TMG Client and Broadcast

Hello colleagues
I have mini-question. I have TMG server and I have TMG clients on user PC's.
When my TMG server is down and I'am reboot it, I had seen that in network I have too many broadcast traffic. When TMG server is loaded broadcast traffic is down.
How TMG clients use a broadcast? or TMG clients not use broadcast?
Thanks.

Hi,
Glad to hear that. Thank you for your sharing.
Best Regards,
Joyce

  • Cisco VPN Client and Quick VPN interaction?

I have both a Cisco VPN client for connecting to my company LAN and a QuickVPN client for connecting to my home LAN installed on my W2K laptop.  Both start and run correctly, and both connect just as they should.  My home LAN uses a WRV54G router to provide VPN connection.  I can alternate back and forth between the two clients and connect to each LAN with no obvious issues, but not at the same time, of course.
Here's the question.  When I connect to the home LAN, I can log on with no problem and I can remotely administer the WRV54G with no problem.  I can ping all of the wired and wireless W2K computers on my home LAN with no problem.  However, I cannot "see", browse or map any of the shared resources on my home LAN.  I have created user accounts on the home LAN computers for my laptop and router logins and I have given these accounts permissions to my shared resources, but I still cannot get to them.  Linksys tech support has been absolutely no help whatsoever, even after repeated attempts.
While trying to troubleshoot this myself, I've noticed that when the Cisco VPN client is running and I'm connected to my company LAN, the IP address and subnet of my computer is changed to ones assigned by the DHCP server at my company.  This seems to happen because the Cisco client activates the "Local Area Connection Number 2" on my laptop and assigns IP addresses using it.  However, when I'm using the QuickVPN client to connect to my home, the IP address and subnet of my laptop continues to be those assigned by whatever local network I'm connected to (e.g. hotel, etc).
I'm wondering if the QuickVPN is supposed to be assigning an IP address and subnet to my laptop from the WRV54G's DHCP server when I connect to my home LAN.  If so, could the Cisco VPN client installed on my laptop be preventing that from happening?
Sorry for the long post, but I'm at my wit's end on this one and Linksys is just no help at all.

    1. The Cisco VPN client creates a virtual interface on your computer. This allows you to route traffic to the tunnel. The QuickVPN client is simpler. It only encrypts the traffic to the other end. It does not use a virtual interface. That's why you don't have another IP address when connected with QuickVPN. QuickVPN only encrypts IP packets with IPSec from your computer to 192.168.1.* (or whatever you may use on your WRV LAN) and sends them to the WRV's public IP address.
    2. Microsoft Windows file sharing and LAN network browsing depends on network broadcasts. Those only work inside a LAN. If you connect from the outside to a LAN, broadcasts won't go through the VPN tunnel. This means you cannot use standard name windows workgroup name resolution to access shares. Those are propagated with broadcasts which will never go through the VPN tunnel. This means you are not able to use workgroup browsing. All you can to do access your shares is to use the IP address of the other computer.
    In short:
    \\mycomputer\share won't work
    \\192.168.1.50\share works
(assuming the general sharing setup is O.K., i.e. you can use sharing correctly inside your LAN).
Of course, firewalls on the server end may cause problems. Access comes in from a public IP address. This may be blocked. Check the firewall logs on the server to find out if this is the case or not.
Moreover, establishing the VPN connection from a private LAN to a private LAN may not work. This is due to the double network address translation which breaks IPSec and thus the connection. If the hotel uses private IP addresses, this may be the case. But in that case you won't get ping responses from your WRV LAN.
What definitively won't work is in case when the hotel uses the same IP address subnet as you. If the hotel uses 192.168.1.* addresses and your WRV uses 192.168.1.* addresses you cannot connect. QuickVPN does only IPSec tunneling. There is no address translation in QuickVPN. Therefore connecting the identical private IP address subnet through QuickVPN will never work because all addresses exists twice, once on either side.

  • ACL restriction of multicast and broadcast on SRW2016

    Hello all,
I seem to be having difficulty setting up an ACL that restricts multicast and broadcast packets to a specified port on the SRW2016.
In brief, I have one (physical) port that I need to prevent any broadcast or multicast packets from being sent to.  I need to allow clients which are on that port to send broadcast, however.  My take on this was to create an ACL with one rule of the type:
    Type: Deny
    Protocol: Any
    Source IP: 10.0.0.0/255.255.255.255
    Destination IP: 224.0.0.0/0.255.255.255
Another type I tried was a 2-rule ACL to explicitly allow only a valid sender and deny all:
    Type: Allow
    Protocol: UDP
    Dest Port: 1234
    Source IP: 10.1.0.100/0.0.0.0
    Dest IP: 10.1.0.101/0.0.0.0
    Type: Deny
    Protocol: All
I have tried various permutations these types of ACL (changing ordering, etc) but everything I have tried so far has allowed the multicast packets through unless I block it at the sending port (which obviously blocks it from all ports).
Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.  Is what I'm trying to do even possible in the SRW2016?
    Thanks,
    Mike

Just to make sure I was creating/applying the ACLs correctly, I did a simple test with a very basic rule: I just set type to deny (basically a deny all rule).  I applied this rule to one port of the switch and verified that it was working by attempting to access the switch's web configuration interface (which correctly was inaccessable).  However, the multicast packets were still being delivered (verified via both an Ethernet dump and visual inspection of the switch's LED).
Based on the above information, I feel it's fairly safe to say that Multicast is not filtered correctly via ACLs on the SRW2016.  Apparently Multicast packets take a different logical path than "normal" packets.  Since I don't expect an immediate firmware patch, I suspect that I need to see if I can get a router in addition or as a replacement for the switch.
Edit: I found a method that appears to restrict the multicast packets via the "Bridge Multicast" interface (basically created a rule for the MAC related to my multicast address, set to Forbidden on one port, but this is not a generic solution for all multicast and I don't seem to be able to have more than 1 MAC address in the list...), but broadcast still gets through, regardless of the ACL I set up for the port.
I'm beginning to wonder if my understanding of ACLs is flawed - does anyone know if they're applied to incoming packets for a port, outgoing packets for a port or both?  My assumption was both, but if the rule were only applied to incoming packets, it would explain the behavior I'm observing.

  • TMG / WPAD and protocol relative URLs

We are using a TMG Cluster (TMG2010 SP3) as a proxy.
We use wpad auto discover for our clients and that is working fine except that protocol relative urls are not sent to the proxy but use the direct route.
More and more websites are using a protocol-relative url (eg: script src=//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.9.1/jquery.min.js ) when we use the "automatically detect settings" option in IE these URL's aren't redirected to the proxyservers.
And because our clients do not have direct internet access the page doesn't load the script and isn't displayed correctly.
I probably have to alter the wpad.dat file but I'm stuck in how to do so.

    Hi,
Thank you for your post here.
How did you judge that the packets have been directly routed to gateway?
Could you please configure your proxy to manually point your web proxy server address? Please test it to see if traffic is still routed directly.
Network Monitor 3.4 is a very useful tool to help us capture the network packets. We need to check if the request you send is packaged in HTTP or HTTPs since just HTTP or HTTPs can be proxy direct to proxy server.

  • Adobe Creative Cloud - How To Share Files With Clients and Colleagues | Creative Suite Podcast: Designers | Adobe TV

In this episode of the Adobe Creative Suite Podcast, Terry White shows how to share Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign Files with clients and colleagues and all they'll need is a browser to comment and see your Photoshop Layers.
    http://adobe.ly/10ZjpE4

    Terry,
I guess I miss something. How can I share a folder of photos? When I return from a shoot, I select 20 of the pictures and need to share them with my client to pick up the favorites. Am I supposed to copy and past an URL for each image separately?
Sometimes I also work with a colleague, I need to share my favorites with him. Same issue.
We have tried Adobe Cloud, and then went for Dropbox. There we can share a folder and he can put even his pictures in it as well. That's what I call collaboration. And it is free (unlike Adobe Cloud). If you have some word in Adobe, please tell them to either drop it and make a deal with services like Dropbox, or make it properly.
    Thanks.

  • What is the diffrence between multicasting and broadcasting?

    hi friends
What is the diffrence between multicasting and broadcasting?
i'm bit confused in multicasting and broadcasting.

Broadcasts go everywhere within a range determined by the sender.
Broadcasting is deprecated and unliikely to go beyond the nearest router.
Multicasts go everywhere where receivers have declared they are present.
Multicast can be implemented beyond routers in a WAN which you control but ISP routers generally don't support it.

  • Async tcp client and server. How can I determine that the client or the server is no longer available?

Hello. I would like to write async tcp client and server. I wrote this code but a have a problem, when I call the disconnect method on client or stop method on server. I can't identify that the client or the server is no longer connected.

    Hi,
Have you debug these two applications? Does it go into the catch exception block when you close the client or the server?
According to my test, it will throw an exception when the client or the server is closed, just log the exception message in the catch block and then you'll get it:
    private async void Process()
    try
    while (true)
    var data = await this.Receive();
    this.NewMessage.Invoke(Encoding.ASCII.GetString(data));
    catch (Exception exception)
    Console.WriteLine(exception.Message);
Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing   connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.
By the way, I don't know what the SafeInvoke method is, it may be an extension method, right? I used Invoke instead to test it.

Steps to Prepare and Sequence the Application:
Phase 1:  Prepare vSphere install to be used in your sequence (to be performed prior to sequencing)
Clear %TEMP% directory on machine you are using to prepare the install
Create a folder that will be referred to as "vSphereInstDir"
that install files are copied to
Download the vSphere 5.5 client from your vSphere management server
Run the installer for the vSphere Client
Once at the Language Selection portion of the installer,
using windows explorer browse to the %temp% directory and copy the files that were just created when the vSphere installer extracted to a directory (name it vSphereInstDir)
    Kill the installer
Find VMware-viclient.exe in the files you just copied
    and run it
Once at the "Welcome to the installation
wizard" stage of the installer, using windows explorer browse to the %temp% directory and copy the files that were just created into the vSphereInstDir
    Kill the installer
Find the VMware vSphere Client 5.5.msi in the vSphereInstDir,
in the second set of files you copied over
Using Orca, open the VMware vSphere Client 5.5.msi
Drop the following rows from the msi (some of the rows may have additional text at the end of the names) (InstallExecuteSequence/VM_InstallHcmon,
    InstallExecuteSequence/VM_InstallHcmon_SetData,
    InstallExecuteSequence/VM_InstallUSB,
    InstallExecuteSequence/VM_InstallUSB_SetData,
    InstallExecuteSequence/VM_InstallUSBArbritrator,
    InstallExecuteSequence/VM_InstallUSBArbritratorSetData,
    InstallExecuteSequence/VM_StartUSBArbSvc)
Save the VMware vSphere 5.5.msi in place
Copy the vSphereInstDir to a network location that
can be used during sequencing on your Sequencer
Phase 2:  Sequence the vSphere Client
Pre-requisites:  All of the latest available VC++ redist (x64 and x86) are installed on the Sequencer VM
Copy vSphereInstDir to your temporary install directory on your Sequencer (mine is C:\temp)
    Start up the Sequencer
Click Create a New Virtual Application Package
Click Next with Create Package (default) selected
Click Next on the Prepare Computer screen, taking
    note of any findings
Click Next with Standard Application (default) selected
Choose Perform a custom installation, then click Next
Input the Virtual Application name (vSphere Client
    5.5 for example)
Enter the Primary Virtual Application Directory (C:\vSphere55
    for example) and click Next
Using Windows Explorer find the Visual J# install (vjredist64.exe) in the vSphereInstDir you copied over.  Install using defaults
Using Windows Explorer, find and install the vSphere client using the VMware vSphere Client 5.0.msi located in the vSphereInstDir you copied over.
Change the installation directory to use the Primary Virtual Application Directory you configured above (C:\vSphere55 for example).  Install using
    defaults
While the sequencer is still monitoring changes connect to the 4.1 environment to get the files needed.  To do this, launch the vSphere client and connect
to your 4.1 environment.  When prompted, choose RUN to install the files needed for the 4.1 environment.
While the sequencer is still monitoring changes connect to the 5.0 environment to get the files needed.  To do this, launch the vSphere client and
connect to your 5.0 environment.  When prompted, choose RUN to install the files needed for the 5.0 environment.
With the sequencer still monitoring changes, after the additional environments have been installed, delete all of the language folders from the install locations
that are not required.  You will find that there are language folders in each of the different modules that are installed.  Make sure look in every folder.  This will free up approximately 300mb from the package.
When done, check the box to finish the sequence and continue cleaning up the sequenced application.
    Known Issues/Limitations:

  • I cannot route to remote subnets from cisco vpn client and pptp client

    Hi guys,
I've a big problem, I configured a 877 cisco router as a cisco vpn server (the customer use it to connect to his network from pc) and a pptp vpn server (he use it to connet to the network from a smartphone).
In this router I created 2 vlan, one for wired network (192.168.10.0/24) and the second one (10.0.0.0/24) for wireless clients and I use fastethernet 3 port to connect these to the router.
this is the issue, when the customer try to connect to a wireless network from both of vpn clients he cannot do this, but if he try to connect to a wired network client all working fine.
following the addresses taken from the router.
    - encrypted vpn client -
    ip address. 192.168.10.20
    netmask 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway. none (blank)
    - pptp vpn client -
    ip address. 192.168.10.21
    netmask. 255.255.255.255
    Default Gateway. 192.168.10.21
Is possible that I cannot reach the remote subnet because the clients doesn't receive a gateway (in the first case) or receive the wrong subnet/gateway (in the second one)..?
There is anyone can help me..?
    Thank you very much.
    Many Kisses and Kindly Regards..
    Ilaria

The default gateway on your PC is not the problem, it will always show as the same IP address (this is no different when you dial up to an ISP, your DG will again be set to your negotiated IP address).
The issue will be routing within the campus network and more importantly on the PIX itself. The campus network needs a route to the VPN pool of addresses that eventually points back to the PIX.
The issue here is that the PIX will have a default gateway pointing back out towards your laptop. When you establish a VPN and try and go to an Internet address, the PIX is going to route this packet according to its routing table and send it back out the interface it came in on. The PIX won't do this, and the packet will be dropped. Unless you can set the PIX's routing table to forward Internet packets to the campus network, there's no way around this. Of course if you do that then you'll break connectivity thru the PIX for all the internal users.
The only way to do this is to configure split tunnelling on the PIX, so that packets destined for the Internet are sent directly from your laptop in the clear just like normal, and any packet destined for the campus network is encrypted and sent over the tunnel.
Here's the format of the command:

  • How to configure full tunnel with VPN client and router?

I know the concept of split tunnel....Is it possibe to configure vpn client and router full tunnel or instead of router ASA? I know filter options in concentrators is teher options in ISR routers or ASA?

I think it is possible. Following links may help you

Since update to Maverics I am experiencing VPN dropouts with native VPN client and Cisco IPSec
I am connecting via a WIFI router to a remote VPN server
The conenction is good for a while but eventually it drops out.
I had Zero issues in mountain lion and only have issues since the update to 10.9
I had similar issues in teh past with an unrelaibel wifi router but i am using a Verizon Fios router and it has worked impecably until mavericks
    My thoughts are:
1 -issue with mavericks  ( maybe the app sleep funciton affecting eithe VPN or WIFI daemons)
2- Issue with  cisco router compaitibility or timing with Cisco IPSEC
3- Issue with WIFI itself on mavericks - some sort of WIFI software bug
    Any thousuggestions?

  • Cisco ASA 5505, Cisco VPN Client and Novell Netware

    Hi,
Our ISP have installed Cisco ASA 5505 firewall. We are trying to connect to our Novell 5.1 server using VPN client.
I installed VPN client on a laptop that is using wireless connection. I connect using wireless signal from near by hotel and I am able to connect to my firewall usinging vpn client and also able to login in using Novell client for XP.
When I use same vpn client and Novell client at home that is not using wireless connection, but DSL connection amd not able to login or find the tree.
The only difference in two machine is laptop using wireless connection and my home machine is using wired connection using DSL.

If your remote end of the services in question support IPsec IKEv1 as the VPN type then, yes - the 5505 can be a client for that service. At that point it looks like a regular LAN-LAN VPN which is documented in many Cisco and 3rd party how-to documents.

Ok with that being said will the MBA 11.6 1.4ghz have the guts to make it run mostly internet based programs over the VPN connection?
I think if you are running apps over the Internet the bottleneck will be the Internet and your VPN bandwidth. Your computer can certainly execute faster than Internet communications.
Besides, Internet or remote applications run on the remote server. All your local computer does is local processing of the data if necessary.

  • Problem with Cisco VPN client and HP elitebook 2530p windows 7 64-bit

    Hi there
I have a HP Elitebook 2530p which i upgraded to windows 7 64-bit. I installed the Cisco VPN client application (ver. 5.0.07.0290 and also 64-bit) and the HP connection manager to connect to the internet through a modem Qualcomm gobi 1000 (that is inside the laptop). When I connect to the VPN, it connects (I write the username and password) but there is no traffic inside de virtual adapter for my servers. When I connect to the internet through wire or wireless internet, I connect de VPN client and there is no problem to establish communication to my servers.
I tried everything, also change the driver and an earlier version of the HP connection manager application. I also talked to HP and they told me that there was a report with this kind of problem and it was delivered to Cisco. I don’t know where is the problem.
    Could anyone help me?
    Thanks to all.

You can try to update Deterministic Network Enhancer to the below listed release which supports
    WWAN Drivers.
    http://www.citrix.com/lang/English/lp/lp_1680845.asp.
DNE now supports WWAN devices in Win7.  Before downloading the latest version of DNEUpdate from the links below,  be sure you have the latest
drivers for your network adapters by downloading them from the vendors’ websites.
    For 64-bit: ftp://files.citrix.com/dneupdate64.msi
    Hope that helps.
