TM Tips page?

Hey Pondini, and all - I was testing TM yesterday for the first time and all was going good. TM successfully created base backup at 1:44am Yesterday morning, then successful auto backups at 12:21PM & 1:21PM. I then left to go baby shopping as my wife and I are expecting in Feb 16, I left the iMac up and told it never to sleep so I could continue testing hourly backups. When I returned at around 7:00PM I checked the status of the backups and TM was reporting "calculating changes" came back around 7:00PM still the same, left it over night till this morning to discover the same, still "calculating changes". Tried to stop TM but failed. Force quite and the iMac locked up, finally restarted and the mac would not restart. I had to shut down the attached external drive use with TM then force the Mac to start with the startup disk using option at start.
All is going ok at this point, so that is good.
I checked out your Troubleshooting tips for TM and decided to perform the Full Reset, unfortunately I did not find the TimeMachine Plist in the location that you had specified, /User/Library/Preferences. I am using Snow Leopard 10.6.4. I did however find this /User/Library/Preferences/By Host/com.apple.TimeMachine.650CC91B-62F2-548F-87BC-228A801AE9CD.plist.
Not sure if this is a change with 10.6.4, not really sure if this is the correct plist for deletion to perform a Full Reset? Could you or anyone shed some light?

Look again, please. Time Machine is a system-wide app, not a user-level one, so the preference file is in the top-level /Library/Preferences folder, not your home folder. Follow the link from #A4 to #A7 if you can't find it.
I am using Snow Leopard 10.6.4. I did however find this /User/Library/Preferences/By Host/com.apple.TimeMachine.650CC91B-62F2-548F-87BC-228A801AE9CD.plist.
That's not the same one.

I've also managed to overcome this problem by selecting "Subscription Authorization" in the Alert Category Definition page, and entering SAP_XI_MONITOR as one of the roles.
After that, I am able to see a the alert category defined. By default it's already subscribed, because I'm using the same user - PISUPER.
I saw in another post that the option "Suppress Multiple Alerts of this Rule" should be left unchecked. I tried that, but I still do not see any alerts raised in ALRTDISP.
What did I miss?

There used to be a Pro Tips page on the Apple site with useful tips and shortcuts. I just noticed it in no longer accessible. Does any one know what happened to it? Does it have a new URL? The old URL is http://www.apple.com/pro/tips/

i ve got some problems with ovi store. some apps which were bought while ago (they are showed in my content bookmark in phone ovi store), but when i try to redonload them it tells me that i must buy them again! i ve got all confirmation emails with numbers of my apps.
strangeness lies in the fact that all the apps which i try to redownload are newer versions than i had. but i repeat ALL this apps are showed in my content, and they were bought by me.

Photo page question

I can import photos from iPhoto to iWeb just fine. I have a photo page that I've never been able to use correctly.
What I want to do is have 1 photo on my photo page that a visitor can click on and be taken to the page with all of the photos.
I tried several different times but always end up with ALL the photos from one photo album on one page. This isn't what I want.
Suggestions?

Calling a html page deployed in weblogic server using RequestDispatcher

Either getServletContext or getRequestDispatcher is returning null. Find out which, read the API to find out why.

Tips for speaking text (text to speech)

I have just added these notes to an OS X tips page that I created sveral years ago:
Visually impaired users should find the built-in Text-to-speech technology of OS X useful. Go to System Preferences/ Speech/ Text to Speech. Tick the "Speak selected text.." box. Enter a keyboard shortcut (I use Control-F19 as the keys are diagonally opposite on my keybaord. You will need to select text for this to work. To select all text from a document press Command-A. Then press Control-F19 to start the computer speaking. Unfortunately Microsoft apps like Word (2004) do not have this speech capability. You will need to copy (Command-C) and paste (Command-V) the text into Text Edit before invoking Text to Speech. PDF documents in Preview and email in Mail work fine.

Having a temporary patch over one eye I thought I should invoke this technology but found it difficult to locate some basic tips on the net. If you have some good links/tips please post them on this thread.

It's a bug. I have submitted feedback on this point to Apple. I really hope they take notice, because the male voice is horrible.
There is a workaround though - go to Settings/General/International/Region Format, and change the region to "Isle of Man".

What's Wrong with This Picture?

Several years ago, I copied my old Appleworks folder out of my upgraded G3 beige system that originally came with OS 8.1, that I'd updated through 8.6 to 9.0, 9.2, Panther and finally an XPostFacto install of Tiger.
Since I have four drives in my Mac Pro, I tucked it away on one of the spares and it has weathered upgrades from the original install of Tiger that came with the Mac Pro through 10.5 to Snow Leopard. Now I just read a brody's migration tip page on AppleWorks, but THIS is leaving me scratching my head!

This is the classic application - the FIRST copy I got in the fall of 2000 - and upgraded to 6.2.8 (which does not run), then to 6.2.9. The "-OLDAW6-" was what the update left in the folder afterwards. Now this classic app is running in Rosetta and only thing that crashes is the painting tool.
I guess the 64 thousand dollar question is how much more classic code is capable of running, but for it not getting somehow changed along the way like this program did? How is it that the program icon doesn't have the grey 'prohibited' symbol across it like every other classic app on my system does and WHY - here's the REAL brain-melter - can I transfer this to the G4 jukebox in my living room and have it work without the missing data-fork problems like every OTHER classic app I have that has been hit by Snow Leopard ends up with?

You are not running it in Classic - that's impossible under Snow Leopard. Your version of the application is 'Universal', running either under Classic or OSX (PPC, so Rosetta is required). The installer for that version was Classic only, oddly enough, but copying the folder as you have done will install it on OSX.
As to why Paint is crashing, that's a separate issue. You could try deleting the preference file - (user)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.appleworks.plist and the AppleWorks User Data folder in your Documents folder.
It might also be worth updating to version 6.2.9:

This is pretty stable on Snow Leopard, though minor bugs seem to be creeping in with each System upgrade.

Sprinboard screen does not work on android device

Hi experts,
I have a mobile application that i coded on JDEV 11.1.2.4. And i deploy via sdk android-4.3 version. I set DefaultSpringboard on adfmf-application.xml file.
When i deploy on AndroVM or another Android VM either SDK Emulator, i can see springboard screen properly. But deploy on real devices (tried with Android 4.1.1 Tablet, Android 4.1.2 Sony experia phone, Android 2.3.5 HTC phone) could not see anything, just seen black screen with header(written as applicationName) AdfmfContainerUtilities.showNavigationBar(); does not work also.
How can i resolve this?
Also i tried to create completely new adf mobile application that contains only 2 feature and applied the scenerio, it fails on real device too. I think that the problem is on loading featureList. Because when i created an amx page and set as CustomSpringboard. It works

Per the release notes, Wallaby only supports Chrome and Safari at this time.
And yes, it only works with Adobe Flash Professional CS5 files. To use older Adobe Flash Professional files you can resave them in CS5 and then run them through Wallaby. This is a technology preview (not a product) and therefore has certain limitations that might not exist in a shipping product.
You mention this doesn't work on an itouch G3. You mean an iPod touch G3, yes? What version of iOS do you have installed on your iPod touch? This may be related to incorrect serving of SVG content (if you are using apache) and so you may need to update your .htaccess file in apache per the Wallaby technical tips page.

I used to be able to but now time machine will not recognize my hard drive to select as a backup when plugged into my airport extreme. I'm not sure what happened or changed. Internal Hard Drive Backup + External Hard Drive Backup

Hi everyone and thanks for your attention.
My question is about Backup for two different hard disk.
I've got an internal 500 gb hard disk and a 4 tb external hard disk and my computer is a Macbook pro 15 Unibody 10.6.8.
I need daily (or better hourly) back up for the internal and the external. On the internal I've got system and applications, on the external my work project folders.
My solution at the moment are two other hard disk raid mounted as backup drives. They form together 5tb back up space. I'm using time machine, so it manage my internal 500 gb disk and my external 4tb disk together.
Today I had to recover my system from Time Machine. The app is recovering the documents, but I have a doubt. Before starting recovering I had to choose the hard drive where to recover the system. I had to decide between the internal and the external, and I've chosen the internal, because the OS was installed there.
Will Time Machine put the files, that were on the internal drive, in the internal drive and the ones that were on the external on the external?
My complete back up is 2.4 tb so my 500 gb won't surely be enough.
Moreover. I'm assuming that is so much better to divide the back up. One backup system for the internal and one for the external. It seems to me that my version of Time Machine (10.6.8) does not allow to assign different back up drive for different is use drive. Eg. an external drive to use for the internal drive and another external drive for the external drive in use.
What about next Time Machine versions?
Or maybe would be better to use Time Machine for the internal drive with an external drive as back up, and the use an another application such as Carbon Copy Cloner to back up the external drive to another different external drive.
To be more clear, the solution I'd like to have is:
Internal Drive (500 gb) > time machine > External Drive (1tb)
External Drive (4tb) > Carbon Copy Cloner > External Drive (5tb)

"Can't read or write to disk" error message

hi...
got my husband a 16g nano and i'm trying to sync his songs. i have the newest version of itunes installed. it put almost half of the songs on the nano and all of a sudden itunes has an error that says something about "can't write to nano. disk is not readable or writeable." i can view the nano contents, but i can't add to it and it will not let me sync it anymore.
does anyone have any suggestions? thanks!

i looked at the tips page you suggested and i tried it again on my new laptop and it still won't work. i'm going to try to restore it and then put it on the laptop again, hopefully that will work.
the odd thing is it will start to sync and it comes up with the error message about half way through syncing (half the songs do make it to the ipod.) why can't it sync the whole way?? i'm perplexed.

Can't print from Desktop

I bought an HP ENVY 7645 and can print from all my devices (phones, tablets) but it does not print from the desktop. When I try to activate it from the desktop, the message is "Adding printer to your HP Connected Account failed".
Please help.
