TM clock icon spinning for 3 hours...
My Time Machine clock icon in the task bar spinning for the last 3 hours. When I click on it I see it tries to stop the backup ("Stopping Backup..."). What process should I kill in order to restart the backup without reboot?
Thanks
you can kill backupd in activity monitor. make sure Activity monitor is set to show All Processes as this one belong to root.

everything went well until the final step "uploading files to server" -- it's been spinning for an hour, "status" still reads 0%, "pause task" and "cancel task" buttons are grayed out in Activity window. Any ideas?

I'm just trying to update from 3.5.8 to the latest version. Started on the website and it downloaded a desktop image only, no application. Then tried on Firefox to update under "Help". It's been spinning for an hour! Help. I just want the latest version
If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop
*Firefox 9.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
*Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
*Install the new version that you have downloaded
Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data if you uninstall and (re)install Firefox.

Nokia 920 reset "gears spinning" for 18+ hours
I went through the reset process in the menu on the phone.
The phone rebooted, and then showed an animation of gears spinning. I let this run...... for 12 hours..... and still spinning
I then looked into troubleshooting steps:
- I tried rebooting the phone by pressing the vol down / power button... it rebooted... then did the same thing, letting it run for 8 hours
- I tried rebooting and holding the volume down button..... let it run.... same result
- I tried draining the battery..... then plugging it in.. then both things above
- I tried a lot of reboot/button combinations that I had looked up elsewhere
- I then gave up.. and left it running.... it's been running for 18 hours now.. the same gear animation
What can I do to fix this? Prior to the reset, the phone worked just fine!If you're phone is still in warranty, the repair is free of charge. Contact Nokia Support for more information about your phone's warranty and how to get your device repaired.

I looked at some of the suggested fixes and did click on Extensions then back to Add-ons, but still won't load. I also un-clicked so that add-ons aren't automatically updated, but it still won't load.
First, if the active category on the left side of the Add-ons page is '''Get Add-ons''', click '''Extensions''' to bypass whatever is loading and go directly to the area likely to have the toolbar. (I think it's loading a page of popular add-ons, which isn't very relevant to what you want to do.) Does that work?
If that doesn't work, you could try disabling all add-ons first and see whether that makes a difference. You can do this using Firefox's Safe Mode dialog.
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [[Backing up your information]]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, restart Firefox in Firefox's Safe Mode ([[Safe Mode]]) using
Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
In the Safe Mode dialog, check just the box to "Disable all add-ons" then click Make Changes and Restart. Does this allow you to access the Add-ons page? -
I just purchases my macbook pro about two weeks ago. There is a spinning colored ball on the page where i put in my password to log in. It has been spinning for three hours. What am i suppose to do??
The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies. -
Have just installed Mavericks and restarted the MacBook Pro. That was 3 hours ago and after logging in, I got my wallpaper and dock, but none of my desktop icons, just the spinning coloured wheel. It's been like that for 2 hours. Is this normal? What should I do, please?
I tried holding the on/off switch down to make it shut down, but when I turned it back on again, the same thing happened and none of the keys etc makes any difference.
HELP!!!! Please. No, what you're experiencing is not normal.
Try booting whilst holding down the Shift key - this will allow you to boot into Safe Mode, disabling third-party kernel extensions, etc. Your Mac will be slow to boot and will operate sluggishly. That's normal. If you can get in using Safe Mode then you have some start-up item that doesn't play well with Mavericks.
Call back,

How do I put a "close file" icon in the toolbar? There's an "open file" icon by default, but I cannot -- in spite of searching for an hour--find a way to put a "close file" icon in there?
Toolbar where? What program? What system?

Can anyone help with this please? It has been bugging me for 24 hours, and I am going mad. I have clicked 'install' in iTunes, and the Lion icon just says 'waiting', but goes no further. I currently run Snow Leopard, so it should upgrade to Lion with no problems.
are you on the most up to date software 10.6.8? try checking through Software Update.
you can also sign out of itunes store/app store and the sign back in. I've read that this resets things where it prompts you to resume. you need to sign out of all computer and devices with the specific apple id acount you used to buy Lion for this to work. -
hi.have a g5 mac, dual core 2.3 unit.i bought it with no hard drive.have got hard drive, formatted for mac.i am trying to load osx.i get a grey screen with a small box in the centre with 2 character faces, and then grey apple with loading icon spinning.nothing is loading tho.

Clock icon disappeared on my dock for OSX - 10.9.4
my clock disappeared from my desktop and I am now late for morning coffee
There is no system installed clock icon in the dock (at the bottom of your desktop); if you've installed a third party app, go to your Applications folder and drag the app icon back into the dock.

Why does the Iphone4 freeze up after downloading the IOS7.6 patch showing an ITUNE icon? The phone will not change screens for 4 hours.
I Turn it off/on and nothing changes.Hello bigboza,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information, take a look at:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3281
If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on), reset your device.
If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:
If you are using an iPad, ensure that it's connected to the USB Power Adapter supplied with the device.
Let it charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged. Learn more about charging iPhone and iPod touch, or iPad.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more aboutrestoring iOS software.
Have a nice day,
