TM filled my TC in 12 days!

Hi, I'm having problems with my Time Capsule and Time Machine backups. Backups ran fine for about 9 months then I started having problems. After finding that the backups were failing for no reason obvious to me, I wiped the time capsule and started again on 9th April. Today I'm getting messages that the capsule is almost full, and my hourly backup is something in the region of 32.2Gb.
At first I thought the problem may be that for iphoto I use a disk image (in order to share the library with write access between my account and my wife's), but I've excluded that from the TM backups and it made no difference to the backup size. I've also excluded the applications folder. Please could somebody give me some pointers as to how to start resolving this issue? I don't know whether it started when I upgraded to 10.5.6 or whether the problem preceded that.
Also - is there a way of sorting the contents of the file system by size?

Thanks for the quick response. Time tracker spotted it straight away. I'd excluded the 'PhotoLib' disk image, but I needed to exclude the sparseimage file. I'm not sure why it thinks it's changed every time it does a backup (I don't add photos that often), but that seems to have cleared things up. I will back that disk image up elsewhere to my unix server instead. One point I'd add is (and this may be obvious...) I needed to close Time Tracker for the backup to work.
Total backup is now 2.2mb (this time around) and took only a few seconds.

Boot Hard Drive fills up in a few days - can't find any data

This is weird. OS X server 10.4.11 on a G5 Mac has been running fine as a file server for ages.
It has 3 drives. The boot disk is 120Gb.
The other 2 are 250Gb each.
The boot disk as nothing on it and is not shared but it was completely full. I couldn't find any large files on it or anything that would be filling it up. The sum of the folder sizes add up to less than 20Gb.
So I formatted completely and reinstalled everything. Within a week it was full again.
It seams to be filling up with hidden files.
What is going on ?

OK, when I show hidden files. I have found that the following files are growing right before my eyes...
System.log
mail.log
asl.log
log.smbd
Can I turn off logging. Any ideas ?

Trash can disappeared and CAN'T EMPTY TRASH filled up 80 gigs in 3 days

I'm running Express version of Solaris on X86 machine. Yesterday the trash icon disappeared. Today I put it back in the panel but it still won't throw out the trash. What is the path to the trash folder?
80 gigs filled up in only 3 days !

That is when I logon as "root" . When I log on as another user trashcan appears and Documents shows over 60 gigs free.

Automatic filling OLAP Cache

i am using bw 3.5....
I`ve a question as to OLAP Cache. Is there any possibility/method to fill the Cache automatically every day?
Id like to use the performance enhancement of caching queries....but i would like to avoid it that the first user who execute a query have a long waiting time....
Exists there any options to handle this?

Run report with prev day automatically

I have a report with passed parameters. actually i only need this reprt to run daily at 4am (we have the scheduler) but process the previous day.
I dont need a from to really, just the one day. how do i prefill this in a param for date which is a number field here.

The only way you can pre-fill the prompt with 'previous day' is by writing a SQL query (that returns the last day) and adding to the report using the Add Command option and creating dynamic prompt that points to the field in this command object.
Make sure you don't join this command object with the existing tables/queries in the report.

Inbox filling up with the same emails

My Inbox fills up many times a day with the same emails that It's already imported. I've trashed these new imports but it doesn't matter. Should I trash the plist? But will that lose my saved mail? The only thing that stops this temporarily is if I go to the server and trash the emails there. But then as I get new emails it starts doing the multiple imports again.

Sorry I don't have much to offer in the line of troubleshooting your problem but wanted to let you know that the gold coloring of the email subject lines just indicates that is being marked as "junk" mail.
It might help those helping you to post a screen shot or two of your Preferences Settings for Junk Mail tab for Mail.app including your advanced settings for the Junk Mail tab. If not if you could let those of us helping to know exactly what you have ticked etc. under those settings. Be careful not to include personal info in the shots or posting of settings.
Also, do you have many GB's of emails stored in your mailboxes? Overstuffed mailboxes can cause many problems with mail but I have never heard of it affecting multiple copies of emails being downloaded to your account. I might also suspect that fact that you have 16 different accounts setup might be the cause of some corruption somewhere causing this anomaly with your mail downloading in that fashion.

Group Policy for Outlook Option: "Mark Messages as expired after this many days"

In Outlook, there is a option where you can have Outlook "Mark Messages as expired after this many days". If you enable this option, you fill in a number of days when Outlook will mark the message as expired. The default is 180 days.
The option is located under FILE -> Options -> Mail -> Send Messages.
Does anyone know how to enable this setting via Group Policy? I can't find it.

Office 2010 Administrative Templates loaded? If so, we can find the GPO setting under:
Administrative Templates > Microsoft Outlook 2010 > Outlook Options > Preferences > E-mail Options > Advanced E-mail Options
Double click "When sending a message" setting, select Enable bullet. Now, you can specify the "Messages expire after (days):" option.

Time machine backup on network drive

i have a netgear router with readyshare usb network drive i have a 2TB external hdd that i use for a central location to view files for both my imac 10.7.5 and multiple pc's windows 7 i currently have a external hdd connected to my imac just for time machine however this is only 320gb not large enough. was wondering if i could somehow make an alias of my current time machine bacup and place it in my network drive so that my backup would use this space too or maybe even make this time machine drive larger? or if i delete the connected time machine drive will the alias still be as is? i understand that i can just create a partition however if i understand the process correctly this would erase my files and the only option would be ExFat format from imac for windows then i would make and extended journal for use with time machine. i am not sure i want to do this because i dont know if i could reformat the disk with the default software still on thie 2TB drive. also i dont know if i could use it with all my pc's and imac. currently i can transfer files to either computer.

I have the exact same problem, but I am not using TM over a network... Only my local Mac Pro w/ a 600gb external drive. I recall back when I first got Leopard that time machine did in fact ask me if I wanted it to delete old backups after the drive filled up. Then one day it randomly decided to not delete old backups anymore... Instead displaying the same error message you get.
Can anyone help? (Besides telling me not to back up certain files, and to do it less often. Those are BS solutions! I want my entire HD backed up every time automatically erasing old backups when necessary. Is that too much to ask for?)

Possible Bug in iOS 8 via Streaming iTunes Video results in lost storage space?

Hi looking for suggestions or help on this issue if you can.
I'm not sure if the issue is my attempting to stream a movie from iTunes under iOS 8 or if it is a result of the iOS 8 update (size) itself or some type of memory leak or inability of memory to be released back to the OS.
This AM I had ~4.8GB of free space on my 16GB iPhone 5C; running under iOS 7. I then updated to iOS 8 by connecting the phone to my iMac and doing the install through iTunes under a USB wired connection. I however I did NOT check after the update how much space was "Available" after the update on the iPhone itself.
While streaming a long movie (LOTR extended) from the iCloud through the Apple Video app; now under iOS 8, I received a notification that my Storage space was nearly used up. While looking in Settings\Usage\Storage I can see that I had roughly 250MB of space "Available" but only 12.7GB was "USED." Here is were things get strange. Looking into the "Manage Storage" section I added up all of the space "used" by the apps listed (Video app was NOT listed) and came up with a sum of 6GB of used space. Now why is that? The listed 12.7GB of used space is not equal to 6GB what is using up the remaining 6.7GB?
Now my research of the web suggests iOS 7 was ~3.5GB in size and my best GUESS at iOS 8 is that it is a16GB - 12.7GB = 3.3GB; although I thought iOS 8 was going to use up more space? For the sake of argument lets say iOS 8 is 5.8GB and my calculated Used Space it 6GB, that equals 11.8GB. Where are the remaining 4.2GB?
Keep in mind I added No new apps (albeit a few updates to FindMyFrieds, Remote, Pages, AirPort Utility, FindMyiPhone all to be iOS 8 compatable). I also force quit the VIDEO app thinking that the video that was streaming was taking up local storage while it was playing. Is it possible that the memory was used up by the stream and is not being Released; hence it seems I have no available space?
Powering the phone down and re-starting it did not seem to do anything.
I still need to go home, connect to iTunes and double check if the available space on the phone matches to what iTunes see.

searching.4.answers . . . sounds like you too were able to "inform" your device that the content is no longer needed, great. I posted a solution that later didn't work for me when I streamed another video (see my post dated Nov 1 - cjdmedia). I then had great success using what others in this forum have suggested . . . I downloaded the free ibrowse app (do a quick google search for this and you'll find the website for it). Sure enough it was a piece of cake to navigate to the iCloud assets folder and find and delete the video file. That is my solution from now on. Unfortunate that I need to do that to have my storage space clear.
Also in my post I shared that I thought this was a bug, unfortunately I now believe that this could be intended behavior. The only question is how long does this data just sit there until it is removed by the system? or is it removed by the system? If it is not removed by the system at some point then a strong argument could be made that this is a bug. Streaming means that data is not permenantly saved on the device, right?
My fundamental issue is that I have 16GB storage that really means I have a total of 12.8GB (so says my iPhone). With no personal photos or videos, only 300MB of music, some books etc, and all the apps I want installed on my iPhone I end up with only 9GB available for anything else. A typical movie in HD takes up half of that. Not aware that the data of movies was being stored on my phone while streaming I completely filled up my iPhone only days after completely wiping and setting up. When I got the notification that my phone was full when trying to take video of my kids Trick-or-Treating - I was infuriated that something was hogging the memory in my phone, perhaps I had upgraded to iOS 8 too early before known issues were eliminated. I thought I had 9GB of space for pictures and video! To be fair, Apple did not ruin Halloween because my wife had her iPhone. I also know that this "issue" has been around since iOS 7 (based on my searching) and I haven't seen any confirmation it has ever been dealt with. From another apple discussion forum stream itunes purchased movies to iPad I discovered that if your device is almost full you can still "stream" because somehow the system knows how much space you have and then behaves more like what you'd expect from streaming which is interesting.
So to wrap this long post . . . it is obvious that to stream there needs to be data stored locally, but it is unclear how much data and how long this data will stay on your device. The quickest solution (requires a computer) is to use the iBrowse app and manually delete the movie files in the iCloud assets folder.

Payment terms are not relefant for G/L account line items.
When you want to have it in you have to make the fields optional in the field status group from the g/l account and in the posting key. For normal posting this field hidden in the posting key!
The field you have then to fill with a substitution / user exit

Custim repeats calender apps for the ipad

I do not want any that are very expenstive. the default calender app is nice but not a lot of ways to customize it. the calender just needs the times and has to have custom repeat options. is calpad worth the price? i tried the lite version and filling out a couple of days it told me to add any more events unless i bought the full version.

You could try searching App Shopper but I don't believe the iPad has the bluetooth profile to do something like this.

Let's start from the beginning: I have aSony Vaio VGN-SR21M/S laptop which sports an ATI Mobility Radeon HD3470, I use it at work and I love the dual monitor setup. Things worked beautifully with xorg-server 1.5 and catalyst 9.1, so I even wondered why so many people complains about ATI stuffs under Linux. But then xorg-server 1.6 came...
At first, I sticked with catalyst 9.4 from AUR, single and dual monitor worked (even if holding down a key made the X server crash when using dual monitor). After an upgrade (don't remember which one) catalyst refused to work, causing a segfault when starting X (the infamous signal 11 which fills the forums in these days). I tried to recompile the drivers, to reinstall the server, but nothing worked, so I decided to switch to the open xf86-video-ati driver.
The open driver works pretty well with single screen, but dual screen is driving me mad. Here's my xorg.conf:

I don't know if it is a driver issue (so maybe switching to radeonhd could solve the problem) or an xorg bug...

Solved. Using radeonhd instead of ati makes everything as smooth as possible. The above xorg.conf works perfectly (substituting the monitor names used by ati with those used by radeonhd). I think that the problem is R600 support in ati, which is admittedly experimental and incomplete. Hope this can help someone...

I'm trying to build a dynamic table that functions as a calendar...(see http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/javacook/chapter/ch18.html for the basic idea and code structure).
Here's the problem...I want to make each date inside of the table a hyperlink to a new page. I figured out how to create the hyperlinks, but I CAN'T figure out how to create hyperlinks that pass variables to a new page.
Here's the code that works:

Hi. The expression "<%=some_Java_expression %>" is the JSP tag, that returns string value to HTML code. You should use it in HTML block like:
<%String myname="Ivan"; %>
<body>
<p>My name is: <%=myname %></p>
But You tried to use it inside the string expression and it generated some code like this:
<a href="newpage.jsp?year=<%=yy%">...
, didn't it?
It invokes method out.print(" ... "), that prints this string value (but in the HTML block). So You tried to print something inside the print method. You should rewrite Your code like this:
