Tns adapter error and tns timeout occured

Hi,
I have intalled Oracle 10g and it worked first time after installation.
Now, after I restarted my computet , I get the followin message (when I am connected to internet): TNS: timeout error occured
and when I am login to internet I get the following: tns: adapter error.
Plese can you help me?

This is a duplicated thread from : Re: tns: protocol adapter error
If you don't mind, let's continue with one single thread for this to be easier to track and answer.
This error means your tns entry is pointing somewhere else but your target listener/instance. Could you please specify the host/sid and post the tns entry you use to get connected?

  • ORA-12560 TNS:Protocol Adapter Error and ORA-12557 Error

    Hello ,
    I have installed Oracle 11.2.0 64 bit database on my Windows 7 ( Home Premium) PC which is also 64 bit. I installed it because I am trying to setup Informatica. Later, I learnt that informatica is 32 bit and can not communicate to Oracle 11.2.0 64 bit database. So after digging through solutions, someone mentioned that I need to install Oracle 11g client 32bit.
    I have installed 11g client software successfully now. Here is problem though :
    When I launch SQL-Plus from 11g database , it works fine. However I launch SQL-Plus from 32bit client it gives me error as :
    Ora-12560 :TNS: Protocol Adapter Error.
    So I have been trying to resolve this error. I saw that this question has been posted many many times and have tried many thing as listed below :
    1. copy tnsnames.ora from database ( dbhome_1) to client installation ( client_1 ) under ..\network\admin\ --- Didn't work.
    2. Set $ORACLE_HOME and $ORACLE_SID environment variable.
    Here is interesting fact - If I set $ORACLE_HOME to database path and not client path error changes to :
    ORA-12557 TNS: Protocol adapter not loadable.
    If I keep $ORACLE_HOME as client path then I get same error as earlier ORA-12560.
    3. I have also tried changing $PATH variable. I did set to path containing only database installation, only client installation, both database and client installation with database installation appearing first
    But all of these haven't worked.
    Can anyone please suggest what I am missing and any further things I could try ?
    Thank you in advance !

    Thank you in advance !unfortunately, we need to know exactly how you tried to connect with sqlplus when it "worked" and when it "didn't work". The key to the reported error messages is highly dependent on the environment settings AND the specification of the connect string. A copy and paste of the entire command line session would be most helpful.
    But again, running on any 'home' edition of windows is not supported.

  • Ora - 12560 TNS Protocol Adapter Error and

    Hi,
    When the install script tries to connect inernal and create a database instance...the error "ora - 12560 TNS Protocol Adapter Error" is generated which I found in the install log.
    I already have successfully created one database (orcl1) on this NT4 (service pack 6). The second database creation is what's giving me a hard time. BTW, I can connect to the first installed database with no problem through sqlplus. However, the second database is a different story (protocol adapter error). I have checked the windows registy to make sure that the entries are there for the second database as there are for the first(orcl1).
    How can I resolve this?

    I assume you are using the ASP.NET Web Site Admin Tool. If so, make sure you do a couple of things to be able to connect.
    1) On the Provider tab, choose the second link on the page: the "Advanced" link. Select the Oracle Membership and Role providers here. Now, this admin tool will use the correct providers
    2) Next, you need to make sure that the ASP.NET admin tool can connect to Oracle. You can modify the connection string in the IIS admin tool or your machine.config. If you modify your machine.config, look for the following entry:
    <connectionStrings>
    <add name="OraAspNetConString" providerName="Oracle.DataAccess.Client"
    connectionString="User Id=aspnet;Password=aspnet;Data Source=xe" />
    </connectionStrings>
    Obviously, replace what I have here with your the data source, user id, and password that contain the ASP.NET providers schema that was created in the DB. In this case, I created a separate schema called "aspnet" to store this info.
    After that, the ASP.NET admin tool should be able to connect. It will be default to Windows authentication mode, but you can change it to requiring a user id format.

  • ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error after patch 9.2.0.7 on Windows2K

    I just install the patch 9.2.0.7 for client Oracle machine on windows 2000 server.
    Since then I'm constantly getting "ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error" and I cannot connect via SQL plus.
    Any help is appreciated, mj

    I'm trying to connect to databases that are running on a separate machines - aix5.2, and I can connect from every other machine in the office but not from this one.
    There's no database on this machine - only Oracle client tools installed with 9.2.0.1 and then updated to 9.2.0.7. Before the update the sqlplus was working just fine. After the patch run, I'm not able to connect viw sqlplus.
    There were no errors when running the patch.
    Thanks a lot,mj

  • Oracle 12560 tns protocol adapter error

    Hi, I have installed oracle database 10G Release 10.2.0.1.0 in my laptop which works correctly, Then I installed Oracle Developer suite in the same laptop because It is for study purpose only (I don't plan to connect to another pc). I had to start the OC4J instance manually, I create a form with the forms builder but when I compile the Oracle application server forms service gives this error :'oracle 12560 tns protocol adapter error ' and then shows me a connect screen that doesnt accept my password, Can anybody please help me

    To connect to an Oracle database you need to make the connection identifier which is something like this:
    <service name> =
      (DESCRIPTION =
        (ADDRESS_LIST =
          (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = <server hostname>)(PORT = 1521))
        (CONNECT_DATA =
          (SERVICE_NAME = <db SID>)
      )Not that the port number is the default number, if you have changed it during database installation you need to use the right port number.
    Or the easier way you can use the Net Configuration Assistance GUI tool found in Start/my programs/oracle home

  • TestStand Test Environment adapter dll error and Type Palette error

    I am new to TestStand and I am having a problem opening a TestStand 3.1 standalone UI application. The UI was built a couple of years ago and others use it within my company without problem. I however get the 3 .DLL adapter errors and the Type Palette errors shown below when I try to open it and I can't figure it out. I have tried everything from uninstalling and reloading TestStand 3.1 and uninstalling the UI application and reloading and it did not fix the problem. I verified that the errored .DLL's are present in the Bin directory and the Type Palette files are present in the Type Palette directory. I asked other more experienced TestStand developers within my company if they have ever seen this or knew what was wrong and they can't explain the errors either. Any suggestions?

    Cole - There are probably many differences between my machine and that of my counterparts but they have told me that the only thing I should need to run this standalone TestStand GUI application is TestStand 3.1 and Microsoft .NET Framework which I do have.
    The standalone GUI application is a common front end application that we use for a large part of our production testing at my company. It allows us to have a GUI based front end to our TestStand sequences for running testing in a production environment so the operators can see the test running step by step on the screen. We have the GUI application installed on multiple different Production machines (probably over 10) and all are different machines with different software installed on each. the only real common aspect between them that we ensure is that they all have TestStand 3.1, the GUI application, and .NET Framework installed.

  • BackupExec: A timeout occurred waiting for NDMPD.NLM to init

    "Error: 1004 A timeout occurred waiting for NDMPD.NLM to initialize."
    A very common and well documented issue but every fix I have found has not worked. The list is extensive so I will start by describing the issue, then the environment and finally what I have tried so far.
    The issue
    I can not load BackupExec 9.1 or 9.2 on NetWare 6.5 SP8. The loader starts and when it gets to loading NDMPD.NLM the CPU hits 99% (reported by monitor.nlm) and BackupExec stops loading for about 80-120 seconds. The loader eventually gives up after a non-critical abend. From this point on I can not unload becdm.cdm and I generally reboot the server to clear the abend.
    BackupExec has been working on the server for about 2 years, I can not link any changes to the time it stopped working.
    It used to load reliably every time for about 1.5 years and then it started to exhibit this issue when loading 1 in 10 times. It has gradually gotten worse and now will not load at all.
    Before you say it, yes I know Symantec dropped BackupExec for NetWare years ago.
    It seems to me this can only be a hardware issue now but I'm keen to hear any other ideas?
    The environment
    * The physical server is a HP DL385 G5 (SKU 411360-371), the tape drive is an external half height HP Ultrium 448 LTO 2 (SKU DW086A) using SAS to connect to a HP SC44Ge SAS HBA (SKU 416096-B21). It has 18GB of RAM, Two quad-core AMD Opteron 2352 2.1 GHz CPU's and 5 x direct attached SAS hard drives running on the internal P400 RAID controller configured with RAID 5.
    * I can provide firmware versions if needed, the BIOS is HP A09 2009-07-11. Don't have the tape drive or HBA versions to hand.
    * The server is running VMware ESXi 4.1.0 build 260247, using a free license i.e. stand alone.
    * The VMware server uses about 50% of RAM, 70% of storage and 12% of CPU.
    * The guest is NetWare 6.5 SP8 (overlay) running as a guest with 4GB of vRAM and a single CPU. The tape drive is presented as a generic SCSI device.
    * I'm running BackupExec for NetWare 9.2.1401.5 build 287839 with the NetWare Open File Option and a Windows Remote Agent.
    * I'm running the storage driver LSIMPTNW.HAM version 5.02, 5 Dec 2007, which is default with SP8. BackupExec 9.2 device driver becdm.cdm version 7.50, 7 Feb 2006.
    * The NetWare server sees the tape drive as an "Unbound Device Object" until becdm.cdm is loaded at which point its recognsied as "HP Ultrium 2-SCSI T65D"
    * The tape drive is listed on the BackupExec HCL - "StorageWorks Ultrium 448 LTO2" except mine is SAS not SCSI. Enterprise Support - Symantec Corp. - Symantec Backup Exec for NetWare Servers (tm) 9.x (9.0, 9.1, 9.2) Hardware Compatibility List. What have I tried so far?
    * We have a rental tape drive identical to our own as the original one was over-heating, so I have tried two physical tape drives. Both using the same server, HBA and SAS tape drive cable.
    * I have used tcpcon.nlm to check that port 10,000 is unused.
    * I have tried the parameter -!X on the line of bestart.ncf that loads BackupExec to stop it checking if port 10,000 is free.
    * I have added a set statement to c:\nwserver\startup.ncf "set auto load of cdm modules = off" so it will not try to load unwanted CDM's.
    * I have renamed all copies of nwtape.cdm to nwtape.cdx on the C: so they can not be auto loaded.
    * There are no load statements in the startup.ncf for other tape drive device drivers. Just scsihd.cdm and idecd.cdm.
    * There are no tape libraries or robots involved. Its just a basic tape drive.
    * The physical and virtual server have been rebooted numerous times to ensure its not a memory issue etc...
    * I've loaded the server with no other significant modules loaded. Just the basics like eDirectory etc... and the same issue still occurs.
    * In addition to the NW65 SP8 default version of lsimptnw.ham I have tried version 5.03.01, 23 Jan 2008, from the LSI website.
    * I have deleted the original BackupExec folder from the server (sys:\bkupexec) and re-installed BackupExec numerous times.
    * I have powered off the tape drive a number of times
    * I have changed the tape drives virtual SCSI ID, presented by VMware to the NetWare guest, to be a higher number on the same virtual HBA as the virtual disk. I have also tried allocating the tape drive a virtual SCSI ID on a dedicated virtual HBA, SCSI 1:0.
    * I have deleted the SMDR config file (sys:\etc\sms\smdr.cfg) and re-created it using the command "load smdr.nlm new"
    * I have deleted the NetWare servers backup queue and the SMS SMDR Group from eDirectory and re-created the queue using the command "load qman.nlm new". Note: as its NW65SP8 the SMS RPC object does not exist and the SMS SMDR group is not re-created.
    * I have deleted the two BackupExec objects from eDirectory and re-created them by loading BackupExec using "bestart.ncf".
    * I have checked the health of eDirectory.
    * I have tried the LSI SAS and LSI Parallel virtual HBA's in the VMware guest machine.
    * I have tried adding the parameter qtags=off to the load command for lsimptnw.ham in startup.ncf.
    * I have tried the parameter -b on the line of bestart.ncf that loads BackupExec
    * I have tried loading ipxspx.nlm to stop any public symbol error messages when loading BackupExec
    * I have also tried BackupExec version 9.1 build 0306.12 and 9.1.1158.10 build 289707
    * I have built a second NetWare 6.5 SP8 server (SP8 overlay DVD, MD5 verified ISO media) using the Backup server profile during the GUI install stage. I have loaded afreecon.nlm, installed VMware tools (vmwtool.nlm) and BackupExec for NetWare 9.2.1401.5 build 287839. The same issue occurs

    Thanks,

    Well the problem is now resolved. It was either faulty tapes (about 12 of) or two tape drives with faulty heads. We had the heads replaced in one of the drives and tested it with a new tape, it works perfectly again.

  • Patch 9239090 - ORA-04021: timeout occurred while waiting to lock object

    Hello Guys,
    I need help urgently to comlete an upgrade of ebs 12.1.1 to 12.1.3.
    We are upgrading ebs 11i to 12i going live this weekend. We have encountered "ORA-04021: timeout occurred while waiting to lock object" on patch 9239090 with two Workers:
    In adctrl:
    1 Run AutoPatch R120 AFUTLGRS.pls FAILED
    2 Run AutoPatch R120 AFUTLOGS.pls FAILED
    sqlplus -s APPS/***** @/u02/applfinp/apps/apps_st/appl/admin/OFPROD/out/p001invok.sql
    Connected.
    create or replace package wf_bes_cleanup AUTHID CURRENT_USER as
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-04021: timeout occurred while waiting to lock object
    I have done everything everything imaginable but cannot get pass these 2 failed workers.
    1) I have checked are there are no locks blocking on any objects:
    select s1.username || '@' || s1.machine
    || ' ( SID=' || s1.sid || ' ) is blocking '
    || s2.username || '@' || s2.machine || ' ( SID=' || s2.sid || ' ) ' AS blocking_status
    from v$lock l1, v$session s1, v$lock l2, v$session s2
    where s1.sid=l1.sid and s2.sid=l2.sid
    and l1.BLOCK=1 and l2.request > 0
    and l1.id1 = l2.id1
    and l2.id2 = l2.id2 ;
    2) I also checked and there is space in the database.
    3) From adctrl, I have tried restarting the jobs one by one but the worker 1 hangs at and eventually fails on several (12) attempts.
    4) The solution on Doc ID 1291064.1 is not the problem:
    SQL> select SUPPLEMENTAL_LOG_DATA_MIN, SUPPLEMENTAL_LOG_DATA_PK, SUPPLEMENTAL_LOG_DATA_UI, FORCE_LOGGING
    from v$database;
    SUPPLEME SUP SUP FOR
    NO NO NO NO
    5) Manual execution still gave ORA-04021:
    sqlplus -s APPS/apps @/u02/applfinp/apps/apps_st/appl/admin/OFPROD/out/p001invok.sql
    sqlplus -s APPS/apps @/u02/applfinp/apps/apps_st/appl/admin/OFPROD/out/p002invok.sql
    6) The alert log has no related errors
    7) I Finally, after over 6 hours of waiting, I could only get the patch to continue after by using adctrl option 8 to skip these two workers.
    After proceeding, I have yet hit two more errors and now stuck:
    I have hit another error with the same patch:
    create or replace package body FND_LOG as
    /* $Header: AFUTLOGB.pls 120 ...
    AD Worker error:

    File is: /u02/applfinp/apps/apps_st/appl/fnd/12.0.0/patch/115/sql/AFUTLOGB.pls

    Can I stop and restart this patch 9239090?

    Hello,
    I later executed the failed jobs or scripts manually (successfully) for the patch to continue
    sqlplus -s APPS/apps @/u02/applfinp/apps/apps_st/appl/admin/OFPROD/out/p001invok.sql
    sqlplus -s APPS/apps @/u02/applfinp/apps/apps_st/appl/admin/OFPROD/out/p002invok.sql
    The patch ended with the following :

    What could have happened that this was not recorded in ad_bugs?
    How to I get this recorded in the ad_bugs table?

  • Ora-04021: timeout occured while waiting to lock object.

    I have upgraded the DB From 8.1.5 to 8.1.7 then 9.0.2
    but while converting to 9i it gave a warning that
    "some uncompiled objects were found".
    now the DB works fine with every DDL and DML operation but when I edit any precedure or function it hangs for 4 to 5 mins and then show the following error
    ora-04021: timeout occured while waiting to lock object.
    when I shutdown the DB and restarts it then it allowes me to edit any founction or procedure or package only for one time,then again shows the error when I try to edit second time.
    what my be the reason , can any body help me pl.

  • Oracle 64bit Server (From JD Edwards) and oracle 32 bit client showing ORA:12560 "TNS: protocol adapter error "??

    I installed 64bit Oracle successfully and was able to connect to DB using SQL Developer and sqlplus (Oracle E1local and TNSListener is up and running). I installed Oracle 32bit client and copied both tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora files to C:\app\Administrator\product\11.2.0\client\Network\admin. But if i am trying to access DB through Oracle 32bit client (thru cmd as sqlplus /sys as sysdba or thru sqlplus , it is throwing ORA:12560. "TNS: protocol adapter error ". (Both 62bit server and 32 client on same VM machine - Windows 2008 R2 ). I directly executed sqlplus from "C:\app\Adm\....client\bin", but it is still throwing same error and because of this JDEdward installation is not able to find if any database is running or not.!
    My environment variables order: %PATH% =  C:\app\Administrator\product\11.2.0\client\bin;c:\Oracle\E1Local\bin; I have seen all the previous threads and try setting ORACLE_HOME and PATH variable using CMD and tried accessing the database, but it fails all the time.
    Please help me with the problem. Thanks in advance.

    Thread moved from Peoplesoft forum to JD Edwards.
    Nicolas.

  • TNS Timeout Error with both 32bit and 64bit drivers installed

    I have a server running WIndows 2008 64bit and SQL Server 2012 64bit. I have both the 32bit and 64bit Oracle ODBC drivers installed. 32bit is for SSIS and SSRS uses 64bit. I have an ODBC connection setup for both the 32bit and 64bit. I have the datasources setup for the 64bit and when I test it it works. When I go to run a query I get TNS timeout errors. Any ideas?

    Thank you very much, Curt!
    It's right: When the 64bit version is running, then the PSDs will be opened by this.
    But the configuration under "Bridge Edit/preferences/file type assoiciatons" has the same result as under the "Windows/Systemcontrol/Standardprograms": Never they show the name "Adobe Photoshop.exe (64bit)" - only "Adobe Photoshop.exe" In both cases (Bridge and systemcontrol) I have the possibility to choose the "right" Photoshop.exe by going to the right file (32bit OR 64bit), but the name of the .exe is ever the same: Only "Adobe Photoshop.exe". There is no difference.
    And so even if the 64bit version is preferred (in Bridge), the PSD-files will be opened in the 32bit-version, when no one of both versions is running.
    But - so or so - you have given me a way to solve my basic-problem!
    And when I find the time for experiments, I will show what happens, when I rename the 64bit-exe to "Adobe Photoshop64.exe" to get two different filenames for Photoshop in the Windows-System. (I'm not shure if this will function: When in the Photoshop-System are intrinsic lnks/references to "Photoshop.exe", then I will have no success! Therefore I have to make a HDD-Clone with the whole Windows-System, all Apps and my Working-data before I try to rename. Perhaps there is "no way back to the activation" after renaming the .exe ...
    Thank you and kind regards,
    Oh-Mann
