMD driver or Intel Graphic driver.
Is anybody have idea???

i grasp that after updating your system from Windows 8 to 8.1 you are having an issue with the display going dim.
You have tried some steps you located on the web but there was no change.
Windows 8 an 8.1 are not supported Operating Systems for your notebook. This does not mean they will not work only that HP has not tested it and therefore does not supply updated drivers. You would need to check the manufacturer's site for any updated drivers.

When I checked the driver page for your notebook I did notice there is a bios update, have you done that?

How to add the text box with background color in Acrobat 9 Pro ? (Urgent)

I have previously used the Callout tool to add the comments in a PDF file, but the comments were difficult to read as some of them were mixed with the pictures just shown below. Therefore , I hope that there's a tool that can create the box with background color, but I cannot find such tool. What should I do ? Hope to get the answer ASAP, as it's very urgent !
P.S. The picture below is represent the problem: the comment are difficult to read.

In the properties of the callout comment you can change the fill color.

FF36: Sites with background image flickers/flashes when going back to tab after 2 minutes.

Figure I'll mention this here as well.
When viewing websites with background images, such as twitter.com or my own website at www.markheadrick.com and I change to another tab for 2 minutes (this amount of time is repeatable anyway) I get a flicker of a black background before the page is fully drawn. If I have multiple tabs with the same background image, only the first tab will show the flicker. It's like it's loosing the image in memory or something. It has done this with Firefox in Safe Mode and with a new, clean profile. It has also done this with Hardware Acceleration off.
Windows 7 Pro 64bit w/ NVidia 550ti and 314.22 drivers. Newer drivers are more problematic which is why I have stayed with these.
Again, only pages with background images seem to show this flicker. Did not happen with Firefox 35 on my system.

PDF printing of web-pages WITH background?

How do I make it possible to have the background image/pattern/colour etc. of a web-page included when I "print" to PDF?
Whenever I print a web page with something in the background other than white it's missing in the PDF file. This happens in my daily-use browser (Seamonkey), but also in Safari. However, in iCab (http://www.icab.de/) the background is included in the PDF file, so at least it's possible in MacOS. I just can't find any settings for it.

Another neat trick I found is that you can save the different settings. Just go to the "presets" part of the print menu, then save the current setting. For example by naming it "PDF printing with background".
Then turn off the background colour/image/pattern and save it as a new preset (e.g. "Print (to paper)").
That way you don't need to waste lots of ink, but at the same time you'll get the complete web-page with background and all when you save it as a PDF file. Just remember to select the right preset before you "print".

Can you replace the Glossy Screen with the Matte Screen on a 2008 Macbook Pro?
Where would I get a Matte Screen for a reasonable price if I could change it?

There are a number of issues you should consider before embarking on this project.
1. If you have a late-2008 unibody MBP, you are undoubtedly aware that there was never any anti-glare option offered for that machine. So there is no anti-glare display that was made to work with it.
2. If you choose to replace only the LCD panel and not the entire display assembly — which is probably feasible but involves a great deal of painstaking work — you will also need to buy (separately) the aluminum bezel that takes the place of the glossy cover glass panel in models that came equipped with the nonglare screen. The bezel covers and protects the edges of the LCD and the delicate electronic connections there, and hides all that from view.
3. If you go that route, you will have to make sure that the cabling related to the display you are installing is identical to the cabling related to your original display. This means checking to make sure the cable lengths, connectors and routing both within the display assembly and hinge cover and within the lower case of the computer are all the same.
4. If you choose to replace the entire display assembly with one that contains a nonglare LCD, you will have the entire, intact glossy display assembly available to sell afterward. If you replace only the LCD panel, the LCD and glass cover panel that you remove will have much less resale value and are likely to be much harder to sell at all, because you won't practically be able to offer any warranty with them and because there are probably far fewer people willing to tackle the fussy, risky display disassembly process than are willing to replace the whole assembly as a unit.
5. Even if you choose to replace the entire assembly, you will need to verify that the cables dangling from the replacement display assembly are the right lengths and have the right connectors to tie into your lower case properly. Because the assembly will have come from a later MBP model than yours, cable routing and connectors may have changed from one to the other.
If this all sounds more daunting than you were expecting, you may want to consider just applying a nonglare film to the glass covering your present screen. If you aren't happy with the results, you can fall back on the replacement option.

Merge with Background Intermittent Problem

I would appreciate some help with an intermittent problem I've been experiencing with version 6 and 7 of Captivate.
Sometimes the merge with background option just doesn't work, the image disappears whilst others times it works perfectly. I cannot identify the reason behind this. Sometimes it takes a save or a preview of the project before it will do the merge and sometimes it just will not work.
I am not using any Master slide objects on top or the master slide background and it happens in many different projects.
Sometimes some slides it will work on and not others. If anyone has any ideas what the reason behind the option working or not could be I would be grateful to hear them.

Sadly I still haven't found the cause for this and in fact the other day just part of the image was disappearing when I did the merge. I just have to leave the image as a separate entity until it merges properly or in some cases permanently.

Looking to create fully editable PDF files with background images

Selective replace foreground-color with background-color

Hi,
I'm new to Photoshop and coming from paint shop pro (psp).
Now I have to recolor a black dotted arrow in a bitmap to red.
All other contents are black, too. In psp there is a tool/brush to
replace foreground-color with background-color. So I'd select
black as foreground-color and red as background-color, hover
with cursor over the area to recolor and that's it.
How to do it with Photoshop?

Can you clarify this? It sounds like you have a black arrow on a black background.
