TLF in Flash CS4 showing ??? with Arabic fonts

I got TLF to function on my work computer (XP-32) with no trouble.
However, at home (XP-64), when I type in the TLF box in CS4, I only get ????? showing. If I copy and paste Arabic from Notepad into the text box, the arabic text shows up with no problem. I've tried using Adobe Arabic, Transparent Arabic, and Standard Arabic font with the same results.
I don't know if this has anything to do with it but when I first installed the TLF component, it set it up in my Flash CS3 extension manager. After deleting it from there, I installed it again to the CS4 extension manager.
Has anyone else had this situation? I can't figure out why my work computer and home computer are behaving differently.
Thanks for any help.

Hi azeem
I have been learning how to deal with arabic fonts now in flash10 and from what i have read up so far adobe has stopped updating the TLF component and it is been said it will only reappear with flash11 again. So if there is a bug with 64 bit os , then it is stuck like that for now. Another point to mention while using the forums and from personal testing is that the adobe arabic font will not handle diacritics correctly. You should try use Arial version 4 (the arial that ships with vista , the arial that shipped with xp is also faulty).

  • HELP ME!! - Flash CS4 Closes with Many Fonts

    Hi Guys ...
    I just got an error:
This is the configuration of my PC:
    Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 - 2.33Ghz - 2.00GB RAM - 80GB HD [/ B]
When I got the standard windows fonts installed on my PC,
Flash CS4 works normal ... but when I install my 4000 fonts (i like
fonts), and must use them, my flash failed and closes!
In Flash CS3, with the same number of fonts this error does
not occur, someone can help me with this?

doesn't matter. run a check for corrupted fonts.
there may be other reasons cs4 crashes, but a corrupted font
is the most common. it also crashes when a large fla's are loaded,
but that would seem less likely with 4000 fonts.
you could rollback your fonts to the minimum and then add 1/4
of them at a time and retest cs4. see if you can narrow down the
    font(s) causing the problem.

Problem with Arabic font: In certain contexts, when writing Arabic with vowel signs (fatha, damma, kasra, sukun) a sequence of sukun + fatha/damma etc. would reverse automatically. Is this a known bug?
    Example: عَيْنٌ
    would automatically convert to عَيُنْ
Funnily, it doesn't seem to happen here, but it does when entering text in a web interface (using Firefox, font Bayan) and when using Text Edit.
Seems to be a problem of a specific font, as e.g. Arial MS Unicode works fine. Any hints?
    Thank you!

You can't do Arabic on MS Word for Mac.  This app has never supported RTL scripts, so you need to use something else.  Mellel is best, but Pages 5, TextEdit, Nisus Writer, Open/LibreOffice should work OK.
You switch between languages by using the "flag" menu at the top right of the screen or by using the keyboard shortcuts apple/command plus space.  Go to system prefs/keyboard/shortcuts to make sure that is activated.
To see which key does what, you use Keyboard  Viewer.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH13746
You place vowels on letters by typing the key for the vowel after the key for the letter.  The vowels are on the option/alt keys, option/alt + a gives you َ

  • PDFs with Arabic fonts

I got problems with PDFs with Arabic fonts?
    Is it  a frequent??

What specific problems are you having? In the general case, we know that Hebrew, Arabic, and other non-Latin fonts do properly display with the Adobe Reader assuming of course that the fonts are properly embedded in the PDF files.

  • MS Office Mac wreaks havoc with arabic fonts on OSX

i always have this problem when installing the dreaded MS Office for Mac on any OSX system and that is that Arabic fonts that work fine start going haywire because MS Office Mac installs some funky corrupt fonts.
Does anyone know how to go back to the original pre-office installed fonts that came with OSX snow leopard? im guessing i have to use the install discs or something.
i've tried to selectively figure out what Office has installed and remove them and its a pain.
on a related note, will Office do fine if I dont allow it to install its own fonts on my system?

    tom -
i am not sure of the specifics but here's some info from a poster on a board:
"2) There is an entirely separate issue about viewing Arabic in Safari. Installing MS Office for Mac also installs Office fonts on your Mac. Two of those fonts (specifically Arial and Times New Roman) will corrupt Safari's ability to display Arabic properly and you will wind up with disjointed Arabic text like ? ? ? instead of ???
To fix this all you need to do is delete the offending fonts from your Mac (go to Library>Preferences>Fonts and simply trash Arial and Times New Roman. Your mac will then revert to using the original versions of those fonts that came with your system -- in other words, you'll still have access to the Arial font in Microsoft Word and other Office apps, but Safari will display Arabic correctly."
    http://www.emiratesmac.com/forums/arabic/604-writing-displaying-arabic-my-mac-3. html
and there's some useful information here as well http://www.smi.uib.no/ksv/ArabicMac.html .
are there any other font folders that i should time-machine restore besides the two aptly named ones i mentioned in /Library and /user/Library ?
and on a related note, there was an option in the custom settings of the MS Mac Office installation to install 'fonts' (or was it 'additional fonts' ?) that, in hindsight, maybe i should have unchecked. if i ever have to reinstall office one day i will pay more attention to this as well as have my fonts backed up for sure.

  • Flash CS4 crashing with Snow Leopard - help!!

I just installed Snow Leopard and now my Flash CS4 will not stay open. It crashes. All software updates are up to date. Any suggestions. please help. I have Flash work to do

    I found the fix.
It's a pain. It's a font thing issue. Move all your fonts to your desktop or some external drive. Launch Flash and it should work. Now, if you want your fonts put them back but do only a little at a time, quiting and relaunching Flash every time you put fonts back to find the font that's causing the problem.
When you find the font that causes the issue, trash it.

  • Problem with arabic fonts

hi , i just downloaded photoshop and i made it middle east for the arabic & i installed a library of arabic fonts , the problem is ps writting any arabic  text with those fonts wrong  and it`s very heavy while writing  but he is writing normal the arabic text with mac fonts , can this issue fixed or can i rest my fonts ?
hint --> as i`m new in mac i put the arabic fonts in many folders :
    (library -- fonts)
    (fontbook -- all fonts)
    (fontbook --- user)

You normally have to use Mac fonts when writing Arabic.

  • Flash CS4 - lost characters during font embedding

Does anybody know how to force Flash to embed all needed
    characters when
creating font symbol? When embedded font is used in text
    fields instead of
device fonts a lot of characters stop to be accessible. Is
    Flash limited to
use only with a couple of languages? What about rest of them?
    Regards,
    Marek

    Hi Sean,
    > Are you embedding the font in Flash or in AS3?
Physically in Flash but in order to see the effect of using
    it is necessary
to turn on embedFonts=true in TextField.
    > In Flash you should be able to
    > click on the "Character Embedding..." button on the
    properties panel when
    > the
    > TextField is selected. Note that the TextField has to be
    dynamic. The
    > character
    > embedding dialog has several options for what to embed,
    all, upper/lower
    > case,
    > punctuations and the include characters field which
    allows you to specify
    > specific characters for embedding.
If you turn on size reporting you will be able to see what
    exactly fonts are
embeded. I recommend you to enter some characters in
    "Character Embedding"
and export SWF. You will see all of those characters. Now add
    font symbol to
the library using the same font. You will see in the report
    that Flash will
ignore everything what you previously have entered. All
    embedded characters
this is always the same character set. There are no a lot of
    characters used
    in European languages.

  • Need Help with Arabic Font from Microsoft word to Adobe Illustrator

hello after i spoke with a adobe professional at the mac store, I was told that in my Mac computer in systems preferences, click on international and then click tab on Input Menu and select the arabic input source. Once I did that i thought it would work but then realize i saw another issue.
It look totally different. Please any suggestions?
    thanks

Without a different version of AI (AIME from Winsoft) your are not going to be able to handle a Right to Left language such as Arabic in regular AI. Your best bet is to make a PDF from Word and place it as an image in AI.

  • How do I add flash cs4 game with AS3 to flash cs4 website??

I have created a game in flash with ActionScript 3 and now want to add it to a website I have created with pages seperated into keyframes. Ideally, I am trying to have the game start when a link on the home page is selected. I would also like the users to be able to download the game themselves??? Any ideas for a flash novice??

Thank you so much!!! I just added it with a UI Loader Component! Worked really well... although it looks like doing that picked up an issue with some of my code? It's now looping over and over again and the counter within my game (for giving players their score - highlighted in red), is not working? If you are a AS3 guru any help would be greatly appreciated, otherwise thank you so much for your earlier tips

  • Flash slide show with moving

    Dear all,
Please help me, i have a one web link have a flash display, below the flash display some scrolling picture, when we click the image that image goes up, as well as left and right have forward & backward button, how can i do this type of flash file, please helpme
    regards
    Manoj

To design something like what you linked, you will need to find some tutorials (possible a couple different types for all the features) or hire someone to do it for you.  If you want to try to find some tutorials, then you should search Google using terms like "Flash AS3 sliding menu gallery tutorial" or "AS3 image picker tutorial"

  • Flash keeps wanting to map fonts with "Font Mapping" dialog box

Every time I open a CS4 Flasf FLA file I am prompted with the Font Mapping dialog box.
Even though I select the substitute fonts, every time it asks for it -- even after SAVE ASing the file under another name.
How can I get Flash CS4 to remember the fonts I have substituted?
    Thanks,
    ...Rowby

I don't have CS4, but if it hasn't changed since CS3, if you read the warning that opens that font mapping you will probably see that it does not save the substituted fonts in the file.  To get the fonts truly substituted you need to find the intances that use the fonts (shown in parentheses when missing) and select the new font.

  • Working on Arabic font with English version

    Dear All,
We have been working in Illustrator CS4 International version. Recently we have received a artwork with Arabic font to work on. Client had given the reference file in jpg for verification and also have supplied arabic fonts. I am totally unware of this language. Unfortunately inspite of using the supplied font the text is changed and not getting as the supplied reference file. I think there should be arabic language pack to be installed (pls correct me if I m wrong). If so, pls advise me where can this be procured.

There is no Arab lanaguage version.http://www.adobe.com/products/illustrator/languages/
I would recommend that your client re-send the file in its native code (PSD or PDF) with layers included.

  • Arabic in Flash CS4

Ok - I'm running into the same barriers in Flash CS4 with not
being able to work with Arabic as I have in the past. I thought
this time there was going to be a solution? PLEASE let me know if
there is something that I need to do to get Flash to cooperate with
Arabic text. Having it appear backwards but then render correctly
in run time will not do. It reeks havoc when working with the
    layout.
    Please help. Thanks.

Thanks for the responses. Would someone please post to this
once they do release the new components, it would be much
appreciated. Unfortunately the text classes that are in there now
are pretty much worthless. Flash just doesn't know what to do with
the language, since its characters are written in cursive script,
yet broken within the words themselves. For instance, imagine MS
Word breaking your words in half at the end of a line with no
hyphen or word-wrap and then not really letting you correct it.
Even if Flash let you cut and paste correctly from something like
MS Word, that would be a big help.
