TM volume corrupted after 10.6.4 update

I did update my AirBook to 10.6.4. After rebooting fsck worked for a long time with 90 % CPU. Several hours later I had to stop it. Since this moment my TimeMachine Volume is "locked" (so probably fsck did check the TM volume before). The sparsebundle doesn't show the little lock in its icon. In the Get info window it doesn't appear locked. Disk Util says the Volume is OK. DiskWarrior cannot rebuild because the volume is "locked". "chflags nouchg" didn't help.
I'd like to preserve my TM Backups. Any idea how to unlock this sparsebundle volume?

Unless there is a very good reason to continue the current backup I would reformat the backup volume and start a fresh backup. Something has gone wrong with the SparseBundle or the drive hosting your Time Machine backup. A reformat is the most reliable way to get rid of whatever might be causing the underlying issue.
That said you could try "grafting" the old backup into a new sparse bundle.
Remove the broken sparse bundle from the backup volume.
Start a new backup and allow to complete.
Now mount both the old sparse bundle and the newly created sparse bundle.
Delete the contents of the new sparse bundle.
Copy and paste the contents of the old bundle into the new bundle.
Try and backup again.

Internet Accounts Preference pane corrupted after 10.9.5 update

After loading the 10.9.5 update I noticed that my Internet Accounts preferences pane in System Preferences is corrupted. The pane shows mostly blank, but will show graphic corruption if I move the window around. It has the list of accounts even though you cannot see them. If I click on the first account location my iCloud account shows up on the right. The list under it doesn't show, but it is also present. I have gone through and trashed a few plist files that look related. I tried most of the items related to problems in this area, but I have been unable to figure out what is causing this anomaly. The only other problem I have that is related is that if I try to create a new Mail account, the account type picker has the last item with a radio button, but no graphic. If I select it, it shows an example AOL address, but the rest of the text is not correct.
This is the add account pane in mail. I assume that last one is supposed to be AOL.
This is the pane that shows up when selecting the blank entry. It sort of looks like a foreign language without the right font.
I am going to try re-loading the combo pack upgrade for Mavericks to see if that can correct this. Any ideas are appreciated. Did 10.9.5 pull out the AOL option and just not do it right on my system?
Just found a related issue. Add Account in Contacts (need to add a directory account) doesn't do anything. I had a directory account during the upgrade, but removed all accounts and re-added all back except that one since I cannot.

I did the Safe Boot again and had the problem. I still have the problem after rebooting into normal mode. Looks like there is an uncaught exception when I select to add an account in the address book. There are similar uncaught exceptions when I got into the internet accounts preference pane as well.

External drive corruption after 10.8.5 update

Hi,
After the upgrade to 10.8.5. my Mini server at home, which had been running for months on end without a hitch prior to that, started having big problems.
I have a late 2012 Mini, with a Sharkoon 5 disk cabinet hooked up through USB3.0. The cabinet is filled with (top to bottom) 2 * 1 TB drives, 1 * 300GBdrive and 2 * 2 TB drive.
A few days after the update to 10.8.5 disk started disconnecting. Or rather, they would report normal sats in 'df' but they wouldn't show any files, neither in Finder nor with 'ls'. Disks 1, 3 and 4 looked mounted (albeit empty), but 2 and 5 were not. I noticed very high (red LED) activity on disk 2, disk 2 showed up corrupt in DiskUtility, so I took that one out. Now the rest came back, but disk 5 was corrupted and unusable. I reformatted, put disk 2 back and reformatted, restored and on I went.
Couple of days later: same thing. When the corruption occurs, after some time all other disks, although still there, become unusable as well. In the end you cannot even login to the iMacs that are using this server for OpenDirectory etc.
After the second time I suspected hardware failure on disk 2 and removed it from the cabinet. Formatted disk 5, restored, etc. But a few day later it happened all over again, this time with disk 5 seeming to be the culprit. I took that one out as well now, and I have to wait if the rest stays stable now.
In other words, it seems like the second of each set of identical disks is causing problems.
So my questions:
1) Has anyaone else seen anything similar?
2) Would changing out the disks, so that the identical sets are not adjacent, possibly fix this?
3) Would the latest fix release of 10.8.5 possibly fix this?
4) If all else fails, is there a way back to 10.8.4?
Any (other) ideas?

Try running the combo update. It contains the latest update and will sometimes fix some other problems.
10.8.5 Combo Update

Component store corrupt after w8.1 spring update

hi,
I have applied windows 8.1 pro spring update without problems. attempted to do cleanup with
dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup
the system comes up with messages showing component store is corrupt , error : 14098.     I run
dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth               which answers component store is repairable. so I run
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth          and after 40% complete the result is
    'either the repair source cannot be found or the component store cannot be repaired' error: 0x800f081f . the log at
      \windows\logs\dism\dism.log   shows some text written is what I think is Japanese alphabet.
I do a system image restore disk reverting windows to its state in march, check the component store and it is healthy.
  I do the w8.1 pro spring update again.
   this puts the component store into the situation above.
  I can do a clean intstall when w8.1 pro iso is available. any ideas?

This error code can occur when an alternative installation source is specified and one of the following conditions is true:
The location that is specified by the path does not contain the files that are required to install the feature.
The user who tries to install the feature does not have at least READ access to the location and to the files.
The set of installation files is corrupted, incomplete, or invalid for the version of Windows that you are running.
I suggest that you upload the dism.log so that we can help you analyze them.

Speaker Volume changed after 10.4.10 Update

Hi.
I updated to 10.4.10 recently and since then my speaker volume has gone quieter. i can barely hear something for example when i have 3 bars on the built-in onscreen volume meter.
I know that the speakers in my powerbook were better than those in my macbook pro, but this volume thing makes me crazy.
Anyone any ideas?

It takes some time but here's how..
Backup your User folder and all other data you want backed up/saved.
Boot from the OSX dvd, erase the drive and re-install a fresh system (probably 10.4.7 or 10.4.8 that came on ur dvd) after installing run all software updates but ignore the 10.4.10 one.
After software update tells you all that remains is the 10.4.10 update go to the apple downloads p-age and download the 10.4.9 (not combo) updater and run it.
Ur now back on 10.4.9, restore your backups and everything should be back to normal.
Use disk utility to verify/repair permissions before and after updates.
It takes a bit of work but downgrading was well worth the effort for me.

ATI HD 3870 and gaming video corruption after 10.5.6 update

I have an early 2006 MacPro 8 core in which I replaced the factory ATI X1900 graphics card with the highly recommended ATI HD 3870 card. The upgrade went smoothly and now I can play Call of Duty 2 for Mac on my 1920 x 1200 display at the highest quality of detail and shading with no problems.
After upgrading my OSX to 10.5.6, I started having random video corruption while playing COD2. It appears as random magenta, cyan or green flashes with a screen-like texture in various parts of the display. It seems totally random. After speaking with ATI tech support and the great guys at Other World Computing where I bought the card, the determination was that the card was the problem. I sent it into ATI for a warranty repair or replacement. While waiting, I borrowed the same card from a friend and installed it. The same problem occurred.
I think the issue now tracks back to the 10.5.6 upgrade which according to Apple provided updates to the video drivers for ATI cards. Now I don't know how to go back to the previous drivers. I checked ATI's web site and there are no drivers available for download for Leopard.
Any suggestions?

Backup - always - before you apply updates. Start using SuperDuper.
Wait for 10.5.7.
The first 8-core was 3GHz and came in March 2007. But you had the X1900 so that says it is pre-2008 (most that say "early 200x" mean Early 2008 Mac Pro).
Drivers are part of OS X bundle, there is no discreet driver package.
If you don't have a backup, make one, and then you are faced with fresh install or archive and install, and you may need 10.5.2 DVD (with the 8800 you can't boot from a system w/o getting a panic if it is lower than 10.5.2).

Boot Camp Corrupted after 10.7.1 update

Win7 was running fine before I updated my 2011 mini from 10.7 to 10.7.1... now Lion doesn't even see the Boot Camp Partition as a bootable drive. So, it must be corrupted. Do I have to reinstall Windows for the 3rd time? Any solutions?

I figured it out! It was NOT the 10.7.1 update that killed Boot Camp! You know that one little thing you did and forgot about.... I loaded Paragon NTFS for Mac. Big Mistake. I went into System Prefs and disabled it. VOILA, Boot Camp majically shows up as a boot drive again. And Paragon says its Lion compatible, HA!

I have also included most of the following information in response to a post, on the same subject, for T series machines.
I have 2 machines that are also affected by this problem, an R61 (8932-CTO XP-Pro-SP3 32-bit) and an R500 (2714-CTO XP-Pro-SP3 32-bit).
System update recently presented me with Hotkeys version 3.87.0000 on both of these machines, and I let System Update update the drivers in the vain hope that Lenovo had fixed this problem that has been previously reported as affecting many other series and models.
No such luck.
The only difference that I would like to report is that, for me, the last version of the Hotkey Features Integration package that displays the volume bar on my Windows XP machines is: 3.84.5000. I have all versions of the Hotkeys drivers saved on my machine and was therefore able to try them all out to verify which one was the last one that worked for me.
On both of the above mentioned systems, the version of Access Connections that is running is version 5.97.
On the R61, the version of Power Manager that is running is version 5.20.
On the R500, the version of Power Manager that is running is version 5.13. (System Update does not show version 5.20 as an available update on this machine.)
It would be really nice if Lenovo could finally fix this problem.

Finder corrupted after 10.6.8 update

Updated to 10.6.8 and had problems with rolling beach ball and dock not loading at all. Discovvfered incompatibility with having Parallels in the dock and took it out. But in the process of discovery and several hard boots into and out of safe mode, the Finder changed permanently so that the sidebar no longer shoes devices and places etc.. I trashed the Finder .plist file and rebooted, to no avail. even tried replacing the .plist file with a backed up file from before the change, to no avail.
How do I get a functional Finder back?

First I'd download the Parallels update that fixes the problem. (If Parallels is still installed).
Then if the issue persists, trash ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
Logoff and Login (or restart the finder). You will probably need to set the options again in Finder > Preferences > Sidebar.

Wake from sleep volume extremely loud after 10.9.4 update

Every time I wake from sleep since the 10.9.4 update, my Mac Pro's volume to my speakers (via headphone jack) seems to be insanely loud despite system prefs showing the volume level at middle. Normally I like to keep my speaker's volume high and turn the system volume down, but it seems like the OSX is ignoring the system volume setting after waking up. It reverts to proper behavior when I hit volume up or down on the keyboard. Anyone notice this?

Reset the NVRAM.
NVRAM reset:
Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.
After resetting NVRAM or PRAM, you may need to reconfigure your settings for speaker volume, screen resolution, startup disk selection, and time zone information. If issues persist, your Mac's logic board battery (not a portable Mac's rechargeable battery) may need to be replaced. The logic board battery helps retain NVRAM/PRAM settings when your computer is shut down. You can take your Mac to a Mac Genius or Apple Authorized Service Provider to replace the battery on the logic board.

There's hardware and software.
Your drive could physically be in good condition but something has caused the file structure to be messed up (it just happens sometimes). The directory that keep track of files is corrupt. Disk Utility can help determine if that is the issue. In some cases it can repair the problem but it cannot do it to a drive that is being used to boot the system while you are doing that. You have to boot from another drive. Some things DU cannot repair and you need to try a stronger utility such as Diskwarrior.
A failing hard drive (one with mechanical issues) can be a cause of file structure issues but this is by no means always the case. Apart from looking at the SMART diagnosis feature of Disk Utility (and smart isn't totally reliable) there often isn't a way to tell if a drive is failing until it suddenly happens, which is why you need to maintain backups.
In your situation it does sound serious and not just minor directory corruption. You can try erasing (formatting) the drive, You may need to do this if it is really corrupt, in which case there could be underlying physical issues. I use old technology but if you have the patience you can try erasing the drive with the security option of writing zeros once (don't do more unless you are going on a 3 week vacation). This makes the drive not simply assume everything is okay by forcing it try every part of the drive by writing data. If something is gong wrong you may find it marks a lot of bad sectors, or flat out refuses to format. Then you know you need a new drive.

Boot Camp partition corrupted after OS X Yosemite Recovery Update

As the written in the title, after installing the Recovery update i can no longer boot to Windows, the drive doesn't appear on either StartUp disk or on boot when holding the option key. Is there anyway to recover it? don't have a backup of it so my options are either fix it if possible or start from scratch.

I followed the Steps in this thread(Bootcamp partition missing after yosemite installation). I dont see my Windows parition at startup-disk.
When i hold alt at the boot process, i can select and boot windows but then a weird error windows opens, it tries to repair the problem automatically, fails and wants to restart the computer...
What can i do?

Why Is My Updated iWeb Site Corrupted After Updating?

I just updated my iWeb site last night, and yet for some reason the 1st/welcome page is showing up as corrupted. The rest of my site looks fine, but after this most recent update the first page of my site looks awful. It looks bad in Safari - it looks worse in Firefox.
I've never had this before. Why is this, and how can I fix it? Help!

My volume has stopped working completely after the iOS 8 update

My sound has completely stopped working after the ios 8 update yesterday.please help

I just now spoke with Apple support as I had a similar issue, where the volume on some apps and games did not work, and what I was told helped me out greatly.
what I was told to do is hold down the power and the home screen button at the same time for about three or four seconds until the device shuts down and you should see it restarting. If the device does not restart on its own hit the power button and it should restart and then you should have no problem at all everything should be as it should be.

Why is my volume not working when I either a. Restart my phone, or b. when it gets put on the charger? This all happened after the ios 6 update and I am so FREAKING annoyed that my volume won't work!

This has been going on now since the update began.
The phone does this weather i slide the volume button to silent then back, I use the volume buttons and get that picture you see above.I restart volume off then back on. I adjust settings turning everything off include adjust volume with buttons, then back on.I check the do not disturb under settings.
I'm not an idiot, I have messed with everything, restarted, tried it on and off the charger.
Sometimes it just has no sound, like the phone doesn't realize there even is a volume as you can see in the above pic, there is no gage that even lets you mess with the volume because it's not muted, it's just not there. Then randomly at some point it comes back.
This all started after the ios 6 update, and I was hoping it would get fixed. I miss the ios5 and have been considering moving over to android with the new Samsung galaxy 3....because right now apple is not beig very technical friendly at all.
