TM not let me back up a 32GB flash drive?

I would like to back up a 32 GB flash drive in addition to my hard drives via Time Machine - but TM won't let me remove the device from its excluded list??  Am I doing something wrong here?  Please advise.

The flash drive will need to be formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Then, you will be able to remove it from the "excluded" list so it will be backed up by Time Machine.
Be sure to move any data off of the drive before you format it, as this process will erase the drive. Then, move the data back to the drive after it has been formatted.

How do I copy or download my recovery disk (D drive) onto a 32GB flash drive?

Your HP 500-164 has WIN8.0. If you upgrade to the free WIN8.1, it has a built-in create USB recovery drive.
    NOTE:
If your PC came with Windows 8 and you upgraded it to Windows 8.1, your recovery drive will include Windows 8, and you’ll need to upgrade to Windows 8.1 after you refresh or reset your PC.

  • Updated to latest operating system on MacBook Pro and now won't let me drag files onto a flash drive.

Updated to latest operating system OS X Mavericks on MacBook Pro and now won't let me drag files onto a flash drive.

The Flash Disk must be NTSF formatted. Writing to NTFS requires 3rd party drivers (Tuxera, Paragon). Reading from NTFS however does not require these. So install NTFS drivers, or format the drive in FAT32 from Disk Utility.
    Hope this helps :-)

  • 32GB Flash Drive - Uses too much power???

Hey guys, FINALLY found a camera connection kit the other day at an Apple store. I bought a 32gb flash drive (Patriot 32GB Razzo PSF32GRUSB) thinking I could use that to transfer pictures to the ipad via the camera connection kit's USB adapter.
Most of the articles I read on the internet led me to believe that usb flash drives work with the kit. However, when I plug in the drive, the light on the drive momentarily lights up then I get an error msg on the ipad that the accessory consumes too much power. I then tried plugging in a passive usb hub and I got the same exact error msg (nothing was plugged into the hub at the time).
I plugged in a generic 1gb usb flash drive and sadly that worked. Anyone have issues with large flash drives? Thanks!

I have an old and physically large 4 GB flash drive that gives the same error message, Therefore, that jives with your suggestion that it is power issue and is dependent upon the physical size (how many chips) as well as capacity.

  • MacBook Pro will not let me back up document to CD

On my MacBook Pro, I am trying to back up a document to CD. I am getting a message that says, "You do not have permission to load document to 'filename'. Make sure you have write access for this location". I did a repair permissions in Disk Utility, not sure why it will not let me. Any suggestions?

    Hi kjgaraffa,
In order to save a file from an application to a CD, you need to first save the file to your MacBook's drive and then burn the resulting file to the CD. See this article for how to burn the CD -

Forgotten Passcode or device disabled after entering wrong passcode
If you have Find My iPhone enabled, you can use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.
Alternatively, place the device in recovery mode and restore it to erase the device:
Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to shut down.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
iTunes will alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then restore the device

  • Disk Utility won't let me do anything with broken flash drive?

    Hi there,
I own an 8GB SanDisk flashdrive that recently, and out of nowhere, changed permissions to write only. I feel like this may have something to do with the fact that when it was in my old Macbook I would close the screen with it still inserted and it would eject itself and the drive has possibly become corrupt because of this happening one too many times? Anyhow, when moving files around and to my new Macbook and what not, I tried to move some from this USB and it wouldn't let me. I eventually worked out that it would let me copy the files and paste them elsewhere, but now I have this flash drive with a bunch of files that can still be read and I don't know what to do with it because it won't let me delete them either. When I try it comes up with "The item can't be moved to the trash because it can't be deleted." I've tried Disk Utility and this is what happens under the First Aid, Erase and Partition options
I've also tried the appropriate commands in terminal to try to get the disk utility to respond and I kept recieving error messages there too. Also, when I click on the volume underneath the disk it shows all the space that all the files that are very much there are taking up but then also says there's zero files.
Anyone know what on earth is going on?! I mean I know the USB has probably just had it but I'm wondering if there's any possible way I can repair or erase it at this point?

I suspect that the USB is dead.  This is the result I get when I insert my USB drive formatted the same as yours:
Note that the options are not grayed out.
You might connect it to a PC, if available, and see if there is any difference.
    Ciao.

  • Toshiba 32GB Flash Drive and lock software for Ubuntu

Got myself a 32GB Toshiba Usb Flash Drive which comes with lock software. Works fine in Vista but if I stick it in my Ubuntu driven desktop, the files on the drive can be accessed or copied or deleted, so the software what comes with the drive is pretty useless as security.
    Any suggestions please?

    Hi Gumnut,
What Toshiba flash drive you have exactly because there are different models on the market? Im not owner of such flash drive but as far as I know Toshiba doesnt support Linux so this software will not run on Linux so the drive isnt locked.
You can also contact Toshiba directly. I found an e-mail address on Toshiba memory product page:

Just write an email and you can get an official answer! :)

  • H: not found when insert the card of flash drive for auto import In Lightroom CC

when i try to auto import Inside Lightroom 6 or CC getting an error "H: not found" as soon as i plug the memory card or any flash drive to the computer. i'm using lightroom CC win 7 64 bit

Lightroom does reliably write capture time to industry-standard metadata fields in photos.   If you are indeed using the File > Import command a second time to re-import the photos after first importing them into LR, what's likely happening is that you're not telling LR to write the metadata changes back to the photos.  There are two ways to do this:  1) Select all the photos and do Metadata > Save Metadata To File, or 2) Select the option Catalog Settings > Automatically Write Changes Into XMP.
If this does not fix the issue, then you'll need to provide more detail about the precise steps you're taking, with command names and options.
direct Lightroom to change each photo file name to match its new capture date
Stepping back, re-importing the photos back into LR isn't necessary to rename photos with their capture date -- use the Library > Rename Photos command.

  • Firefox will not let me back up bookmarks worked earlier in April but not now

My bookmarks will not save. I try backing up in downloads section for Windows 8.1 Update 1 and desktop section but nothing. just wont save. Worked back on April 24. Recently I just updated my Adobe applications and Adobe Edge Code CC took over the default file. Maybe that is causing it? I dont remember what the original file was but image was white. Is it notepad or wordpad? Those are the 2 other programs show when I hover over open with after right clicking a prior back up. Anyone know a fix or if this is widespread bug? If its one of those 2 programs and I just have to change back can someone tell me? Any help would be great.

What steps are you following to create the backup -- is it the method described in this article: [[Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer]]?
If Windows is not showing the full names of some Firefox files, for example, if it is hiding extensions such as .js and .json, please switch the Windows setting so you can identify the files as accurately as possible. Hi R. Weav27,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  This article has some troubleshooting steps for issues with push notifications:
    iOS: Understanding notifications
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3576
    Troubleshooting notifications
Push notifications require an active Wi-Fi or cellular connection.
Note: Notifications use Wi-Fi only when a cellular connection is unavailable. Firewalls and proxy servers may affect your ability to receive notifications. For more information, see Unable to use Apple Push Notification service (APNs).
If you're not receiving notifications for a specific app, try these steps:
Verify that the app supports notifications.
After installing an app or restoring a backup to a different iOS device, open the app to begin receiving notifications. If the app requires entering or logging in to an account, you will need to do this before receiving notifications.
Check Settings > Notification Center to ensure that the app is configured for notifications. If notifications do not appear in the Notification Center, verify that the Notification Center setting for the app is enabled.
    Cheers,
    - Ari

  • HT1414 My iPad will not progress past the home screen. My computer will not let me back it up. What can I do?

My iPad will not progress past the home screen, and my computer doesn't allow me to download my data from it. What do I do? I wanted to try to restore it, but I don't want to lose my "stuff".

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here. You WILL lose your "stuff" with Recovery Mode.

  • HT4479 After not receiving the Verification Email i realized the email had a typo/error. How do i correct it when it will not let me back in because i have not verified ?

When creating a new ID i incorrectly entered the email address. How do i correct it when i cannot sign in because its telling me i must first verify

Then, if there's any data on the drive that you want to keep, you have to back up before you do anything else -- assuming it's still possible.
    Basically you have three options:
    1. Install a copy of the Mac OS on an external hard drive, boot from it, and copy the data from the internal drive.
    2. Start the problem Mac in FireWire target mode (command-T at startup) and connect it to a working Mac with a FireWire cable. The internal drive will mount as a FireWire device.
    3. Remove the internal drive and mount in an external enclosure on another Mac.
Once you've backed up, follow the sequence in the support article linked below. The article is somewhat outdated. Where it refers to booting from an installation disc, you should boot from your recovery partition (if running Lion) by holding down the key combination command-R at the chime.
