TM stuck at "Transferring Information"

I replaced and upgraded the HD on my MacBook Pro and installed OS X on the new HD. I am now trying to restore from a time machine backup. Everything was going well until it got to "Transferring Information...". The progress bar and estimated time remaining have not changed and the mouse icon has remained that spinning colorful wheel thing for quite some time now. It seems to be stuck while trying to transfer my documents. Has anyone had this problem or know how to fix it? Is this normal and will it eventually get through it? Any help would be much appreciated!! Thanks!

I read the FAQ and I believe I did everything in #14 correctly and it still didn't work after trying probably three of four times. Unfortunately I do not have the logs. Is there a way to display the logs when restoring after OSX is installed?
No, those logs are deleted when you abort the restore.
There isn't a bar at the top of the screen to provide any options, but the box that says "Transforming Information...".
Again, that sounds like you did not do a full restore per #14, but are using either +Setup Assistant+ or +Migration Assistant+ per #19.
I am currently stuck with 2 hours and 24 minutes remains which is less than 1/4 of the way on the progress bar.
All I can do is recommend that you start over with #14, and follow those instructions carefully. Re-format your new drive again, to be sure it's right, in step (c), and while you're in Disk Utility, select your Time Machine drive there and repair your backups. Then proceed with step (d). Step (h) shows how to display the log.
If there's a problem, make detailed notes so you can tell us exactly what didn't happen the way it says, and on which step. If it hangs, note the contents of the last few lines of the log.

  • New Macbook Pro stuck on transferring information screen?

I just purchased a MacBook Pro and attempted transferring my information from my old Asus laptop running Windows 7. I downloaded and installed the Windows Migration Assistant, and about half an hour into the transfer a screen came up on my Asus saying that the connection had been lost. After waiting about an hour with no success, I closed the window on the Asus and decided I could transfer the information at a later time. However, the transferring information screen on my Mac is still up, and I can't get it to close. I would prefer fixing the problem to transfer all of my files now, but I also don't mind simply closing the program entirely and transferring everything later. However, I don't know how to get out of the transfer screen on the Mac. I don't really want to manually shut down the computer, as I haven't entirely finished the setup process. Any ideas? Thanks!

If your Mac and PC are connected by Ethernet, unplug and plug that cable again. If not, you have to turn off the MacBook by holding the Power button.
In the next startup, try to transfer your files again. It's important not to interrupt the transfer process, because in most cases, you will stop it and you won't be able to resume it

  • New install - migrate from Time Machine stuck at Transferring Information

Just got a new MBP and hooked it up to my USB drive to let it run overnight migrating my old settings and Applications.
The bar's full, it says "Less than a minute remaining", but appears to be stuck. It's transferring my Applications folder apparently, or so it claims.
It's about 40 GB of data all told.
Any ideas? I'm going to try Firewire next, or copying my Documents folder manually so the amount of data is smaller.

Same issue transferring via FireWire 800 cables form an older iMac to a new one. Stuck at 1 minute for a very long time until the new Mac gave a message that the other Mac had stopped responding. It gave me the option of terminating the transfer, which I did. Then, it congratulated me on a successful transfer. Unfortunately, things are working poorly. For instance, iPhoto can't find my library. iMovie can't find my movies, etc.
    Transfer help welcome.

  • Migration Assistant hangs during "Transfering Information"

I have just purchased a Mac Pro and are using Migration Assistant to transfer files, etc from my G4 Dual 867 (running 10.40.10). The G4 goes into “Fire Wire Target Disk Mode” with no problems. When I boot my Mac Pro, during the initial “Welcome” sequence, it sees the G4, but hangs during “Transfering Information”. I have tried transfering only my settings (10k) incase it the 20 or so gigs was too much data, but this failed as well.
    Any ideas?

I'm experiencing the same problem as the person who initiated this thread. I repaired my earlier system's drive with Disk Utility, and still the whole process hangs up on the "Transferring Information" screen.
What the heck? This shouldn't be very complicated, should it?

In some folks' version of the world, you have plenty of ways. YOu have the aforementioned services, you have iCloud, all you need is an internet connection and you're good to go. And that works perfectly...if you always have the internet.
If you want more non-internet dependant ways, then the best way to let Apple know is to send them feedback. They don't monitor or respond to this forum (Beyond removing rule breaking posts) but they do at least log feedback. However, the lack of a file manager will always be an obstacle. There are some apps out there that have at least a pseudo file manager - as in the ability to move documents into multiple other apps. I have Readdle Docs which I can use to download and move things around with, but again, back to the internet or wireless.

  • Frozen Macbook Air transferring information

    HI
First time on here so be gentle, please!
I was setting up my new MacBook Air and was transferring information over from my iMac and my wi-fi cut out.
Since then I have had the transferring information box saying "cancelling migration.." under a minute to go for the past few hours!
I haven't a clue how to escape from what is, effectively, a frozen scheme
    Can anyone help, please?

Which version of OSX are you running? If it is Lion, startup in disk recovery mode, by holding command-R during the startup process.
Select and run Disk Utility. If Disk Utility can see the OSX parition, do a Disk Verify and Repair.
If not, report back here for more advice on how to proceed.
Do you have a backup of your MacBook Air disk?

Yes - but - you need an app that supports file sharing and you still need iTunes on a computer, or you need an app like Folder Plus that lets you mount the iPad like a USB drive. You need the helper app on the computer as well.

  • SP1 Cumulative update 4 stuck on "Downloading information"

I have a server that is attempting to install the SP1 CU4 update for SCCM 2012 client but never succeeds. If you go into the Software Center on the machine, the status is continually stuck at "Downloading information".
I tried to force it by copying the installation package to the server and running the command line option specified in the package properties (msiexec.exe /p configmgr2012ac-sp1-kb2922875-x64.msp /L*v %TEMP%\configmgr2012ac-sp1-kb2922875-x64.msp.LOG /q REINSTALL=ALL
REINSTALLMODE=mous). The installation ran and appears to have been applied successfully (the version of the client shown in Control Panel --> Configuration Manager Properties went from 5.00.7804.1000 to 5.00.7804.1500) and the Software Center icon
    went away afterwards.
I was just finishing up congratulating myself when I received a notification from the Software Center again that software was being installed. I opened up Software Center, and there it was again - SP1 CU4 stuck at "Downloading information".
I've rebooted several times, but Software Center continues to pop up every time with same status.
One thing I should note, I recently migrated my SCCM server to new hardware and this "problem server" was installed after the migration. Prior to that, all of my other servers received the SP1 CU4 without issue. Both servers (SCCM and
problem server) are Windows Server 2012 R2.

    Thanks for the reply Anoop.
I checked the logs mentioned in the article, and everything looks fine as far as I can tell up until "Step 5: Tracking the Content Download."
In the "DataTransferService" log, there are numerous error messages:
    [CCMHTTP] ERROR: URL=http://server.domain.local:80/SMS_DP_SMSPKG$/RIC00009, Port=80, Options=224, Code=0, Text=CCM_E_BAD_HTTP_STATUS_CODE
Error sending DAV request. HTTP code 404, status 'Not Found'
    GetDirectoryList_HTTP('http://server.domain.local:80/SMS_DP_SMSPKG$/RIC00009') failed with code 0x87d0027e.
So looks like I have an IIS problem? I opened IIS Manager, and browsed to the directory on the DP server. In that directory, I see several other directories (DataLib, FileLib, PkgLib). I assume my package information should be in the "PkgLib" folder, but
inside that folder are just four .INI files (RIC00001.INI, RIC00002.INI, etc). There is no RIC00009.INI file, maybe that's my problem?
I also went into Config Mgr Console --> Administration --> Distribution Points, went to the properties of my Distribution Point, then to the "Content" tab, highlighted my package and clicked "Validate". Not sure though what this accomplishes.

  • Ordering cards - I'm stuck at "transferring photos" with my laptop fan whirring nonstop in the background.  I've waited up to two hours for the computer to complete this step of my order, to no avail.  Any ideas?

Ordering Cars -  I'm stuck at "transferring photos".  My laptop's cooling fan whirs nonstop while waiting for this step to complete, which it hasn't even after a couple of hours.
Any ideas on how to get past this?

I do not think talking to Apple will do more than the following:
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
