TM doesn't access all of the backups prior to re-install of OS

1. Various problems led me to get a new hard drive under warranty.
2. Prior to replacing drive, I made sure I had done a recent TM backup onto my external Firewire drive.
3. After reinstalling apps, updating OS, etc, I began to move data from TM to my laptop drive, but found that TM would only go back in time a week or so, even though I knew I had TM backups extending back two months.
4. These older backups were available to me by using the Finder and opening the external drive, but in TM's window they were greyed out as if there was no data there.

Why did you do it that way, instead of restoring your entire system (per #14 in the Frequently Asked Questions *User Tip,* also at the top of this forum). That would have restored everything to the exact condition it was in at the time of the backup you selected, in one operation.
Your best bet might be to start over with that procedure.

Have you done any backups since replacing the drive? If so, Time Machine knows it's a different drive (even if you gave it the same name), so you'll need the procedure in #E3 of the Time Machine - Troubleshooting *User Tip,* also at the top of this forum, to see the old ones.

Hi. The two user tips both describe a sequence of steps that should get your library from the point where it threatens to wipe data from your device to where it is syncing normally, while recovering as much information as possible. It may still be necessary to wipe and reload the device but this should only take place once all the data that can be recovered has been recovered.
Doing step 1 of 8 and then complaining things aren't the way you want them to be yet strikes me as premature...
Since you appear to have all your media content, and we are discussing an iPod classic, not an iOS device, the main worries are already taken care of. What's left is ratings, playcounts, playlist membership and checked status. Since your device holds only part of your library at best you could only recover the missing data for the content that is on the device using third party tools.
Recreating the previous checked/unchecked status of every track in your library from where you are now may not be that easy. Syncing with selected playlists has many advantages, one of which would have been that you would have a named playlist that could have been retrieved by 3rd party software if you had used this method.
You haven't explained what caused your problem in the first place, but if you have a Previous iTunes Libraries folder holding old copies of your iTunes database (generated with each iTunes update) then it would be possible to restore the most recent of these and then update the library with any changes in your media folder.
BTW Apple doesn't offer free support for this kind of issue with iTunes.

This may be related to a new feature embedded in iOS7 that shows all purchased music by default. Go to Settings > Music, then turn off Show All Music. See if the issue ceases once the feature has been disabled. This information is located on page 63 of the user guide below.

I updated via my iPhone 4s. The apps were on my iPhone 4s. That's all the information that I have. The update to ios7 seems to have gone smoothly - everything else is working, phone texting, email, internet, etc. But all of the apps I had installed over the past year are no longer showing up as shortcuts. No facebook, no twitter, no espn, etc. They are all still listed in my app store as purchased, but the shortcuts and my folders are gone. Thanks.

Aggregator suddenly doesn't play all of the projects after updates

I finished an aggregator project, checked it, etc. It was working fine. Then I downloaded some Adobe updates (Flash, Shockwave, Flash Player and Captivate 5), next thing I know, people are telling me that the project no longer works. I open it up, test it, and the files from the 3rd on won't start. They can be accessed from the Table of Contents, but they don't play. The playbar either doesn't move, or jumps back after a second. Nothing was changed in the files, I checked for pauses, Preferences options, nothing is set to pause/restrict playback. Also, the 3rd file's skin shows options that were unchecked. You can't move the playbar or skip ahead, but you can go back or forward to the other "frozen" files using the TOC.
Another wierd thing is that sometimes when I reopen the browser, it starts from the 1st frozen file and the TOC doesn't work at all. The swfs play fine when tested individually. I ended up having to make separate .exe files and linking them. Problem with this is that we need the htmls and when they are programed to open another project at the end, the original project doesn't close. Because of the nature of our work, we need one file to move on to the other without creating clutter of multiple browser windows open.
If anyone has encountered this, I would really appreciate some help. I have checked/changed internet settings, trusted site settings, system restored to before the updates, but nothing. I even had a co-worker republish the files from his non-updated computer and it still doesn't work.

You said you updated Flash player. What major and minor version number did you update to?
Were these projects originally created in Captivate 5 or an earlier version (e.g. Cp4)?
When the files don't play at all, what do you see? Is it a black screen?

Copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer or the backup of the old computer to the new computer. You do maintain a backup of your media and other important data, correct?

They are stored within the Library Package.
Since iPhoto 7 (iLife 08) the old iPhoto Library Folder is a Package File. This is simply a folder that looks like a file in the Finder. The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves.
So, accessing the files via the Finder is not supported. iPhoto replaces the Finder for anything you want to do with your images - and I do mean anything. It can all be don with with or via iPhoto. If you use it's the Go-To app for anything to do with you photos.
For instance: want to edit an image in Photoshop? You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
As to accessing your photos to upload/email/use in another app:
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps. If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later: You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File: a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected. 3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
Finally: If you want to inspect the Library package:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Standard Warning: Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things, deleting them or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.

How to get Premiere Pro to access all of the professional codecs?

Premiere Pro CC does not open projects that use any of the professional codecs, such as R3D or ProRes. It also has no presets available to create projects based on R3D, DSLR, etc. just presets for DV and a minimum number of older presets.
I have read that the problem could be due to an activation issue. Since the software was installed from a package created by CCP, there are no options to deactivate and then activate again.
I have two lab images. The first is just the Adobe video bundle. The second is the web/design bundle AND the video bundle. Premiere Pro is fine with the computers with just the video bundle. The one lab with both bundles is giving us the problem. I created the two installer packages based on the two serial numbers I have (one for each bundle).
I tried creating one installer for that lab using the serial number for the web/design bundle, but included all applications available to us. I uninstalled both bundles from a computer, restarted, ran the Adobe cleaner, and then installed all of the apps again. The Premiere Pro issue remains.
I assume the two bundles are still in conflict, but I don't know how to resolve it. OR, is there something else out there that can make Premiere use all of its codecs and settings?
All machines are running MacOS 10.8.4

I installed the design/web bundle on a computer where Premiere was working properly and after installing, Premiere continued to work properly. I am sure that is how I made the master for that lab (video bundle first > image for film program computers > add web/design for shared lab image), but it seems to work.
For now I will make a new master and re-image the lab, which sucks because we are in our third week of classes, but our film students can't do their work in our best lab with Premiere broken.

I purchased a whole cd in itunes but it doesn't play all of the song.

It will play like 30sec-1min of it then skip to the next one. It does this on about 4-5 of the songs on the cd. I didn't realize it did this until after i bought them and then burned them onto a cd and was listening to it in the car and it started not playing all of the songs. I got back on itunes on my pc to check and see what was going on and it's doing it to the songs on there as well so it wasn't something that happened while they were being burned onto the cd. I'm new to itunes so i'm not sure if there's something i've not done. Any ideas?

Assuming you are in a region where you are allowed to redownload your past music purchases, delete the corrupt tracks from your iTunes library, close and then reopen iTunes, go to the iTunes Store home page, click the Purchased link from the Quick Links section in the right-hand column, then select Music and Not on this computer. You should find download links for your tracks there.
While downloading select Downloads in the left-hand column and make sure Allow Simultaneous Downloads is unticked.
If the problem persists, or that facility is not yet available in your region, contact the iTunes Store support staff through the "Report a problem" links in your account history, or via Contact Support.
