  • JDBC driver, multiple oracle homes, tns issue

    Environment:  Win 2003 Server 32 bit; Coldfusion 8; oracle db; IIS; Sequelink 5.4
    I'm having a JDBC driver problem on 32bit.  I've  installed two oracle clients on the box, one 10g and recently an 11g.  With the  new 11g install, I've still wanted my datasources to all point to 10g  for now and I've changed the environment path to have the 10g path  first.  Everything is good except for my coldfusion data sources, they  will only now connect to 11g.  When verifying 10g data sources I get
    [Macromedia][SequeLink  JDBC Driver][ODBC Socket][Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-12154: TNS:could not  resolve the connect identifier specified
    So I add a 10g service to the 11g tns names and the datasource connects just fine.  It's a work around but not a good one.  The main issue is that the JDBC driver seems to be pointing to my 11g tns for everything and that is the problem.

    You mention Sequelink and your message refers to ODBC Socket.
    When you create this datasource in CF, are you using ODBCSocket as the DSN type? IS that because perhaps you're on CF Standard and don't have Oracle listed as a driver type option?
    In that case, you may want to consider getting an Oracle JDBC driver, then using the "Other" DSN type when creating a DSN in the CF Admin.
    There are various resources walking through how to do this:
    http://blog.razuna.com/2008/01/25/configure-the-jdbc-driver-for-oracle-on-coldfusion-8-sta ndard-edition/
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/183/tn_18344.html (though see comment in above entry about a concern using the "thin" driver referred to in this technote)
    http://www.technicallychris.com/2006/09/04/configuring-oracle-for-coldfusion-mx-standard/ (this offers a useful follow up tip to the technote)
    Hope that helps.

  • ODBC TNS issues after XE install

    Hello all,
    My computer is Windows XP. I have Oracle 9i Client installed.
    I have recently installed XE on my desktop to attempt to develop a small database.
    Prior to the installation, I was able to connect to several Oracle database through various applications.
    After the installation, I was not able to connect to any of the Oracle databases.
    I copied my previous tnsnames.ora file (C:\oracle\ora90\network\admin) into the new tnsnames.ora file (C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\NETWORK\ADMIN). This allowed me to connect to most of the databases.
    However, I am not able to connect to IBM Rational ReqPro.
    I receive this error:
    [Microsoft][ODBC driver for Oracle][Oracle]ORA-12514: TNS: listener could not resolve SERVICE_NAME given in connect descriptor.
    To attempt to resolve this I have modified the windows 'PATH' so that the ora90 location occurs before the oraclexe location.
    I rebooted the machine.
    Used TNSPING successfully. TNSPING reports that it used the parameter file in the ora90 location.
    Used SQLPlus. I am asked for a connection password and user name, but I don't have a valid username / password. I receive an error: TNS:protocol adapter error.
    Any hints would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Justin

    As a follow-up, I finally uninstalled XE and still was not able to resolve this issue with ReqPro.
    I searched the registry for any references to XE. No luck.
    I uninstalled ReqPro and all associated application. I also uninstalled my Oracle 9i client. After reinstalling everything, I still had the same issue.
    Finally I found that my TNSnames.ora was slightly out of date. The port numbers for the ReqPro database had changed. Because of the timing, and the other issues I had with the other databases I access, I assumed this was a problem with the XE install.
    (NOTE: I'll be busy for a day or two hanging my head in shame).

    I've started getting these errors on my database. However, nothing was being reported in my alert log. I did the research and found a bug that could cause this, with a patch. Also found that the same patch was in the 10.2.0.3 patch set.
    So I updated to that patch last night. STILL getting the same errors...but now I'm getting new errors...

  • TNS Issues

    Hi all:
    I have installed Form/Reports 6i on Windows 2000 Advanced Server SP4, it already have Oracle 9i DB release 9.2.0.
    When i try to add the TNS entry of my existing DB 9i into Forms 6i tnsnames.ora file, and after that when i try to login Form Builder after entering the User+Pws+Host String, the form builder just Exit and vanished. The same problem is with Reports 6i.
    When i delete the tns entry from the tnsnames.ora file of forms then it gives the TNS error.
    Can any body HELP e out Please, any support will be highly appreciated..
    REgards.

    To see is this a native sqlnet problem, test it outside the developer GUI. In a DOS box try,
    tnsping80 <hoststring>
    plus80 <user>/<pw>@<hoststring> .
    It's necessary to install forms/reports BEFORE the database, did you do that?

    Hi,
    a different point: make sure the (host = ) part of your ADDRESS_LIST is correct, it seems the listener tries to bind to a host/port combination that does not exist. Don't use localhost there or nobody will be able to connect to the database which is probably not what you what.

  • Concurent Manager Issue -Oracle eBusiness R12 on Windows 2003

    Hi,
    I am really frustate with this Oracle Apps R12 instance on my Machine but dont have any other options.
    First time when i completed installation Concurrent Manager was running perfectly fine.
    but once i restarted machine, concurrent manager was down.
    I tried to start services conc-manager with all the alternates but Hard Luck.
    In the Concurent manager Administrator -- The actual and target process limits is not matching, no precess is pending too.
    I tried.
    1 - I tried adstpall.cmd and then adstrtal.cmd then also no success.
    2 - I droped all the services and ran the CMCLEAN.sql no success.
    3 - I tried adautocfg.cmd but no success.
    If any one can help me out, i will be great full to him/her.
    I repeated the whole process 3-4 times from the fresh installation to end.
    Thanks in Advance
    Bachan.

    Hi,
    I was exploring some of the posts and found some one thing about the log file.
    I checked the conc-mgr log file inside -- "%APPLCSF%\%APPLLOG%" and came to know that most of the concurrent manager was not running because of TNS issue.
    *The TNS alias could not be located, the listener process on LK could not be contacted, or the listener failed to spawn the Service Manager process.
    Found dead process: spid=(999999), cpid=(1277461), Service Instance=(1052)*
    But the problem is all the TNS services are running fine then why log is showing this issue?
    Please help

  • Error 404 -- NOT FOUND when running a form in form 11g

    Hi All,
    I got this problem when I run the forms using internet explorer.
    I work on Forms 11g which uses weblogic 10.3 for web deployment of the forms.
    Error 404--Not Found
    From RFC 2068 Hypertext Transfer Protocol -- HTTP/1.1:
    10.4.5 404 Not Found
    The server has not found anything matching the Request-URI. No indication is given of whether the condition is temporary or permanent.
    If the server does not wish to make this information available to the client, the status code 403 (Forbidden) can be used instead. The 410 (Gone) status code SHOULD be used if the server knows, through some internally configurable mechanism, that an old resource is permanently unavailable and has no forwarding address.
    Can any one tell me where it went wrong.
    Thanks

    Let's start by clearing up some confusion.
    PORTS
    In version 11.1.1.x here are how the common ports are defined by default:
    1. HTTP Server - 8888
    2. WLS_FORMS - 9001
    3. WLS_REPORTS - 9002
    4. WLS Admin Server - 7001
    So, if you understand how ports work in general, you should see that there are two ways to run a form. You can either go through HTTP Server or call WLS_FORMS directly. This means that both of the following would work, although one would be a direct path and the other would route the request through the HTTP Server:
    <li>http://ie1fdtfc5zl1s:9001/forms/frmservlet?config=frmdemo
    <li>http://ie1fdtfc5zl1s:8888/forms/frmservlet?config=frmdemo
    Port 7001, will always be the Admin Server port by default for the Classic domain. By default, the only thing you can do from here is access EM or WLS Console.
    As for the tns issue, by default, both the Builder and runtime will expect to find tnsnames.ora in the Instance Home \config so be sure you are adding the correct entries to the correct file.
    You can hard code a path to the file which you prefer be used by setting TNS_ADMIN in default.env (e.g. TNS_ADMIN=C:\Oracle\mytnsdirectory). This will apply only to running forms and not the Builder.
    Also, here is something which often is confusing to many people.... just because you launched your form from the Builder does not mean that the running form has anything to do with the Builder at that point. In other words, when you click on the RunForm button in the builder all you are doing is passing a url to a browser. The browser and the form are not using any of the Builder's settings except those which may have been passed in the URL (e.g. username/password). ALL running forms are considered "runtime". This means all of the environment configuration information for a running form will need to be set in default.env. The Builder, on the other hand will rely on the System variable, Windows Registry (or shell if on Unix).

  • Using C# with Oracle Internet Directory

    My apologies if this is the wrong forum for this but I'm hoping someone here can at least point me in the right direction.
    I am trying to connect to OID with C# 3.5 and have been completely unsuccessful. The .Net DirectoryServices namespace seems to be Active Directory specific. If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

    Hi,
    ODP is oblivious to what naming resolution you use, it simply passes that information on to the client and the resolution is done there.
    Is this behavior ODP specific? Do you have sqlplus installed as well? Does that connect succesfully using OID? If so, do you have more than one home? One thing I see happen is folks have multiple homes installed and they test "home1" and it works, install ODP into "home2" and have TNS issues. The two homes are seperate and both sqlnet.ora and tnsnames need to be configured in both, or set a TNS_ADMIN environment variable to point to the directory you want to use for tnsnames/sqlnet.
    If this behavior is truly ODP specific, the correct forum fyi is [over here|http://forums.oracle.com/forums/forum.jspa?forumID=146]
    If the behavior is not ODP specific, but rather a generic OID issue, I'm not sure but I think maybe [Identity Management|http://forums.oracle.com/forums/category.jspa?categoryID=195] might be the right forum; at least I see there are some other OID posts there.
    Hope it helps,

    Regard,
    Kenneth.tnsnames.ora is used only by client processes. listner.ora is used only to configure the listener, and that is a server side issue only. In addition, the listener can start without any listener.ora at all, using all default values. See my discussion of tns issues at edstevensdba.wordpress.com
    If you are using dbcontrol, you will most likely need to reconfigure it, using the emca utility.

  • Connect from MS ODBC to Oracle RAC

    I always connected to our Oracle 9i database using MS ODBC in Excel 2007and Access 2007.
    We recently migrated to Oracle 11g RAC which has two nodes. Have no problem connecting using Oracle RAC string with SQL Developer and SQL Plus to the the Oracle RAC.
    For the client ODBC I cant seem to connect using the RAC String. The MS ODBC Excel and Access prompt for username, password and host. In the host I put in the entire RAC String and it never connects showing TNS issues.
    Please advise.

    You can provide any one instance name instead of the RAC string name so it can establish the connection.
    Example: Username/password@RACInstance1
    or
    username/password@RACInstance2

  • Debugger and Citrix

    Will the debugger work through Citrix and a Aventail connection? I have gotten past the debugger not finding the tns issue.

    1. Click on a Procedure under the procedures node.
    2. The Procedure will be displayed on Right. Click Edit to bring up the code frame for the procedure.
    3. On the Code frame set a few break points.
    4. Ensure that the procedure is compiled for debug. If not click the Compile for Debug button.
    5. Click the debug button
    6. When the first breakpoint is hit the Debugging Log is displayed at the bottom of the SQL Developer window.
    7. Click on the Smart Data tab.
    8. On the Smart Data tab monitor the value of various objects. Verify the Type of these objects.
    9. Monitor the value of these objects as the procedure is debugged.

    In order to get that message you have to have actually reached the database.
    If you have actually reached the database you can rule out any network/tns issues.
    A down listener or bad tnsnames entry could never result in a ora-01031. So checking listeners and tns entries is a waste of time for this problem.

  • RAC rolling upgrade

    Hi all
    I'm performing rolling upgrade of cpu patch at rac environment
    I open a connection to the database (using service) and it connects to the first node. Then I shutdown the first node to perform an upgrade and check the connection, but it doesn't switch to the second node automatically, but returns TNS error. What about if it's a production database and there're a lot of online scripts running on that node?
    However, I tried it again and it automatically switched wihout any error. What can be reason?

    Agreed... use the -local option and do each node individually.
    11gR2? If you have TNS issues, it is indicative of an improperly configured local/remote_listener or SCAN on one or more nodes. Sometimes when additional nodes are added, these parameters may not necessarily be correct.

  • Not propogating data captured......

    I have run the following script for bidirectional replication....
    with database links
    server1 tyo server2 :SOULK
    server2 to server1 :dklr1
    database name is orcl on both servers and schema name is replication
    connect STRMADMIN/STRMADMIN
    begin
    dbms_streams_adm.set_up_queue(
    queue_table => 'APPLY_SOURCETAB1',
    queue_name => 'APPLY_SOURCE1',
    queue_user => 'STRADM');
    end;
    begin
    dbms_streams_adm.set_up_queue(
    queue_table => 'CAPTURE_SOURCETAB1',
    queue_name => 'CAPTURE_SOURCE1',
    queue_user => 'STRADM');
    end;
    Set up two queues for Capture and Apply in DEST Database as shown below :
    connect STRMADMIN/STRMADMIN@soulk
    begin
    dbms_streams_adm.set_up_queue(
    queue_table => 'APPLY_DESTINTAB1',
    queue_name => 'APPLY_DESTIN1',
    queue_user => 'STRADM2');
    end;
    begin
    dbms_streams_adm.set_up_queue(
    queue_table => 'CAPTURE_DESTINTAB1',
    queue_name => 'CAPTURE_DESTIN1',
    queue_user => 'STRADM2');
    end;
    Configure capture process on SRC database
    connect STRMADMIN/STRMADMIN
    begin
    dbms_streams_adm.add_schema_rules (
    schema_name => 'REPLICATION',
    streams_type => 'CAPTURE',
    streams_name => 'CAPTURES_SOURCE1',
    queue_name => 'CAPTURE_SOURCE1',
    include_dml => TRUE,
    include_ddl => TRUE,
    inclusion_rule => TRUE);
    end;
    Configure apply process on SRC database
    connect STRMADMIN/STRMADMIN
    begin
    dbms_streams_adm.add_schema_rules (
    schema_name => 'REPLICATION',
    streams_type => 'APPLY',
    streams_name => 'APPLIES_SOURCE1',
    queue_name => 'APPLY_SOURCE1',
    include_dml => TRUE,
    include_ddl => TRUE,
    source_database => 'soulk');
    end;
    Configure propagation process on SRC Database:
    connect STRMADMIN/STRMADMIN
    begin
    dbms_streams_adm.add_schema_propagation_rules (
    schema_name => 'REPLICATION',
    streams_name => 'PROP_SOURCE_TO_DEST1',
    source_queue_name => 'CAPTURE_SOURCE1',
    destination_queue_name => 'STRADM2.APPLY_DESTIN1@soulk',
    include_dml => TRUE,
    include_ddl => TRUE,
    source_database => 'ORCL',
    queue_to_queue => TRUE);
    end;
    Configure Schema Supplemental logging on SRC Database:
    connect STRMADMIN/STRMADMIN
    EXEC DBMS_CAPTURE_ADM.ABORT_SCHEMA_INSTANTIATION('REPLICATION');
    EXEC DBMS_CAPTURE_ADM.PREPARE_SCHEMA_INSTANTIATION('REPLICATION','ALL');
    Configure capture process on DEST Database:
    connect STRMADMIN/STRMADMIN@SOULK
    begin
    dbms_streams_adm.add_schema_rules (
    schema_name => 'REPLICATION',
    streams_type => 'CAPTURE',
    streams_name => 'CAPTURES_DESTIN1',
    queue_name => 'CAPTURE_DESTIN1',
    include_dml => TRUE,
    include_ddl => TRUE);
    end;
    Set the schema instantiation SCN on SRC using the SCN of Dest database:
    connect STRMADMIN/STRMADMIN
    SET SERVEROUTPUT ON SIZE 1000000
    declare
    v_scn number;
    begin
    v_scn := dbms_flashback.get_system_change_number();
    dbms_output.put_line('Instantiation SCN is: ' || v_scn);
    dbms_apply_adm.set_schema_instantiation_scn@dklr1 (
    source_schema_name => 'REPLICATION',
    source_database_name => 'SOULK ',
    instantiation_scn => v_scn,
    recursive => TRUE);
    end;
    If you experiences any TNS issues, reload the listener on the Source and retry. If you still are receiving errors, check to see what the SCN number is on each database. You will need to export the schema from PLANO and import it into TULSA and then retry.
    Configure apply process on DEST:
    connect STRMADMIN/STRMADMIN@soulk
    begin
    dbms_streams_adm.add_schema_rules (
    schema_name => 'REPLICATION',
    streams_type => 'APPLY',
    streams_name => 'APPLIES_DESTIN1',
    queue_name => 'APPLY_DESTIN1',
    include_dml => TRUE,
    include_ddl => TRUE,
    source_database => 'DKLR1');
    end;
    Configure propagation process on DEST:
    connect STRMADMIN/STRMADMIN@SOULK
    begin
    dbms_streams_adm.add_schema_propagation_rules (
    schema_name => 'REPLICATION',
    streams_name => 'PROP_DESTIN_TO_SOURCE',
    source_queue_name => 'CAPTURE_DESTIN1',
    destination_queue_name => 'STRADM.APPLY_SOURCE1@DKLR1',
    include_dml => TRUE,
    include_ddl => TRUE,
    source_database => 'soulk',
    queue_to_queue => TRUE);
    end;
    After this i have started the processes
    capture statistics show that some bytes are transmitted to apply stream
    and at apply at some bytes are recived but at apply stream no of msgs dequed is 0
    and propogation stream is also not showing any progress
    there is no error msg ....please guide me what to do ..
