and when I am login to internet I get the following: tns: adapter error.
    Plese can you help me?

This is a duplicated thread from : Re: tns: protocol adapter error
If you don't mind, let's continue with one single thread for this to be easier to track and answer.
This error means your tns entry is pointing somewhere else but your target listener/instance. Could you please specify the host/sid and post the tns entry you use to get connected?

  • Cannot connect to GET STARTED page

    Hello,
First off, I am sorry, I did a search and saw numerous posts on this issue, but about all of them either ended their replies after a user asked "Did you do this or that ?" or they just stopped posting... at most I saw some topics where it magically worked later on, but no real step-by-step instructions.
So, the problem: I installed XE 11g, no apparent problems during install (no warnings so I assume everything is OK), tried the GET STARTED link, but it said it can't connect.

AUD: OS Error = 1717 encountered while writing audit recordFrom what I could gather from other posts here (and on other sites) the problem is I don't have anything listening on 8080. Other than that, all seems OK (I think).
So, can anyone tell me\help me on why that one isn't starting ? I reinstalled this 6 times and still can't figure out the problem... (as you saw, I even replaced the tns hostname with 127.0.0.1 out of paranoia). It's seriously driving me mad. Every topic I searched for (from the problem itself to even a step-by-step for dummies) shows an install, then the interface working... I see some questions regarding "I can't connect to..." but most are unanswered :(
    Thanks in advance!
P.S. let me know if I forgot to mention anything relevant

jgarry: I believe what you explained may be related to the fact some reported the DB doesn't work properly when the event log is full (I just emptied mine so it doesn't apply). Normally I disable it but without it started, the DB is not working properly (not that I can get it started anyway).
There was a post on a site I found hinting at 3 things:
    1. ORACLE_HOME must be defined as an env-var
    2. ORACLE_SID must be defined as an env-var
    3. there might be a problem with spfile
    Regarding those:
    1. shouldn't the setup declare it automatically ? I don't have it declared, but I added it (no change)As Orafad pointed out, Windows is different. It does have a search hierarchy it follows to figure out what the environment should be. So first, unset what you set and go into a cmd window and:
    sqlplus sys as sysdba
    Edit: Oops, I meant
    sqlplus / as sysdba
    startup
    2. same as above, except I am not sure what SID to add so I didn't declare it ... The only 2 I have are PLSExtProc and CLRExtProc in tnsnames by default. I tried with each but the only thing that changes is instead of getting the shared memory realm error I get a TNS adapter error... trading one error for another is not funFor XE, the ORACLE_SID is XE (unless you do screwy things to change it). So now that I see you had some other db installed before, I suspect an environment collision. Delve into your registry and see what oracle definitions you have - this is a lot of work, things are spread around some, but searching for oracle is usually a good start. I'm not up on the 11.2 details (or others, really, I just have vague memories of seeing MOS notes that purported to explain clean up entirely, without truly doing so, and I avoid Windows as much as possible). I would uninstall XE, uninstall the other one, then search the registry for any leftover stuff, then install XE and see if it all magically works. But that is a fairly brain-dead way to deal with it.
So that said, you can set up a little batch file to set your environment in a cmd window (specifically ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID), and go into sqlplus / as sysdba and give the startup command. If you get the memory realm error, you have one of those wrong, if you get the tnsnames errors you can fix those following the advice in Ed Steven's blog. You can run tnsping to see which tnsnames.ora you are using, if you use one (which is determined by an @ sign in your connection string, which you should not need to connect locally, but if you do, you need to have XE defined in the tnsnames.ora, and may need to set TNS_ADMIN to get the right one).
Your tnsnames.ora should have an entry like this:
    XE =
      (DESCRIPTION =
        (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = Yourcomputer.yourdomian.whatever)(PORT = 1521))
        (CONNECT_DATA =
          (SERVER = DEDICATED)
          (SERVICE_NAME = XE)
)You might want to search for any tnsname.ora on your computer, the default correct one would be: C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\network\ADMIN\tnsnames.ora
    3. I don't have that file in the folder but I suspect it might be created on a first successful launch of the DBWithout an spfile you need to use a pfile, then create a pfile from spfile. But there should be one at C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\dbs\SPFILEXE.ORA (if you used default installation).
    >
Other than that I didn't find anything helpful in logs (or don't know where else to look), nor on sites.
I did have WAMP installed at a point (uninstalled it) but if it were to conflict I guess SETUP would tell me (since the XE license doesn't let you use 2 DBs at the same time)Is that some mysql thing? That shouldn't interfere. It's only installing multiple Oracle products related some what to the Oracle database that can be a problem, and normally isn't with the more recent stuff.
I swear to god this is killing my neurons :(When you find the solution, you will slap your forehead.

  • Trying to use ODAC on 64 bit Windows 7 with 64 bit Oracle 11g?

I have been trying to connect to Oracle 11g with VS 2010 .NET Framework 4.0 on Windows 7 for about 5 days with no luck.
Background: VS 2010, .Net Framework 4.0 and Oracle 11g 64 bit are running on the same maching.
I have found that are two versions of the 64 bit ODAC.
    1) The XCopy bersion and 2) the Oracle Universal Installer version.
To install the XCopy version, I right click on the cmd window, change to the folder where my xCopy install is and type install.bat all d:\oracle\myoraclehome odac just like the documentation says. The files are created in my Oracle home and there are registry keys under HKLM\Software\Oracle like the documentation says. I don't have a clue how to prove weather it's doing anything usefule though. When I go to VS 2010, I don't have System.Data.Oracleclient of Oracle.DataAccess.client or any other namespace that can talk to Oracle. How would I test the XCopy version and see if it is actually able to do anything?
I like the Windows Installer version much better and set it up just like the readme.txt said to. I used the Oracle Data Access Components for Oracle Client 11.2.0.2.1. I wound up with two oracle homes, one for my server and one for the ODAC install. I copied tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora over to the odac client home's Network\Admin folder. From my server's oracle home, I ran sqlplus and was able to successfully login to the server. I liked the fact that it came with sample code and I saw that the Oracle.DataAcces.client dll was added as a project reference. I ran the samples with my userid and password and got a TNS Adapter error.
Since the Oracle server is on the same server that everything else is on, I ASS-U-ME that I would want to install the Oracle Data although I didn't see it documented anywhere. I tried creating it in a different directory, but it says it must be installed on top of an existing oracle home. I tried creating it in my oracle home and got err message OUI-10044 - The selected oracle home location already contains an oracle home or APPL_TOP created while running a different OS.
Can someone tell me how to correctly install either one of these and test it to make sure it is working?
TIA I know someone on planet Earth must be using the 64-bit odac to connect to Oracle,
    George

    George,
It sounds like I have the same setup as you and I am no expert on Oracle install issues but VS 2010 is 32bit. You need to install the 32 bit version of ODAC to make VS all happy. I was under the impression ther was no 64 bit version of ODAC? Then again I am no expert on the topic.
I then installed the 64 bit xcopy version, decided upon the location for tnsname and then defined TNS_ADMIN. All works well. I create most of my exe's as AnyCPU and Windoze/Oracle seems to figure out what to do.

  • Cannot uninstall/re install Oracle 8.1.7

    On a W2K Pro SP3, I started the installation of 8.1.7
I had a power outage, so I uninstalled and tried to re install Oracle.
After uninstallation, I noticed that a lot of files / registry entries persisted
During the following install, I get several messages like
    Service xxx already exist
Windows error: cannot start service yyy
At the end, it tells me the install is successful.
The following services are indeed running:
    OracleOraHome81TNSListener
    OracleServiceOGENIUS
However, when I try to login with SQL Plus (system/manager), I get the following error:
ORA-12560: TNS : adapter or protocol error
What can I do to fully uninstall 8.1.7 and perform a brand new installation that works ?
    Thanks a lot to everybody
    André

    I have seen this before.
    Quick Fix:
The problem with files still named xxxxxO is caused by the install. Sometimes it
works to just copy the file in this case:
    $cp lsnrctlO lsnrctl
There are probably other files that were not renamed by the install:
Finally, the listener can run! yipee.. :)
It failed to run because there're some file 'missing'.
I told u before, lsnrctl didn't exist in my box. Well, I found that not only lnsrctl.
There're three more files needed to be renamed. So, total in the list are
    dbsnmp, lsnrctl, tnslsnr, and oratclsh.
All of them still have their odd xxxxO name (I should have known it from
    the start).
Once I copied all the file to their 'proper' name, the listener can start
successfully. (Though i think the listener need only lsnrctl and tnslsnr,
    i still renamed them all).
But I wonder, why does the installer not rename those files?
I found that those file were created normally during installation, until
    i run setup_stubs.sh.
Is there any bug on setup_stubs.sh? Why you didn't experience it as I did?
However, the most important things is, the database running well :)

  • Oracle 8i database initialization prob

    Hi,
I have installed oracle 8i on a windows 2000 machine.
It seemed to install without any problem.
But whenever i try to connect through sql plus or use the database configuration assistant to create a database I get a tns adapter error in the database initialization stage.
in the services panel I find these servicess r running
    OracleOraHome811Agent
    OracleOraHome811TNSListener
The other two service installed but not running and configured for manual action are:
    OracleOraHome811ClientCache
    OracleOraHome811DataGatherer
I think there should be a service named OracleOraHome811OracleService or something like that. Can anyone please help me what's the problem ?

Manual services are not required for 8i to work.
When the 'protocol adapter error' shows when trying to connect to sqlplus means you don't have a valid oracle service started, in fact, I don't see any from your service list. It will be created when you first create a database.
Use dbca it will run from the oracle menu at the windows start menu.

Basically use for internal web server only. I'm not sure can I use Oracle weblogic 11g instead of OracleAS 10g R2. I'll use some of the components like Oracle HTTP Server, Oracle Application Server Containers for J2EE(OC4J), Reports Services, Forms Services, Metadata Repository for Oracle Application Server Middle-Tier and etc.

  • IPad and pc laptop downloads @ 24 mbps, Mac mini downloads @ 6  mbps. What the problem?

All 3 devices in same location, why is the Mac mini so slow on download from wireless network?

I too was experiencing very slow surfin with my intl mac mini.
I have had it for 4 days now. My windows desktop was running ok and my PB 12" was okay too but I did find it running abit slow tho.
The mini was so slow that it did begin to annoy me. I was pretty sure is wasn't the mini's fault. I went out today with the intentions of picking up some memory but when I got to the counter the sales guy new about Mac's too and we chatted abit and he agreed it was probably the internet connection or the 6 month old router. So to isolate it, I should connect the mini by wire to see if there is a difference. The memory can wait for now.
While out shopping, I decided to pick up an indoor antenna for my Dlink router. The sales guy said it should help. I figured I'd try it.
I know my connection at home has been up and down, meaning fast to slow to annoying slow. When I got home, I hooked up the antenna and I'm just flying along! We'll see later this evening if things slow down.
The gadget I got is made by DLink, a Omni-Directional 7 dBi, High-Gain indoor Antenna. Came with a SMA to TNS adapter to use on other routers. Also came with an extension cable and mounting screws. The bottom of the base has magnets on it.
I used the extension cable. Kinda neat!
I'll have to get my daughter to check her PC upstairs as she was complaining about the slowness.....hopefully there is improvmement.
If the improvment doesn't stay the same, my next plan is to move the cable modem and wireless router back to my desk area and run a cable under the carpet to hook up both the Windows PC and Mini by wire. Hubby won't notice!! LOL
Well we'll see how it goes later this evening.
    Cheers!

  • How to connect with the database

    Hi
I have oracle instant client instantclient-basic-win32-11.1.0.6.0 and i have oracle database 11g installed on oracle enterprise linux machine, i want to connect to that oracle from windows xp machine. i have oracle instantclient-basic-win32-11.1.0.6.0, which has following files.
    vc8
    vc71
    adrci
    adrci
    BASIC_README

    genezi
    etc.......
when i connect using sqlplus TNS adapter error is coming what to do

  • Can't  start EM after creating DB via DBCA

I have now installed, uninstalled and re-installed 10G about five times on my W2K laptop without being able to successfully start EM or log into a DB via SQLPlus, etc.
There are two issues I am experiencing:
    1) If I am not connected to the web thru my laptop (online), I cannot even reference EM. I have set my internet connection to Never dial a connection so it will not keep prompting me to connect, but this has been to no avail. If I open my browser and work offline and try to use the link to EM, it will not let me--it will give me the standard web page not found, detect network settings, etc screen.
    2) If I am online, the EM web page comes up and tells me that my DB is not started and that I have to login as SYSDBA to start it. Despite using the correct OS userid/pwd and oracle userid SYS/pwd for the database login, it continues to tell me that the userid is wrong!
I cannot log into the DB as sysdba or otherwise via SQLPLUS. I can do "sqlplus /nolog" to get into sqlplus but can't connect to anything--it gives me the TNS-adapter error: not found' error message.
Now, I just did a fresh install and used DBCA to create a starter DB called test. I do not see a listener but on my last install (same problems as now) when I created one thru Net Mgr or Net Config Asst, it didn't matter as it wouldn't allow it to start in my services. There was already a OracleOraDb10g_home1TNSListener service set to AUTOMATIC and my new one (which it called OracleOraDb10g_home1TNSListener1Test) was set to manual and could not be started. LSNRCTL said that the new listener was blocked, so I assumed that 10G was using the EZCONNECT naming method and did not need the new listener.
What gives? Any help would be very much appreciated as I am at a complete standstill.
    Thanks!
    Dave

Sorry about that. I could not ping my instance, I CAN ping my laptop. I attached the lsnrctl and emctl results as well. It looks like it is still pointing to a previous DB that has been uninstalled that I no longer have (called dv2)?

  • Oracle Pre-Load Actions error

    HI All,
I am trying to install SAP R/3 4.7 IDES, Oracle 9 with patch 9.2.0.3.0 on 2003 Server SP2. I have encountered the following error during Database Instance installation step of Oracle Pre-load Actions .
CJS-00084 SQL Statement or Script failed. Error Message: Executable C:\oracle\ora92/bin/sqlplus.exe returns 3.
    ERROR 2007-06-13 10:25:46
    FJS-00012 Error when executing script.
I have already tried following solutions.
    1) directory C:\oracle\ora92/bin/sqlplus.exe is there I able to connect as sysdba
    2) I changed “C:\SAPinst_Oracle_KERNEL" name with no spaces
    3) Installed Oracle without installing Database.
I think I am making a mistake in following two steps.
    1) I did installed Ms Loop Back adapter but what exact entry I need to put in Host file?
    2) When I installed Oracle and run “Sapserver.cmd” file, windows message popup and ask which program I want to use to open “Sapserver.rsp” file and I choose notepad.
After Oracle installed, I run some Sqlplus commands and able to connect as sysdba but listener status command showing one listener is running and other status unknow. After installation stop, Listener status giving TNS adapter error.
    Please help.

never change the directory name of SAPinst working directory. It is designed in this version to use a directory with spaces and it will work with it.
What you should not do is to copy additional CDs (like Export, Kernel) into directories having blanks in the path.

That should not happen at all.
The response file is opened by Oracle's setup.exe which is invoked by sapserver.cmd. Is the Oracle CD located on a directory containing blanks?

  • Oracle Client 9.2.0.7 + forms60

    Hi People,
At my work we have Oracle client 9.2.0.7 on the workstations,
About a week ago we got a new app and its build/made in Oracle Forms 6i
Heres the thing i need to install the forms 60 client and make it work with the currently installed 9.2.0.7 client..
But no ....my windows environments changed when i goto CMD - SET , ive got 2 diffirent oracle home etc...Registry´s messed up my Oracle 9 settings..
Now i get all kinds of spectacular ORA-Uname it errors..
My question is this. is it possible to install the forms 60 client with the currently installed 9.2.0.7. clients ??
Can they coexist on one machine, if so can someone plz explain ?
    Mny thx ,
    Loz

    Hey Travis !!
It worked i installed Forms 6I first and then i used the Oracle 9I client and now they coexist on one machine !!
But heres the thing now i got the Oracle 6I forms to work and now all my other DB apps are not working anymore lolz.....
Ive contacted the company in question to take a look at it ;-)
Why ? cause their using custom installers ... its not really forms 6I & Oracle 9I
They have modified the setup's, dll's environment variables + registry entries lolz...
So if u use the Oracle "Oracle" Forms 6I + Oracle 9I it will work perfectly
Got 2 homes, 2 install folders etc. completly seperated from one another i can remove one and the other will work perfectly ;-)
So Travis thx for the help and ill post another message as soon the company gets back to me ...

I recently encountered the same problem at a client
site where the desktop PC (running Windows XP Pro)
had the Oracle 9.2 Client installed. We then came
alone and installed Oracle Forms and Reports 6i on
the desktop. Everything related to Oracle stopped
working on the PC. Forms and Reports builder would
give us some kind of strange TNS Adapter error and
the 9i Client SQLPLUS command couldn't even connect
to the database anymore. Yeah, we had to Oracle
Homes but it didn't matter which one we selected.
    Nothing would work.
The only way we got it to work again was basically to
start with a clean box. First, save off the
    SQLNET.ORA and TNSNAMES.ORA file in the <9.2
HOME>\network\admin directory that you used with the
9.2 Client somewhere so you don't have to reinvent
it. We then stopped and disabled any Oracle services
running on the box, then we started uninstalling the
Forms and Reports 6i Product and the 9.2 Client
Software. Cleaned out all the registery entries we
could find that related to those 2 Oracle products.
Booted into safe mode and deleted the two directories
that had been created from the 2 products (i.e.
    C:\orant and C:\Ora92), and deleted the C:\Program
Files\Oracle directory as well. Rebooted back into
Normal Windows mode and made sure everything was
    running ok.
I was once told that Oracle likes to have the older
products installed first before newer products so
that's what we did. We first installed Forms and
Reports 6i, Applied the Patchsets we wanted. Rebooted
as needed. Copied the saved SQLNET.ORA and
TNSNAME.ORA file to the new Forms&Reports
    \net80\admin directory (i.e. C:\orant\net80\admin)
and made sure we could connect to the database. So
now we had the Default Oracle Home as the
Forms&Reports home but that didn't matter to us.
Then we installed the 9.2 Client software to it's
default directory (i.e. C:\Ora92). Copied the saved
SQLNET.ORA and TNSNAMES.ORA file to the
C:\Ora92\network\admin directory. Made sure that our
selected Oracle Home was ORA92 and that the 9.2
Client could connect to the database.
Life was good after that and everthing worked.
If you haven't installed the Forms6i on the other
machines then you just probably need to uninstall the
9.2 client first and then reinstall it after you've
    installed Forms6i.
    Hope this helps.
