Tns-12535 error: timeout on windows 2000

Issue--
Installed Oracle 8.1.5 on windows 2000. A database was created successifully and funtions. However, I got TNS-12535 'listener time out'when trying to connect the server from client. Reset the timeout parameter to 0 in listener.ora but it didn't help. It's also found that there is no sqlnet.ora within admin folder.
Question--
1. Why was sqlnet.ora not created? No need?
2. Shoud I copy a sqlnet.ora file into admin directory?
3. How to sovle tiemout problem? any additional setting?
Thanks
nliu

I have checked the Toshiba driver page and it seems that the common modules for Tecra S1 are not available.
Anyway, the Tcmsvr.dll file could be also a part of Toshiba console. Its very difficult to detect it.
The Toshiba console is available on the driver page.
It's worth a try.

Hope this mail can help another users installing oracle 10G with Windows and Norton Antivirus with Internet Worm protection enabled; having the error TNS-12535
I try to install Oracle 10G v1 and v2 on Windows XP SP2 with Internet Worm Protection enabled (for several hours I didn´t realize that the problem was that). Have problems with listener and my IP address or host; it resolved in first instance changing the configuration to localhost or 127.0.0.1; but I can't receive client connections. And after a few traces and less hair; discover that Norton Internet Worm Protection locks Oracle 1521 port; just reconfigured it and works fine.
If you look in Norton Log Viewer you will see something like this

  • Oracle TNS 12535 error after moving repository DB from Win NT to Win 2K

    Business Objects 5.1
We have recently moved an Oracle database from Windows NT to Windows 2000. One particular user keeps on getting ORA-12535: TNS: operation timed out.
    What could be causing this?
The user can run SQL*Plus and connect to the database without any problems.
The user gets this error when running BO itself. When running our Application or any other Oracle tool or utility (TOAD, SQL*Plus), etc, then all works fine.
From my own PC I can use the 'problem' users BO login to connect to the repository.
So the nature of the problem suggests a network or configuration issue of some kind. We have limited BO expertise at this site.
    Please can someone advise?
    regards,
    MK

    Hi Mo,
If the previous solution provided doesnu2019t works then check the following things:
    1. Check the ORACLE_HOME value in the Registry and ensure that your PC has only one "ociw32.dll" file.
    2. Confirm that the PATH environment variable definition's first Oracle /bin folder path points to the middleware
installation you intend Supervisor to use.
    3. Add the repository database server's IP address to the local HOSTS file.
    4. Confirm the repository database's entry in the Oracle TNSNames.ora file.

  • Acrobat 8 Print Error, Xerox Docuprint Windows 2000

    Windows 2000 SP4
    Adobe Acrobat 8.12 Standard
    Xerox DocuPrint 92C printer
Driver: Xerox Windows 2000/XP Production Printer Driver v 3.7.52 (2004)
    PDF file version is 1.5
When I print the first page of the PDF file prints fine. The next set of pages prints a box outline, then fails. The printer prints an error report that says
Error: PostScriptJobAborted, job has error termination.
When I print the same document with Acrobat 7 Std, on the same machine (install/uninstall) it prints fine.
I do know that the Xerox drivers are OLD (2004), but I verified that it is the latest version available on the Xerox Web site.
This does print fine to another HP laser printer (unfortunately I can't use that one except for testing).
I've compared PostScript setting etc, but everything is set the same between the two versions. This seems like I will probably stick with version 7. After searching the forum, it seems like Acrobat 8 created a lot of printing problems.
    Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated.

Just for the record, in case anyone else comes looking for a solution to the same problem, the issue appears to be with my Kaspersky Anti-Virus software. By setting a check mark against most of the exclusions in the Kaspersky application control for Acrobat Distiller everything now seems to be working OK.
Thanks to everyone who took the time to read my original posting.

  • Windows 2000 provider version error

    Hi,
I have an application developed in vs2008 targeting the 2.0 framework and using the ODT with ODAC1110621.
The application works fine on an XP client, but when run on a Windows 2000 machine, encounters the following error....
The type initializer for 'Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleConnection' threw an exception.
    at Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleConnection..ctor(String connectionString)
    at EMS002V.ClsDB..ctor()
Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleException The provider is not compatible with the version of Oracle client at Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleInit.Initialize()
    at Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleConnection..cctor()
The target machine(s) are using the ODAC1110621xcopy package using a full install of the client and components.
The application uses a class object (ClsDB) to access the database and blows up when the constructor is called. In the class constructor is the OracleConnection constructor and that is what is generating the error.
The windows 2000 machine has no other oracle components other than the oracle data provider and client, so I'm at a loss to explain why I'm getting this error.

    Hi,
I dont have anything good to help you troubleshoot this specific environment, and I'm reasonably sure 11g ODAC was never tested or certified on Win2k as I think that OS has been desupported for a while now. However, perhaps some background might help (then again, it might not)..
"Provider incompatible with client" generally occurs when OraOps11w (which is loaded by Oracle.DataAccess.dll) cant find the right version of OCI.dll, perhaps because it's not there at all, perhaps it's there but wasnt found because the OracleHome isnt in your PATH environment variable, or perhaps because the wrong version was found..
Sooo, I'd recommend using Process Explorer to check the dll's that are loaded by the process when the error occurs, and where they're loaded from. Search your computer for OCI.dll, do you have just the one in the OH\bin directory? Check your PATH environment variable, is the Oracle Home there?
    Hope it helps

    Hi everyone,
I am starting to play with Oracle DB recnetly..
today I have TNS connection failed issue.
When I tried to use ODBC to connect Oracle XE DB, I got ORA-12535: TNS:operation timed out.

I can connect Oracle DB by http://localhost:8080/apex and sqlpus.

I have no idea why my TNS connection got timeout issue.
Did someone encounter the same issue before?

Is it related?I can not say it is related with 100% certainty.
You can conclude I had a REALLY lucky guess or there is high correlation between VM & having TNS-12535 error.
It is your system & you are free to (ab)use it any way you choose to do so.
We both know SQL*Net can & does work as advertised, but requires a properly configured OS & Network underneath it.

  • TNS-12535 TNS:operation timed out - Win 7 - WAN

    Hi!
    Database Version: Oracle 11.2.0.2
    Server OS: Linux 64bit
Database server "A" at different location (connecting through a 10 MBPS link - latency 15 ms).
    I can ping to server.
When i connect to server "A" from client on Windows 7 I got TNS-12535 error (All Win 7 clients).
    Firewall on client is down.
When i connect to server"A" from client on Win XP or Win 2003 server is OK.
Both TNSNAMES.ora and SQLNET.ora are the same on each client.

From all clients I can connect to local database server "B" without problem.
Laptop with Win 7 carried to location "A" can connect to server "A".
I've tried Oracle clients from 10.2 to 11.2 and in each case 'tnsping db11' give TNS-12535 error.

You are NOT going to like this answer, but all is symptomatic of Firewall between client & server.

    Hi,
Nothing to investigate at the application side, there is everything to investigate at the network side.
    Check the below points.
    - is there any firewall in play
    - is there any Network Address Translation into play
    - have the correct ports been opened in the firewall
    - is Oracle using random return ports (by default Oracle always uses 2 tcp/ip ports, the first one fixed, and configured in tnsnames.ora, the actual communication takes place on a radom port. If that is a problem at your site you need to fix that)
    - You need to run netstat -r to identify which ports are actually used.

Any help and/or guidance on how to diagnose & fix this problem would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you.

    Hi Bruce,
The scenario you just provided is what you don't want. You want Bruce-Desktop to have a static address. The easiest way to have this setup properly is to look at the IP address that is assigned by the DHCP server and assign that address statically to the interface.
The way you have it now, I cannot tell which IP address Oracle will be using because that will depend on the binding order. You can control that by going to "My network places" -> "Properties" - > "Advanced" -> "Adapters and Bindings"/"Provider Order". It complicates matters though to do it that way.
Since I cannot see exactly in what state your installation is, I would suggest you start over, this time with the network setup as needed. I can help you with the setup if you are willing to go thru the installation again. Trying to guess everything that should be modified in your current installation will be too error prone.
    John.
For a new, clean installation, these are the basic steps:
    1. Set the computer name appropriately, something like "orahost" is a reasonable choice.
    2. Set the primary DNS suffix for the computer to something like "bruce.local"
    3. Set the IP address of your computer to be static (you won't even need a loopback adapter)
    4. Enter the appropriate information in your hosts file, given the values I mentioned above, it should look something like:
    127.0.0.1               localhost
192.168.247.120         orahost.bruce.localchange the 192.168.247.120 to whatever IP address you statically assigned in step 3
When you create the database and it wants the database name, enter <databasename>.bruce.local
Another recommendation, in that same screen, it will want the SID, I use <databasename>sid. This makes it clearer later when Oracle expects an SID instead of a connect identifier or a database name. (though most people have the sid set the same as the database name - for learning purposes, I believe you are better off with different values, in order to tell, when it wants one instead of the other - otherwise, it's hard to visualize)
This way you are mimicking an installation that is closer to a real production environment.
If you want to use DHCP, still do step 3 but reserve the IP address you assigned statically in the DHCP server, that way the static IP will match what would have been assigned by the DHCP server.

    John.

  • Exception_access_violation error on Windows 2000 Professional

    Hello,
I am developing a stand-alone Java application that runs without any problem on Windows 98, XP, and most 2000 and NT machines. On some Windows 2000 Professional machines, however, attempting to run the program generates the following error. Is there something about the configuration of these machines that needs to be adjusted to make the program work? The JRE (1.4) and program installation are done in exactly the same way in each case. The only variation seems to be in the version of the operating system.
Any help much appreciated. Best reply gets 4 DD's!
    Thanks much,
    David

Yes, the user in question is logging on with full Administrator access. He suspects some kind of conflict with another application on the machine, but given that the two occurrences I've seen of this error have been on NT and 2K Pro machines, I'm inclined to think it's operating system related. Any more hunches?

  • Error while Installing Oracle 8i on windows 2000 box

When trying to install the Oracle 8i software, I get the following error from the event log:
The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( PctSpk ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. The following information is part of the event: PctSpk error: 1063, StartServiceCtrlDispatcher failed..
If anyone have suggestions to solving my problems, please advise.
Note: I've started all possible services that I could think of.

Definitely 8i won't work with windows vista. 10gR2 (10.2.0.1.0) was not certified to run against vista, Oracle had to release an specific 10.2.0.3.0 for Windows Vista. Previous releases are Not supported at all and there are no plans to support them.
If you are planning to use 8i on your Vista OS, it won't be possible, but you can create a Virtual Machine with a supported guest OS for 8i, Windows 2000 is certified for 8i, Windows XP is not supported for 8i, but I have been working with it for years without any issue (this is not a suggestion for production environments).
