TNS-12535 Error on Windows with Norton Worm Protection
Hope this mail can help another users installing oracle 10G with Windows and Norton Antivirus with Internet Worm protection enabled; having the error TNS-12535
I try to install Oracle 10G v1 and v2 on Windows XP SP2 with Internet Worm Protection enabled (for several hours I didn´t realize that the problem was that). Have problems with listener and my IP address or host; it resolved in first instance changing the configuration to localhost or 127.0.0.1; but I can't receive client connections. And after a few traces and less hair; discover that Norton Internet Worm Protection locks Oracle 1521 port; just reconfigured it and works fine.
If you look in Norton Log Viewer you will see something like this
Details: No logged in account. The present default action is to "block" communications.
Inbound TCP connection.
Local address,service is (HOST_NAME(IP_ADDRESS),1521).
Remote address,service is (HOST_NAME(IP_ADDRESS),1219).
Process name is "X:\oracle\product\10.1.0\Db_1\BIN\TNSLSNR.exe".

Tns-12535 error: timeout on windows 2000
Issue--
Installed Oracle 8.1.5 on windows 2000. A database was created successifully and funtions. However, I got TNS-12535 'listener time out'when trying to connect the server from client. Reset the timeout parameter to 0 in listener.ora but it didn't help. It's also found that there is no sqlnet.ora within admin folder.
Question--
1. Why was sqlnet.ora not created? No need?
2. Shoud I copy a sqlnet.ora file into admin directory?
3. How to sovle tiemout problem? any additional setting?
Thanks
nliuI have checked the Toshiba driver page and it seems that the common modules for Tecra S1 are not available.
Anyway, the Tcmsvr.dll file could be also a part of Toshiba console. Its very difficult to detect it.
The Toshiba console is available on the driver page.
It's worth a try. -
I recently downloaded the most current version of itunes automatically, got an error during the install process and was unable to open my existing itunes after that occurrance. I unistalled and reinstalled 3 times. Says installed finished but when I try to open itunes I get the following pop up.
Apple Application Support required. Error 2 (windows error)
Please help, I'm a Ballroom Dancer and need my music back.
Thanks.
MartyLet's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.) -
Oracle TNS 12535 error after moving repository DB from Win NT to Win 2K
Business Objects 5.1
We have recently moved an Oracle database from Windows NT to Windows 2000. One particular user keeps on getting ORA-12535: TNS: operation timed out.
What could be causing this?
The user can run SQL*Plus and connect to the database without any problems.
The user gets this error when running BO itself. When running our Application or any other Oracle tool or utility (TOAD, SQL*Plus), etc, then all works fine.
From my own PC I can use the 'problem' users BO login to connect to the repository.
So the nature of the problem suggests a network or configuration issue of some kind. We have limited BO expertise at this site.
Please can someone advise?
regards,
MKHi Mo,
If the previous solution provided doesnu2019t works then check the following things:
1. Check the ORACLE_HOME value in the Registry and ensure that your PC has only one "ociw32.dll" file.
2. Confirm that the PATH environment variable definition's first Oracle /bin folder path points to the middleware
installation you intend Supervisor to use.
3. Add the repository database server's IP address to the local HOSTS file.
4. Confirm the repository database's entry in the Oracle TNSNames.ora file.

thank you,

TNS-12518 error on windows 64bit -
hi all
we are getting the above error when connecting using SQL plus
we have 10 databases on the server
is this erorr due to resources onthe windows box
thanxis this erorr due to resources on the windows boxThat's one possible cause.
How many resources are you using? How many do you want, and how many do you need?
Add up all the SGA+PGA for all ten instances, if its near the total memory available on the box ... move a couple instances elsewhere.
You've got to have a couple GB free for the OS. -
TNS-12535 TNS:operation timed out - Win 7 - WAN
Hi!
Database Version: Oracle 11.2.0.2
Server OS: Linux 64bit
Database server "A" at different location (connecting through a 10 MBPS link - latency 15 ms).
I can ping to server.
When i connect to server "A" from client on Windows 7 I got TNS-12535 error (All Win 7 clients).
Firewall on client is down.
When i connect to server"A" from client on Win XP or Win 2003 server is OK.
Both TNSNAMES.ora and SQLNET.ora are the same on each client.
tnsnames.ora

From all clients I can connect to local database server "B" without problem.
Laptop with Win 7 carried to location "A" can connect to server "A".
I've tried Oracle clients from 10.2 to 11.2 and in each case 'tnsping db11' give TNS-12535 error. You are NOT going to like this answer, but all is symptomatic of Firewall between client & server.

You can conclude I had a REALLY lucky guess or there is high correlation between VM & having TNS-12535 error.
It is your system & you are free to (ab)use it any way you choose to do so.
We both know SQL*Net can & does work as advertised, but requires a properly configured OS & Network underneath it. -
Hi

ThanksHi,
Nothing to investigate at the application side, there is everything to investigate at the network side.
Check the below points.
- is there any firewall in play
- is there any Network Address Translation into play
- have the correct ports been opened in the firewall
- is Oracle using random return ports (by default Oracle always uses 2 tcp/ip ports, the first one fixed, and configured in tnsnames.ora, the actual communication takes place on a radom port. If that is a problem at your site you need to fix that)
- You need to run netstat -r to identify which ports are actually used.

OSB proxy secured with message level protection - No Protocol error
I have an OSB business service that calls a JAX-WS service protected by OWSM policy wss11_message_protection_service_policy. The business service is protected by the corresponding client policy. The proxy service is secured by wss11_message_protection_service_policy. Business service works fine but the proxy doesn't. It runs into this "no protocol" error below on the outbound. The system is a windows 8 64 bit PC and uses IPV6. The domain path has no spaces (I read online on an unrelated forum that spaces can cause this 'no protocol' error). This error occurs only with the message protection policy. UserName token works fine from proxy->business svc->webservice. There are no issues with the certificates because I am able to call the webservice using a jax-ws client using the certificates in keystore.

5G 30G fix (for now at least) Windows XP + Norton
This resolved my ipod problems I hope it helps a few of you. I'm using a Acer laptop with Windows XP SP2.
I had similar problems to those on a lot of existing threads. Ipod appeared dead !+folder and I was about to give up.
One message lead me to my solution. Remove all itunes and ipod software. Disable Norton anti virus. Reload software from CD. Ipod came to life when connecting to PC - prompted me to reload ipod software. Ipod then recongnised in iTunes. First attempt to transfer songs failed. Went back to Norton and disabled the firewall (even though it was already showing as inactive). Songs have now transferred to iPod and appears to be working fine (for now at least).
Message to Apple - if you read these.
A problem caused by Windows with Norton, the most common combination and you didn't test it! Someone needs their ares kicked (one extra from me). Five hours finding this solution!Try the Firefox SafeMode to see how it works there. <br />
''A troubleshooting mode, which disables most Add-ons.'' <br />
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default Theme.)''
* You can open the Firefox 4/5/6/7 SafeMode by holding the '''Shft''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* Or use the Help menu item, click on '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' while Firefox is running. <br />
''Don't select anything right now, just use "Continue in SafeMode."''
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shft key) to open it again.''
'''''If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. <br />

Oracle 10g on Windows 7: TNS-12535: TNS:operation timed out
I installed Oracle 10g (Version 10.2.0) on Windows 7 Professional on my laptop. Everything installed cleanly, but I simply cannot get an Oracle-client communication going. For some reason, TNSPing keeps timing out, as follows:
C:\Users\Bruce>tnsping orcl
TNS Ping Utility for 32-bit Windows: Version 10.2.0.1.0 - Production on 13-SEP-2

Used parameter files:
F:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1\network\admin\sqlnet.ora
Used TNSNAMES adapter to resolve the alias
Attempting to contact (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)
(HOST = Bruce-Desktop)(PORT = 1521))) (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME = ORCL)))
TNS-12535: TNS:operation timed out
I am using DHCP on my home network, but I turned off the firewall for this exercise. Also, I set up a static loopback connector = 192.168.100.100
Here is SQLNET.ORA:
SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)
NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES)
Here is TNSNAMES.ORA:
ORCL =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = Bruce-Desktop)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVICE_NAME = ORCL)
EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC1))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SID = PLSExtProc)
(PRESENTATION = RO)
Here is LISTENER.ORA:
SID_LIST_LISTENER01 =
(SID_LIST =
(SID_DESC =
(SID_NAME = PLSExtProc)
(ORACLE_HOME = F:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_2)
(PROGRAM = extproc)
LISTENER01 =
(DESCRIPTION_LIST =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = Bruce-Laptop)(PORT = 1521))
Any help and/or guidance on how to diagnose & fix this problem would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you.Hi Bruce,
The scenario you just provided is what you don't want. You want Bruce-Desktop to have a static address. The easiest way to have this setup properly is to look at the IP address that is assigned by the DHCP server and assign that address statically to the interface.
The way you have it now, I cannot tell which IP address Oracle will be using because that will depend on the binding order. You can control that by going to "My network places" -> "Properties" - > "Advanced" -> "Adapters and Bindings"/"Provider Order". It complicates matters though to do it that way.
Since I cannot see exactly in what state your installation is, I would suggest you start over, this time with the network setup as needed. I can help you with the setup if you are willing to go thru the installation again. Trying to guess everything that should be modified in your current installation will be too error prone.
John.
For a new, clean installation, these are the basic steps:
1. Set the computer name appropriately, something like "orahost" is a reasonable choice.
2. Set the primary DNS suffix for the computer to something like "bruce.local"
3. Set the IP address of your computer to be static (you won't even need a loopback adapter)
4. Enter the appropriate information in your hosts file, given the values I mentioned above, it should look something like:
127.0.0.1 localhost
192.168.247.120 orahost.bruce.localchange the 192.168.247.120 to whatever IP address you statically assigned in step 3
When you create the database and it wants the database name, enter <databasename>.bruce.local
Another recommendation, in that same screen, it will want the SID, I use <databasename>sid. This makes it clearer later when Oracle expects an SID instead of a connect identifier or a database name. (though most people have the sid set the same as the database name - for learning purposes, I believe you are better off with different values, in order to tell, when it wants one instead of the other - otherwise, it's hard to visualize)
This way you are mimicking an installation that is closer to a real production environment.
If you want to use DHCP, still do step 3 but reserve the IP address you assigned statically in the DHCP server, that way the static IP will match what would have been assigned by the DHCP server.
HTH,
John. -
Last week I installed firefox 4.0 beta & the next time the computer was restarted a rundll error window appeared that said windows cannot locate file. This file showed up in the startup programs. When norton finds this which is every 1 or 2 days it removes it after a restart but the error & malware comes back. I went back to firefox 3.6 but still have this problem. Can you help?
Thanks, DennisIt seems unusual that Norton should block and remove firefox updates. Having said that I was posting in a thread about problems with Norton a few days ago see [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/789617#answer-143767 thread] ''"I down loaded fromFFox the latest down - norton 360 - stopped the down load - stated not to use it - asked to stop running the program - I click yes thinking a problem now on my other computer I cant use FFox as a Browers -"''
I use Norton (NIS) and received only a mild advisory on one Firefox update. I have Windows XP with Firefox3.6.15 & 4RC installed -

hello
i am having major trouble installing itunes. i had itunes working fine and i went to update it as it told me there was an update which i thought i did. i went on my laptop the next day and it said "itunes was not installed correctly error 7 windows error 998"
i read a few articles on here but i am having no joy. i uninstalled itunes and reinstalled and that did not work. i also unistalled some other apple things cant remember the names sorry!
i am not a whiz on a computer so really need some help please!!Installing, and uninstalling, applications never touches or removes the data.
Clean out and uninstall all the apple programs and software thru Programs and manually.
Might want to use Revo and CCleaner
I always use manual standalone installers (and keep a couple backup versions)
itunes 10.5 may affect iTunes media playlists, not sure, depends on what you have.
A search of these forums will show some threads.
I'd clean up vista, you need SP2 or later, and specific error message?
I wonder as you arenot the first with a dell if maybe the OS or included software.
Security programs like Norton and older versions of Kaspersky have been implicated.
Also settings in IE that affect pop-ups and plug-ins.
