Titling in AE, or Premiere or PS?

A bit of a newbie question here; I should know this.  Anyway, where should I do my titles?  Should I do them in AE, Premiere, or PS?  I know how to use all 3 programs.  I have already done these tests by creating 1920x1080 24p projects in both Premiere and AE, using the same settings, same text, same fonts and sizes.  My eye seems to think that the AE titles look a bit crsiper than the Premiere titles do on my 50" Plasma.  If that's true and I do all my HD titles in AE, but then export them to my larger Premiere project, won't they then be rasterized by Premiere and subsequently look worse?  Does this sound correct?
Thanks,
Ragnar

Szalam, thanks for the reply.  I do want my text to do a lot of things so I'll use AE; I was just wondering if AE text is better quality than Premiere or PS, as in, I think it is vector based so I wouldn't get jaggies.  As for output, I exported all tests as an uncompressed AVI.

  • Problems with the Title Option in Adobe Premiere

I am having a problem with this option because when it shows the title panel, it is very incomplete; it doesn't have as many option as it had before, such as color or shape options. It started happening when I tried to blur our somebody and pick an hoxigonal shape from the panel and a sign showed up saying that there was a problem and then the program would shut down and wouldn't open later on unless I restarted the computer. Now, it opening without any problem but the title panel is still very basic.

What the other users have said is correct. Premiere captures through FireWire or through SDI/HDMI via a 3rd party solution.
For your situation I would say the best bet is to connect you camera to your computer via USB or use a card reader and copy the entire directory to your hard drive and ingest into Premiere via Media Browser.
If you Google 'how to make stop motion in premiere pro' there are tons of great tutorials.

  • Utilizing "Keylines" to help make titles Broadcast safe in Premiere Pro

    Hello,
I'm using the following great link provided by Bill Hunt to help make titles downrezzed from HD to SD look reasonably good.
    http://library.creativecow.net/articles/hodgetts_philip/titles.php
I have a question about the screen shot below, taken from the above link:
I understand the concept of "keylines" here, however I am unsure how to make that happen within my menu of title options.
Does this have an alternate name in Premiere Pro?  My search for "keylines" in the help menu was unavailing.
Also, within this frame, what do the numbers "80 - 204/204/204" mean?
    Thanks!
    Matt

    Matt,
In that usage, the term should be Stroke. In design terms, "Keylines" are thing lines, as could be used to separate a sub-headline from body text, or create a box around type/graphics. They are thin, and are often seen, when one uses a Stroke in AI. There, it means a tiny Stroke. In most other programs, the term is just a Stroke, and that is what you will see in PrPro's Titler, and many other programs. I can see the confusion here.
    Hope that helps,
    Hunt

  • Title Presets missing. Premiere Pro CS6

My title presets are missing in premiere pro, This occurs when I go to create a title and no presets are available. I have downloaded adobe encore CS6 fucntional content and Adobe Prtemire Pro CS6 Functional Content, as suggested by adobe and other forums. I just want title templates/preset to make workflow easier. I hope there is a simpel solution rather than a string of intricate procedures.

Hi Chris. We are looking into it and will update accordingly.

  • New Title Tool for Adobe Premiere Pro

VisTitle is not a new title tool definitely. But it is newly compatible with Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 & CC. If you are looking for a quick & powerful title application, VisTitle would be a perfect choice.
Now VisTitle 2.5 Trial Version is available. Here is the link: http://www.vistitle.com/ListDownLoad.asp?ID=62.
Anyone who has installed with Adobe NLE system is more than welcomed to download and test it. And if you have any feedback, please let me know.

There are also lots of tutorials on how to use it on YouTube.  They are mainly made using EDIUS, since that was the first program to work with Vistitle, but once you get past the part of adding titles to the timeline, the main interface is the same.

  • Using AE titles in Premiere Pro movie

I used Dynamic Link from Premiere Pro (CS5) to AE to create titles for a video (~2hours) I created.  The problem was I made AE the size of my movie with titles throughout the timeline.  When I went to render in Encore, Premiere Pro would crash after an hour or so.  I ended up removing the AE titles all together, and everything rendered fine.
My question: Is there a way to use AE titles without having to create multiple AE comps for each title to link into Premiere Pro?  For example, my 2 hour movie has 20 titles - will I have to dynamically link to AE 20 different times?
    Thanks in advance.

Yes. Its really no big deal if you are familiar with using AE in a dynamic link relationship with PrP.

  • Titles Freezing Movie Clips in Premiere 9

The video portion of my movie clips keep freezing when I add a title to it in Premiere 9.  The audio portion continues playing without issues, only the video portion seems to be affected.   Any thoughts?

Thanks for the help.  I have looked at the information and will review it all again.
I just spent another 2 hrs. + trying to still resolve the problem.  I have started a new project, I uninstalled and reinstalled with their people, and when I was told a higher lever technician would get back to me in 3-4 days, I started to politely demand some kind of explanation for taking my valuable time.  I have used Premiere Elements for years and now, after being told by their techs to upgrade to PE9, I am have a time-consuming issue.
So now, as it has been explained to me, they are going to look through the system log and try to discover from the "errors" what is causing this to continue.  It has been established twice there is nothing wrong with my computer.  Everything is upgraded, etc.
So, we shall see.  In the meantime, I will review the information you sent.  Thanks again!
    I will keep you informed!

    Welcome to the forum.
Not sure that we can help more than Adobe T/S, but this http://forums.adobe.com/thread/792580?tstart=0 has proved very helpful, when others have experienced crashes or hangs.
The first half of the article is devoted to the main causes of crashes. Beyond that, the links provide many troubleshooting tips, and rather work up in "order of difficult,."before culminating in The Case of the Unexplained, that offers some in-depth MicroSoft tips and also tools.
    Good luck, and that helps,

  • Feature Requests - Title Names Reflect Text Used in Actual Title - Allow Unique Duplicate Titles

I would like to request a feature for the titles in Adobe Premiere. In After Effects, when you type out a title, that title's name becomes the first few words of whatever you typed. In essence, the title automatically names itself whatever the text is.  It's super handy and makes creating multiple titles a breeze because it eliminates the extra step of having to actually name your title something unique. I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to see Premiere adopt this.  It makes a lot of sense and would save users a ton of time when working with title heavy projects.
Also, in After Effects when you duplicate a title inside the timeline, it becomes it's own unique title file.  In Premiere it just becomes a linked mirror of the duplicate, so any text changes you make to either file will result in a text change in the other.   I'm not crazy about this. I wish the titles would just become their own unique file when duplicated, so you can just move down the timeline creating text files quickly and easily by duplicating your previous title and moving on.  This is how After Effects does it and how Final Cut 7 used to do it.
Premiere is not very efficient at creating titles.  In large projects that require a lot of titling, it would be nice to be able to just select a title in the timeline, duplicate it, change the content inside and have the name of the new file reflect the new content. It would also be nice if the duplicated title was its own title and not linked in anyway to the duplicate.

Thanks Kevin, I went and did that.
And yes Jerry, it is in the timeline that I believe this feature would be the most helpful.  I am aware that you can do it in the project panel, which is what I have been doing.  In text heavy projects, having to go back and forth to the project panel over and over again can be cumbersome.  It would be nice if I could just live in the timeline without having to constantly mouse over to the project panel.  When you're doing over 25 titles, it gets a little tedious.

  • Simplest way to make Motion Title Template

I'm transitioning from FCP/Suite to Adobe Suite and am ironing out the 'why doesn't X work' frustrations one by one pretty successfully...except for when it comes to Titles.
For one of my clients, I have created a rather basic lower third template so I can quickly do multiple titles for segments that contain 5-12 interviews. Basically it's a short 6 second Quicktime lower third animated movie with text fading in/out. Very basic. Very easy to create in both Motion and After Effects. And in Motion/FCP I could save it as a template and then use it repeatedly (even copy and paste it within a sequence to save time).
I am having a devil of a time doing something similar in Premiere Pro. Through various readings on the forum I've learned that the Title function in PP is limited to stills. I've read suggestions to create a mini-project and import it (and the sequence) into whatever new project I'm creating.
Problem I keep coming across is that no matter what I do, I can only create one title this way as any secondary copy references the original and any change to one, changes them all (changing the name, for example).
So far the only thing that seems to work is creating individual titles in After Effects (changing the name/title) and saving them individually and importing them individually into PP. Which is very time consuming.
As I want to have the text fade in and out, creating a template for the text doesn't really do any good as I have to apply fade in/out at the appropriate spots.
Honestly, this is the major reason I have not fully commited to Premier Pro as I do too much of this kind of work and it takes a lot longer in PP than in FCP to do titles effectively.

First of all, I use After Effects to create motion in my lower thirds, but it you just want to set up the motion part in Ae and then change the text in Premiere Pro, that is easy enough. You are just missing a step.
You didn't say which version of Premiere Pro you are using. There are significant changes regarding this topic in CC.
In CS6, you just need to open a title that you want to copy, and before you change anything, select the "New Title Based on Current Title" button in the upper left of the title window.
In Premiere Pro CC (latest upgrade required) you can just use the instructions found here to duplicate the title so a new title will be created for you automatically. Much easier.

  • Why won't text and graphics line up in adobe premiere?

Hey, I have been out of the editing thing for about 8 years now. I recently needed to make a video for another business I run.
Anway, I am using animated / still graphics and the basic text titles that come with premiere. I see that the graphics line up correctly behind the text in the Previews Folder. When I render it, the text has shifted down completely. Also, the text and graphics look horrible after it's rendered, very pixelated. I used to be a pro at this stuff and in fact, I would use flash to import my animated graphics. But it seems that doesn't work anymore either. (That would probably solve this problem too). Anyone know why this is taking place in the final render??
I would much rather you ask the questions before i post all sorts of unnecessary info.
    Premiere Pro 1.5.1
    Thanks!

    1. not sure what you mean by "preset". The project settings are:
    General -
    Capture - DV 1394 -
    Video Sequence -
    Default Sequence -
    2. The dimensions of the stills are 2000x2000, *.png
3.Titles - I do not align them here, I align them in the effects controls
    4. Screen Cap
    5. Export settings
    6. That article is nice, but not what I'm needing. remember, the preview clips shows everything perfectly lined up. but the final export shows all the text being shifted down.
Thanks for the reply, I look forward to a response and I hope these answer your questions.

  • Premiere makes imported images & movies blurry

I have imported a number of video and art files (.mov, .jpg & .png) into premiere and everything I import is blurry in the preview view and when exported. It also does this with any text titles I generate inside premiere. I have it set to the highest quality settings so I'm not sure if there's anything else that I can do to make it look like what it looks like if I open the image or movie outside of premiere, which is nice and sharp.

    par: 16:9
    fields: lower fields first
dimensions: I can't seem to find the article again but I found an article on resizing a project by hacking the project file and changing the dimensions in it. I did that to try and keep the dimensions proportional to the default 720x480. The reason is because some of my video had stuff in the frames around the edges that I didn't want. The only way to get rid of it was to either scale up the video (which I didn't want to do due to loss of quality) or make the project dimensions smaller. That way I could then scale down the video just enough to crop out the edge stuff.

  • Premiere Pro CC 2014 seems to  Corrupt projects created with earlier versions

I have opened  in PPro CC 2014  projects created in PPro CS6  or PPro CC. Every time  PPro crashed and got the message " PPro Debug Event - PPro encountered a major problem and has stopped working" After that the project seemed corrupted and could not be opened even in earlier versions.
    I get the following message

Premiere Pro has encountered an error
    [c:\caravan\releases 2014.09\shared\adobe\mediacore\mediafoundation\api\incK... (can't read the res...)
Then there is a "continue" button if I hit this button I get the following window
Following a serious error PPro must shut down. The program will try to record your current project.
    Has anyone encountered this problem?
I don't dare open any old project. help!

    Hi there!
I´ve updated to latest version and then opened my project and got this error.
Then I found in a forum that I should delete the ADOBE folder in \my documents
I´ve deleted and then I could open the file again.
But the .MP4 and some other video files doesn´t open.
I saw that the 'Effect Presets and Custom Items.prfpset' file on \my documents\adobe\premiere Pro\8.0\Profile-myprofilename was causing the error.
I also saw in other forum that I should rename Adobe folder to old.adobe from \userfolder\appdata\roaming and \userfolder\appdata\local but this hasn´t solved the problem.
I tried also to reinstall Quicktime and K-Lite Codec Pack but the problem persists.
    Have you found any solution??
    Regards

  • Title tool VideoFrameFactory error message and crashing

I have located a few mentions of this error among other users, but no Adobe response and no clear solution. In PP CS6, I am now getting a an error message every time I open the title tool: ../../src/VideoFrameFactory.cpp-78. About half the time it also crashes. Frustrated! I am trying to complete a two minute video and this portion is taking hours as I keep needing to open up the title tool related panels and to re-start the computer. Please help if you can.

I too have been having the same issue for weeks now.
    I'm using Premiere CS6 6.0.3 creative cloud.  VideoFrameFactory.cpp-78
Whenever I open a title, or make a new title, I receive the error.    Then I can do one of 2 things...
    1.  I can close the title, it will save, and then I can exit Premiere and restart Premiere.  Upon opening a title, I will get the error message again.
    2.  I can open another Title (instead of closing Premiere).  I will then get the same error message (videoframefactory.cpp-8), but then Premiere will crash.  This is 100% occurance rate... If I receive the error, and I dont want premiere to crash, I must exit before opening another title.
I have seen this posted since 2010.  Any chance of a fix?  I tried various other leads... such as font re-installs, and deleting a WorkspaceConfig file.  No luck with either of these.   Also tried a few iterations of Nvidia drivers, uninstall and reinstalls.
Any chance of  some assistance?  Has anyone else found a fix?   Every day I use the creative cloud, it feels more and more like I'm paying a monthly fee to be a beta tester...

  • Rendering Engine (Transcoder) in AE vs. Premiere Pro

    Hello,
I have some pretty title-intensive footage that I shot in HD that didn't come out to well after I downrezzed it in Premier Pro with the expert guidance of Jeff, Bill and others.
So we can be pretty sure I performed that export in Premiere Pro competently.
But I recall that AE has far greater capability to work with titles and text than Premiere Pro, so it stands to reason that the transcoder of AE may well render and downrez text better than Premiere Pro.  Additionally, an experienced user asserted that the transcoder in AE has much to recommend it.
Here is a sample of the title-intensive, colored data streams I am trying to downrez to SD, with limited success in Premiere Pro.
All these text streams are streaming in different directions.  I admit that can be pretty challenge to downconvert.
FOR THE RECORD, these titles are pretty much broadcast safe, pursuant to a link about downrezzing titles to SD provided by Bill Hunt.
    Any thoughts?
How does the transcoder of AE differ from that of Premiere Pro?
    Thanks!
    Matt Dubuque, Twitter Time

DownRez has a bunch of meanings. If by downrez you meant going from HD to SD and watching the rendered result on TV then you will have interlaced issues with your fonts that are difficult to deal with. If you mean downrez to go from 1080 to 720, there are other issues. Not as many, but there are still issues. If you're going even to other sizes there are still issues.
Let me detail just one issue. The font example you provided has serifs and varying line widths. In the top line the words "don't get destroyed" for example show me a bunch of problems when downsizing. Say the narrowest part at the top of the "o" in "don't" was 2 pixels high and you size your 1920 X 1080 comp down to 720 X 480 (NTSC) the narrow part of the top of the "0" is going to be less than 1 pixel (oops, there's nothing less than 1 pixel) high so it's going to go funky on you. It will also flicker on TV because the line will be 1 pixel wide and 1 pixel wide horizontal lines will always flicker on an ntsc display because of interlacing.
Throw in compression artifacts, motion artifacts, and noise that is introduced just by the huge contrast difference between your white type and the black background and you're got all kinds of other problems with the design.
TransCoding is best handled through the Adobe Media Encoder or other 3rd party encoders because there are more options that you can get with the Output Module in AE, but even the best endoding in the world, to the best codec in the world won't fix design problems that break the rules. I don't know any way to make the small type at the top of and bottom of your example look as good on a SD device.
A little better description of exactly what you want to do will help.
