TM hung up - what to do?

Mac mini i5 late 2012, HD500GB,16GB 1600 MHz DDR3, OS X 10.8.2
After a problem accessing the Parallels VM, I tried to restore the whole disk. Time Machine hung up after about 2/3 of the process, I waited several hours to be sure, shut down and rebooted. Eventualy, my first roblem has been solved, but I ended up with less about 100Gb of free space on the HD. I suppose that the remnants of the unfinished restore operation are using that space, however I cannot "see" those unwanted files with Finder.
What shall I do to regain that waisted disk space, any ideas?
Thank You

Your input led me to further investigation. In fact it is on the main HD the space was missing, not on the external drive, however I checked again the used space on the HD with Finder. After making the hidden files viewable, I found within the folder 'Volumes' a subfolder with the name of the external drive and the timestamp with the hour I started the problematic restore. This subfolder with about 125GB was there even after I ejected the external drive. Assuming this was the misterious space, I deleted it (keeping my fingers crossed...).
After rebooting with everything running smoothly, I emptied the trash can and regained the missing space!

  • Whenever I try to sync my ipod touch, it doesn't work.  The computer seems to get hung.  What could be happening?

Whenever I try to sync my ipod touch, it doesn't work.  The computer seems to get hung during the back up stage.  It says it is backing up the ipod but nothing happens, for hours.  I eventually have to interrupt it and give up.

    I have the latest itunes.
    I tried resetting sync history.
    For this section:
If the issue persists, and you know all your contacts, calendars, bookmarks and notes are on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:
Remove all of the contact and calendar information from Outlook.
Select the device in iTunes and click the Info tab.
Scroll down to the Advanced section, and under "Replace information on this iPhone/iPad/iPod touch" make sure Contacts and Calendars are not selected.
    Click Apply.
This doesn't seem to make sense for my situation.  I don't sync anything between outlook and my ipod touch.
I have no other USB devices connected to my computer.
I have no other Windows users on my computer - only me and I am the administrator.  However on my diagnostic, it said this user is not the administrator.  Weird.
So I have tried to follow that you referred me to, but still I haven't got it working yet.  Do you have any further suggestions?

  • "Updating Creative Cloud desktop" hung -- now what?

Was prompted this morning to update Creative Cloud desktop app (Window 7). Accepted and waited, then, when prompted, allowed installer to run as administrator. The green progress bar has been stuck at nearly done for about 30 minutes. I tried shutting down every other obvious running program to no avail. When I started the update, Google Chrome was open along with a couple of local apps.
Can I safely kill the "Adobe Installer" program with Windows Task Manager and then install the desktop app from the new copy of CreativeCloudSup-Up.exe file I downloaded this morning? Do I need to reboot before installing?
    Edited to add the following:
No other Adobe apps (e.g., PS, LR, Reader) were running when I started the update.
    Edit: corrected spelling
    Thanks,
    -- Sam

When I tried to kill the installed via Windows Task Manager, I was told that the program was waiting for input from me but there was no prompt so I killed the process mercilessly. When I tried to uninstall the application, I was told that another copy of it was running somewhere in memory. So I rebooted, uninstalled the app, installed afresh from this morning's "CreativeCloudSet_up.exe" file, logged in to my Adobe account, and all seems well.
Was not thrilled with the experience but, hey, it's working now.

  • What the heck is iTunes uploading?

After a frustrating week trying to use iTunes match, I've finally gotten a good chunk of my library in the cloud. The problem is the remaining 10 gigs: all live DJ sets that are roughly 2 hours long. They hover around 180 mb each, so under the limit.
Problem is, I cannot get these to upload at all. I got lucky with one, and another matched, but the rest have been a boondoggle. I've tried many things, and as an experiment I decided to remove all of them from my library, add JUST ONE back into my iTunes, and then keep Activity Monitor open to see what exactly is happening.
And this is what I get: I added back in a file that is 189 mb large. I started the transfer about two hours ago. With Activity Monitor open and set to the Netowrk tab, I originally had "Data sent: 18.38 gb". I verified that I didn't have any thing else really doing any uploads (every once and a while I'd see "Data sent/sec" spike to 1k/second or so, so I figured it was probably just Mail checking my inbox). Now it's two hours later, Data sent/sec has ranged from 40k/sec to 90k/sec (darn ADSL's slow upload speeds). But here's the kicker, I see "Data sent: 18.69 gb"
Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but a 189 mb file added to 18.38 gb should equal around 18.58 gb. Which means that iTunes has magically uploaded an additional 100 mb or so of data. Even considering the fact that, since this is an mp3, it'd get re-encoded into an AAC, I find it very unlikely that we're talking about a 50% decrease in compression efficiency, and keep in mind that the upload STILL ISN'T FINISHED. In fact, as I write this, it's now at 18.73 gb data sent and no sign of stopping.
Does anyone know what exactly is happening here? This mirrors my experiences with my first few attempts at uploading these sets: 10 gigs at once, but 6 gigs of uploading later, not a single one had finished. WHAT THE HECK IS ITUNES MATCH DOING??? I'm seriously considering canceling and seeing if I can get my money back, since I mainly cared about being able to stream these sets onto my iPad.

Uh just to update, at around 18.77 gb data sent, data has stopped being uploaded from iTunes. Except it's still not done "uploading" the one song. So now I guess it's officially hung.  WHAT'S HAPPENING???

  • Everytime I open my itunes it closes saying a problem has occurred but it doesnt say what the problem is. What is happening?, Everytime I open my itunes it closes saying a problem has occurred but it doesnt say what the problem is. What is happening?

Everytime I open my itunes since I was told to update, I get a message saying a problem has occured and itunes must close. However I'm never told what the problem is or given any hlep barr download the update. I have uninstalled and reinstalled three times but it still doesnt work...
    HELP!!!!!

  • Lion administrator setting changed to read only for file sharing. Now hung machine

I was trying to network my Mac with a WIndows 7 machine and tried to have my name in the file sharing read write instead of other users such as administrator   when I changed the administrator to read  only for file sharing rights and could not add my name as a file sharing user with read write permissions Really silly move
I have performed a repair of disk permissions however still hung.
Whats worse is that my time machine for the last three days has been disconnecting when backing up leaving a partially complete backup. Backup failed. I also left a apple support community message a few days ago to solve it.
    So its critical
    Timely HELP is needed.

This same problem happened to me, all the sudden one day my mac decided to revert to the original standard root username and password which I obviously did not know. In order to change this:
    1) Activate single user mode on reboot as by pressing cmd + s as your computer starts up. Make sure you do it right away, and keep the keys pressed down.
    2) Where the cursor pops up, type exactly
    +/sbin/mount - uw/+
    3) When the next cursor pops up type exactly
    passwd
    4) Then you can type any password you want (now changing the root password to be what you want)
Note you will not be able to see what you type, but the text is being recognized
5)The computer asks for you to retype the password, retype it
    6) Type reboot
Once the computer restarts you can navigate to system preferences>accounts> and then unlock the account (lock is located on the bottom left corner) using Username: root and the password you just set. Henceforth, you can appoint your account as the administrator. Hope it works!

  • IWeb will NOT open domain package, tried many things.

I hope someone can help me. I searched the forum several times and went through all six pages of results looking for an answer. I did try everything listed in the few posts that did seem related, as well as a lot of those tips in combination with others, but nothing has helped.
Problem: After an AppleStore hard drive replacement, I copied things over from my Time Machine backup, as well as a backup of the more important things on another external drive. I copied things very peacemeal, basically starting from scratch for a few weeks to make sure the problem I was having was gone. (It's not, but that's a story for another day). When it came time to copy over my domain file and open it, it wouldn't open with iWeb. That is to say, doubleclicking it would open iWeb, but even watching activity monitor like a hawk, I couldn't see that it was doing anything.
Here is what I HAVE tried:
1 - deleted current domain file, and copied old one in it's place. No change.
2 - emptied the folder usually used to hold the domain, opened iWeb to create a new one. Close iWeb, copy domain to desktop, then copy the old one in it's place. No change.
3 - delete preferences and caches for iWeb, then repeat step 2. No change.
4 - delete preferences and caches for iWeb, then delete any combination of the following from the domain package: .plist files, domainstate.archive file, index.xml file. I tried this step about six times, with a different combination of these files each time, finishing with a repeat of step 2, and testing it. The only combinations that had any change were leaving only the index.xml file in the package, which got me about a second-long loading bar, then nothing, and leaving both the index.xml and the domainstate.archive in the package, which got iWeb to peak around 90-110% CPU (on activity monitor), flash the app not responding message a few times, then about 10 seconds later, it started idling again, nothing having opened.
Each time I've tried both opening iWeb first, and then actually doubleclicking the domain package. No difference between them. Then I copied the iWeb app from the time machine backup into my documents folder, and manually tried to open the domain package, with .plists missing, with that copy of iWeb. No change there either.
Both copies of iWeb, the one that last saved to the domain, and the one I'm trying to open it with, are the same version. I don't even been an OS update since it was last saved; I'm pretty sure I was on 10.6.4 then too.
I'm a little hung on what to do next. There isn't much in the domain package that could be causing issues except for the ones I tried copying out; everything else is just pretty standard file types.
That said, I'm not sure what could be causing the issue on the iWeb end, since I not only deleted the preferences and caches, but also tried a whole different application file.
I am planning to do a clean install on this computer, yet again, and start from scratch in hopes I can pinpoint what is causing my (unrelated to this issue) problem, for the Apple tech guys.
Should I just do another Time Machine backup with this new image, as well as keeping the old one, and then try to copy it over again when I've re-installed? I was hoping not to have to do it for another few weeks, because I'll need another external, since this one is out of space, but I also need to be able to edit this site!
Any help anyone has, even it's just a hunch of a suggestion, would be fantastic, and very appreciated. At this point, I'll try anything that won't damage any of my data, no matter how far-fetched.
    Thanks!

It sounds as if the problems, or the symptoms at least, are the same. When I double click the domain file, iWeb opens (with the open/welcome/tutorial screen if I've just deleted preference and cache files), and I'll get the menu bar, but nothing else. With the right combination of files removed from the domain package (see my previous posts for that), I can coax a loading bar out of it, but it "loads" in the normal few seconds, and nothing displays. Nada. Menu bar has iWeb, but almost all of the items in any drop down menu are greyed out, all the important ones I checked for anyway, and you can see either the desktop or finder window, or whatever other application that was open before you clicked the domain file.
I'm not sure I included this in my last post, but I did try just simply disabling MobileMe, but without any luck. I never really thought it would work, but figured it could never hurt to try.
The disk utility found a few permissions problems, but none were related to iWeb, they all actually seemed to stem from one thing. I did repair, but no improvement. I'm hoping to have some time this weekend to try some different things to see if I can get it to open. I'll keep a detailed list of what seemed to help, what didn't, and if I'm lucky, what solved it. Short of that, free time allowing, I plan to do a clean install I need to do for another reason, on Sunday. Unfortunately that means you guys won't get any details as to what would have solved it short of something drastic like that (hopefully that will solve it...) but I've got deadlines approaching, not only for that, but for the initial reason for the clean install.
I will try everything I can think of, and anything anyone else can think of, and will volunteer to me. I'm going to move enough files around this evening and tomorrow on my externals to do a full time machine backup, plus second backup of the more important files, so anything you want to suggest, I'll be a testing ground, so others with the issue hopefully won't have to resort to the clean install. As re-installing iWeb had no effect, I'm going to assume, with my limited knowledge in this area, that problem stems from a shared file or the domain package itself. Hopefully not the latter; it's all I've got.
Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions of even something to look for that might serve to flag my attention to investigate further, I'd appreciate it, so we can get a solid plan of attack for others.
Thanks for your help so far, everyone!

  • Why is adobe premier elements 12 the worst version yet and with no content unless you go online

I even had adobe chat guy online and take control of my pc and after about 2 hours of trying all he could say was i could cut n paste content from my adobe elements 10 into 12 then he hung up what good is it buying 12 if I have to use 10 to use 12 this is not the first case of problems with premier elements and downloading content even with version 10 coming with contents disk still wouldn't load for me this and other problems with crashes even running a very high spec pc . I wouldn't recommend premier elements to anyone at the moment and am seriously thinking of alternative software am looking now unless adobe can exsplain my problems ,ps dont even bother trying to use HD in it either

    greg
What edition of Windows is your Premiere Elements 10 or 12 running on?
Yes, you can copy/paste insert between Premiere Elements project when you use the 3rd party software ClipMate is conjunction with Premiere Elements.
The version specific information is found in my blog post
ATR Premiere Elements Troubleshooting: PE: ClipMate Copy/Paste Between Projects
Premiere Elements 10 should do a complete job of it. Premiere Elements 12 fares well with the technique except that the transitions in project 1 do not copy/paste along with the rest during the task. But, the copy/paste insert is nothing new to Premiere Elements 12; consequently this should not be a surprise to you since you have used  10.
The Content for versions later than 10 is online download only; whereas, Premiere Elements 10 offers online content if you purchased the program as a download and Content disc if you purchased the boxed packaging of the product. You can read the details if you have not already.
    http://www.atr935.blogspot.com/2013/05/pe11-no-content-disc-content-downloads.html
ATR Premiere Elements Troubleshooting: PE 7, 8, 9,10: Content Download
If you got stuck with Content download in Premiere Elements 10, that was your choice since a Content disc was available for 10 when you purchased the boxed packaging of the product.  I much prefer the Content disc but I had no choice other than Content download for 11 and 12 even though I purchased boxed packaging. And, If you could not load Content from a version 10 Content disc, you have more problems that just the Content download and the Copy/Paste Insert matter.
If you want user to user troubleshooting help with Premiere Elements 10 or 12 and are willing to get involved in 10 and/or 12 troubleshooting of your core problems, then please let us begin the exchange of information.
    Thank you.

  • JMS server hangs!?

    Hi all:
It seems the JMS server hangs in WLS 6.1 after one Tx timeout due to
some reason. The following is the tread dump. Can anyone tell me why? or
    any hints?
The WLS server still functions, web server and app server both are

The exception is also attached as follows.

Wow Zach, comprehnsive response. I'm gonna take not of that response and
    use it on my team!
Minjiang, the stack trace reports a transaction timeout. This can happen
druing a long running bean process , and will be further aggrevated if you
are running in debug mode. Try increasing the timeout in your deployment
descriptor, or, optimize your code ;)

JMS does not appear on any of the stacks in the thread dump.
Please describe the actual symptoms you are seeing (as oppposed
to the moer general statement that the JMS server hangs).
Can you get an application to attach to the server (create
an initial context and do some JNDI lookups). Can that
application then create a JMS connection, a JMS session,
and so forth. At what point does it hang. How do you
know it is hung? what is not happening? what do you
expect to happen? Do you have listeners that stop
responding? Do you see messages in the destinations
from the console? What JVM is this?
Nteo that the exception/error you posted is for an invocation of
    com.kbf.ejb.remotemgr.RemoteMgrBean.getOldCurrPairRates()
which has exactly nothing to do with JMS. It is not being invoked
by JMS and does not appear to be invoking JMS.

    Hi all:
It seems the JMS server hangs in WLS 6.1 after one Tx timeout due to
some reason. The following is the tread dump. Can anyone tell me why? or
    any hints?
The WLS server still functions, web server and app server both are
responding to request. Only the JMS server hangs.
The exception is also attached as follows.
    Thanks.

  • Select Query Hangs

    Hi,
Is there a possibility of a SELECT QUERY (table of about 5000 rows) getting hung?
What could be the possible reason and how to resolve this? Again an interview question?
    Regards,
    SA

A very broad level question.Definetly a query retrieveing data from a table having 5k rows can hang. You need to study explain plan, wait events and many more.

It appears hung. What do i do continue and how do i figure out what caused this?

Wasnt sure where to look in the event viewer. Any tips on where the errors would be?
It took a while but what i ended up doing was deleting the "bad" boxes. I am not sure how the got to their broken state.
I also could not delete them via the gui. I had to do it via powershell. It was odd i couldnt delete it with just the powershell command i had to pipe the resource like this
    Get-ClusterResource | Where-Object {$_.name -eq "Virtual Machine ABC-VM22"} | Remove-ClusterResource

  • Mail and "loading message"

Every once in a while I have a hard time reading my emails.  I use a Go Daddy IMAP account.
If an email has already been downloaded from the server, for example, if it's a few days old and I have already read it, why does the email say "loading" if I look for it a few days later????  The value of having an email app that's not web based, l like gmail or hotmail, is that the emails have been downloaded on your computer and readily availble for later use.
I have the latest OS which is Mavericks I believe.  It does not happen all the time but it's  really annoying and slows me down at work.  I have browsing capabilities so it's not necessarily a connectivity issue.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

are you using IMAP or POP?  is it an incoming or outgoing message that's hung?  what's your mail provider?
try this: disconnect from the internet, open Mail, wait for it to time out, then rebuild your mailboxes.  see if that fixes it.

  • IPhone 4 - OS5

I just purchased an Iphone4 with OS 4.3.3....Having a lot of problems with it that I am not happy with.
Can't send emails from my Iphone
Can't delete emails from my Iphone
When I open my mailbox it still say's "checking for mail" for quite some time, it is however, bring my mail across but slowly but this is draining my battery, so this a.m.
I am getting kicked out of my mailbox when reading emails
My calendar takes a full minute "loading" but not all the time
When I try to Edit a calendar item my "edit" button still does not work all the time….
when I try to edit a phone contact, I also get hung?
What should I do, I'm am really totally frustrated with this.    It worked relatively fine for the first week then started going downhill from there.  Now from bad to worse....

Oh by the way, I was told to upgrade to IOS 5 and then delete my email and re-add, to no avail.  I tried the other hints about closing the apps that are "open" in the background, that worked once, but not again.  I also tried the hint of holding down the power button until you get the slide choice and then hitting the home button until your phone came back on, but that only worked once also......ughghghghgh
