TNS: Protocol adaptor not loadable

Hi,
I am facing TNS: Protocol adaptor not loadable error when i am trying to login from SQLPLUS.
But from the command prompt when I open sqlplus I am able to login. Also I am able to TNSPING my service (PROD).
I am using Oracle 11g, This was installed along with EBS 12.1.1 My OS is Windows Server 2003 SP1.
All my environment variables are properly set.
I am unable to think of possible reasons.
Thank You,
Niranjan.

But from the command prompt when I open sqlplus I am able to login. Please clarify. Do you have two Sqlplus? Which one works and which one doesn't? Note that 11.1 does not have sqlplusw.exe, only console (command prompt) version exists.

All my environment variables are properly set.Are you sure? Seems like you are "mixing homes". Does this EBS have an Oracle Client inside perhaps?
ProcessMonitor is a good tool, with which you could find out from where files actually are loaded.

A bit generic .... In SqlPlus are you connecting from the server or from a Client ?
Did you check if the listener is running ?
    Did you try tnsping ?
    What is your OS ?

  • TNS Protocol Adaptor Error

Hi all, I need your help.
I'm using forms 10g on an oralce 10g database, the program is successfully compiled but when running it, it gives me the 12560 error "TNS: Protocol Adaptor Error"
    does anybody have any idea?

    Hi ,
The Oracle Doc says to take the following action in this situation:
'Check addresses used for proper protocol specification. Before reporting this error, look at the error stack and check for lower level transport errors. For further details, turn on tracing and reexecute the operation. Turn off tracing when the operation is complete'.

    Hello,
You may set the ORACLE_SID first:
    set ORACLE_SID=XE
sqlplus user/passwordElse, check for the Service OracleServiceXE in the Control Pannel. It should be started.
    Hope this help.

  • ORA-12560 TNS:Protocol Adapter Error and ORA-12557 Error

    Hello ,
I have installed Oracle 11.2.0 64 bit database on my Windows 7 ( Home Premium) PC which is also 64 bit. I installed it because I am trying to setup Informatica. Later, I learnt that informatica is 32 bit and can not communicate to Oracle 11.2.0 64 bit database. So after digging through solutions, someone mentioned that I need to install Oracle 11g client 32bit.
I have installed 11g client software successfully now. Here is problem though :
When I launch SQL-Plus from 11g database , it works fine. However I launch SQL-Plus from 32bit client it gives me error as :
    Ora-12560 :TNS: Protocol Adapter Error.
So I have been trying to resolve this error. I saw that this question has been posted many many times and have tried many thing as listed below :
    1. copy tnsnames.ora from database ( dbhome_1) to client installation ( client_1 ) under ..\network\admin\ --- Didn't work.
    2. Set $ORACLE_HOME and $ORACLE_SID environment variable.
Here is interesting fact - If I set $ORACLE_HOME to database path and not client path error changes to :
ORA-12557 TNS: Protocol adapter not loadable.
If I keep $ORACLE_HOME as client path then I get same error as earlier ORA-12560.
    3. I have also tried changing $PATH variable. I did set to path containing only database installation, only client installation, both database and client installation with database installation appearing first
But all of these haven't worked.
Can anyone please suggest what I am missing and any further things I could try ?
    Thank you in advance !

Thank you in advance !unfortunately, we need to know exactly how you tried to connect with sqlplus when it "worked" and when it "didn't work". The key to the reported error messages is highly dependent on the environment settings AND the specification of the connect string. A copy and paste of the entire command line session would be most helpful.
But again, running on any 'home' edition of windows is not supported.

In the same folder of your client machine, check to make sure your SQLNET.ORA specifies that it's using TNSNAMES.

Ensure your listener is properly configured and started. Check the listener's address and verify you can tnsping it with the tnsping command:
    tnsping orcl
On the other side, make sure your tnsnames.ora file on the client side has properly configured the address where the listener is located.

While connecting "sqlplus SYSADM/SYSADM@HCM" I am getting the below error:
ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor
    Installation background:
    Windows 7 l(64-bit) laptop.
Created linux virtualbox to installl peoplesoft VM templates.
so far installed: Oracle11gR2.vdi and HCMDB.vdi on the linux virtualbox.
Followed the steps exactly what it is in the link below: Got the above error in page 4 of the link at connecting to database via sqlplus.

Below provided initHCM.ora, tnsnames.ora, listerner.ora and some responses I tried. I could not figure out what causing the issue even after researching in web.

My guess is that the database service "HCM" is not up and running but not sure how to make up and running. Even I could not find it listed in the linux services list.
Note: Able to login sqlplus using "sqlplus sys/sys as sysdba" but failing to access database table as "select * from PSRECDEFN;"
    thanks

    Hi Nicolas,
I have no luck and the error still persists.
I have set the "export ORACLE_SID=HCM" from root user and oracle user too.
I guess, I have already loaded database when I ran the "cd /opt/oracle/psft/vm
    ./oraclevm-template.sh"
The outcome of the above script as similar as below:

Does anyone have any ideas what else I can check. I'm a Unix person, not a Windows person, which is making it even more complicated. If I was on Unix, I'd just blow everything away and start again from scratch, but since I'm not sure how to remove all traces from the registry, etc., I don't want to try that on this machine. There was already one other database created, but it's not goign to be used.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    regards,
    Tarisa.

    hi,
thanks for the info. the problem, as it turns out, was that I was connected to the db server via a terminal service (Microsoft Management Console), which for some reason caused probelms with TNS. After I connected directly to the machine using VNC, I was able to create the database with no problems. strange but true.
    regards,
    Tarisa.
