Tn3270 Emulator
We have implemented the Tn3270 Emulation portlet. Everything went smoothly up until the time we attempted to connect to the IBM server. Evidently, it runs on port 992. The portlet supports the default port of 23 but there is nothing in the documentation to tell how to over-ride the default and attempt to connect to the SSL port.
I know this is not supported directly by Oracle. I just thought someone that had been experimenting with the integration portlets had come across a work-around.
Thanks.
Hi Imran,
sorry for not responding before, I am investigating this issue currently. There is one more thing, i have an contribution in the knowledge exchange, it is a portalized telnet applet. Could you please try it in the mean time. I have tried using it against a 3270 instance locally, and it works fine. If you are still having issues connecting to the server, then i guess the problem is because of the way you are connecting and i will conduct some more investigation into that.
You can find the application by accessing knowledge exchange and then searching for the contributions by [email protected] and download the java telnet portlet.
in the mean time i am investigating the issue with TN3270 portlet.
thanks,
harsha

Cannot get tn3270 emulator to work
I am trying to get the tn3270 emulator to work as a portlet. The pdk was installed with the portal as I am using release 2. After deploying the tn3270.ear file, I test the provider and it appears to be successful. I then register the portlet, and try to access it through a page and I get the following error:
load: class oracle.portal.integration.tn3270.Tn3270Applet not found. Please help,
Thanks,Hi Jon,
Do you supply the Tn3270 hostname? I suspect you are not doing so. Basically you can provide the value for your Tn3270 host either
1. In the provider.xml file something like shown below in bold.
<appletDescriptor class="oracle.portal.integration.tn3270.Tn3270AppletDescriptor">
<nameKey>AppletDescriptorNameKey</nameKey>
<descriptionKey>AppletDescriptorDescriptionKey</descriptionKey>
<code>oracle.portal.integration.tn3270.Tn3270Applet</code>
<codebase>/htdocs/jars</codebase>
<archive>intshare.jar, tn3270.jar, appletviewer.jar</archive>
<usePlugin>false</usePlugin>
<width>650</width>
<height>400</height>
<paramDescriptor class="oracle.portal.provider.v2.sample.ParamDescriptor">
<name>hostname</name>
<value>your.tn3270.hostname</value>
</paramDescriptor>
</appletDescriptor>
OR
2. On the Customize screen. You can click on the Customize button, and enter the value for your Tn3270 hostname.
Hope this helps!
Thanks

LMS 3.2 on Solaris 10 - Cannot tftp vlan.dat to server
Hi All,
I've read several posts and could not find one that would resolve my issue.
I get the partially successful on several switches. I understand that is because of LMS not being able to tftp vlan.dat back to server.
I tried it directly on a switch and the transfer only works if the filename is already created in the tftp directory. Is there a way to change that?
Thanks
Jose RibeiroHi Joseph,
The ciscoworks server has full access to the switch as per below. Neither access nor credentials seem to be the issue here.
I've read a few posts where it was stated the need to create a 'dummy' vlan.dat file so that the device would not show as partially successful on the RME job. Is this the case here? If so this is a very strange solution.
Thanks,
Jose

How to identify DRAM and Flash memory of a individual member from a switch stack
I want to check DRAM and Flash of each member in a stack . How can I verify the same .
ThanksHI Tushar,
To determine the amount of Flash and DRAM, issue the show version command. Refer to the bold text in the output below. DRAM is divided logically, combining the two numbers to determine total DRAM. In this case, it is 45056K/4096K bytes (45056kB + 4096kB = 49152kB), which is equal to 48MB.

After installing new image, why router keeps 'decompressing'?
I found similar posts but they say this could be due to oversized images. It doesn't seem to be my case. My router memory count below shows I have 64D,16F as shown on the bottom of the pasted info below, isn't that correct ?
I downloaded an image from cisco.com for my C2610. I loaded the image onto the router via rommon/TFTP.
Then I noticed that every time I power cycle the C2610, I get the message "self decompressing....".
I made sure that the respective image I am trying to load, the 'c2600-j1s3-mz.123-16.bin' is supported by 64D and 16F routers. Note that is originally an image for 2610XM routers, however, before I downloaded an image for C2610 version 12.3 which also presented same problem.
Note that router was functional before I did this image download exercise.
Please advise what could be wrong and how I can get rid of this annoying 'decompressing' messages every time I start up router.

you can unzip the image using gzip or any other ZIP program (on a MS PC rename it to *.zip). It contains the "real" binary, which is about 2-3 times larger. Never tried to boot directly, but in principle this should also work. Just be aware, that the unzipped IOS might not fit into flash anymore.
Hope this helps! Please rate all posts.

Hi,
I just want to know is Scripted Host Adapter In IDM is supported for AS400 Machine.
As i know AS400 is using TN5250 emulation but Scriped Host Adapter support TN3270 emulation.
If any body have any idea about it will be great help.
Thanx
ShantHi,
could anyone provide me sample resource action files for modify and delete action for a scripted host adapter which is used to connect an mainframe resource?

7600 as Backbone router for MPLS core
I have 7600's and 7500's in my backbone and 7200's on the edge. My question is that when I look at the feature navigator the 7600 with Sup 720 is missing a lot of basic features required to be a core router of an MPLS Backbone. Features like Traffic engineering fast reroute, MPLS enabled Netflow are missing on this platform, is this platform not a good candidate to be a Backbone router for a service provider offering MPLS services??? 7500 on the other hand it seems 7500 seems to have support for the MPLS related features.
Not sure what version you where looking at but...

ISDN AOC-D packet causes call to clear down
I have an ISDN problem with a 2500 router running 12.1(5)T9. About 10 seconds into each call, my ISDN provider sends me an AOC-D packet, and this causes my router to clear its call. (Or is it a "display" packet that causes the problem?) The result is that my ISDN connection flaps at 10 second intervals.
To demonstrate this problem, I set up the router to call itself, and the result is in attached file R1.121.txt, showing the call cleared after 10 seconds. I set up an identical configuration on a 2610 running 12.2(17a), and that did not do it - it waited the full 120 seconds before clearing the call - see file R4.122.txt.
From the Q931 debug, it looks like the software does not recognise the AOC-D signal (or the "display" packet?) in this state, and so disconnects the call. This looks especially strange to me as the 12.1 documentation actually contains a section about how to exploit the AOC-D signal to minimise call charges.
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/iosswrel/ps1831/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a00800d9843.html#1000936
Can anyone explain what is going on here, and how I can get the router to ignore the offending signal?
Kevin Dorrell
Luxembourghttp://www.cisco.com/warp/public/129/isdn_disc_code.html
If I read the disconnect code right, it would seem that, "The switch receives the ISDN number in the correct format. However, the number does not belong to destination equipment." That almost sounds like the configured number on your router is not spitting back a result the telco switch expects and is unhappy and disconnects the circuit. If it were a DSL connection, I would say throw a hub between the router and the ethernet interface and try to capture the PPPoE traffic, but it is a little harder with ISDN unless you have a WAN sniffer.
I am not sure what type of 2500 series router you have or what version of code you are running, but I have this running on my 2520:

Keep in mind, this is running the enterprise feature set, also known as the "kitchen sink version" - it's in there. That is not to say that the usability of the IOS stopped for 2500s at 12.2(5), but my guess is that if you booost the gain on your DRAM to the max allowed, you might be able to run that version of IOS. It just takes a while to load.

PBR#As Cisco Freak said, those vlans are being allocated for internal use
Layer 3 LAN ports, WAN interfaces and subinterfaces, and some software features use internal VLANs in the extended range. You cannot use an extended range VLAN that has been allocated for internal use.
In order to use them, you will need to use a descending vlan allocation option, to start allocation from vlan 4094 and down, to do this you will need to apply the command:
vlan internal allocation policy descending
And then reboot your switch, so the internal vlans get reallocated
For more info refer to this configuration guide:

3.3 Deploying the Reconciliation Agent and Provisioning Agent
To deploy the Reconciliation Agent and Provisioning Agent:
Extract the contents of the following file from the installation media to a temporary directory:
etc/Provisioning and Reconciliation Connector/Mainframe_RACF.zip
Transmit the following files to the IBM z/OS computer:
clist.xmi
jcllib.xmi
linklib.xmi
parmlib.xmi
proclib.xmi
You can transmit the files either through FTP or IND$FILE on a TN3270 emulator. The files must be transmitted in binary format.
The output files are in JES2 XMIT format. The output file names can be, for example:
IDF.CLIST.XMIT
IDF.JCLLIB.XMIT
IDF.LINKLIB.XMIT
IDF.PARMLIB.XMIT
IDF.PROCLIB.XMIT
The file attributes are as follows:
RECFM=FB
LRECL=80
BLKSIZE=3120
DSORG=PS
Log in to the TSO environment of the mainframe.
Expand each of the uploaded XMIT files by running TSO Option #6 and then running the RECEIVE INDA('XMIT_FILE_NAME') command. The output is the following files:
IDF.CLISTLIB
IDF.JCLLIB
IDF.LINKLIB
IDF.PARMLIB
IDF.PROCLIB
In TSO, edit the CREATDSN member and modify the MVS job card to match DataCenter job card standards. Modify VOL=SER=?????? so that the value is the VOL=SER disk volume in which the datasets are to be placed.
TSO submit the CREATDSN member to IBM z/OS. Verify that the return code (RC) for completion is 0000.
Ensure that the //SYSPROC statement of REXXCL points to IDF.CLISTLIB, which is the library that contains the CLISTs required by the LDAP Gateway for running batched reconciliation.
Verify that the job card is correct for the installation.
TSO submit the IDCAMSC and REXXCL members to IBM z/OS. Verify that the return code for completion is 0000.
If the ICHPWX01 and ICHRIX02 exits do not exist, then run IEBCOPYL. This copies the LOGPWX01 and LOGRIX02 exits to a new or existing library that is defined in the LPA in IEASYSxx.
If the ICHPWX01, ICHRIX02, or IRREVX01 exit exists, then the LOGPWX01, LOGRIX02, and LOGEVX01 exits must be called as described in Section 3.5, "Installing or Integrating the Reconciliation Agent Exits."
Copy the started tasks and procedures to a new procedure library or an existing library. To do so, review and if required modify the IEBCPYPR member so that it conforms to installation standards. Then, TSO submit the member and verify that the return code for completion is 0000.
Review IEBCOPYP and determine whether the product LINKLIB (IDF.LINKLIB) is APF-authorized at IPL. If it is not APF authorized, then run the IEBCOPYP member.
Similarly, review IDF.PARMLIB member = PROG75. This is the dynamic member for IRREVX01, and it is required for real-time reconciliation. If it is not APF authorized, then run this member.
In the installation running IEASYSxx, verify that the IEFSSNxx member pointed to by the IEASYSxx parameter SSN= has the following defined:
SUBSYS SUBNAME(RACF)
INITRTN(IRRSSI00) INITPARM('#')
This is required because the Provisioning Agent uses the R_Admin RACF service call through the IRRSEQ00 module. Without it, the Provisioning Agent fails.

I periodically need to access my employer's mainframe from home to provide production support. We can access the company servers that use Aventail Remote access software from clients via the Internet, logging in with a user id, pin plus a randomly generated code from an RSA token. I can log into the company servers, access my email and the company's intranet, but I cannot connect to the mainframe computers. To connect, I need ports 23 and 10023 to be active. Using Mozilla Firefox, the diagnostics from the failed connect indicate that port 23 is inactive and 10023 is active. Using Safari, ports 23 and 10023 are both inactive.
I am just conducting a test of accessing my company's mainframe on my son's MacBook Pro because I would like to switch from Windows to OS X. After connecting, I would use TN3270 to work. How can I make the required ports to be active when I need them to connect to my company's mainframe without having to install Windows XP on a Mac?You're welcome. Please keep me up-to-date with your
progress.
Mahalo for the
It turns out that I don't need port 23 after all, just port 10023. The latter port was successfully activated during the mainframe connection attempt in the Firefox browser. Port 23 was not. I then configured the TN3270 emulator to use port 10023 instead of 23, and the emulator successfully connected.
The Safari browser, however, cannot connect to the mainframe. The very first connection attempt with this browser displayed the status window but failed to open ports 23 and 10023. Subsequent connection attempts fail to even display the status window. Block pop-ups must be unchecked for this to happen but it is unchecked. The browser just hangs on the connection attempt. But, since Firefox works, so what. -
Really really stupid questions ,
what is the difference between RAM and Flash and Memory (in Cisco world)?
How much of what I have? (see config below)
What is the maximum flash and RAM and memory allowed for 2511 router?
Thanks a million !!!!

RAM is Random Access Memory and a couple of important things about RAM is that it is faster and that it is volatile so that when the router is reloaded or is power cycled the content of RAM is erased. flash is slower and is non volatile memory so that the content of flash are maintained through a reload or power cycle.
Your router has 64 MB of RAM and has 8 MB of flash.
