TM fails due to problem with Back Up directory

I have a story similar to several I have seen here. I have been using TM without difficulty for months. My external TM drive is a LaCie 1Tb drive. Recently, I started getting the error saying TM was "unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup directory.'
Going into the log, the full error is as follows:
Starting standard backup
Backing up to: /Volumes/LaCie 1 TB/Backups.backupdb
Error: (-50) Creating directory 2009-04-26-184805.inProgress
Failed to make snapshot container.
Backup failed with error: 2
I tried to run Disk Utility to check the drive, but as others have posted, I could not "unmount" the drive even after turning TM off. So I finally just turned it off and restarted it, which allowed DU to do its thing. It repaired a few items. I re-ran DU, and the disk was verified. However, attempting to run TM was met with the same errors.
Any ideas? The drive is otherwise acting normally. I have a few files backed up separately on the drive (eg, not by TM), and those applications can be opened/run fine. The drive isn't making any funny sounds or anything suggesting a bad power supply.

Sorry to say this, but if TM can't put a folder on the drive, it usually indicates a failing disk drive.

Obviously this doesn't necessarily mean the disk is ok. +Repair Disk+ repairs the +file system+ on the disk: it doesn't check parts of the disk where there is no data.

Are they in the same partition? If so, that's not a good idea. TM works best with it's own, exclusive partition. If you're getting a new disk, partition it first. Instructions are in item 5 of the +Frequently Asked Questions+ post at the top of this forum.
You might try using Disk Utility to +Erase Free Space+ on the drive. If it fails, you have a new paperweight. If it succeeds, it doesn't necessarily mean it's ok, though.

One of my user is facing issue in creating new time sheet,
"The time sheet creation failed, because of problems with the project server or with data validations".
This issue is coming to only few members out of 10000 members.
Note: For the same user, can able to do in other machines. only the problem in his machine. Have ran the office diagnostics, but still the problem persists.
Is any add-on's/any settings need to update in IE. Could any one please help me on how to fix this issue?

Can't back-up new iMac with fusion HD. The back-up proceeds to within 10% of the total storage needed and then the "of" number increases. I suspect there is a problem with backing up the fusion drive. We have a new 3 TB time Capsule. Any ideas?

When you setup the wireless and ethernet in the computer.. ipv6 will be on automatic.. this is wrong for the latest TC firmware and airport utility. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4597
Go to the wireless and ethernet setup in preferences and change ipv6 to link local.
Once you do the big backup by ethernet the wireless will function fine for incremental.. it is obviously not estimating the size correctly..
A full back-up on the iMac would be about 650 GB. The partial updates that I have been trying start out at 115MB and keep growing indefinitely. The original back-up never finished nor have any of the follow-up attempts.
The first estimate should be the full backup but it will keep growing as the backup advances.. I would also delete any inprogress files to make sure it is not messing up .. delete even a sparsebundle if there is one for the imac on the TC and start afresh once you have ethernet connection.

Pondini may have some other clues there to give you an idea of why the backup is slow or not finishing.. there is a lot of issues with TM when it decides not to work.

I have this Windows 2008 R2 on which I installed remoteapp some years ago.
Now the certificate expired and I get the message

How should I renew the certificate? I already went to certification store and tried to renew certificate with same key but then it says "the request contains nor certificate template information".

Does the computer account have Enroll permission to the certificate template?
From the Server running your CA, run mmc, click File then Add/Remove Snap-in...
Add Certificate Templates and click OK.
Find the certificate template, then right click and select properties. On my CA its call ed RemoteDesktopComputers but might be called something different depending on what what template your certificate is based on.
On the security tab, click Oblect types, check Computers then OK. Enter the Computername and click OK. Then give your computer account Enroll permisssion.

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

When i acceped start button to backup partition system i get an alert "space not enough"
I had linux before and i whant change it to windows back. i deleted all ext partitions. I have all unlocated space.I shouldnt have problems.

I would use something like Partition Magic or Acronis Disk Director to first create a FAT32 partion for your C: Drive where your OS will go and be sure to leave 10GB or so unallocated for the secondary FAT32 Partition where your "factory image" will go.
You then create a Logical Drive with the unallocated space and make it hidden (PM or ADD will do this). Install your OS (preferably Windows XP if you want less problems) and then after you have setup everything the way you want (drivers, applications, etc), then use Acronis True Image to create your "factory restore" image on the hidden partition and activate the Startup Recovery Manager.
This is the way I do it and it works like a charm!

I'm trying to open a file with Word from my java aplication, and I have a problem with some file/directory names.
I have this

Here is what happens:
if path is something like this: "c:\people\info.doc" , there's no problem, Word opens the document, but if path contains blank spaces somewhere, it doesn't work. For example:
path = "c:\Documents and Settings\info.doc"
path = "c:\Hi everybody\info.doc"
path = "c:\tests\test results.doc"
with the above examples it doesn't work :( Word tries to open "c:\Documents", "c:\Hi" or "c:\tests\test".

No, the exec method runs the Word.weird, it shouldn't, and it wouldn't on my system going by the test I just made, but I'm running linux & not windows, maybe the command line parsing is different for some reason.
The problem is that
Word starts and then Word says that it can't open the
file because the name or the path to the file is not
valid.You still should use the overload that takes a String array.

Hard drive died - multiple problems with backed up home folder

My friend called me when she started having some problems with her home iMac. After we did went through a myriad of troubleshooting items, I determined that her hard drive was failing and suggested she backup her home folder immediately to another drive. She copied her home folder over to her old Mac and took the iMac into the Apple Store for further diagnostics. Sure enough, her hard drive had failed and they replaced it for her.
She reinstalled Leopard and set it up with a new account. We tried using the Migration Assistant to copy her old home folder back over but because she copied it rather than using Time Machine, Migration Assistant doesn't see it as a viable home folder. I'm very comfortable using the Terminal since I support both Macs and Linux in my department so I logged in as root and copied over her folders to the new account. That generally worked but we now have a ton of permissions problems of which Disk Utility doesn't fix. I'd like to start fresh again from her backed up home folder. So my question is if I can't use Migration Assistant to move over her old home folder, how do you make OS X see her old home folder as a viable account? (I hope this makes sense.)

I would suggest the following.
make a new temp admin account and get rid of the new account she made already. log in as the temp user and copy the old home folder from the external to /Users. then go to system preferences->accounts and make a new account with the same short user name as the name of her old home folder. It will say that a home directory by that name already exists and ask if you want to use it. say "yes". this should recreate that user and take care of all permissions issues.

Won't backup due to problem with username or password.

When my machine sits idle, frequently I will get a message that the time capsule didn't backup due to a problem with user name or passwork. When I am using the computer it backs up fine.

That one is most commonly caused by a problem with your QuickTime. (iTunes uses QuickTime for audio and video playback.)

Itunes wont update to 10.5 due to problem with windows installer package, any help?

Problem with Back button in Top Level Navigation

Hi all,
We are facing a minor problem with the Back button in the Top Level Navigation in Portal. This button is present under the Roles and Worksets menu along with the History, Forward, and Add to Portal Favorites links.
The problem is faced when we have some worksets under a single role. While browsing accross these worksets by randomly clicking on them, we wish to use the Back button as well to go back to the previous workset. But when we use the Back button, the Detailed Navigation panel in the last workset is not retrieved.
I will explain with the System Administration Role. I open the worksets under this role in the following manner:
First I open Transport;
Next I open Portal Display;
Next I open System Configuration;
Now I wish to go back to Portal Display workset by clicking on the Back button. But when I do this, although the Portal Display workset opens up, but I cannot see the Detailed Navigation Panel. See the screenshot below:
