TiVo output to DVI?

I'm curious, but not curious enough to fry my NVIDIA GeoForce 8800 GT without asking. If I hooked up a TiVo HD with a DVI to HDMI adapter, would I be able to view the output on my 30" ACD? Just wondering.

No. Mac Graphics boards are for video output only, not input, so you can't use them to get video into the computer, and the Apple 30" display is not compatible with any HD video formats if you try a connection that bypasses the computer.

  • No Output from DVI..Any ideas?

A week ago I received all my parts for my new build. DKA 790 GX, AMD Phenom II X4 940 BE, 500GB Seagate Barracuda SATA, 8GB Corsair XMS 1066 DDRII, VisionTek PCIe Radeon HD3450 512MB, NZXT Guardian 921 Case, Xion Simple Power 630W PSU. I got all set up to put it together and the PSU was DOA. I waited a week for the RMA process and finally got it all together yesterday. I loaded optimized Bios settings and then turned up the memory to 1066 F10 and saved.
Now is where the fun begins.....
I Plugged my DVI cable from my ViewSonic LCD into the DVI output on the PCIe Card and loaded Vista Ultimate 64. After install windows loaded and I installed the MSI Driver disk for Vista. I rebooted the machine and I suddenly had no DVI signal as windows loaded. I spent 2 hours talking to MSI tech support trying to resolve this. I did everything including run the board outside the case on a non conductive mat. Meanwhile back at the ranch the tech support guy kept having to call me back after talking to his boss after everything we did that would not work. Finally, I decided to try a VGA cable connection to my LCD...voila..I suddenly have an analog picture. Next I reinstall the board and the video card. I go into Bios and sure enough now I have the option in Bios for onboard video whereas before it was not there. So, I enter windows and load the driver for the video card and enable Hybrid Crossfire. This is where I am at. I have an analog only picture. I can't swap to a DVI connection on either the embedded video or the video card or I have a black screen. I can hear windows load but I have a black screen.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I am at a loss. Oh..by the way, The tech support guy told me his boss said to try a new monitor. This is a brand new monitor and it works perfectly find with a DVI connection to my other computers. I asked to speak with his boss to cut out the middle man and he hung up on me and never called me back.

The tech support guy was probably right about a problem with the monitor.  I had the same issue with my Acer monitor a couple of times.  The fix with mine was simple.  Log into Vista in VGA mode, unplug the VGA cable at the monitor, not at the back of the computer, and plug in the DVI cable.  Your monitor should then recognize it's receiving a DVI signal.  Once the monitor's firmware saw the signal, I had no more problems.  Hope the fix for you is as simple.  I know it's frustrating as when I had the same problem, I swapped out three different video cards and played with several different drivers before I found the solution.

  • 2012 MBA won't output to DVI TV

I have a 2012 MBA that I'm trying to connect to an old LCD TV via a mini display port to HDMI cable that's then attached to an HDMI to DVI adaptor. The TV cannot find a signal from the MBA and doesn't appear in the MBA's display preferences. The odd thing is that the exact same set-up works perfectly with a 2010 MBA and the 2012 MBA connects to a newer HDMI TV without a problem.
    Any thoughts?

    Hello SamUsiskin
Check out the article below to start troubleshooting the issue. Start with a reset to PRAM and SMC as well as starting up in Safe Mode to see if that resolves the issue.

  • DVI out port output @ 1920x1080?

I have a 15" macbook pro (2nd gen i believe, it has the full aluminum casing and touchpad supports gestures). I was wondering if the DVI Out supports up to 1920x1080 resolution (without any scaling, ect.)? I was looking to buy a 1920x1080 native LCD monitor and want to make sure the output can handle that.
    Thanks!

My old MBP 17" from 2006 output via DVI to 1920x1200 - specifically a DELL 2408WFP - without incident or difficulty. Looks beautiful too. Much less eyestrain when using at a desk.

A DVI to VGA adapter provides a conversion from DVI to VGA.
A DVI to DVI adapter, what is that? If the input is DVI and the output is DVI, what is the need for an adapter?
Tell us what you are trying to accomplish.

  • DVI to VGA to Insignia TV problem

I am trying to connect it to my Insignia TV with VGA, the MBP's video output is DVI. I have an adapter connecting the DVI port to the VGA cable that is connected to the TV. They are both fully tightend but  nothing is showing up on the TV.
             WHY!?!?!?!?!?!

Many possible reasons and not enough information to choose among them.
Some possible reasons and things to check, working back from the TV:
The TV might not be set to "watch" the VGA input port. Did you verify that it is?
The VGA port on the TV might be defective or damaged. Have you used it before?
The VGA port on the TV might not be sending the proper identifying information to the MBP. How old is the TV?
The VGA cable might be defective or damaged. Have you used it before? Have you tried another?
The DVI-VGA adapter might be defective or damaged. Have you used it before? Have you tried another?
The DVI output port on the MBP might be defective or damaged. Have you used it before?
Does the MBP notice that there is a second screen connected? Check to see if there is an "Arrangement" tab in the "Displays" panel of System Preferences?
Depending on what you mean by "nothing is showing," the MBP might not be set to send anything to the screen. Are you getting static, a black screen, the Mavericks wallpaper?

  • Mini DisplayPort to DVI to VGA doesn't work (why?!)

I purchased a Mini DisplayPort to DVI adaptor from eBay. It works just fine when connected to a DVI cable to a monitor, but there's no signal when I put a DVI to VGA adapter in-between to connect it to a VGA only display. I was hoping to use a single Mini DisplayPort cable to handle both DVI and VGA connections - am I missing something here?
Here's an image of the connection path: http://img690.imageshack.us/img690/313/photors.jpg
    Thanks

Someone on Twitter mentioned the Mini DisplayPort to DVI output is DVI-D only, which means the VGA adapter wouldn't receive an analogue signal to convert to VGA.
Exactly correct. When you plug a DVI adaptor into mDP the port only sends out the digital signal. Likewise, when you plug a VGA adaptor into mDP the port sends only the analog signal. So using two adaptors in tandem is not possible. You need a separate adaptor for DVI and for VGA, unfortunately.

  • VGA / DVI issue (Ultrabase?)

Until today I had a laptop and desktop connected top an Avocent SwitchViewDV1 (KWM) Monitor is a Samsung Syncmaster 226cw connected to switch box via DVI and from switchbox outputs by DVI cable to lap top & desktop.
Today received a new X200 ... it has no DVI socket (only 15 pin D type)I thought initially problem solved by adding a DV-I female to 15 pin male gender changer ... although this all physically fits ... nothing displayed on monitor.
2 questions ... is there an alternative 'adapter' or are DVI to VGA cables available ?
Second question ... and probably more important, does the Ultrabase support DVI monitor connection ... if so I might as well wait a couple of days for Ultrabase to arrive.

    Osprey, welcome to the forum,
wait for the Ultrabase and order yourself a Display Port to DVI Cable.
    Hope this helps

  • ADC to DVI adapter how ???

I have PowerMac Pro with Intel chips and ATI Radeon X1900 video graphics card and Apple Cinema Display but dont know how to connected them, Do you know how to convert the Apple ADC display output to DVI inexpensively? I see Apple wants $150 for theirs. Are there other vendors of this conversion? Where is a good place to buy it? I want to use an ADC display on my ATI Radeon X1900 XT it's a DVI video card output, please help
    THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

Apple stopped making and selling this adapter last year. They were $99 from Apple, but now they are trading on the secondary market at inflated prices. I don't believe anyone makes an alternative. Dr. Bott used to make the DVIator, but I don't know if that's available anymore, either.

  • VGA/DVI cable - wanting to use two monitors.

I got a VGA/DVI cable to connect the VGA port on my LCD TV to the DVI port on my desktop computer. I'm trying to use 2 monitors on my computer which has both a VGA and DVI port. My regular monitor was already on, and the computer detected the TV as a monitor but the TV wouldn't detect a signal. I had the TV on the VGA/PC setting. The cable was a return item so it might be defective. I was wondering if there's anything else I could try to get it to work?

My computer's DVI port doesn't allow for the contacts above and below the flat blade like the DVI-I and DVI-A connectors in the picture. The cable that I got does have those contacts.
Ooooooh.  So your computer may be one of the rare animals that doesn't have a DVI-I output, only DVI-D.
Since your TV has HDMI inputs, this is the way to go.  Get a DVI-to-HDMI cable.  It will provide higher quality than VGA and is USUALLY easier to use, I've never had video timing/resolution support issues with HDMI.  (However, every computer I own has an Nvidia graphics card - the story may be different for ATI or Intel graphics!)

  • 24" LED Display from DP/HDMI/DVI

I have a 24" LED Display and I'm looking to use it with a homebrew PC. The video card I'd like to buy has output in DVI, HDMI and regular DisplayPort (but not Mini DisplayPort).
I would think that going between regular DP and mini DP would be easy, but I haven't been able to find adapters that go from male DP to female mini-DP. Am I going to need to buy a video card that specifically outputs in mini-DP?
    Thanks

  • I tried to connect via to dvi to hdmi and it did not wrk

if I have vga and dvi on my monitor but only vga on my computer does this mean I dont have compatable computer to run hdmi for my display?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi lastace,
If your vga port is blue, that means it's a D-Sub connection.
With D-Sub, you can purchase a connector that can convert D-Sub output to DVI but unfortunately, not HDMI.
So in your case, you can connect your monitor via D-Sub (VGA) or DVI but not HDMI unless you have a HDMI port on your
laptop. Sorry I couldn't give you good news.
    Hope this helps!

  • DVI and HDMI

    Hi..
I bought a new 24" 1080p HD LCD Monitor which has both DVI and HDMI inputs.. but my VGA Card is NX7600GS-T2D256EH which has 2 DVI out puts... Do I need to buy a VGA card with HDMI output to get 1080p HD resoulution or can I get 1080p output using DVI?
    Thx

    kamalmawa,
Yes, 2048x1536 and 2560x1600 are both greater then 1920×1080.
But then again, I never studied new math, so I could be wrong.
    Richard
some guy told me that I must have HDMI for 1080p and he also told me about 1080p and 1080i which really made me confused...
I found an article about DVI simply explained in here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVI
But I wanted to confirm with you guys as you guys more experienced in this kind of things..
Thx again for the reply Richard..

  • Can a dvi-d monitor be used with a C5U89AT

I have an existing Compaq Elite 8300 that currently is utilizing a HP2509m monitor. I want to use dual monitors and would like to use a C5U89AT dual port USB Graphics adapter and add a second HP2509m monitor. The spec sheet says the C5U89AT supports DVI-I and display port. The HP2509m provides DVI-D and VGA connections. Not sure if a DVI-D monitor would work or not. HP has available a display port to DVI-D adapter but not sure if this would be needed or work with the Graphics Adapter?

Yes, this adapter will supply a DVI-D signal on its DVI-I output. DVI-I supports both analog (VGA) and digital (HDMI and DVI) signals.

  • Is it possible to output 1080 to a 50" LG Plasma from a PowerMac G4 MDD?

    PowerMac G4 MDD Dual 1Ghz

    OSX 10.2.8

I work in a video department and recently got new Mac Pros leaving us with some spare G4's. We're looking into having one of the G4s replace the old iMac in the studio and connect it to the 50" LG Plasma to display HD Graphics/Video. Currently we have an older iMac connected to it through a scan converter displaying at it's highest resolution which is low, so the image isnt good on the plasma.
I've looked into 2 cards for the G4, the ATI Radeon 9600 Pro and 9800 Pro, so that I could then output from DVI to HDMI. They both support 1920x1080 (9600 @ 150hz and the 9800 @ 120hz for analog monitors).
Does the analog refresh rate differ from a plasma refresh rate? The LG accepts 1920x1080 60hz at RGB/HDMI-PC, 1920x1080 75hz RGB-PC, and 1920x1080 24-60hz HDMI-DTV.
    Any Ideas? Thanks
