TNS-01151: Missing listener name - APPS_VIS

Hi,
We completed the installation of E-BIZ Database and Application onto separate VMs via Oracle's eDelivery templates. Both new VMs are up and running per the OVM Manager.
However, we are not able to connect to the eBusiness Application. Per the e-Business Suite Rapid Install guide, we should be able to verify installation by accessing:
http://<host name>.<domain name>:<HTTP port>/OA_HTML/AppsLogin
We receive a HTTP Internal Error when trying to access this.
Numerous verification steps have been performed including:
- Testing network connectivity (ping) between APP VM and DB VM using the hostname
- Checking that the tnslsnr on DB VM is listening on port 1521, which is what was also configured for APP VM
- Checking that the httpd on APP VM is listening on port 8000
I am unable to run lsnrctl to check the status - how should my profile be set to be able to run this as I receive: lsnrctl: error while loading shared libraries: libclntsh.so.10.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I have also included adalnctl.txt log from the E-BIZ Application Server. I'm not sure whether the LISTENER.ORA on the APP or DB server should be updated. And if so what should it be updated with?

Just a follow-up to this thread. We have now been able to start and successfully login to the e-Business Suite.
The source of the problem was in the installation of the e-Business Suite (via template) - it previously never completed successfully due to:
1) DNS - No DNS has been setup with the new virtual hosts as this is simply a prototyping activity. We found that it initiates connection with DB host during installation and will not complete successfully if one is not found. Furthermore, the /etc/hosts file is wiped of existing entries and replaced just with the host of the e-Business application server everytime ebiz_1211_reconfig.sh is run. Workaround is to login to the host during the reconfiguration and update the /etc/hosts file just after it instantiates the static IP address
2) Apps Password - The application could not startup as it was connecting to the database with a locked out user account. It uses the 'app' user to login to the DB - hence the apps password set during the e-Business application installation must correlate with the app user on the database - in this instance we kept it as apps/apps
After resolving the above issues we are able to connect through the web URL to e-Business Suite.
My next question is, assuming our database instance is called 'VIS', why is adalnctl trying to look for APPS_VIS in the listener.ora? I read
Thanks.

    Hi,
Did you check whether the windows service for listener is up and running? if not please start it, by typing "services.msc" in run window and start the service. Then check whether you have listener.ora file in $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin and also post listener.ora contents.

  • Problem with SQL Listener Name

I installed SQL 2012 with Always on. It has 3 nodes.
Here is the detail information about the server:-
    Server Name
    Failover Mode
    SQL Listener Name
    Node 1
    Automatic
    ABCD
    Node 2
    Automatic
    ABCD
    Node 3
    Manual
    ABCD
It seems application is having problem to connect the DB server with listener name; but application can connect the DB server with server name (i.e. Node 1/2/3). Do you know what would be the reason?
I also noticed when I tried to connect DB server through SSMS (by using SQL Listener name) it is taking too much time. I have to increase “connection time-out” to 60 sec otherwise it is throwing timeout error. But if I use server
name then it is not throwing timeout error. I am not sure why it is taking more time to connect DB by using SQL Listener name.  Any Idea?

    Hi XYZ001,
As other post, please help to post more details for analysis.
Do you configure AlwaysOn Availability Group in a multi-subnet environment? If that is the case, please check the following things.
    1. Make sure that you add the MultiSubnetFailover parameter and set it to true in the Additional Connection Parameters tab when connecting to DB server through SSMS by using Listener name. If you forget to pass in the MultiSubnetFailover parameter, it will
allow for a successful but delayed connection even if you increase “connection time-out”. For more details, please review this
    blog.
    2. When the application is unable to connect the DB server with listener name, the issue could occur when your application either uses a legacy data provider that does not support the new MultiSubnetFailover parameter, or is not configured to use this parameter.
Please use the following resolutions as applicable to your case, for more details, please review this
    article.
•To resolve this situation when the data providers support the MultiSubNetFailover parameter, add the MultiSubNetFailover parameter to your connection string, and set it to true.
•To resolve this situation when your legacy clients cannot use the MultiSubnetFailover property, you can change the listener’s RegisterAllProvidersIP value to 0.
    3. If you have an active Transport Driver Interface (TDI) filter driver that is installed on the client application workstation, you may also get timeout error. For more details, please review this
    KB article.
There is also a similar thread for your reference.

  • Can I change the database Listener name in 11.5.10.2

    Hi Hussen
Is it possible to change the Listener name and port on database node. My Application is of 4 node env. 2 rac database nodes 2 shared application tier nodes.
My requirement is to change the Database node listener name and port.
    Thanks
    reddy

    Reddy,
It is possible -- Please see (How to change the hostname and/or port of the Database Tier using AutoConfig [ID 338003.1]) for details.
However, it is always recommended you have the ports on the application/database tier nodes within the same port pool -- See (How To change the Port Pool in the E-Business Suite 11i [ID 414439.1]).
    Thanks,
    Hussein

  • Cannot connect to SQL SERVER with Always on availability group listener name

    Hi everyone,
I have setup always an availability group listener for sql server on port 1433, have opened the port in  firewall , remote connections are enabled in the sql server, but still I am not able to connect to the sqlserver instance with the help
of the availability group listener name.
    I get the following error.
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections.(provider:
    TCP Provider, error: 0 - The wait operation timed out.)"} System.Exception {System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException
Have gone through several blogs for the solution but none of them helped.
Please let me know if anyone has fixed the issue.
    Regards,
    Divya

Prior to making SS connection, can you establish the connection with a networking tool?

  • How to know listener name in unix

    Hi Expert,
I'm working in solaris 5.9 and oracle 9i, i wanted to know the listener names. since there are some SID running on different port. How do i list the names of listeners.
    Thanks

Actually i suspect some other listener name exit
Whats the basis of this suspicion?Whats the threat/problem if there are multiple listeners running?
There is no other file which lists the listeners excep the listener.ora.If that is not what you want to look for than look for the os/ ps command to show the listener process running as already postd.

  • ORA-12154 - TNS couldnt resolve service name

I have created the following db link :
    CREATE DATABASE LINK RAN.WORLD
    CONNECT TO <>
    IDENTIFIED BY <>
    USING 'DCCCSN1'
    select * from [email protected]
This gives ORA-12154 - TNS couldnt resolve service name
Can someoen advice regarding this please ? I can use the user id and password used to create the db link to connect to the database .Also from command prompt TNSPING DCCCSN1 -also works .So there should be nothing wrong with the TNS entries .Thanks .

Just want to emphasize on the same point Legatti mentioned.
The tns entry you mentioned must exist in the tnsnames.ora of the server where the your database (where the dblink has been created) resides.
Lot of times people think that the tns entry is required on the machine you running the command from, which is wrong.
    Thanks,
    Ankit.
